This was such a great story. The only problem is that it was too short. Axel Forrester and Tara Stillman were high school sweethearts. But both knew there was an expiration date on their relationship. Tara wanted to follow in her fathers footsteps and become a veterinarian, while Axel dreamed of becoming a rock star. Years later they have both accomplished the goals they set and are living in the same town. Axel knows that Tara is the only one for him. He sets out to woo her back. Such a really great second chance story. I loved everything about it!
Axel has achieved the rockstar dreams he set out to conquer, but now that he's got it all, he's starting to realize he's feeling a bit empty. Seeing his first love on social media has him thinking and feeling nostalgic, and planning. His buddy's dog is just the ticket to getting Tara back in his life. She's a vet. He's got a dog. She will surely fall all over herself to take him up on the date he's going to propose. Right? Or wrong. Because Tara's life is the way she wants it, and the reasons they walked away from each other back then haven't changed - Axel's got a rockstar's temporary life and Tara has and wants the opposite - stability, the white picket fence, and a home in the Hamptons where her successful veterinary practice is. Can Axel convince Tara to take a chance on them again? Will he have to choose between his dream and his love?
Just One Wish is a sweet, low angst second chance rockstar story. Axel is a sweetheart who's got his work cut out for him to convince his first and only love to give him, them, a second chance. There are adorable furbabies, a strong emotional connection, and two lovable leads.

5 Star review of Just One Wish by Carly Phillips Just One Wish is a second chance at love story for Axel Forrester and Tara Stillman. It was an entertaining read that ticked all the boxes for me. From the moment I read the blurb, I was hooked and I couldn’t wait to dive in. It’s been years, but the moment they meet again the connection between Axel and Tara is just as intense as it always was. The chemistry and attraction between them is too intense to ignore. Axel knows that she is the one who got away and he is determined to do whatever it takes to get her to take another chance on him. I fell hard and fast for Axel, there is so much more to the bad boy rocker than meets the eye and he ticked all the boxes for me. I loved this story, from the first to the last chapter. The writing was strong, the story fast paced, the characters engaging and easy to relate too.
Just One Wish (The Kingston Family #4.5) by Carly Phillips 3.5 stars M/F Second chance romance I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.
Tara is living her life. She loves her job and loves that her mom has found happiness again. Tara thought that her life would be different, but when her dad died unexpectedly, things shifted. Now, a successful vet, she loves her patients and life.
Axel always wanted to make it big. now that he's in a successful band, he can't help but see his friends settling down and want a little of that for himself. When he sees his first love on social media, and notices that she's close, he can't help himself. He has to see her.
With a meddling mom, friends who want their friend to be happy and a past that had the makings of a future, these two will have to figure out if their past can help shape their future. Roots are something that everyone wants and if these two are going to find it, they'll have to grab ahold and trust.
This is a quick read that will make your heart fall in love all over again.
This was a cute and enjoyable story, love a story when it's incorporated with animals, these kinds of stories always make us smile. Axel and Tara made such a cute couple.
The characters were engaging and we really like them. Love second chance romances when a couple gets round two to get a chance at their happily ever after. For Axel and Tara, it wasn't about not loving one another, it was about their goals and dreams being different. Fate gave this couple a chance at being together once again, and it helps that after all these years you still think about the one that got away and that your heart still beats for your one true love. Axel with Bella just melted our heart.
Tara needs to follow her heart and put her fears to rest, and perhaps she will get all those things she ever dreamed of with the one man she has never truly purged from her heart...
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
Growing up, both Axel and Tara had plans for their lives. Sure, they dated all through high school but all during their relationship each knew their relationship had an end date. Axel wanted to move to LA and pursue his music career while Tara wanted to follow in her father's footsteps and become a vet.
A random look at his very first - and private - social media page, has Axel taking a second look. There she is - Tara Stillman - and living just down the road from him. Her relationship status says single, but is she?
Tara's a bit guarded about Axel has looked her up but her mother can't help but push her toward's Axel. She wants grandkids after all.
This second chance romance is a wonderful short read that is part of the 1001 Dark Nights series. You don't have to have read the first books of the Kingston Family series to enjoy this book and if you haven't, it will make you want to.

This is part of the Kingston Family series, but can definitely read as an introduction to the goodness of these books!
