First Bride to Fall by Ginny Baird Contemporary romance. To save their parents home and business and avoid a prearranged marriage contract, the Delaney sisters make a bet to be engaged by October 1st. Nell has had a long time crush on Grant and this is the exact push she needs to talk to him and maybe convince him to go on a date with her.
Adorable and sweet, Delaney and Grant are immediately attracted and charmed with the other. At least until Grant thinks he’s being conned. I really liked his friend trying to warn him it was the wrong direction for him to take and that Grant felt guilty in the antics he pulled. I agree it would have been better to just talk it out but then we wouldn’t have had the book. Bumps and twists of course, with wonderful resolution in the end with heartwarming epilogue.
🎧 I listened to an audiobook version narrated by Rachel Leblang. The performance was supremely well done. At times I really thought there were two narrators for male and female. But no, it was all just the one person. Great voice variations in cadence and emotions and timing. Fully enjoyed this. I did listen to this at a speed of 1.3 which I felt was the best for matching a conversation.
I received a copy of this from NetGalley and RB Media.
The Family Coffee Shop is in financial trouble. Nell and her sisters make a pact that whoever doesn't find love and engaged in 30 days will marry the son of a man who year back, swindled their Father and can help them out of their financial difficulties. Nell has always loved Grant and decides to take matters into her own hands and heart. They end up at a Cabin after a failed hiking trip.
This book really made me think of the Bride Quartet series, although a bit similar still very unique on its own. First Bride to Fall is a really fun and quick read. We get a really good look into Grant and Nell's characters. The plot pretty much played out like it should have. The narration was good with nice voice changes. I was really hoping for a quick look into the whole Aidan situation but hopefully a series is in the making to curb our curiosity.
Thank you Netgalley and Tantor Audio for the opportunity to review this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
First Bride to Fall by Ginny Baird is a hilarious rom com! Nell had me in stitches dressing up for her outdoor debut to win over this unsuspecting groom to be.... Once he finds out, all hell breaks loose and the games really begin to heat up!
Fast paced with good flow, the writing is enjoyable with surprising depth. First Bride to Fall is the first in a new series by Ginny Baird- for future reference, the series is called Majestic Maine and this is book one.
Thank you to NetGalley, Entangled Publishing, LLC and author Ginny Baird for this digital copy for me to read and enjoy. As always, my opinions are my own and my reviews are voluntary!
When Nell and her sisters must choose who is to enter a marriage-of-convenience, they make a bet - whoever cannot find love by the end of the month will be the one to wed.
I don't read much contemporary romance, but I picked up this book because I was excited for the hijinks that the blurb promised. I was ended up only partly sold on romance and hijinks alike.
I thought the story was well-written, and the author managed to sell a pretty outlandish premise. I was interested in how the main character, Nell, having always taken the hard knocks to shield her sisters, was determined to not take this one lying down. It made for an interesting dynamic between her and Grant, especially when he began trying to chase her off.
However, the humor of Operation Dump Me didn't really work for me, which was a shame as it was this aspect of the story that had really interested me. I also thought the story was paced very oddly, as about fifty percent was just Grant and Nell spending an endless day together in which they were meant to fall in love. This section went on for far too long, perhaps to cement their bond, and ended up boring me.
My ARC of this book was an audiobook which was narrated by Rachel Leblang. I thought she did a good job portraying Nell's sweetness and tough spine, though I didn't really like her voices for Charlotte and Misty.
Disclaimer: I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley. This is my honest and voluntary review.
I was so pumped up after reading the blurb of this book and the plot did not disappoint! It was kind of cliche, cheesy but cute nonetheless. A group of three sisters have placed a bet to get engaged or married within a 30 day time limit and whoever remains single will marry their father's rival's son to save their buisness and get their rightful share. Nell the oldest of them knows exactly who she wants and it's Grant Williams- they guy she has always admired from afar. Everything is going according to plan but what happens when Grant finds out about the bet and thinks that Nell is just trying to trap him? Who will be the first one to call whatever's going on between them off? Overall, the plot was really interesting and enjoyable but the insta love between Grant & Nell made it difficult to feel their connection in the first few chapters. Everything else was super fun and I can't wait to read the next books in the series and find out who is going to be entangled in the marriage of convenience now? Charlotte or Misty?
