Michelle MacQueen is a USA Today bestselling author of love. Yes, love. Whether it be YA romance, NA romance, or fantasy romance (Under M. Lynn), she loves to make readers swoon.
The great loves of her life to this point are two tiny blond creatures who call her "aunt" and proclaim her books to be "boring books" for their lack of pictures. Yet, somehow, she still manages to love them more than chocolate.
When she's not sharing her inexhaustible wisdom with her niece and nephew, Michelle is usually lounging in her ridiculously large bean bag chair creating worlds and characters that remind her to smile every day - even when a feisty five-year-old is telling her just how much she doesn't know.

Everyone thinks that Brea Robinson is crazy, herself included. When she seems to have killed her best friend it feels like her life is over. Suddenly she's swept through a portal to a completely different world by a man who says his name is Griffin O'Shea and that his queen wants to see her. When other royals show interest in Brea she wonders what's so special about her. One thing is clear: she can trust noone and nothing in this strange fae world.

I've read several books in this series before, but I haven't read the first trilogy before now. It's great to see how it all began and how the characters behaved before they knew each other. I already have a lot of information of what's to come, but I don't remember all the details. Usually it takes a while to get to know a new fantasy world, but I'm already familiar with it and that's nice. It's fun to experience what things shaped Brea to become the person she is in the later books. I love her and Lochlan's disputes, and I can really understand his frustration with her. Brea's human phrases gets extra humorous since they feel so out of place in the fae world. And Miles! I totally get why he's Brea's best friend! Highly recommend this series!

Queens of the Fae (Omnibus)
by M. Lynn & Melissa A. Craven
YA Fantasy Folklore
Scribd Audio

This audiobook contains the first three books in the Queens of the Fae series, (Fae's Deception, Fae's Defiance, and Fae's Destruction). This is the story of Brea Robinson, a teenager who has been different her entire life, sent to mental institutions for telling people she saw strange things, and for her anger, lashing out and hurting her parents and her best friend, which gets her arrested for murder.

But sitting in the jail cell a man with violet eyes takes her through a portal into the world everyone has told her was all in her mind.

The story began a little slow, but it picked up and the audio narrator was really good. There is action, romance, betrayal, funnies, and morals. And while there is sexuality and battles, they are not too graphic so it's appropriate for mature readers 16 and over. There were some nice descriptions, though I don't feel the 'Fae' aspects of the characters were described enough, or in in-depth detail. They were there, but just not enough to keep the picture of them being Fae (different) in the mind's eye.

The only thing I don't like is that the books were short, and if bought, I feel they cost a little too much a piece for the page count. (I wouldn't buy these for the prices they are each listed at, and that is including the omnibus. Happily, it was included with my Scribd Subscription. But this didn't affect my opinions of the book itself.)

I almost didn't listen to this book. I was going to, but changed my mind, then had random.org pick my next read, and out of the 1000+ books I have on my want-to-read list, this one was picked, number matching right up.

book 1: when a "human" girl gets sucked into the fae realm where all three kingdoms spin reasons why they want her. Some truths are revealed that changes her life. Looking forward to seeing how this series plays out.
book 2: after escaping one kingdom (aunt's) to find herself in another kingdom(moms') Brea tries to come to terms about the fae world and who she really is. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.
book 3: after all the ups and downs, losses and forgotten memories Brea and family get their happy endings.

I really liked this first part of this series. The world was fascinating and the characters interesting. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a great job with it.

My only complaints are the constant references to and conversations about Brea’s “strange human speak.” And then the fae would use some idiom or cliche that is definitely “human”, so the inconsistency bugged me. Overall, it was a little too PG for me to fully invest in the relationships, but I love a good enemies-to-lovers story. If this was more PG-13 or even R spice level then I’d have liked it even more. There’s definitely enough conflict and drama to hold interest, but thinking back on it, the “bad guy” wasn’t really all that bad and the main conflict pretty tame.

Great World Building, Somewhat Annoying Heroine

Audiobook Review:

This box set contains the first three books of the author’s Queens of the Fae series. The author states it is a complete story within itself, though certainly a few loose threads exist. It is complete in that the three books wholly encompass a broader story arc we see build throughout the three books, adding complications as the story moves along. In the end, good triumphs over evil, and the three fae realms have new, younger rulers.

