Blue Moon Bay #3

A Lot Like Forever

Rate this book
A Lot Like Forever is the third installment in the Blue Moon Bay series by USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Snow. Contains mature themes.

Whitney Carlisle has everything under control—or at least that’s what she needs everyone in Blue Moon Bay to think. She has always faced the hard times in her life head-on and come out stronger for it. But this time, she isn’t so sure. Whitney knows she needs help, but how can she put that burden on Trent, her fiancé? How can she crush his dreams by telling him the plans they made for a future together have to change?

All Trent Connolly wants is to get married, have kids, and spend the rest of his life loving Whitney. Their relationship has had its share of ups and downs—like any other couple—and they’ve always managed to get through it unscathed. So when Whitney is clearly struggling with something, Trent is ready to help. His fiancée’s strong will is part of what draws him to her—but this time, it feels like it’s pushing him away.

Whatever Whitney is hiding from everyone has to be big. Possibly life-changing. She must believe that revealing her secret would do Trent more harm than good, even if it crushes her under the weight of it. The only thing he can do now is be there for her in whatever way she needs…until a secret of his own comes to light that threatens to steal their chance at forever.

This is a Romance, and this is the third book in the Blue Moon Bay series. This book is summed up by just saying "Just talk to each other". I just wanted to put all the characters in this book in one room and yell just talk to each other please because I am sick of hearing all your whining. This whole book is you hearing whining while none of the characters talked to each other about anything important. I do not know why I did not just DNF this book. The ending was the only good thing that happened in this book. I really hate when characters do not talk to each other can you tell...LOL. Honestly, this book was boring and one big headache. I wanted so much more from this book. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

How is it that I have never read a Jennifer Snow book before? I loved every page of A LOT LIKE FOREVER and need to read her backlist very soon, like yesterday! Whitney Carlisle has a wonderful fiance named Trent Connolly who basically worships the ground she walks on. There is nothing this man won’t do for Whitney. So why is she hesitant to follow through on their wedding plans? Why does he feel like she is pushing him away? Whitney has a secret of course. A big life changing secret and she won’t share it with anyone!

A LOT LIKE FOREVER at different points in the book, frustrated me. Trent and Whitney have been together for seven years and she feels she can’t tell him her big secret? To say these two had a communication problem would be such an under statement! The story goes back and forth from present day to when Trent and Whitney first started dating which I thought was very cool as the reader gets a glimpse of how their relationship has grown.

I still can’t believe A LOT LIKE FOREVER is my very first Jennifer Snow book. I am beyond excited to read her previous books! She made me feel so many different things while I was reading this heart-tugging story. One minute I’m giggling and the next there is a huge lump in my throat. All of the characters are flawed in different ways, but you will find yourself cheering for them throughout the book. My heart melted while Trent tried to figure out what Whitney really wanted. I tried not to rush through their story. I truly wanted these two to work out their problems and repair their relationship. I just wanted to reach in the pages and give them all hugs. I can’t wait to read more by this wonderful author.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from TLC Book Tours. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

A Lot Like Forever by Jennifer Snow is such an incredible book. I absolutely loved it!
To call Whitney Carlisle an overachiever would be an understatement. This woman won't let anything, or anyone hold her back. She's at the top of her game at work arriving before everyone else and leaving after everyone else. She works for the mayor and feels like she needs to constantly prove her worth even though she's been there for some time.
Her overworking and lack of sleep is causing her health problem symptoms that she just ignores, she has a job to do and just can't be bothered. Well, we all know what happens when you ignore your health as it eventually catches up to her.
Whitney has the most amazing fiancée, Trent. In his eyes she can do no wrong. If you're looking for a guy this is the kind you want. Knowing Whiteny so well he can see that she is keeping a secret from him, but he just has no idea how big it is or the affects it will have on their relationship.
Why is it we always hurt the ones we love the most? This is exactly what happens when Whitney breaks up with Trent think he'll be better off without her. After the breakup she finds out something totally unexpected about Trent as well. Though broken up they both still love each other deeply. Will they be able to work through the turmoil and find peace, harmony and complete trust in each other?
Such an emotional book, I wanted to give Whiteny advice several times while reading this.
I hope there are going to be more books in this series. I'll be first in line to read them.