I really enjoyed seeing Axel use his bandmate's dog to get to meet up with his first love, Tara. It is a really cute second chance romance, and once again reminds us that the decisions we take at 18 don't have to define the rest of our lives. It was tough for Axel to hear what had happened to Tara when he left, and how she had to cope without him. Tara inevitably has her guard up, but it is also clear that the chemistry and history between them is pretty powerful.
A really engaging and enjoyable read - and I am already looking forward to the new releases coming up.
I love everything about the Kingston Family Series and Axel Forrester and Tara Stillman’s second chance at love is the perfect addition to this series. I was drawn in from the first page and there was no putting down until the final line had been read. Axel and Zara have a history but it’s been years since they have been in the same town and from the moment Axel realised the woman he let get away was close by he is determined to win her back. Problem is can he convince her he is worth the taking a second chance on….. This is a classic bad boy rockstar trying to prove he has changed his ways to his childhood sweetheart, it’s a quick read that tick all boxes and I’m sure if you one click it will tick yours to. I fell hard and fast for Axel, I adored Tara and I loved their story but it was secondary characters that took this book to another level. Just One Wish is a fast paced story with characters you will instantly bond with.
I enjoy shorter novels that are second chance, I think they work well and it allows there to be some backstory on the page that fills in the gaps that might otherwise be present in the story.
Axel and Tara were together years ago, and are now in the same place, but a lot of the reasons for their split still remain, and are even potentially still valid...the difference is that they are now older and, sometimes, with maturity comes an ability to process things differently and find solutions that work now that you didn't find then.
And, really, this is what this book is about. Getting a chance to right a wrong from the past that wasn't really "wrong" just situational.
Per usual I've enjoyed myself immensely with Carly Phillips book. I'm a fan of second chance and I've had a thing for Axel since he was introduced in the series and to see him find a great partner and a perfect match brought a huge smile on my face.
Tara was such a great character. I loved that she wanted to put up walls between them to avoid getting hurt but their connection was too powerful to deny and the HEA was in their reach.

Carly Phillips is back with s brand new novella in the infamous Kingston series and y'all, I adored every single moment in this book. A second chance romance that was years in the making... Just One Wish was everything I needed it to be in all the moments and especially with our two here. Swoon, heat, heart, all of those pesky little and big cells.
This beauty had EVERYTHING you can expect in a Carly book. An absolute must read.
I really enjoyed this novella, it was a sweet sexy read and I'm glad Axel got his HEA. Axel and Tara's story is second chance romance, one of my favourite tropes. Ideal for fans of the Kingston Family series, and also a great introduction for readers who haven't yet discovered the Kingston's.
I love these 1001 companion novellas, they have just enough to keep you in the story without being instalove. Because you are peeking into an established series you know the characters, so call it a quick fix.
I loved Axel when we met him in the Kingston series, and I am glad we get more of him. First, we get to see a side of him this reader did not expect, he is sweet and caring. Getting his second chance with his high school love, and using a dog to her attention, so cute. Tara needs some convincing that Axel is legit, but some meddling from mom and others helps. Her heart has some scars that are not quite healed. Both have achieved their professional dreams; is it time for the personal ones as well?
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
Such an adorable novella!! I bought the audio an it was perfect!! Highschool sweethearts found each other on the other side of the states , 10 years later :)
JUST ONE WISH is a second chance at romance and love for Ales Forrester and Tara Stillman. Once high school sweethearts, Alex and Tara went their separate ways to follow their dreams. This was such an enjoyable read that had a mixture of everything, laughter, a little bit of angst, and plenty of good times.
"Tara had never met a man who lived up to... well, Axel and what they shared."
Axel has achieved his dream of being in a successful rock band, and he is content in his life, until he sees a photo of his high school sweetheart on social media. Borrowing a friend's dog, he decides to pay Tara a visit. Tara has also fulfilled her dream of becoming a vet and is surprised when Alex saunters into the clinic where she works. From the moment they see each other again it is apparent that the chemistry and attraction between them has never disappeared.
"Winning her trust wasn't going to be easy."
Although Alex has never felt the need to settle down and commit himself to one place, seeing Tara again has him rethinking his priorities. He sees the people around him are happy, content, and are starting to think about having families with their partners, he realises he now wants the same. As happy as Tara is to have Alex back in her life, she is worried about the life he leads and that he doesn't look like he's ready to settle down. Alex knows what he wants though and is determined to show Tara that he can be the man she needs. Will he succeed in winning her heart? Can he change and be that man?