The author has created a fascinating, complex world. The world-building is well done. We are gradually exposed to the world chiefly through the main heroine’s eyes, one who is new to the fae world—she’s a narrator in each book. Perspective alternates with other characters who grew up in the fae realms. Things certainly are not always what they seem, and at first, the heroine does not know who to trust. Neither do we, as the reader, and I enjoyed learning about the crucial aspects of the other characters and the fae world along with the heroine. When she gets surprised, so do we!

I thought the author let a few things go on a little too long. For instance, in the first book, a character opens the book whom we learn nothing more of until much later. She disappears in that first scene, and I'll admit I was feeling a little frustrated not knowing what was happening with/to her. The book immediately switches to the main heroine’s, Brea’s, perspective.

In general, I think the narrator of this audiobook set did a decent job. She certainly was able to give each character a distinctive voice so they could easily be picked out. She made the human teenagers both rather cocky and forthright. I'll admit that by books two and three her voicing for the main female character, Brea, got a bit wearing. She just has too much attitude all the time. While I certainly know some people like her, they're not 100% like that all the time. I also found the heroine a bit much at times, as I didn't really feel like she matured or grew as a character in these three books. She was a mouthy brat far too often, rarely gave a straight answer, and had absolutely no sense of self-preservation. It's a good thing the others around her cared more about her than she did herself!

I won’t reveal the plot thread that was dropped, as it would give away too much, but the question raised would certainly have repercussions for the heroine and her chosen hero for a long time to come.

I received a promo copy of the audiobook, but that did not affect my review.

A human girl with a troubled past – who better to save the fae world?

Review Deception:
Sometimes, ya gotta be your own knight in shining armor
This is a relevant message for females to not rely on males to get them out of scrapes. Okay to accept help from people regardless of gender, but we gals gotta learn our own skills and hone our own minds. Because ‘beautiful things often have a sharp bite.’
Word of caution from the author:
If you’re going to mention ‘Ygritte…of the Free Folk, North of the Wall’ or ‘Breanne of Tarth’, better make sure that ‘Jon Snow’ isn’t around.
There are other fantasy references from the human world (Harry Potter series and author David Eddings) as some of the fae enjoy reading weird human stuff about themselves.
Does Brea learn to trust others in her new home after all the deceptions around her? Or does she defy her new role in order to get back to Myles? We’ll have to read the next in series to find out.

Review Defiance:
Sacrificing self for the good of all.
I never want to be a princess as there’s too much danger involved. Faking a kidnapping, switched at birth, raised with no knowledge of my heritage, treated like a pawn in a game of thrones. Fostering royal children from youth creates conflicted loyalties and breaks ties with their native land. There is so much to learn in order to rule and some of it is by living that life.
The fae read Humantales like we humans read fairy tales. Brea is given a library book ‘depicting Henry VIII as a benevolent king’ (it was a love story). Well, he did write the song, Greensleeves…
Eldur berry brew (similar to coffee) is ‘the secret answer to all the world’s problems’ and it’s just as evil there as it is here.
Is Brea able to stand on her own two feet against twisted rulers who are masters at their games? We’ll have to read ‘Destruction’ to find out.

Review Destruction:
‘Be ready to strike from the inside’

A forced marriage is one thing, but can you imagine having to pick out invitation paper, flowers, and cakes for a wedding you don’t want? Just kill me now…

There are many sacrifices made for blood ties, friendships, and loyalties. But where does the individual stand? Do royals ever get a say in their lives?

Fave phrase - only by a Muggle:
‘Ridiculously long Legolas hair’

This series continues through book #12.
Starting books 4-6 soon (collection).

Queens of the Fae is a box set trilogy, the first three books in the greater Queens of the Fae Collection of trilogies, consisting of Fae's Deception, Fae's Defiance, and Fae's Destruction. This trilogy follows the story of Brea Robinson, a girl from Ohio, as her world is turned upside down after she is arrested for the supposed murder of her best friend during one of her 'episodes.' She is rescued from jail and transported to the Fae world where she learns that she's not crazy as everyone thought, including herself, and that her whole life has been a lie. She also learns that she is somehow important to all three kingdoms in this realm.

Each book centers on one of the three realms and Brea's position in and/or connection to it. Throughout the series she makes friends, discovers enemies, makes sacrifices, and grows from a seemingly unbalanced girl into a confident young woman.

I love the characters and their development over the course of the three books. The world building is fantastic and even smaller characters are fleshed out well. I only have one criticism. I know it is inevitable with portal fantasies, but the regular and sometimes pointed references to the human world, culture, etc. pulled me out of the story at times. Overall though, I loved this trilogy and cannot wait to read the next three.

I listened to Queens of the Fae as an audiobook and feel the narrator did a fantastic job too.

