I received a free copy of this book from a Goodreads giveaway.
I did not finish this book. It is a sales pitch. It's full of trendy buzzwords about self-care. I actually really love the idea of making your alone time ritualistic; it helps you be present. Where this author goes wrong for me is in tying wellness to a beauty regimen and having a hugely bizarre amount of directions to follow for what is supposed to be a 3 month program.
Might be a bit rude to say, but seeing an endorsement from a Goop executive didn't help this book's case. (Goop is Gwyneth Paltrow's trendy new age wellness website/store).
Full of beauty rituals and affirmations for self-love, this book practically oozes with creams and the scent of roses. 50 prompts, plans, and rituals for a more radiant you. Enjoyable to read, with its emphasis on authentic beauty. Highly recommended! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!
This book was very helpful to me. I found it at a difficult time and this gave me a lot of hope. My story is so similar to hers and I love that she shows how we treat our skin is how we treat our soul. I have now given myself permission to take time to rest, reflect, and get off the career hamster wheel to take care of myself too.
This book is excellent for everyone - I loved it and I do refer back so many times.
Seldom we come across authors or people who are willing to put their life experience, secrets and successes and failure stories out there to the public and in one book. When reading this book, you see that, the author, Angela Jia Kim, did summaries her successes and failures and provided you with the know-how and summary of how to avoid failures and achieve successes in life, love, business, kids, family and friend and this is translated into the 12 weeks self-love program. This book will make you look at things differently and invite and focus on abundance and self-love which is translated into love to others starting with yourself. Highly recommended for all ages and everyone really, everyone.
Wonderful read! The author shares her failure and successes with life, family and friends. Something we all deal with, but she gives a 12 week self-love program to loving ourselves. This in turn, helps us to learn and deal with things with a different, positive perspective.
Loved this! The author presented well researched information specifically focused on well being and mindfulness. I think we could all use a gentle reminder on how to take care of ourselves, our time and our peace - this book aids with that and regrouping the mind / body.
I was so impressed with this book that, by any other writer, would have felt light and insubstantial. This is a very thoughtful and very doable program and much needed today. I love the gardening metaphors throughout (pull weeds, plant seeds). Highly recommend!
This book is a little nightmare of regular American self-care bullshit. Ever been on Instagram and swiped through stories of self-care influencers? That’s this book. There’s nothing useful or new in this book. Here’s a quote from the introduction that really highlights how I feel about it: “One of my ‘aha!’ moments happened while on tour before a piano performance; I put on a ‘natural’ lotion on my body and broke out into horrible hives in front of hundreds of people. It was a humiliating experience. After the recital, I saw that the ingredients were full of chemicals.” Everything’s full of chemicals! This is useless to me! I’m allergic to coconut oil, that’s going to send me into anaphylactic shock, that doesn’t mean that nobody should use it! (Also lots of the suggestions do involve coconut oil.) One star.
I was struck by "how you treat your skin is how you treat your soul." This is the basis of this selfcare book, which hits all the trending notes now. Learning to love yourself, selfcare, woman entrepreneurship, the pandemic, and on top of it, the author is Asian. The publisher released the right book at the right time!
The writer seems so friendly, warm, and inviting. She makes her life in NYC seem so fun but also shares her struggles as a single mom and running a business during COVID very frankly. I learned a lot from this book and will be revisiting the rituals from time to time. Thanks for the advance copy to the publisher!

Initially, I was drawn to “Radical Radiance” by its fresh, bright, feminine cover. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I opened the book, but with care and joie de vivre, experience and research, Angela Jia Kim shares how to live a life filled with radiance, magic, and happiness. You want to be her best friend – her energy is that contagious – and her book is a breath of fresh air, positive and uplifting.

Synopsis
At one time or another we’ve all felt the opposite of radiant: stressed out, stretched thin, imbalanced, or just unhappy. In our unpredictable and chaotic world of today, it’s easy to collapse under the weight of these feelings.
Angela Jia Kim has been studying and perfecting inner and outer beauty her whole life – first as a concert pianist, then at the helm of the Savor Beauty + Spa brand, helping transform and inspire women everywhere. True beauty, according to Angela, is “radical radiance”, or the illumination of your most authentic self that shines from your being: your skin, your eyes, your smile, your actions, the way you live, and who you are.
In “Radical Radiance”, Kim draws upon her Korean heritage to create an innovative self-care program that allows the reader to hone their inner and outer beauty with twelve simple rituals, which can either be followed routinely like a guided course or explored individually as needed. Each ritual allows the reader to target an important area, such as the ability to live authentically, to manifest what they want, or to achieve flow and resilience.
A huge thank you to @NetGalley, @StMartinsPress and @StMartinsEssentials for the advanced reader’s e-galley.
I discovered this book when my amazing, beautiful cousin treated me to the best facial of my life at Savor Beauty in NYC as a pre-wedding gift. The book was so cute and visually appealing that I had to pick it up and flip through it.
At the time, I remember thinking, “Super cute, but I am way too lazy to actually do any of these rituals. I wish I could be the type of person that cared enough to follow through with this.” So I put the adorable book back on the shelf.
A few days after my facial, I had the smoothest, clearest, most radiant skin of my life. I started thinking to myself, “Hmm, maybe I can be one of those people who cares enough to do daily skin rituals.” Since I am always listening to audiobooks, I decided to download the audio version of Radical Radiance from my library app and gave it a try.
I found myself not only inspired by the author’s stories, but genuinely excited by the joyful tone of the narrator. I could not only hear, but feel the passion, love, and care poured into each word. Suddenly, I was actually looking forward to going home and trying out some of these rituals on myself.
Over the course of just two weeks, I developed my very own custom morning and evening skincare routine that is now my favorite part of every day. What once felt overwhelming now feels grounding, joyful, and even a little luxurious. I now mindfully savor and truly enjoy every moment of the skincare routines that once intimidated me.