"All I ever wanted was you." "Back at you, baby."
JUST ONE WISH was a short, sweet, sexy story that had me constantly smiling. Fate has determined that Axel and Tara weren't finished with each other, and Carly Phillips ensures that they know it too. I loved their easy, playful banter, and the way in which they were able to slide effortlessly back into their friendship. Axel was adorable with the actions he took to ensure Tara that he was ready to be the man she could once again give her heart to.
This was another fun read in the Kingston family series, and I'm really looking forward to Just One Dare.
Part Of The Kingston Family World, Axel & Tara’s Rock Star Romance Is The Perfect Quick Read For Dog Lovers! Despite Its Length, This Story Captures All The Feels – A Few Tears, A Laugh Or Two, Some Adorable Doggy Moments, & Great Chemistry, Too.
ABOUT THIS BOOK & THE KINGSTON FAMILY SERIES:
This is a 1001 Dark Nights novella meant to introduce new readers to The Kingston Family series. The stories are interconnected, so although each reads as a standalone, they are best enjoyed as part of the series. This book, Just One Wish, takes place in the Kingston family world and falls between books four and five in the series.
This is Axel Forrester’s story. Cassidy, his sister, just found her happy ending with Dash Kingston in book four of the series. As a new fellow bandmate in the Original Kings as well as an in-law, Axel is an honorary Kingston family member.
The Kingston Family series includes: 1. Just One Night (Linc Kingston & Jordan Greene’s story) 2. Just One Scandal (Beckett Daniels & Chloe Kingston’s story) 3. Just One Chance (Xander Kingston & Sasha Keaton’s story) 4. Just One Spark (Dash Kingston & Cassidy Forrester’s story) 4.5 Just One Wish (Axel Forrester & Tara Stillman’s story) 5. Just One Dare (Nick Dare & Aurora Michaels’ story) 6. Just One Kiss (Knox Sinclair & Jade Dare’s story) 7. Just One Taste (the 3rd Dare sibling story - TBD) IN THIS BOOK:
As the story opens, it is June in East Hampton.
Axel Forrester, thirty, has experienced a lot of change in the last year. His long-time band, L.A.-based Caged Chaos, had rocketed him to success and helped him achieve the career of his dreams as a drummer and rock legend, but after years together, that had imploded a year ago. At the same time, his sister Cassidy had agreed to fake date famous rock star Dash Kingston of the Original Kings, for which she had worked as an assistant. After a visit, Dash and the guys – Jagger on guitar and Mac on bass – agreed to welcome Axel to their band. That meant moving across the country to East Hampton, New York. Life was a lot slower there, especially in the off-season, but he and the band kept busy writing music. The Kingstons had taken him in, making him feel like a member of the family. It meant a lot to him since he and Cassidy had been orphaned young and raised by their now-deceased grandmother.
In the meantime, more drama played out with the Original Kings after he joined. Dean, their manager, was now out, and they had restructured how they managed the band. Axel had moved out of Dash’s place in September, renting a house since he didn’t really know where he wanted to settle down. Dash and Cassidy ended up getting married for real over the winter, and Dash’s brother Xander had married Hollywood actress Sasha Keaton in the spring.
When not in the studio, Axel found himself spending most of his time between Dash’s and Xander’s homes. Watching his friends fall in love and settle down began to make him feel a bit lonely, but Xander’s dog Bella was always good company. What he really wanted was to find someone to settle down with. The groupies had been fun but entirely fake. He wanted something real. And there was only one woman in his life that had ever owned his heart.
Tara Stillman, about thirty, has achieved the career of her dreams. She works at East Hampton Vets for her godfather, Dr. Harry James. She had attended college and veterinary school in New York and had worked for him at the East Hampton and Manhattan offices over breaks. She prefers the East Hampton office and now lives nearby in a gatehouse on her mother and step-father’s property. She also has a dog that she adores.
Unfortunately, despite her achievements, her life is nothing like she had hoped. She had always imagined marriage and children, but there hasn’t been anyone that came close to measuring up to her old boyfriend. They dated throughout high school, but they always knew they would part ways after graduation. They each had goals, and those goals took them in different directions, so they just enjoyed one another for the time that they had together. What Tara hadn’t planned on was what happened after Axel left, and how that change had altered some of her plans and impacted her as a person. Her mother desperately hopes for grandchildren, but as the years go by, Tara has to wonder if it will ever happen.