This is box set of the first three books in the Queen of the Fae series. The characters are well developed with compelling back stories, strong motivation, and goals. They have bold personalities and make bold choices. They have captivating internal conflicts with multiple difficult decisions to make. I felt like I was right there watching, feeling, and experiencing the book...not just reading it. The atmosphere created and characters were so realistic. The world building is detailed, imaginative and so well done that you're drawn into a fantastic world unlike any other. The storyline is fast-paced and very well written, filled with magic, Fae, danger, death, politics, intrigue, and subterfuge. The plot thickens, the suspense builds, and the passion erupts! I can’t wait to read the rest of this series

Queen of the Fae is the start of a series. The first trilogy focuses on Brea Robinson, a misfit who is abducted by the fae amidst the accidental slaughter of her best friend Miles. What ensues is a tale of power, deception and a world where not everything seems as it is. Books 1 and 2 of this series are clear 5/5 stories. Book 3 is incredibly well written but the plot goes in a direction that made me uncomfortable. Overall, great start.

3.5 Stars: 'Queens of the Fae' is a (adjective to be determined) 12 book series. The first three tell the story of Brea, a fae teenager raised in the human world, unaware of her true self nor of her future obligations; share in her journey to a world consumed by power struggles between kingdoms, broken trust, and bleeding hearts. I found Brea both refreshing and too against the grain for her role.

After a slow start, once the series got going and the dust surrounding the lead's abilities settled, I believe a four star rating is warranted for the storyline alone; however, listening to the audiobook version falls short in the narration. While I enjoy audiobooks, my tolerance is low for for single narrator reads and for narrators not of appropriate age for the characters whom they voice.

This book set is good for teens, I have not finished all three books yet but should be done by tomarrow. We have mystery, suspense and some twist. Brea thought she was human, until she finds another world. The fae realms are at verge of war and follow Brea as she navagates everything that is going on. Who to trust and who not to.

An YA fantasy series about a human who is taken to a Fae realm. Brea’s journey begins when she is taken to a different world. She finds this new world amazing and makes her old life impossible to return to. She has to deal with a Queen and a world where a war is about to began. An amazing fantasy world and an exceptional series. With well written characters and perfect for young adult readers.

I generally liked the trilogy, but thought at times the characters were too juvenile (sure, they are late teens, but still...) or the story was dragging or not flowing smoothly. So I end up with a mixed feeling after finishing, even if I normally eat up these kinds of stories with dark and dangerous fae.
But I believe that late teens may enjoy this book more than I did.

There are aspects of the first book that come across as more YA than I usually enjoy, but the story really hits its stride towards the middle. The second book was probably my favorite out of the three. The main character was hard to get used to and there’s still part of her that drives me a little crazy, but it seems accurate to her age and life experience.

The world building is impressive and the writing is descriptive without being overdone.

This is a YA book and I found the story line is truly written for young adults. It can be very cheesy at times but in a fun way. The world building is simple and easy to follow, as is the story itself. If you're looking for a fun, light hearted, read then this is the book for you. This is the first 3 books in the Queen of the Fae series. It wraps up well in book 3, but if you love the characters, and want to continue the story, there are 9 more books in the series.

This was a fun read, not totally predictable, which I love, thank you authors! I loved where every one ended up at the end of the book, and not the predictable forced positions MC's always end up in. The whole humans talk weird thing was sometimes funny and sometimes a little weird, but not anything that made me enjoy the book any less..

I really liked this story. I was excited to see how it turned out and would like to hear more. The life of fairies is different from that of humans and follows unexpected rules. Can these be changed?
If you love fantastical tales, this is for you.
The audio book is really insightful and I enjoyed it.

Magical Series

Queens of the Fae is an amazing series about a young girl, Brea, raised as a human trying to find her place in the fae world. She learns some hard lessons on who she can trust while also discovering who she is and who she is meant to be. Not to mention who to give her heart to. You can't help but be drawn into this magical world with Brea and her friends.

This omnibus of books 1-3 in the Queens of Fae Collections is the start of the series. In this book we have Brea, who gets pulled into the fae world and all that it entails.

Brea has to not only get accustomed to this new world, she has to figure out exactly who she is now.

The world building was wonderful and detailed, and the character building was also just as great! I had to keep reading to find out what would happen to Brea and the far world she has come into.

The first book was okay, I loved the second book, and the third book was once again okay. Bri threw a lot of tantrums and was super immature even for a teenager in the book. Overall cute, but would not reread.
