Intuitive: Known or perceived by intuition.

Psychic: Sensitive to nonphysical or supernatural forces and influences : marked by extraordinary or mysterious sensitivity, perception, or understanding.

Medium: An individual held to be a channel of communication between the earthly world and a world of spirits.

The above are Miriam-Webster’s definition of an intuitive, a psychic, and a medium, three different levels of knowing or perceiving energy, with intuitive being the least sensitive of the three. (Please note, this is my own perception of the three; I’m sure others may disagree or view them differently, but it’s important to note since this is the viewpoint my review is coming from.)

To me, everyone has some level of intuition with the only difference being how in tune we are to it. Psychic abilities are a step up from intuitive and could include sensing spirits, feeling others emotions, seeing auras, etc. Some people are born with psychic abilities, but everyone can learn them to some extent. A medium is a person who can see and/or communicate with spirits. I think this is an ability one must be born with, I don’t think it can be learned (again, just my opinion).

That said, I honed in on the “develop psychic abilities” part of this title and thought, “Cool, let’s see what I can learn.” The short answer is - not much. I was expecting exercises along the lines of Psychic Witch by Mat Auryn or at least clear examples. Instead, the book is a collection of often rambling, frequently repeating, stories about the author’s life and how she became a professional psychic. There are a few hints and tips on developing your own intuition, but nothing beyond that and even those are vague.

The stories that are included jump from topic to topic with little to no structure. One chapter began with the comment that the author had been interested in astrology, then veered off into a repeat of her early marriage and introduction to spirituality, never returning to astrology again.

At best, this book should be billed to be about Char’s journey to becoming a professional psychic medium and not as a resource for developing psychic abilities. Even then, it could have used a developmental edit to tie the stories together into some form of cohesion.

I rarely, if ever, suggest giving a book a miss, but I’m doing that with this one. If you’re a huge Char Margolis fan, then you may want to read it.

The title was interesting enough for me to pick it up from the "New Book" section at the local library, BUT I feel like the title is misleading.

The book was a collection of the author's experiences peppered with hints and ideas about how she developed her abilities or improved her own abilities.

Having said that, the scenarios she shared made for an interesting read.

All my life I have had inklings, feelings, that I feel things differently than those around me. Although I have read other books regarding this phenomenon Char Margolis simplifies the steps into concise and accurate stages, although me to experiment with these notions and feelings.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and will probably come back to ready it again and again.

I enjoyed this more than I expected to. The stories were interesting. It was very repetitive and that’s saying something for an already very short book. Even though I can’t really buy into the spirit side of things I like the reminder to follow your intuition.

Really basic information. Hard skim for me through a lot of it. Maybe 3 or 4 pages of simple shielding/protection techniques spread throughout the entire book. Mostly this book is stories about her career and readings she's done for others. Not really a good resource for intuition/psychic development. The tone of this book is more of a "psychics are definitely real, trust your intuition" 101 pep talk peppered in between the personal stories. I'd recommend The Intuition Guidebook by Cyndi Dale, Psychic Workshop by Kim Chestney, Discover Your Psychic Type by Sherrie Dillard and The Gifts Beneath Your Anxiety by Pat Longo for in-depth descriptions of the different clairs, and techniques for self protection and development.

I often have what many call “Deja vu” but really, it’s that psychic side of me showing itself. Recently we received a phone call as we were making dinner. It was a call I had known was coming and was heart broken that its time had come. It’s not the first time this has happened either. Has this happened to you? Think it might be some latent psychic ability? I suggest reading this book to help you understand and learn how to tap into your inherent talent. 

Char Margolis will take you through seven steps to help you along the way. If you’ve read this far you really should purchase this book…it’s what you’ve been looking for!