When Axel discovers that his old girlfriend works as a vet in his new hometown, he decides it must be more than a coincidence. Fate is at work, and he is ready to grab onto his own piece of happiness. Tara has some hesitations, though, and it will take a strong will and some bold action to win back her heart. They soon find a happy ending.
Wow! Axel and Tara’s story is short, steamy, and very sweet. Axel makes some swoony moves. Dog lovers will especially fall in love with this story as Axel opens his heart up to Tara. Tara has built rock-solid walls to protect herself from pain, but she always has space for her love of animals – dogs in particular.
After becoming an honorary member of the Kingston family, Axel hopes for his own happy ending. Fate is at play when it turns out that his high school flame lives and works nearby. Their reunion was inevitable, but their happy ending is not. Despite its length, this story captures all the feels. There are a few tears and even a laugh or two. Some adorable doggy moments will tug at your heartstrings. And the couple has great chemistry, too. I enjoyed the fact that although Axel is a rock star and has lived the rock star lifestyle, it isn’t really dwelled upon. He is ready to move on and grow up, and he came to that conclusion on his own before learning about Tara’s whereabouts. So often the bad boy rock star makes a lot of big mistakes, so this is a refreshing take.
Axel and Tara’s rock star romance is the perfect quick read for dog lovers. Their story is well-written. The plot is fairly simple. The characters are three-dimensional and real. The story is told in third person. The POV alternates between Axel and Tara. I rate this book 4.5 stars.
I received an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first Just One Night (The Kingston Family #1) Just One Scandal (The Kingston Family #2) Just One Chance (The Kingston Family #3) Just One Spark (The Kingston Family #4)
This is Tara and Axel's story. These two have a history. When he looks her up and finds out they are in the same town he is determined to get a second chance. He pulls out all the stops but will it be enough after all the time that has passed?
Second chances 〰️ten years apart. Axel and Tara once high school sweethearts, went their separate ways in search of following their dreams. Tara sought becoming a veterinarian and Axel followed his, becoming a rock star.
Axel finds Tara and convinces her to a date, rekindling their romance.
I’m always happy to delve into the world of Carly Phillips’ Kingstons - or any world she creates, to be honest. This book is inter-connected to the Kingston Family series, although neither Axel nor Tara is a Kingston, and is a complete standalone. It’s a fairly short book at just 125 pages long to fit into the short format of 1001 Dark Nights stories.
Our hero, Axel, is a drummer in a hugely successful rock band and the heroine is his first love, and local vet, Tara. It was good that our pair had a history with each other prior to the events of the book as it’s always difficult to have a good connection between a couple when a book is short.
Rockstars aren’t really my thing but Axel is a nice guy and fairly down to earth. Throughout the book he moves around the town without any paparazzi or fans mobbing him, so you’d be forgiven for forgetting his superstar status. I adored his relationship with Bella (the dog) as well as with Tara, of course! I just wished that Axel’s motivation for reconnecting with Tara was because he could never get over her. It seemed, until he saw her online, that he had barely given her a second thought after their agreed break up back in high school.
I also didn’t like that Axel said that he wanted Tara but he wouldn’t give up touring with the band for her. For me, realistic or not, I want the hero to be so in love that he would give up anything and everything for the heroine. And the heroine to be so equally in love that she wouldn’t allow the hero to give up on his dreams. Same outcome but different motivations.
Tara was an equally nice character and I have to admit that I loved her best when she was drunk at her sister’s bachelor party. Love me a bit of drunken shenanigans! She was very much a small-town, want to settle down and have a family, kind of girl. As I said, I liked her.
Tara was reticent of rekindling her relationship from the first, which did put a little bit of a dampener on the sexual tension between the couple. But when they did get together they definitely had that quintessential Carly Phillips magic.
Again, the shortness of the book made the ending come quickly and the resolution of the barriers to the relationship feeling quite an abrupt u-turn. I would have liked to see how the couple dealt with their different schedules but I reconcile myself to the fact that I will hopefully see more of them as a couple in the forthcoming books in the series.
This was a short, sweet and cute romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. It’s still got Carly Phillips’ magic blend of romance, banter, relationships and sexiness - but ultimately I wanted a wee bit more of, well, something. 4 stars.