This one really didn’t hit me like I had hoped.

I really didn’t like that the heroine held back so many issues and feelings for so long and I didn’t understand why she didn’t just talk about it especially with the hero who I really liked. He would do anything to help her and be there for her but he was kept in ignorance for the most of the book and I didn’t like that.

Too much miscommunication and to many lies but a sweet hero and an ok ending gives two stars unfortunately.

I got this book from Entangled publishing and Netgalley and this is my honest opinion and my voluntary review.

This is a book that I had so many hopes on and I really wanted so much from this one here. But I will be honest in that I came out of this story highly disappointed. The major plot of the story is that its based off of a lie and I really hated that. I struggle with heroines as it is but the way she deceived her fiancee all the way through the book and then hardly did a grovel and put all the blame on him and refusing to take accountability really drove me bananas. Now I swept through this audiobook, so it was highly engaging and I just wanted these two to reach their HEA. But you basically have the heroine who has a chronic illness and lies to everyone and the one person she should be honest with is her fiancee of seven years. And then when the truth comes out, she acts all hurt and blames him for being in shock and really it wasn't the illness it was more that she deceived him for over a year. And she hardly did any grovel. When it comes to groveling, it doesn't matter if you are a hero or the heroine, if you wrong the other, there needs to be a decent sincere grovel and there was none of that in this one. So as much as I wanted to love it, I just couldn't due to the heroine's actions. However, I will say that the rest of the story other than the heroine was AMAZING! There was such cozy Fall vibes so if you are looking for a great Autumn feel, I do recommend it. It was so atmospheric and really got me more into the mood for the Autumn season. Now I do plan on reading more of this author but this one I really struggled with.

A Lot Like Forever is the third book in the Blue Moon Bay series by Jennifer Snow. In this book we meet Whitney Carlisle and her wonderful fiancé, Trent Connolly. Trent is one of those men who are few and far between. He loves Whitney and is looking forward to getting married and having children. He will do whatever he can to make her happy and make life easier for her, so why is she so hesitant to set a date? She has a secret and is not willing to tell anyone what it is. She is working a lot of hours to pay for her mother's care and doesn't want Trent's help. He wants to know what he can do to support her, but when a secret from his past surfaces, will their relationship survive?

I really enjoy Jennifer Snow's books, but the non-communication trope is the one that really frustrates me. Both Whitney and Trent are flawed characters which makes them likable as they struggle to move forward together. I loved how patient Trent was with Whitney, especially when he knows she is keeping something from him. As Trent tries to run his own business, he makes sacrifices for Whitney and her mother. As Whitney's health starts to deteriorate, she has no choice but to finally come clean. The storyline of the young lady working for Trent and her family adds another dimension to the story that I liked, but did figure out. Overall, this is a story of romance, honesty, family, health issues and love. I enjoyed it and would have given it a higher rating if not for the secret keeping issues.

I have been a fan of the author for some time and have enjoyed this series so I was glad to escape back into this Hallmark-esqe Blue Moon Bay.
Whitney and Trent have been together for seven years now. And he is ready to take their relationship to the next step and get married. Whitney says she is, but she is so busy at work that she doesn’t do any wedding planning at all which frustrates Trent because he thinks she’s just stalling, but the truth is Whitney is hiding a secret illness from him and she’s afraid that once he finds out he won’t want to marry her anymore. But the stress of her job and keeping the secret is aggravating the illness so she’s not going to be able hide it much longer. On top of that, her mother is in a care home and Whitney is struggling with paying for it and making enough time to spend with her. She’s juggling too many balls and it’s all about to come crashing down. Trent is the sweetest, most caring guy you could ever ask for and when Whitney forgets his birthday he doesn’t even flinch! That would be a tough one for me! He hires a single mom to work in his bar and he becomes a mentor to her boys. There’s a lot going on, and a lot of drama. Much more than the other books in the series. And you have to keep up with the “then” and “now” chapters or you’ll mix up what’s happening. But once again, it was a case of communication and being a grown up and facing things-if you can’t talk to someone you’ve been with for seven years, then that’s not someone you should be with. You won’t get your HEA if you don’t. But im always a sucker for small town romance.