Maybe more for a female style of reading didn't fully absorb the concept. More research to support your argument. Don't judge a book by us cover should have been more vocabulary words the writing fragment was very elementary with way to many runs sentence to many commons. If everything resurface back to the begin to reinforce key information still was kind of fun to read. Keep this in note if terms if you write another one. Please, note this is purely off of artists development and artists constructive criticism as key point for me with a higher rating no hate peace..."Live and direct Incredibles Upper Echelon"

The stories in this book were fun. It’s what got me to actually check it out from the library when I started randomly skimming through it. There were a couple useful ideas in it, too. I started using a couple of her prayers, and I’ve found them useful. (It doesn’t even have to be “real” to be useful. The idea has been helping me to set some emotional boundaries, whether it’s truly “spiritual” or not.) There is significantly less “teaching you how to be psychic” than the book claims, though. Most of the exercises are just writing down times when you’ve had intuitive feelings that you should have obeyed.

I'm not psychic before or after reading this, but I'm sure it takes lots of practice and time for most people, and it may never happen for many. Nonetheless, there are some very practical approaches and ideas here that will help some readers. Many of the approaches are questionable in that they are open to interpretation (e.g. that butterfly is sending a message about X), so it can be tough to discern what experiences "real". But this will benefit some and be a fun exercise for others.

I've known of Char Margolis for some time. This book was an interesting read, and I loved the various stories not only about her own experiences but others who have been fortunate to have a reading. I love the structure, with tips and areas where you could go back and get a summary quickly. I recommend this book. I have to confess before reading You Are Psychic I had never heard of Char Margolis. I wanted to read this book because I already knew I have some psychic ability and I wanted to learn how to increase it. Ms Margolis does give tips to the reader on how to tune into our body and feelings, and to listen to that "gut" feeling. I want to thank NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an early copy to review.

A definite must on any self-help reading book list. I am a licensed psychologist and I have read many self-help books. This is the best one I have read to date. I am recommending it to my clients because it definitely helps all of us to rid ourselves of anxiety depression and fear. Char Margolis teaches us how to empower ourselves to live a healthier and happier life. This book is an easy and quick read. It is a page turner.

Quite an easy read. Lots of self-promotion, though. Full of sample stories... almost too many. She has easy steps to improve our own psychic guidance... and encourages the reader(s) to journal and take notes. For those interested in trusting their own "gut", "intuition", this is a good starting point.

Not only is the content fantastic and stories interesting BUT each chapter is recapped in an easy to remember summary! Highly recommend. This book is helping me listen to my inner intuition, and has helped me to live in faith not fear. It really has helped keep my anxiety at bay.

I thought this would have more practical advice. It’s just a lot of anecdotes, self promotion, cliches. The advice consists of journaling, listening to your intuition, and paying attention to your dreams and “signs.” Gave it a few stars because the anecdotes were interesting or amusing at least.

the book states that you don't have to be born with the gift in order to be psychic but you can train yourself to be psychic and know the signs. Some signs the books states that could be apart of your psychic abilities are nudges from the universe, gut feelings, nagging thoughts you can't get rid of, stomach upset or nausea on if something bad is going to happen, dreams, imagination, things we say, deja vu, reading signs, smells, and electrical signs. as you can see the author states that we can receive signed from the universe in many different ways and they can be interoperated in different ways. they said children's have divine intuition, similar when you hear of how dogs and cats can sense spirits. the book focuses on messages, signs, spirit guides, angels and how to interoperate the messages.& signs you receive. the book has short stories of people and their experiences. it says you are able to tap into your psychic abilities but you have to practice. i wish there were more exercises on how to open up your gift. some photos would be nice to see as well, i wish the different types of psychics were addressed, such as the 4 clairs, clairaudience, clairvoyance, Clairsentience, Claircognizance. i wanted to learn more about the 4 main clairs, i want to learn about mediums develop their abilities. i received this arc from NG and this is my voluntary review.

The book was really well written and gave some really good guided questions to help me understand myself more. Book is very detailed in guiding you and understanding who you are as a person.

Char Margolis gives a strong in depth look into the mind of a psychic. She doesn't try to affect your judgement or make you believe into anything that she believes in. Not a single part of the book is dull and boring there are many examples and allows you to interact throughout the book. She also keeps it entertaining with the audience.

I just couldn't get into this book. The many tellings of other people's stories and then bringing it back around to the point were really grating on my nerves. Also never got to the point where we find out what the steps are and I got past the halfway point of the book. This is a no from me.