I just love when an author gives us a sweet connecting novella to bridge two series and bring us closure for a character that has come into the lives of the main characters for a secondary reason. Carly is great at doing this for us and her latest story does it again. Axel Forrester came into the lives of the Kingston family when he joined Dash’s band the Original King’s also bringing his sister closer into their circle which gave her and Dash the perfect excuse to fall deeper in love and have their HEA. But that of course left us wondering “what about Axel?”; well in Just One Wish we get to see Axel get a second chance at love with his high school girlfriend and first love when he discovers she is in his new hometown. Axel finds himself more and more at loose ends when he isn’t working on his music, seeing his sister and new friends all settled into marital bliss and wondering when he will find love and a mature relationship. He stumbles across his old girlfriend on social media and discovers she is just down the road now and, with the help of a cute and loving pup, he goes to sweep her off her feet. Tara Stillman lost her heart to Axel years ago, but since then her life has been devoted to work and her family. She never imagined her first love would walk into her veterinary practice, with a borrowed dog in order to ask her out. Quickly they both learn that they still have deep feelings for one another, but can their differences be overcome in order for them to have a relationship? I really enjoyed this short read and getting to see Axel as he came to terms with some of the behaviors and parts of his life that might not have made him so obviously marketable as the perfect lover. He learned and grew as a person in a short period of time in order to become the man that he needed to be to offer Tara the love and committed relationship she deserved. Tara was a little bit fearful in the beginning, but at the same time she never denied her feelings for Axel or that she wanted him deeply. I loved watching the playfulness between them and the sweetness as Axel worked hard to convince Tara that she could rely on him and give her heart again. I am dying for the next story in this long running series arc which will begin the new Dirty Dares Series (Just One Dare) and that new series looks to be intriguingly sexy for sure. Carly keeps the magic coming and I see no end in sight for the Dare family and their friends.
3.75 stars—JUST ONE WISH is instalment 4.5 and novella in Carly Phillips’ contemporary, adult KINGSTON FAMILY erotic, romance series, and the author’s latest offering to the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights series. This is thirty year old, veterinarian Dr. Tara Stillman, and rock musician /drummer Axel Forrester’s story line. JUST ONE WISH can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous storyline is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Axel and Tara) JUST ONE WISH follows the second chance relationship between thirty year olds, veterinarian Dr. Tara Stillman, and drummer Axel Forrester. Axel and Tara were high school sweethearts but Tara wanted to become a veterinarian, and Axel wanted to become a rock star, so our couple went their separate ways. Fast forward to present day, and Axel, scrolling through social media, locates his first and only love, and puts a plan into motion to reconnect with Tara Stillman. Seeing Axel brought back too many memories for our story line heroine but curiosity won, and with her mother’s insistence, Tara took a chance, getting together with the man that broke her heart. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between Tara and Axel, as Axel must come to a decision about his future with the woman he loves.
The relationship between Tara and Axel is one of second chances; high school sweethearts whose future ambitions went in different directions, eventually reconnecting several years later, picking up where they had originally left off. Axel’s band mates and family were beginning to settle down, and Axel was looking forward to a family of his own. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text. The couple’s rekindling romance came with very little conflict or regrets about the past.
We are introduced to Tara’s mother Marsha, and pet adoption centre owner Norah, as well as the return of Melly Kingston, Dash and Cassidy Kingston.
JUST ONE WISH is a quick read; a fast paced story of second chances, reconnecting and love. The premise is engaging; the romance is seductive; the characters are flirty and fun.
*An advance reader copy was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.*
Axel Forrester and Tara Stillman were high school sweethearts. They both had dreams of their own… his was to be a famous musician and hers was to follow in her father’s footsteps in becoming a veterinarian and one day taking over his practice. They did the mature thing after graduation by breaking up so neither one held the other one back.
Years later, Axel is now the drummer for the Original Kings and has made his home in East Hamptons, NY when not touring. He’s got his bandmates, his sister (who’s married to the front man of the Original Kings) and his friend’s dog, Bella. One day while scrolling through social media he stumbles upon that his first (and only) love has relocated to the same city and did become a veterinarian. Within minutes, he borrows Bella just to have a chance to see her again.