A Lot Like Forever is a good, quick read with characters that have flawed...so in other words, they are actually human. I felt like I got to know both Whitney and Trent, although there was a least one surprise I did not see coming right away. Definitely an enjoyable read, with good solid character development. Critics may feel that they could have solved everything right away with better communication...but the truth is, in real life most problems can also be resolved with better communication. I like the love that Whitney and Trent have for each other and how they interact, even with communication issues.

I definitely enjoyed the book, the two timelines work well for me as a reader. I hope you will enjoy A Lot Like Forever as much as I did!

Epic Angst Filled Romance. This is one of those more divisive romances where you're either going to see it as truly epic and one of the best ever for just everything that the couple has to overcome... or you're going to hate it because most of the issues could have been resolved in about two seconds if one or both halves of the couple had simply let go of their pride for a few minutes and had an open and vulnerable conversation with their partner. Obviously, I learn more towards the former than the latter. I also really appreciated the flashbacks to "then", when the couple first began dating through when they first got engaged. This is where the real romance of the story was, particularly as they were both being so stubborn and angsty in the current timeline, and it worked quite well with most chapters ending in this time period before coming back to the current timeline to start the next chapter. Even the ending grand gesture was excellent and called back to a part of both then and current, with a dose of solving a major issue between the couple thrown in. Overall an excellent book and very much recommended.

This book had much potential; unfortunately, it was not well executed in my opinion. The writing was more telling instead of showing and the flashbacks between “then” and “now” did not work in this instance.

I felt extremely frustrated with these characters because they never talked to each other about meaningful things and they kept huge secrets from each other. The characters are supposed to be deeply in love and have been together for a long time. Without spoiling anything, there are some plot points that either didn’t work for the storyline, we’re not fully researched/fleshed out, and/or we’re not conclusive by the end of the book.

I thought the intimacy scenes were ok, but nothing exciting. Trent was a sweetheart with endless patience but had me shaking my head several times. One plot point involving was kind of hinted at, but ultimately didn’t quite make sense for the characters. I was either bored, annoyed, or unenthused for 95% of the book. The ending was meh and not what I would have chosen as the outcome.

I am not a fan of the trope of sacrificing the relationship with the love of one's life to protect them from something. Lying by omission or out right lies instead of an honest conversation always leads to heartache for all parties. So I have a very hard time relating to Whitney, an adopted child with the need to be independent and in charge of her life. Seven years together and engaged for three, Trent just wants to get married and start having babies. He is every woman's dream, but Whitney keeps delaying making decisions, made worse after she found out that she has an inherited disease. She is scared to tell Trent or her boss, afraid of loosing Trent and her job. But I found her indecision tedious after a while. Too many secrets.

A Lot Like Forever is such an emotional read. I loved this one so much. Your heart goes out to Whitney from the very start as she faces the challenging road ahead. You feel how torn she is with how to handle her illness and juggling her friendships, relationship and work life. Trent is lovely. You can feel how much he loves Whitney and tries everything he can to hold onto that love. There are a few surprises along the way that make you question is love is this love strong enough survive. This is such an emotional ride that will own you heart and soul. This is such a beautiful moving read that you will not be able to put down. I adore everything about Whitney and Trent. I could not get enough of this one. You need to one click this one and go on this journey with Whitney and Trent today.

A Lot Like Forever certainly has all the feels, it’s emotional, it’s angsty and it’s full of love……
Whitney is struggling, working on how to handle her illness while dealing with her friendships and her work load. Trent has been asking her to set a date for their wedding because he wants to take their seven year relationship one step further but as she makes excuse he starts to feel like this is a one side relationship and he doesn’t know what to do to make it right…..
So what does the future hold for Whitney and Trent, one click to find out.
I love small town romances so this book was always going to be on my radar, it’s an emerald with wonderful characters, it’s well written and fast paced and I can’t wait to see where we are taken next by Ms Snow.