Thank you Netgalley & Entangled publishing for providing me the ARC copy of this book
If you enjoy Hallmark movies, you're going to love this book. It's a romance about a girl trying to get a long time crush to fall in love with her even though they have totally opposite views of life. Just as the romance slowly begins, he hears gossip in town and begins to question her feelings toward him. He decides that he needs to put an end to the growing feelings that they have for each other but he wants her to be the one to end their relationship. His plan backfires and her plan begins to fall apart. Will they be able to find middle ground and create a new and better relationship despite their differences?
Nell and her two sisters work at the coffee shop owned by their parents. The shop is struggling and when the girls found out that their parents have put a second mortgage on the business, they know that they need to save the shop and their parents from bankruptcy. To right old wrongs, an old family friend who betrayed them in the past, has offered her son, Aiden, in marriage to one of the three sisters. The sisters are appalled but make an agreement that whichever one of them is not engaged to be married in 30 days, will have to marry Aiden.
Nell decides that now is the time to pursue Grant. She's had a crush on him since high school but only admired him from afar. To start her plan to get him to marry her, she signs up for a hike provided by his nature group. It's pretty apparent right from the start that she isn't an outdoorsy person and after a series of misadventures and sprained ankles, she ends up at his fishing cabin overnight. The sparks begin to fly but when he hears about the bet she has with her sisters, he's hurt and decides to make her think he's a real loser. Will she end up marrying Aiden or will she and Grant get their happily ever after?
I thought that this was a quick light fun romance but I did think that it was a bit unrealistic that two people could fall in love so quickly. If you can suspend your disbelief about instant love and just read it for the interplay between the two main characters, it will leave you with a smile on your face and looking forward to the next book in the series that features one of the other sisters.
Y’all, this was adorable! It’s a new author to me and it’s not my normal type of romance but I really enjoyed it. It was a fun, light romance that made me laugh. These two were hilarious and stubborn. I loved that this was mostly an outdoorsy type story with a sorta insta love. Again, the author did a great job with the fun in this story. I highly recommend it if you want a fun, sweet and clean romance. I chose to listen to this book on audio and the narrator was Rachel Leblang and she was awesome. A great fit for this book. Thanks Tantor Audio via NetGalley.
3.5 Making It All Work Stars * * * 1/2 Spoiler Free-A Quick Review Oh, the craziness when two mothers put their heads together and plan a way for both families to survive a slow business.
One Mother has a son and the other Mother has three daughters. Instead of doing rock, paper scissors, they bet a thirty-day challenge as to who will be the last one needing to get married...the last one single has to marry the son.
This brings us to Nell, the oldest, and her long-standing crush, Grant Williams. She has been interested forever but never acted on it. He is all outdoorsy and she is the spa.
Nell decides to pursue him, gets her camping look on and they start to have some major chemistry. The only hiccup comes when Grant becomes aware of the "bride bet" and it raises his hackles.
Now he decides he is going to push Nell to dump him so he isn't the one to blame.
This sweet romance story is the perfect read or rather listen since I chose the audio book version! The narrators did an outstanding job of bringing the wonderful characters to life and made the plot even more fun! Lots of misunderstandings and miscommunications wound throughout witty dialogue and fun antics makes these characters the ones that you want to read about. I am thrilled to realize that this is the first of the series so I'll get to follow the characters even further as the sisters race to see who can fall in love first leaving the last one standing the choice for an arranged marriage to save the family business! I can't wait to see what happens in the next book and highly recommend that you select this as your next listen so you can join the fun too!
Thanks to Netgalley and Tantor Audio for the chance to listen to this book and express my opinions about it!
First Bride to Fall is an enjoyable, opposites attract romance novel from author Ginny Baird.
The banter and chemistry between shy Nell and adventure guide grant was a joy to read! They were very different but fit so well together, it was really sweet to watch them fall for each other.
The misunderstandings/marriage bet thing seemed a bit overdone, and it was frustrating at times, but overall this is a fun and sweet romance novel.
First Bride to Fall is the first standalone in a series.
If you enjoyed that episode 'He doesn't know I know he knows I know he knows' on FRIENDS then your going to like this book. And the whole camping conversation had me in stitches.
I got this off Netgalley, trying something new.. This isn't really my type of book. It was very sweet and I think it will be a new series, But I won't read the next one Ginny Baird knows how to write a VERY formulaic clean romance, but there is nothing wrong with that. Yes, I think Hallmark should make these into a series or something.
