The Good Teacher

Rate this book
You should be safe in your own home.

Widowed doctor Grey is the best cardiologist in the area. When his past patients start dying, and it looks like murder, rumors swirl that the good doctor doesn't just save lives. People begin to think that he also takes them.

His daughter, Lilah, needs summer tutoring to keep up with her class, and having her math teacher drop by a few times a week is the perfect solution. But there's something strange about Mrs. Matthews.

She's too perfect and too willing to take on the role of Lilah's caregiver. And when she sets her sights on something, she always gets what she wants.

Be careful who you let in your house. You never know what they really want.

A solid nail-biter of a book. Emily Shiner has such an amazing way of jumping right into a story, bringing the reader alongside. And this had a very complex set of circumstances among all three of our main characters, keeping all plot points relevant and interesting. Grey is a doctor, raising his daughter, Lilah, after the loss of his wife, and someone has begun killing his old patients. An unexpected person comes to their rescue, supporting the fractured family and helping them thrive, but they have ulterior motives. And things slowly unravel, as the investigation puts Grey as the number one suspect. So there is a lot of suspense throughout and you keep wondering how this antagonist is accomplishing so much, while simultaneously caring for her own family and also Grey and Lilah. So that was a bit of an underdeveloped aspect of the book. Carol’s personal story needed some more clarification, which would have further deepened the entire revenge theme. Maybe even add some further complexities to her thoughts throughout, too. So not without some minor critiques, this was still a strong thriller that will be appreciated by all fans of the genre.

Needs A New Editor!

I can't say this novel was "gripping" but it was interesting enough. Lilah was a bit dull, both in personality and intelligence, but the contrasting war between Mrs. Carol Mathews and Dr. Grey Bennett was great. I won't give anything away, but man, what a battle of wills and wit. The ending was a bit lacking though.

This novel desperately needs a new editor, but otherwise, it was enjoyable.

This book had me questioning literally everyone 😭.
Lilah had me feeling so bad for her one minute and then completely confused the next.
(you'll see why 💀), but I honestly think that made the book even more entertaining. I kept changing my mind about who I trusted, and I was wrong... a lot. 😂 It was such an easy book to get through though because something was always happening, like I never found it boring! If you like thrillers that make you suspicious of everyone, definitely read this 😝

The Good Teacher was a fast but thrilling read. You know the antagonist from the getgo which is kind of unusual . I loved the relationship between Grey and Lilah and often was so frustrated how easily Carol ensnared herself into their lives. Like most of the reviews, the end was very abrupt but it wrapped up well! Looking forward to more by Shiner!

This book was good, not my favorite of Emily’s but still a very good book to read. I felt the ending was a bit rushed but I still enjoyed the storyline. I have a lot of questions that didn’t get answered, but, I still gave it a good 3.75 rating simply bc I love Emily and her mind is BRILLIANT

This book was a slow burn kind of book but that allowed you to rèally get to know the characters and the relationship between them. The book was told by multiple characters, therefore you know who the killer was the beginning. The story line reminded me of a lifetime movie! I loved the relationship between dad and daughter, however felt like the dad was a little scattered. The ending wrapped up the story well. This was an enjoyable and easy read.

Within the first four chapters, you slowly find one thing: a widowed teacher devoted to get revenge on the cardiologist that let her husband die. To do that, she had to get close to him by tutoring his daughter for the summer. Now that part got my attention. Most of the time we just hear about the teacher’s plan and constant need for revenge. Rather long and uneventful for me. I honestly thought it be better than this. Overall, this was a nice concept and an okay read, but I expected more.

Not worth it

Book was predictable from the start. After getting 65% of the way through, I started another book. I went back and skipped to the last three chapters, yep, predicted the exact ending. Not a fan.

Entertaining

This is a good novel to get from Kindle Unlimited, the plot moves along and then ends rather abruptly, but still worth reading. Nothing too heavy or requiring too much deep thought

Good, but...

Please fix typos. There are way to many for a published book. Even if its an ebook it should still go through editing.

Doctors Beware

A fast read. The title drew me in. The villain was definitely messed up in the mind as shown by her inner thoughts. Believable plot.

The Good Teacher by @authoremilyshiner is a fast-paced book that shows that you cannot trust those around you - even when they are in a position of authority.

I really enjoyed this book, and liked the idea that a teacher could hold such a grudge against someone. Carole abuses her position of power and the automatic trust that comes with being a teacher, to get back at a doctor she blames for her husband dying.

The story is intense and from the start you are drawn into this story of betrayal. There is an intense ending and the story is gripping from the start.

What happens if you're a leading heart surgeon whose former patients start dying? In this book, you get arrested despite not having any motive to kill these people who actually contributed to your fame.
What happens if you're a brilliant heart surgeon arrested for murder with a child at home? Before a trial date is even set you sign over guardianship of your child to her mathematics teacher who you also invite to live in your home and give her access to your accounts.
Fraught with grammatical errors this was in need of an editor. 3 stars.