I really enjoyed this story! I love Trent and how he just absolutely adored Whitney and would move mountains to make her happy. Whitney was a force to be reckoned with especially when it came to work. The girl loved her job just as much as she loved Trent. I understand why she kept her "secret" but at the same time wish she would have communicated sooner. I love how her friends were by her side and helped her through everything and so happy that Whitney and Trent got there happy ending. This can be read as a stand-alone and definitely recommend picking it up.

I like Jennifer Snow’s novels. I like the town of Blue Moon Bay and its residents. I had a couple of issues with the main characters in A Lot Like Forever. First, I totally disagreed with the secret Whitney keeps from Trent. She makes a lousy decision, thinking she’s giving him a break when, in my opinion, she should ,have been upfront with him much much sooner.
Trent makes a huge decision in the book and tells Whitney he’s executing it, leaving her about a nanosecond to decide.
There are major life changes in this book that need to be dealt with thoroughly and not a quick ok let’s do it.
Maybe I’m overthinking it but actually the two are meant for each other in the way they don’t communicate.
Thanks to Entangled and NetGalley for the early read.

This is a sweet romance story. The story is told in the now and the then from the point of view of the two main characters. Whitney and Trent is a couple that have been dating for several years. The story follows the hills and valleys of their relationship. The plot develops organically with a few surprises. There are great friendships and close knit family relationships. It is a story with a happily ever after that will not disappoint.

I really enjoyed A Lot Like Christmas and was looking forward to the 3rd book of this series. This book did not work for me, the whole story is about lack of communication. I was so annoyed with Whitney and being so secretive. For a couple that is so in love, they drove me nuts. I wanted to DNF the story but was curious what her big secret was. Once I found out, I was even more annoyed. It is totally something that she should have shared with Trent.

I really have mixed feelings for this book - I adored the first two books. They were cute yet romantic enough to where you could envision them as Hallmark movies. However, this third book was just too much drama; too much angst; and a little too dark.

Whitney (the 3rd friend in the series that has been engaged to Trent for forever) is under a lot of stress - Trent keeps pressuring her to pick a date for the wedding, pick wedding colors, or even pick a wedding dress - he just wants to get married and start having a large family. She is also under a lot of stress from her never ending job - it seems no matter how many hours each day she works, she just can't get enough done. Her boss (the mayor) recognizes that so she hires her own son as Whitney's assistant. But this only makes Whitney work harder as she assumes the mayor really wants her son to take Whitney's place. Then she is also stressed from her aging mom living in a retirement home with rapidly declining health. The financial burden for her mom's car weighs on her heavily. all this with a medical issue and Whitney is headed towards disaster.

But this is no reason for Whitney to act like a clueless ditz. She forgets Trent's birthday; she stands him up for dinners; she basically shows him no attention. After being with the man for seven years, I'd be walking away from her if I were him.

Trent is the nicest guy ever. He always thinks of others and he never gets mad at Whitney for her overcommitment issues at work (not sure how as I know I'd be furious long before he ever got upset). He hired a single mom to run the restaurant at his bar and he started to coach her two kids in football. There was a time I really wanted Trent to get together with her until her secret came out in the end and then I wished she had just never been a part of this story.

There's some drama in this story - more than in the first two books of the series. I also wasn't a fan of alternating scenes going back and forth between "now" and "then" (usually when they first started dating). Yes, it helped to show how much Whitney did love Trent back in the day, but it still didn't get her a free ticket to act the way she did in my book. Trent deserves better - I'm Team Trent all the way.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. The opinions stated above are mine without biases.

This is compelling and well written but oy vey the angst. Whitney Carlisle and Trent Connolly are engaged and have been together for seven years. Trent owns a couple of bars and wants to continue to expand his business. He loves Whitney and can’t understand why she’s hesitant to start planning the wedding. Whitney has the weight of the world on her shoulders. She is marketing director for the town of Blue Moon Bay and loves her job. She’s has a new assistant who is better educated and she thinks he wants her job. She also has a mother in a care center who is dependent upon her. Besides being overworked and stressed she is facing medical issues of her own. She loves Trent but everything is overwhelming.