You know that when you pick up a book by Ginny Baird that it will be a really good one. This does not disappoint you. I loved it from the beginning.
Wit their shop in jeopardy the Mothers decide that they will marry one of their daughters to the other ones son so they can keep the shop in the family. One is doing really well financially and the other family are not doing as well. They are having money problems.
Of the three daughters they aren't sure who is going to get married to the well off son. So between them they started a bet. Whoever is the last to get engaged in the next 30 days has to marry him.
Loved the story line and the characters. I found myself laughing out loud in spots and almost ready to cry in some.
3.5/5 stars First Bride to Fall is a clean, contemporary romance that will grab your attention from the beginning. It is a quick read, filled with heartwarming moments and humor.
While the story sounds like it will be predictable, and in places, it is, there were several little twists toward the middle that kept the story going.
Nell was described as shy but portrayed herself as anything but in her quest to win Grant's heart. I wasn't a fan of her exaggerations nor withholding the complete truth to Grant. Grant wasn't perfect either, with the way he handled the information he learned about Nell.
This is an "insta" love story with lots of miscommunication (a pet peeve of mine) and several instances where you will need to remind yourself you are reading a fiction book.
Overall, I enjoyed this one and look forward to more in this series!
Thank you to Net Galley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
Wholesome contemporary romance. I’m assuming this is a beginning of a new series. The set up is cute. Three sisters agree the sister that isn’t engaged to be married in a month will accept a marriage of convenience that will correct a past swindling and save the family business. (It makes sense in the story.) The son doesn’t care which sister he marries. Nell has been pining for Grant Williams for years but never acted on it. Now is the time. She signs up for a nature hike he is leading. She is not properly outfitted and ends up with a twisted ankle making the two have to spend a night in his mountain cabin.
I thought we’d see the relationship develop for the month but instead first 30 percent of the book is 24 hours. The rest takes place over the next couple of days. He is attracted and asks her on a date but then he learns about the bet and decides to make her miserable at his cabin. I think for some people this will be very funny. It came off to me a cartoonish and unbelievable. His first attraction to her is because she is lying badly about common interests to get his attention. That doesn’t scream build a lasting relationship to me. And for a woman who does the family business accounting and owns her own house she comes off as very stupid. Because of the timeframe everything feels rushed and shallow.
It is a clean, easy, quick read. I assume there will be sequels featuring the two sisters. I will look for them but hope for a little more depth to the characters and stories. Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing LLC for an eARC in exchange for an honest review. (2.5 stars)
I had some trouble with this one. FIRST BRIDE TO FALL follows Nell on her path to love. Nell's family owns a coffee shop that is in financial trouble, largely due to a cheating business partner years before. Now, there's a scheme to marry the son of the former partner couple for 5 years as a marriage of convenience and then split the profits. It has to take place within a month, so Nell and her sisters decide that whoever is not engaged by then will be the one to marry him. Nell decides that now is the time to make a move on the guy she has been crushing on since high school, but her overconfidence and lies makes it all backfire when he finds out about the agreement and decides to be horrible until she breaks up with him.
I liked the premise, but there were a lot of unexplained elements around why marriage was the answer and why the parents were cool with this plot. It was also kind of a huge plothole in the agreement about the marriage, because none of them were close to being engaged, and how were at least 2 of them supposed to get there in 30 days?! There was some suspension of belief there. Luckily, everything seemed to be going perfectly for Nell until it wasn't.
Nell was a bit of a stalker having made him birthday presents every year (though not having given them to him) and following up on him since high school. I was a bit troubled by this, as it seemed strange and not a great foundation for a relationship. This would have seemed way creepier in reverse, especially with the way she continues to lie to him as they are getting to know each other.
The plot thickens when he finds out and decides to make things miserable so she will break it off (and the reasons for this also require some suspension of belief, because I think people would take his side). The way this all goes down is pretty rough with a heavy dose of misogyny (but I guess because he is pretending it is supposed to be OK?). Things escalate when she acquiesces to all demands and surprises him by doing all the domestic tasks well (yay for her, I guess), all while healing from a bad sprain that he cared about before he hated her.
By the end, I was not sure if I liked either them with all their lies and his cruelty, but maybe that means they deserved each other. The ending resolution was also way too fast and did not include the necessary apologies they both deserved. It needed more oomph, especially after all the pain of those few days.