Tara came to New York for college and vet school, even though her father passed away right after her high school graduation, which meant leaving her grieving mother behind in California, but with her mother’s blessing. Tara’s mom sold her husband’s practice and moved East to be with her daughter. Luckily, Tara’s godfather has a veterinarian practice in East Hamptons, where Tara is now working with the idea that she will take over once her godfather retires.
The attraction is still there between the two of them. But Tara tries to throw up her walls, knowing that she wants a man in her life who will be around, and not off touring the world 6 to 9 months a year. Axel sees his sister and his friends starting to settle down and knows that’s what he wants for himself. Can he make Tara see that he’s still the right man for her? My only wish is that this novella was longer.
If you're looking for cute and fluffy with a side of insta-lust, this second chance romance is for you!
Carly Phillips Just One Wish is a cute, sweet novella about a rock star who tries everything (including some dumb things) to get back with the veterinarian he walked away from at the end of high school.
Tara and Axel agreed to go their separate ways at the end of high school to see where the world led them, not knowing that so much could happen in a short ten years.
Tara is sweet, somewhat naive in my opinion, and seems to want everything to be in just the right place at just the right time when she meets back up with Axel. It felt like she wanted Axel to be all settled, and ready for marriage, but she was still going out and getting so drunk she was going home without realizing who was taking her where.
Axel I had more issues with. He's cute, the kind of rock star everyone wants to take home, but certain comments during their sexy times REALLY put me off. Their is no need to continue to perpetuate the toxic male culture so prevalent in our society.
All of this compounded with Axel wanting to get a dog to make Tara see that he's settled, even if he didn't end up getting one in that moment, made it feel like the story was rushed. It didn't feel like there was any point where the couple was falling in love, but that they were already there.
Even in most second chance romance that I love to read there is a point where the couple comes back together, the heightened expectations, the love that is almost new again.
All of this led me to a 3.5 which I hate to give, but this story needed some definite work in my opinion.
Just One Wish is a solid addition to The Kingston Family series. It's a second-chance romance that gave us the story of two high school sweethearts who reconnect and it was enjoyable from the start.
Tara had always envisioned her life going differently than it did. She had big dreams to go to school in New York to become a vet and then she was going to return home to California to work with her Dad at the vet clinic. When her Dad unexpectedly passed away, all her plans changed. She ended up in New York with her Mom moving there and she took over her godfather's vet practice when he retired.
Axel had always wanted to be in a band and make it. He was part of one band and then when that one didn't work out, he was approached about becoming the drummer for The Original Kings. While he's never been one to settle down, much of that reasoning lies in the fact that he never got over his first love, Tara. Now that they are back in the same town, he's determined to see if there is anything still there.
Using his relationship with his bandmates dog, Bella, he goes to visit Tara at her clinic. Will she give him a chance to prove that he's ready to be what she needs and wants him to be? Or will she close the door on a relationship before they even get started again?
Just One Wish was filled with humor, heart and heat and I recommend picking it up!
**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title in exchange for an honest review**
This novella is a spinoff from the Kingston family series and is a standalone. It follows Cassidy’s brother Axel (who is the new drummer for Dash’s band The original Kings), as he reunites with his high school sweetheart. This book is written in third person and ends with a HEA. I really appreciated the loneliness Axel is experiencing. He moved across the country, integrated into a new band, finds himself living in a pretty empty house, and discovers that he wants a connection in his life that means more. I love his level of feelings and emotion for Tara. I love how he is firm about wanting more from her while still being respectful. The passion, history, and emotion between them is special. Tara must overcome some abandonment issues before she is able to see what Axel is showing her. Once she lets him back into her heart, a sweet and gooey HEA is inevitable. I also appreciated the author’s description of the relationship Axel has with Xander’s dog, Bella. I loved the message of adopt don’t shop. There are several lovable animals in this book. Bella, Dakota, and Walter all have a place in my heart. This has been a very enjoyable series so far and I loved seeing Axel find love and a happy future. I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.
I really enjoyed this short be a sweet novella that is a great companion to this brilliant series. I'm glad Axel was the character that got to tell his story, although it only was a glimpse. But I feel he needed something.
His and Tara's story is a second chance romance, one with no-nonsense, not angst, just a man that knew what he wanted and he wasn't going to ever walk away again. Tara was a great character, apart from a little fear because everyone left her but she was scared her heart would be broken again. Well, this time she grabs happiness with both hands.
This is a great quick story and one I feel was just enough to see Axel get his happiness. A huge recommendation for this novella and the series.