As an integrative life and wellness coach, I was drawn in by this book's title and the promise of its tagline - 12 Weeks of Self-Love Rituals to Manifest Abundance, Beauty, and Joy. Unfortunately, it fell significantly short of expectations. First, the book reads more like an advertorial than a guide for self-care, cultivating joy, or developing beauty rituals, and the content quality was disappointingly shallow. Kim's writing has a very prescriptive, almost condescending tone; the affirmations are trite and impersonal; and rather than coming across as an altruistic authority in this space, the author reads as a salesperson. The title and lovely cover hint at so much more depth and warmth than are actually found in the pages.
(Disclaimer: I am Angela Jia Kim's publicist, and I received access to this book as a part of our work together.) Since reading this book, I have totally transformed my skincare routine and feel so much more intentional about how I approach simple tasks like washing my face or layering on moisturizer. I definitely used to approach these as things I have to do, and now they feel like tiny moments of appreciation instead. Beyond that, I loved completing exercises in the book like crafting and recording my radiance intentions (her version of goal setting meets manifestation). It's a quick read, and it gave me space to reflect on how I was spending my time and the way I had set up my own self-care routine.
This book was SO good. Angela is so full of wisdom and I felt so inspired in so many ways as I read and followed along in the challenges she recommended each week. While I'm not fully through my 12 weeks of self love, my understanding of how to nourish and care for different areas of my life has increased. I already adore Angela's Savor Beauty business (her facial products AND her planners have blown me away) but her wisdom and experience has resonated with me on such a personal level and I'm excited for the changes her book has inspired me to make. I'm incredibly grateful to her for sharing her thoughts and experiences in this book and would recommend everyone to read it and see how it can apply to you too.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press & Angela Jia Kim for providing this book, which I won in a Goodreads giveaway.
Positives: I feel that the best way to enjoy this book is to not take it so literally. It is best to focus on the main themes of confidence, inner beauty, mindfulness, & gratitude. It reminds you to be present & enjoy life's little pleasures. It reminds you to slow down & to treat yourself gently. It recommends self love as a tool to improve one's life in all aspects.
Negatives: At times this book read like an advertisement for Angela Jia Kim's various businesses & products. Many of the rituals began to feel very repetitive.
What a perfect time to read this book. I've been needing a "reset" and after following just a few of the radiance rituals, I already see my old self coming back. This feels very different from other self-help books I've read. Adding the skin care element to self care is a game changer. As I see my skin glowing more and more, I feel my soul glowing as well. I also love the behind-the-scenes stories. It's like a manual on how to attract success and love - while looking and feeling radiantly gorgeous along the way.
Radical Radiance aims to help readers find their power to manifest beauty, abundance, and joy. Radical Radiance is unlike any other self-help book I’ve read. Kim mainly focuses on self-care rituals, such as skincare and affirmations. I found the material in this book to be quite repetitive. Nonetheless, it was still an enjoyable read. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
An interesting book on self-love rituals. The idea is that there are 12 weeks to “ manifest abundance, beauty, and joy.” I honestly felt as though a big focus was placed on skin care routines, with a number of references to the author’s business. I do feel many of the rituals require time and intent and one would need motivation to complete. I did learn from reading this book and feel that is an accomplishment for any book.
This book is similar to others I have read in the 'reclaiming your radiance' genre. I almost cringe just writing that sentence, and there is a big part of me that wanted to wrap the cover in a paper bag so I wouldn't be caught reading such a silly book. I picked it up for the first chapter on skin care routines, and ended up reading the whole thing just to see where it would go. Take the parts you like, and ignore the rest.
Nothing really radical here. While there's a few interesting tid- bits, like the manifestation wheel, it's largely a marketing platform for her skin care line disguised as a self help book. While the Raidiance rituals (read: journaling) are food for thought, if I tried to fit them all into my life in the manner she suggests, I wouldn't have time to wash my face let alone apply all the other products she pushes.
What a unique spin on self care—first learning how to care for the skin and using the same principles to apply to the soul. I will never approach washing my face the same way again! This book was a light and fun read with so many little gems that I wrote down in my journal. I enjoyed her journey with honest successes and failures while she built her business and experienced burnout. Perfect balance of being relatable but aspirational at the same time
I never thought to think of the skin and soul as one. Being Korean, I thought the author did a remarkable job going deep with k-beauty which is never addressed. It was fascinating to understand that Korean women have been obsessed with their skin since AD times and the explanation of why—that one’s inner being soul is reflected in the outer being.
For that outer glow that arises from nourishing your inner glow, look no further than Radical Radiance. Angela's message of self-care and self-love resonates deeply. Her simple steps to balance your soul-care with your skin-care are will get you started on the path to radiance, contentment, and beauty. Highly recommended!
I was so excited to get this because I have been trying to do more self care. So I sat our to do all of the 12 weeks but sadly I didn't make it one. This book was so bogged down by things that just didn't work for me. I was bored to tears and just couldn't do any of the journaling that was in this one. I think that if you are looking for a journey to do self care to check out another book.
Radical Radiance is a beautiful book about manifesting abundance, beauty and joy. I loved the skin care rituals and manifesting lessons. I highly recommend this book. It is unique and in a class of its own.
This book is a great self-help book about inner and outer radiance. The author has some great points. I would like to put her system in place in my own life.