Sometimes with dramatic books I may skim to move things along. But not this one, I read every word. Trent is a yummy, loving cinnamon roll of a partner. Whitney is carrying big burdens but she makes it worse for herself by not talking to her friends or being honest with Trent. My daughter calls these types of books tragedy porn with just one thing after another. Yet I kept rooting for them.

I did not like the ending. I felt it was rushed and that the author wanted to finish things up and give a potential HEA. I thought Trent’s grand gesture was wildly out of place. She is barely out of the hospital, they haven’t had a conversation and he’s forcing her to choose him and his future parenting plan without a discussion. I wouldn’t have minded if he’d suggested it as a future option but saying he was doing it regardless was too much. Also I felt it ignored the elephant in the room of what happens with Angel’s son and how would he feel about it. Even with all the angst I was in the four star range but the ending lowered it for me. I also didn’t love the then/now format of the story either.

This is the third in the Blue Moon Bay series. The author says each is a stand alone but both the main couples from the previous books appear in this one. Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks NetGalley for this ARC.

This is the third novel in Jennifer Snow’s new Blue Moon Bay series and the third I have read from this author. A Lot Like Forever is the third and I believe final installment in this lovely series. This story is the rediscovering of love within a relationship and tells the story of Whitney and Trent who have been key characters in the first two books. The premise of this story is a little different given that the two main characters of this story have been in a relationship for several years and are even already engaged. Whitney is a workaholic who prioritizes her work above all else who is also still recovering from a traumatic accident with a secret that could devastate her relationship. Trent is her fiance who runs the local bar that he plans to expand to support the family he is desperate to have,

Like the previous books the characters felt real and the dialogue was fun. As usual the story was well written.

Things I liked.
- Seeing the friendships be showcased when Whitney was unwell.
- Sarah and Jess mini catch ups to see how they were going.

Things I didn't really like.
- flashbacks telling the story of Whitney and Trent's relationship evolution accounted for half the book. I am happy to read stories with flashbacks but for me it was too much of the book and I found it hard to always know whether we were "Now" or "Then".
- no real resolution over the Angel and Eddie issues.
- I would have really liked to see an epilogue a year or so in the future showcasing Whitney's health, their new family etc plus an update as to where Sarah and Jess where at.
- Lack of communication between Whitney and Trent was very frustrating to read when they already had the relationship etc.

Overall, a wonderful series and whilst I didn't love this story the first two in the series are books I will definitely come back to in the future.

A Four-star read that left me wondering at times. This is number three in the Blue Moon bay series, and maybe that’s why I didn’t always get this story as I didn’t realise that when I picked it up. But I felt this was just to deceptive, there was a lot of undercurrent and that just confused me so much, there was some great moments, but they were just overcome with the undercurrent. I do plan on reading the others and then popping back to read this to see if it made a difference, as I did like it overall.

From the outside looking in Whitney appears to be living the life she has always wanted but appearances can be deceiving. Personally and professionally she is struggling as her job has its challenges and she is engaged to a man she loves however she has a secret that she is hesitant to share as it will either bring them closer or tear them apart.

Trent and Whitney have been together for seven years however there appears to be a distance between them that has him wondering if the plans he is making for their future is all one sided. Status quo is no longer an option he is determined to show her that she can trust him with anything and that she can count on him to be there for her not only for now but forever.

The biggest challenge that Trent and Whitney face is being upfront with each other as how you face challenges as a couple is what makes your relationship and your love stronger.

Each book in the Blue Moon Bay series is a stand alone but this one wraps up the three friends' stories nicely. This particular book focuses on Whitney & Trent. We go back & forth between the beginning of their relationship to the current time seven years later. They are engaged but Whitney refuses to set a date. She's hiding that her health is failing & Trent has some things going on as well. Read this story to see if they work through it & what has happened with Sarah & Jess.