Overall, this was really just not for me. Please note that I received an eARC. All opinions are my own.
This is a cute contemporary romance by Ginny Baird. In the story, three sisters make a deal to save their parents’ business. The sister who isn’t engaged or married in one month will marry the son of the man who swindled their father. Nell, the oldest of the sisters, has her heart set on Grant Williams, who she has liked for a while. Their relationship faces some challenges, however, when Grant finds out about the bet. He determines to be the worst fiancée ever to get Nell to break up with him.
Nell and Grant’s romance is cute and sweet and filled with humorous antics. Great dialogue, fun and flirty banter, miscommunication, forced proximity, and charming characters make for an entertaining read. Thanks to Entangled Publishing for providing me with an advanced copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.
If nothing else, the author knows how to write a very formulaic clean romance, but there is nothing wrong with that. Yes, it has all the tropes, all the misunderstandings, and mixed signals, but it is like getting in a bath of warm water. Sometimes it is just the sort of thing you need. And in this case it was.
Cute first book in a series where each of three sisters has to be married or engaged in 30 days, or else they have to marry to save the company business. This is all the incentive that Nell needs to go after a man she has been mooning over for at least a decade, even to the point of knitting him presents every year that she never gives him. A little stocky? Yeah, but it works.
It is romance candy, and the heaviest we get is kissing, which is fine too. Sometimes you dont' need more than that.
Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.
Wow this was such a fantastic novel. I have to say I loved every second of it. It just had me hooked from the very start. I would definitely class this book as a brilliant page turner. I listened to the audiobook and just loved the narrator she really brought the book to life. She made it so gripping and created such a wonderful atmosphere with her wonderful voice. It is one of those very easy books to read and follow. With it lighthearted story and loveable characters. I adored the story line even though most romance novels are really predictable we still love them. It's just the way this story develops that really stands out. I also love the characters and how they developed. There was a fantastic sense of family and community love that really made be feel so good. I really do recommend this book to all those romance fans. This book would make an excellent feel good summer or beach read. So much praise goes out to the author and publishers for creating this stunning feel good storythat will brighten up you day. I am definitely looking forward to reading more from this very talented author.
The family is in financial trouble and their Coffee Shop could close at any time. The three sisters then make a pact (or a bet) who marries first to a deadline, to save the family from bankruptcy.
Nell Delaney already has the right candidate, after all, she's always had a crush on him, Grant Williams. There's just one big issue: Grant is a man who loves outdoor adventures, while Nell...well...let's say she stumbles more than she walks. Despite that, they seem to have perfect chemistry, and even the way she dislikes being outdoors doesn't bother him all that much. But then, he finds out about the sisters' bet, and that he's the target. To make her give up, he decides to be the worst bachelor possible. Who will win? A delicious rom-com. 4,5 stars
First of all, I loved that this was a nice, clean romance. It seems to be getting harder and harder to find those nowadays. Secondly, I found the premise of a modern day marriage of convenience very interesting. The time frame (30 days) for getting someone to marry one of the sisters when they wanted true love was too much of a stretch for me though. Nell was frustrating because her actions didn't line up with what everyone (including her) felt about her personality. But I enjoyed Grant and did like the witty banter between the two of them. The ending was a bit rushed, but it was an expected happily ever after.
Three sisters want to help save their parents' business. To do so, they must accept an offer to merge their business with an old partner foe. The catch is that one of the daughters needs to marry the son of the foe business. Daughter one devises a plan to catch her long-time crash in a race with her sisters to the altar. Her target catches on to what she is doing and they both try to make it so the other will break up first. Comparison would be "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Day" style story.
This story is sweet and funny. It has some quirky moments and characters. Nell and her sisters devise a plan to save their failing business and family home. She decides to finally go after the guy she has wanted since high school. Grant is an outdoor adventure guide. Their first adventure nearly ends in disaster but is the beginning of their relationship. The reader will enjoy the interesting trip that the story takes as the couple Works’s their way to their happily ever after.
No pressure, but either ell or one of her two sisters has to be in love within 30 days in order to save the family business. Nell sets her sights on Grant, Mr. Outdoorsman. It was funny because they are polar opposites and Nell doesn’t fare well in the great outdoor. I like the fake dating and trying to deceive everyone while just the opposite happens. It’s a cute, fast read for anyone looking for a lighthearted romance to escape into. Thanks to Entangled and NetGalley for the early read.
First Bride to Fall is a cute trope filled romance featuring three sisters Nell, Misty and Charlotte who learn from their mum that the family business is going through a tough time and in order to save it. She's struck a deal with an old friend and former business partner for one of the daughters to take place in a five-year marriage of convenience.
However, the three sisters come up with their own plan and make a bet which forces the loser to enter in to the marriage. But Nell is determined it won't be her as she's set her sights on Grant and has 30 days to convince him to fall in love and propose.
Yet, when Grant learns what Nell and her sisters have planned he decides not to say anything but get even in a different way. And so a battle of wills ensues to see who will crack first.
And with plenty of fun moments and a sprinkling of emotion this was an engaging and enjoyable read. I just didn't feel the chemistry or particularly like some of the characters which is why I've not rated it higher.
But it was certainly a well-written story and if you like your romance light-hearted and sex-free you should certainly check this story out.
**I was kindly provided with an ARC via Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review**
I’m not really sure how to feel about First Bride to Fall - I wanted to like it but it just was not my cup of tea. It read like a middle school-early high school romance but the characters were in their early thirties, the family dynamic was all over the place and the whole plot of the marriage of convenience felt very unbelievable (especially from the parents POV). It had some cute moments but overall wasn’t a hit for me.
Thank you NetGalley and Tantor Audio for my advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
A very cute, contemporary romance. There’s a rather silly, improbable set-up, but if you can get over that, this is a fun read/listen. We have three sisters who all work in some fashion for their family’s coffee shop. There was a problem in the past where their father got swindled in a business deal and now that other family wants to right the wrong somehow. The somehow? One of the girls should marry their son Aiden, even if it’s just a marriage of convenience. The only way to avoid being the one to do this is to find someone else to marry, and quickly.
Nell, the oldest, has had her eye on Grant for a long time. The problem is he’s a super-outdoorsy type and she is definitely NOT. Hilarity ensues.
The audiobook was narrated very nicely by Rachel Leblang. I was happy to find this available via Hoopla, in anticipation of reading the second book in the Majestic, Maine series, Second Bride Down, which is being published this fall.
This is a Hallmark-style small town romance about three sisters from a very close-knit family that are desperate to save the family business. Desperate enough, even, to consider a marriage of convenience with the son of the man who swindled them, who is hoping to ease his conscience. The sisters make a pact that the last one to remain unengaged at the end of 30 days will fall on the sword, so now it's every woman for herself!
Nell is the oldest and has always been the caretaker of the family. She's had a thing for Grant since high school, but was too timid to take action. Now that's she's on the clock, she decides to put her own happiness first and shoot her shot. All seems to go well...until he learns the real story. Then the games are on!
I liked the unique direction the story took. Instead of just getting mad, Grant and Nell both decide to get even. It makes for lots of funny banter and clever antics as they try to antagonize each other. This adds some nice zing to an otherwise fluffy and wholesome story. Pick this up for a sweet, soothing comfort read with some laughs!
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
With their family business in jeopardy Nell’s mother has decided that one of her three daughters will marry the son of the person who has put them in this position. Nell and her sisters decide that whichever of the three of them that doesn’t fall in love in the next month is the one who will do it and it is game on. Nell knows exactly who she wants and now she just needs to convince him.
Grant is surprised to see Nell join one of her tours as it doesn’t seem like something she would be interested in however all it would take is being stranded due to a minor accident for the sparks to fly. Everything was going so well until he found out what her true intentions were and now he is determined to show her just unsuitable he can be.
Misunderstandings, humorous and heartwarming moments as Nell is determined to claim her man while Grant is determined to lose the woman he believes only wants him for one reason. Let the chaos begin!
In First Bride to Fall, three sisters find out that one of them must have a marriage of convenience in order to save their family business. They make a bet that the last of them to secure an engagement will be the one to marry the rich billionaire, Aiden. Nell knows the perfect person to pursue.
This one was a cute romance. Nell has been in love with Grant forever. So for her, falling for Grant was easy. For Grant, it was very fast for me. They do only have 30 days, but it was still insta-love. There is a lot of miscommunication in this one. A lot could have been soled with one conversation. But, it did lead to some really funny scenes where they basically both know what is going on, but neither will admit it. I did find myself laughing a lot. I loved the ending. It was very sweet. I highly recommend this one.
