Never Get Their Coffee: Empowering Fearless Leadership

Rate this book
For fans of Rachel Hollis and Rachel Rodgers, here’s a fast read that is sure to inspire the unapologetic, shame-free embrace of not playing small in life.

Ladies, leadership, and legacy!

Like gravity, sowing and reaping is a natural law of life—you simply reap what you sow. It naturally plays and pays out, until it DOESN’T.

Time and again, history has shown that until society learns and positively changes from the past with its deeply-rooted thought patterns and norms, we are condemned to repeat its many trappings, stereotypes, and shortcomings.

Never Get Their Coffee is a call to action and underscores the glass ceiling disparities of gender equity in the marketplace. However, its focus fixates on helping shape societal strides in fueling fearless leadership, and its mission is in inspiring faith and tenacity of the human spirit to dream a dream, sow a thought, reap an action...a habit...a character...and ultimately to discover one’s destiny.

Woods’ challenge for all her readers is that death is no respecter of persons—stop apologizing for success, aim high, dream deeply, and start living your divine calling. Become doers of destiny.

I am not sure you need the subtitle. In fact I think the subtitle is wrong. It should be "advice for your career as a female". The title is perfect and so is the messaging throughout this short but impactful book.

Empowering, level-headed approach to leadership

Never Get Their Coffee: Empowering Fearless Leadership is a guide by Lakisha Ann Woods to recognizing the unspoken expectations and delegations around you and making sure that you get an equal share of the say, work, and opportunities. I’ve been a teacher for a while, traveling around different schools. This had led to countless introductions and meetings, and I’ll tell you some things I’ve noticed:
I’ve never seen a man bring in coffee or tea for a meeting or guest.
It’s always a woman taking notes, even if their job isn’t necessarily secretary or the like.
Countless times, I’ve been told to do something that a male co-worker was asked to do in the same breath. Meanwhile, my timing and whereabouts are much more scrutinized as well.
Woods’ advice is relevant and well-written. Stop apologizing! The first time I simply said no to a request, when there were no repercussions to me doing so on the other side, I was stared at as if I were crazy. Also, bias against women is real! Stop beating each other up—where does anyone get with that?
I like that Woods adds personal input into each scenario, and I found myself connecting with her, as I have a similar background and family. It was also interesting to have more background on hot phrases such as MeToo and Year of the Woman. I definitely recommend this empowering read!

Lakisha Ann Woods got tired of the perception of the overall society about women and how we are supposed to act/work in a company or business corporation. In this book, "Never Get Their Coffee: Empowering Fearless Leadership", she decided to expose and inform about female leadership and how one can achieve personal goals. Providing various research, statistics and her personal experience, this book confronts why women have to endure such a hard environment. Woods gives tips and ideas on how to care for yourself inside and outside of the workplace. A great way to learn how to overcome difficulties. I really appreciated this book. I had such awful experiences at my former workplace that when I saw this book, I didn't hesitate to get it. Woods writing is phenomenal and I was able to understand everything to perfection and to relate to a few things, too. I feel much more confident now about how to act when challenges arrive and I am more than clear that my voice is going to be heard from now on. This book is a must for every female struggling with confidence and action at their work.

Never Get Their Coffee: Empowering Fearless Leadership by Lakisha Ann Woods is an empowering guide book for women to excel and take charge in their work. The author talks about how important is for women to know that they are capable of achieving whatever goals they set out for in a leadership. Women are highly qualified and highly trained and yet they face limited opportunities for a leadership role, the author guides us through her experiences on how to break the barriers and achieve their self-worth. Exceptional motivational advice for women to take beyond stereotypical offer.

The author has presented some eye-opening statistics to take note and learn from past mistakes. How convenient it has become to undermine the potential of a woman and to downgrade her capabilities but the author offers revitalizing guidance to overcome such inequality. The realities of women in business and politics and how they are perceived is dealt in detailed. I encourage everyone to refer this book to women in their lives for them to learn an inspirational guide.

What Do You Think of Your Boss Being a Woman?
Now, I've never been a pro-feminist. More or less, I've always sat on the fence with the matter. Now, however, reading this book gave me a whole new perspective on it, and dare I say, it is a must-read for everyone. I also realized my shortcomings. Little, unconscious habits inhibit women from reaching far. Habits that are indeed as demeaning as getting my coffee for me, even when they’re on the same professional level as I am, or higher.
I also love how you get to experience history in a way. The several examples given in this book tell the story of women in the past. For someone who loves reading history, it was a big plus for me. I generally get disinterested when everything looks too fictitious to be true, or just a person’s propaganda. But, seeing how these things really happened/is happening kept me engaged, and had me enlightened in the end.
Dealing with the world’s view of women in leadership positions is a cause we all should join. It's a wake-up call, and one everyone should experience, well done Lakisha!

Some Notes:
• Refrain from unnecessary apology.
• Use fashion as your tool rather than being a victim of it.
• Presence isn't just about your appearance. It is your mental attitude.
• Avoid using Lazy Words
o You know
o Avoid space fillers
• Like
• Sorry
• Uh
• You know
• I guess
• Trigger
o Can you do me a favor? Assess what people need before making yourself available
• Sure vs Well it depends on what you need
o Hey, do you have a second?
• Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.
• I raise up my voice not so I can shout, but for those without a voice can be heard. We cannot succeed if half of us are held back. - Malala Yousafzai
• When facing biases, don't get mad, get motivated (not even): Try to lead a paradigm shift.
• Recognize the intention behind a person's comment before responding.
• Aim high but set a deadline that is realistic that accounts for errors or events that are out of your control.

eye opening and empowering

An eye-opening book by Lakisha Ann Woods. Often, women are stereotyped as the help in the office and this book gave examples of office responsibilities that often fall into the one wearing the skirt in the office. At first, I thought it would teach me how to be stubborn and say NO to some tedious chores in the workplace but no, the author wrote a detailed description or a very valid argument, reasoning why we can say no and should say no to them. This book screams empowerment and organization so loud that I saw myself nodding and agreeing to its reasonings. “Yeah , that is right!” I often hear myself saying that throughout my reading. I recommend this book to everyone who is starting a leadership role in the workplace but most especially the women. Do not apologize for your success, you deserve it!

Female leadership!

I think it is the right book for everyone who is searching for a story about female empowerment. Lakisha Ann Woods is a successful businesswoman and the author of Never Get Their Coffee: Empowering Fearless Leadership. In this book, she analyzes, through her experiences and those of others, the way of women to success and all problems, obstacles and stigmas that they must face.
I like the view of the author. I think she encourages other women to dare to seek success, without apologizing for it. In my opinion, all young women must read it because we can learn a lot from other people's experiences. Also, the author includes good data of investigation and statistics; I would have liked to read a little more about that. I recommend it; it's really interesting and motivating!

Interesting and insightful to say the least.

With all I have lived so far, being a retired woman and having worked in many companies, I believe this read would have been really useful for me back then.

I feel women nowadays are luckier because they have more rights, they can choose better and aren’t afraid as I was when I was younger. Reading this book was eye opening for sure. Knowing when to say NO, when to refuse or react when someone doesn’t treat us as we need is very important.

I liked how the author managed this topic because it is not that we should do something crazy to make ourselves notice, no… We should know what our value is and that is something that now I think because I read this book.

Well written and with topics I liked, this is a book that I will recommend reading.

The glass ceiling of the employment world is one that many women have written about breaking. Lakisha Ann Woods’s Never Get Their Coffee: Empowering Fearless Leadership is a book which covers this same topic, but from a new and refreshing angle.
Based on her own personal experiences as a woman of color in the workplace, Woods details the challenges she faced and the techniques she used to achieve success.
I appreciated the suggestions made especially those of taking time for wellness and self-care, but at times the book seemed to be a little bit repetitive.
Overall a good read, Never Get Their Coffee is an interesting and fresh outlook on an age-old problem and one that everyone can take away something from.

A call to Action

This book of empowerment, that shows us women (and men) what we go through, how we are conditioned to behave and what we should want; is a call to action for both the current and the next generation. We need to stop feeling sorry for wanting the same things men and the men need to know that the well meaning advice is too often detrimental to women and young girls.
I found so much of myself in this book. I have such "traditional" wants and I can recognize how anything out of those wants were deemed not suitable. I have my own stories of trying for the non traditional and getting pushed back in my old lane. This was an eye opener and it will be helpful to so many people.

As women, we know and appreciate that we are starting to fulfill more important roles in society every day, however, we still feel we are less than men sometimes; we apologize for everything as if we do not know how to do it.
Author Woods revisits this theme of the role of females when in leadership at the workplace and invites us to follow an array of strategies that would help up empower us. I totally trust these strategies since they are taken from her very own experience and the fact that someone has already tried them out, makes it easier for us to also put some of them into practice.
This book would open a lot of eyes. Hey, women out there, stop apologizing for everything and set to read this narrative!

“Never Get Their Coffee” by author Lakisha Ann Woods delves with the role of female leadership in the workplace nowadays. Along the chapters, she wonderfully weaves her own experience, useful strategies and many examples from a variety of women leaders, with the final aim of assisting women to recognize their own internal power and maximize their female leaderships.

But she also intends to empower communication, coordination and compromise at work, as well as the importance of wellness and self-care habits in personal life.

All in all, this is a comprehensive book about leadership, with wise and enlightening advice. I truly enjoyed it and I strongly recommend it to all women.

Empowering for sure!

“Never Get Their Coffee: Empowering Fearless Leadership” by Lakisha Ann Woods is a book that made me think a lot about things I haven’t paid attention to before.
Who recognizes the power of women? Well… that’s a question that not many can answer. It is very important to value ourselves and understand our power and the author of this book points that out.

It is not very long and it reads fast. I really liked this book for many reasons. I would read this again in the future because it was thought provoking and mind changing as well. It is a totally recommended read!

An interesting view

This book is certainly empowering. Never Get Their Coffee: Empowering Fearless Leadership by Lakisha Ann Woods is a book that made me realize the potential I have and that I have to show it and let the rest know I have power too.

Recognition has always been very important for any human being and for me and all women too. I really enjoyed this reading because the author knows what she is talking about. I agree with her in most things; I felt understood while reading it.

I would definitely recommend this to every woman around me, family or friends. And, why not, to men too, so that they understand us a bit better.

We have long known that empowered women are more able to make decisions that benefit them and their families. More empowered people have the control to make decisions about their own freedom of movement and how to allocate resources.
“Never Get Their Coffee: Empowering Fearless Leadership” by Lakisha Ann Woods offers a wide variety of strategies to empower women leaders to step up and get their well-deserved seat at the table.
I think we need more books like this one, in which the emphasis is on women and the importance of their internal power is exposed to achieve everything we set out to do. I sincerely recommend this wonderful book.

A helping hand for women

“Never Get Their Coffee: Empowering Fearless Leadership” is a book that aims at showing the way to success without being left behind in the race.

This reader was written by Lakisha Ann Woods, a best-selling author that saw the path with her own eyes. The author writes from experience, and this is what makes this book reliable.

Woods addresses all women out there, but I will dare to recommend this reader for any who wants to climb the ladder of a successful career.

Although I found this book enriching, and empowering at the same time, there are some parts that felt like mundane, and for this reason I give this piece three stars.