Fundamentally, there was nothing wrong with this book, and I’ve enjoyed this author’s previous books, but this is not my kind of story and I wouldn’t consider this book a romance. The whole thing centred on a couple being pulled apart rather than together with a happily ever after, and the secrets/non-communication between a couple that’d been together for seven years was ridiculous.

I received an ARC of, A Lot Like Forever, by Jennifer Snow. I did not care for this book at all. Too many secrets and lies, to be a love story.

I was so looking forward to reading A Lot Like Forever. I've been really enjoying this series and the characters within it. I love the friendship between the three heroines in this series. Time and distance haven't had any effect on their friendship. Even when they weren't all living in the same town they stayed friends.

It's one of the reasons I have been liking this series. Really enjoyed books one and two and I don't know what happened with Whitney's story. For me, it went off the rails of a romance. It's more women's fiction with touches of romance. I understand the author needs to write the story as she sees it in her head but I kinda wish I had a warning.

First off this story starts with Whitney and Trent already being in a relationship. They've been together for a very long time yet aren't married yet. For me, Trent is very loving and likable in the story but Whitney comes off as closed off. She has a secret that she's keeping from everyone. Once you find out what it is you have to wonder why she didn't talk to Trent about it. Her reasonings sounded silly to me. Now I know that people often shoot themselves in the foot when it comes to being afraid to deal with life change things so I did give her somewhat of a break.

Most of the story happens in the present and past. You flip so much between the two time periods that there is no real focus on their romance. In fact, I didn't even feel anything coming from her, just Trent. Because of how much I liked Trent I kept going with the story. Now don't get me wrong I like Whitney too I just didn't care for any of her choices.

Even the ending felt like Trent doing everything he could for Whitney and her just taking it. Now I know it sounds like I totally hated this story but I didn't there is stuff in here that I enjoyed. I just felt that this story is more about Whitney and what's going on in her life and Trent is a side note. And what does happen in his life is like a cliche. Not totally enjoying this story won't stop me from reading other books by this author. I think this is the story she had to tell and unfortunately, it didn't totally work for me.

Novels set in small towns hold great appeal to me as I grew up in a small city. Jennifer Snow's A Lot Like Forever is the third book in her Blue Moon Bay series, and after reading it, I want to go back and read the first two books, A Lot Like Love and A Lot Like Christmas.

Whitney is the hardworking head of tourism marketing for Blue Moon Bay. She has helped many small business owners, including Trent, who owns two bars in the town. Trent and Whitney have been together for seven years and are engaged to be married.

Trent is eager to make wedding plans, but Whitney keeps putting him off. Her mother has Alzheimer's and lives in an adult facility. She is not doing well. Whitney's job is an all-consuming one, and when the mayor's son is appointed as her assistant, she fears that he will take her job.

There's something else that is bothering Whitney, something she is hiding from Trent and her best friends. Trent doesn't understand why Whitney has been so distracted. He loves her, is kind and considerate to her mother, and his family adores Whitney.

Every time Trent brings up the fact that she works too hard, it pushes Whitney's buttons. All he wants is for them to get married and start a family, but every time he brings the future up, Whitney changes the subject. As a couple they seem to moving further apart.

Whitney is an independent, proud, strong woman, but as Trent says, sometimes those qualities work against her. He loves her and wants her to be able to lean on him.

Trent is kind to everyone, including Angel, the divorced mom of two teenage sons, who works in his bar. He takes her two sons under his wing, putting them on his football team and finding them work with his friend's construction company. Whitney fears he may turn to Angel for comfort.

I think many women may relate to Whitney's work situation. She needs her job and it consumes her, sometimes to the point that she neglects Trent and her friends. I also think people may relate to Whitney's reluctance to be honest with Trent. As someone who worked in marketing, I found Whitney's job interesting.

Jennifer Snow also does a wonderful job with Whitney's mom's Alzheimer's. The many families who have to deal with this horrible disease will appreciate the compassion with which the author writes about dealing with a loved one who has it.

Thanks to TLC Tours for putting me on Jennifer Snow's tour. The rest of her tour stops are here:
