Lex

They've taken my girl.
My little bird.

I'll do whatever it takes to get her back, even if it means I have to level this city to the ground.
They've woken the monster and I'll be damn sure my face is the last one they see before I send them all to hell.

Wren

Beaten.
Bruised.
Broken.

They want me weak and submissive but they've underestimated me.
I'm no damsel.
They've taken me from Lex and I know he'll do everything to get me back.
After all, I'm the queen of this city and my rightful place is next to the King.

It's time to end this war.

Twisted King is the second and final book in the Twisted City Duet. It cannot be read as a standalone.

this book is trash but here’s some hot quotes:

”wren stares at me like she would love nothing more than to rip my throat out with her bare hands. I believe she'd do it too. what kind of man does it make me if that it turns me on?

“i don't know how it happened or but she was under my skin, in my black soul, a light cutting through the shadows that is my life. I needed her and I've never needed anyone.”

"you want me on my knees for you, little bird?"
with a grin to match hers, I slide from the bed, dropping to my knees, "I'm already there, baby," I admit. "Ill always be on my knees for you. I'd burn it all for you."

Twisted King is the conclusion in The Twisted City Duet. And what a conclusion it is.

Book two starts where book one ended and has Marcus’s POV. Lex may be Wren’s monster. But, Marcus is Wren’s villain. Lex has become unhinged and ready to burn down the city to find her and leave no corner unturned. How can a father treat his daughter with such malice and disdain?!?

Lex’s little bird learns to fly and burn from the ashes to rise like a Phoenix, Lex is ready to make her his queen and stand by his side. Everyone around Wren underestimates her strength and how resilient she is. The girl is a warrior.

What I liked about this book is how fast-paced, action-packed, and overall fantastic plot. The character development alone is five stars. My concern is about the first 20% of the book has a small repetition. Don’t let that discourage you from reading this book. Twisted King is still a great read.

We are introduced to some new characters, and they are very intriguing, with some suicidal tendencies. I look forward to learning more about them. As with any dark and mafia romance, read your trigger warnings. On my dark scale, I would say dark gray.

4.5⭐️

This one is wayyyyy better than the first and I already liked the first.
This one Lex is bathing the city in blood to get his little bird back. That’s no stone unturned and nothing nor no one that can stop him.
Poor Ren goes through it in this book. This one is packed with action and interesting characters. I would love to read about Kingston and his sister Isabel. I also really like Ryker…..

I skimmed a lot.

This book handles a lot of dark themes and some of them are really thought to get through. We pick up where the last book left off with Wren being shot and kidnapped by her biological father Valentine who is a human trafficker. He has her brought to a house filled with girls being raped and tortured and she heard/sees everything.

They beat her up and do a lot of violent things to her, but she is not touched sexually even though the threats are there. We find out her best friend of many years (whom we met in book 1) Rory has been taken as well and raped for weeks.

Once the two girls are saved its obvious Rory has lost all meaning to life and she ends up killing herself. I wish she had been able to live on with her life, but I know that the dark thoughts can overpower, and they did.

I will say Wren's reaction afterwards to her best friend’s death was weird? There were moments where she was just moving on and then she would be sad but then back to normal? Idk it felt off and it felt out of character, especially since back in the house of terror she placed her body in harm’s way to keep Rory safe? I know we all grieve differently but to me it seemed so out of character for Wren.

We also never got a conclusion about Ainsley and her whereabouts. NOTHING? She was this big-time hacker and IT expert, and she could not send any info or messages? It was again odd, and it felt like it all happened with her to conclude the Syndicate plot which it didn't because they are still after her?

And I looked and she does not have a book? Is it at least concluded in the British siblings’ books?

Overall, I was just sad that this duet didn't live up to what I had imagined.

Twisted King was incredibly fast-paced and sexy. I enjoyed reading this new to me author and can't wait to read more in this world. I loved how in this duet Wren remainded stong and assertive. She was such a powerhouse in the story and her role and badassery didn't diminish despite all the trauma that happened to her. Likewise Lex was formiddable as ever and was only bolstered by his love for Wren. They really are a magnificent duo. Now I can't wait to jump on Kingston's book! 4.5 stars! ~Ratula

Review coming soon....
This book follows on from Ria's first book in the series, Little Bird, and the gritty mafia romance has you hooked from the start.
The way Ria writes makes you feel like you're right in the book with Wren and Lex.
From the beginning it had action with Lex going on the warpath to get Wren back and boy did he go his way about it.
The passion and attraction between Lex and Wren was EVERYTHING TO ME. I swooned over Lex.
This book had everything I enjoy, action, angst, passion and a mafia trope plot that was amazing.
If you love Mafia Tropes with a badass lead female and passionate, obsessive, dominating male lead this is for you. But Lex is for me - he's mine so there!!

** I was given an ARC by the Author in exchange for an honest review **

This is book two in the Twisted City duet. (Little Bird is book one)
Twisted King picks up right where book one ended. And the plot thickens! What I love about the authors writing is how fast paced the books are. You get action, plot, spice, amazing character development.

Lex Silver is a Man that would burn not only his city but the entire world down for his Queen.

Wren is a badass, amazing character development with her in book 2! She definitely overcomes a lot and proves just how much everyone underestimates her. She is strong and in every right a Queen.

Together Wren and Lex are the perfect power couple!

The first 50% is plot. The spice comes later but it is nothing short of spicy!

There are 2 new character introduced and I am extremely interested in their story as well! I can’t wait for their book.

I loved the conclusion to Lex and Wren’s story. Everything wrapped up nicely. There were a couple of questions I had that didn’t get answered but I’m hoping in the next characters book that it might be brought up.

Overall these two books are amazing and I highly recommend!

Little Bird by Ria Wilde, was WILD with the hate, emotions and passion, and of course ended in a cliffhanger but your wait is finally over.

Twisted King starts off as a Captive/Captor Dark Romance with Mafia vibes but progresses. This book is book two of Wren & Lex’s story and should be read after Little Bird, Twisted City Duet Book 1.

“Alexander Silver was both my monster and my savior”

“I will always protect you,” I tell her, “You will always be first.” “Your city comes first,” she breathes, pressing a kiss to my palm. “Not anymore, little bird.”

Book two starts off where book one left us hanging and questions not being answered. I was instantly hooked. We learn more and more about Wren’s life she wasn’t aware of and Lex’s doing everything and anything in his power to get her back.

I am loving Lex and Wren so much, but not as much as Ria introducing us with more bread crumbs and characters that I hope to see in this Twisted City she created for us.

TW/CW: dark themes such as blood and violence, torture, mentions of rape happening/mentions of human/sex trafficking, self-harm and suicide.

All I’m going to say is that there’s a quote “but he wasn’t the villain in my story” and then the tiktok song started playing in my head.

Fast-paced, spice, and cliffhangery ending leading into the spin off series that I probably won’t continue.

SPOILER ALERT
I thought part one was okay and everything would fall in place in book 2. I was wrong. Ainsley is gone and as a computer hacker that’s sooo good she can’t find a way all this time to get word to Lex. Wow! Lex father who was mentioned in book 1 was finally brought back in around chapter 8 of book 2. He could not talk on the phone before but guess what? Yep. You guessed it. He can speak on the phone now even though he’s being monitored. Rory who just met Ryker needs him to fall asleep after being rescued due to nightmares and so does Wren who needs Lex. Really??? Lex has all this money and they want to help Rory yet no therapy or teaching her how to defend herself. The Syndicate is powerful but yet Lex is certain he can take them on with his band of merry men. How can the Syndicate be in Alex’s pocket. No explanation. Whatever. Mr. Heart made no sense in this book. This book needed to develop more.

⛔️ THIS IS BOOK 2 IN A DUET. THIS CANNOT BE READ ALONE. ⛔️

We get our conclusion of Lex and his little bird, Wren. I will say, Twisted King (book 2) is much dark than Little Bird (book 1). Listening to this on audiobook made me want to punch something at times. The situation is fiction obviously but the sad reality that hit me is, this really happens. I do not have triggers (see my list of 4-star and up previous reads 👀) but reading about trafficking and hearing the cries does something to me.

Enough with the heavy… I enjoyed the conclusion to our toxic couple. Wren of course got on my nerves several times throughout (as almost all FMC’s we read about). She was Lex’ queen and wanted to be his wait, I get it, but she had zero experience and it got annoying when we were in her head as she was going prove to Lex she could handle herself. Eh, just stop.

Over all this was a good second half that left me questions. That ending?! Even though this is the end of the duet, there are spin offs that I will definitely be reading. Speaking of ending, I felt it was a tad rushed and like I said, it left me with questions. Was that the plan? The authors goal? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Happy reading!

This second book fell a bit short for me Wren in book one was a fighter & a badass who took no bullshit & listened to no one, in this book I feel she wasn’t really that though I do understand she was injured most of the book. Lex’s words felt a bit repetitive for me. Some scenes felt rushed, or I was often asking myself if this was really happening, lol.

Twisted King by Ria Wilde is book 2 and the epic, dark, and gripping conclusion to the Twisted City duet. This book picks up right where Little Bird left off giving you immediate answers, and even more intense, spicy action! Wren and Lex finally get their HEA, but their journey to get there is full of danger, bloodshed, and revenge!

Lucy Rivers and Joe Arden once again narrate the audiobook. Both add fuel to their performances in the blazing hot fire that is raging between the Silvers, the Valentines, and the Syndicate. Lucy brought out Wren’s torment along with her growing confidence in a chilling and powerful performance. Joe delivers quite a few of his favorite words in this one in a dominant alpha tone, that will definitely command your attention! Plus, Joe’s performance of Lex’s undying love for his city and Wren will enrapture your heart.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. If you are a fan of a dark mafia romance with morally grey characters, kick-ass heroines who get what they want, devoted friends, danger, blood, intense action, lots and lots of spice, revenge, controlling the city, and a HEA that is twisted in all the best ways, then you will love the conclusion to Lex and Wren’s story. I am looking forward to more from Ria Wilde.

This one was more readable than the first, as it did not contain as many errors. Still the plot was rather flat and the characters were not as intriguing as they were in Little Bird.
And a very personal preference: a book without a pregnancy trope epilogue would be great once in a while.

Jezzz.. this conclusion of The Twisted City Duet was so dangerous, and sexy AF. Reckless in the most delicious way! Lex has only one goal, only one purpose in his life now. To get Wren, his “Little Bird” back that was stolen from him. He’s manic, he’s unhinged. Not even his precious city he runs through fear will be spared. He will burn it all to the ground, and kill anyone in the way of getting Wren back in his arms. He was Wren’s monster, her devil, and he was creating a war to rescue her.
Oh, poor Wren… the first few chapters were just so damn heartbreaking! She has grown even more powerful not just physically but mentally. She knows Lex is coming for her. Her king. She feels something has awoken in her that has always been a part of her soul, a darkness that matches Lex’s. The way Ria writes.. the second book is definitely with more emotions that I love to have a dark Romance. I want action, morally grey men.. love/violence, hate/lust and compassion. Ria delivers this all to me in spades! Wren was made to be his queen, to standby his side as his ruthless queen. There is definitely more blood and knife play in this. So much so, at one particular scene I was so caught off guard…. it took “bathing in the blood of your enemies” to a whole other erotic level… 😳🔥🖤… So scorching hot.
Lucy Rivers narration impressed me so much throughout this story. She was so amazing with conveying Wren’s scared, but determined stubbornness in the beginning. As the story progressed, she turned into the vengeful, strong, empowered, queen that she is. Lucy‘s male voice was so deliciously maniacal. I love her always! Joe Arden brought back Lex’s super crazy possessive, ruthless edge, and his deep dominant signature rasps. He brought different emotions out of Lex too. Wow, the love the tenderness, the patience. But man… all that growly animalistic 90% of the time…. H O T! There was a part in the book where he just sighed for so long it was bone chilling. He’s got your praise kink covered again with all the sexy AF “good girl’s”. One of the biggest surprises? What is his delivery of THE MOST EPIC F*** I have ever heard him do! This word he definitely is the king of. He nailed it. He killed it! Period!

(I was gifted an ALC of this audiobook. This is my honest review).

I listened to Little Bird first and immediately started this audiobook! There are definitely triggers, so please check warnings. This book has a lot of conversation around human trafficking, and while no sexual assault or rape happens to the MFC, it does happen to side characters. This comes up in conversation, but the listener is not experiencing it while it happens.

As a reminder from the first book, Little Bird, this is a dark romance set in a mafia world with families in a war over control of the city. Lex is a very dominant, possessive, hard man who wants revenge on his enemy by kidnapping his daughter. There is a lot of violence and fighting between them, but also a very strong attraction. He is not used to dealing with his emotions but as he starts to fall in love with Wren, he softens towards her. This story begins immediately after Little Bird ends with Wren being shot and taken from Lex.

The biggest critique I have of the writing, is that the author tends to repeat words within the same sentence. For example, "he pushed me behind him as someone closed the door behind him." I didn't really notice it much at first, but then it became very obvious when it happened. And it may have just been more apparent with the audio.

If you passed on reading or listening to a book like Hunting Adeline, because you thought the triggers and issues of rape and sexual assault were too intense, but you like the idea of the storyline, this duet is a much better option for you.

As far as the narration in the audiobook, Joe Arden and Lucy Rivers did a fabulous job with the emotion and content of the story. It is duel style narration. I really enjoyed Lucy's female voice and how she expressed the strong willed nature of the FMC. Her male voice matched Joe's pacing and tone pretty well, even though I feel like her male voice is not one of my favorites among female narrators. This is completely a matter of personal preference.

This was my first dark romance duet narrated by Joe Arden and he did not disappoint! His breath control is very impressive, and I love that he tends to narrate much faster than the average. He is also amazing at enunciating hard consonants, which added to the anger and dominance the listener feels from the MMC.

There was also incredible spice in this audiobook! So be prepared for that.

“When you can’t run from the monsters, you join them. You stand at their side and watch the world burn all around you.”

Part One of Duet “Little Bird” is live now!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.75
Wren Valentine & Alexander “Lex” Silver

This has a very Romeo and Juliet feel to it. The Valentines and Silvers are at war and Wren, though innocent and having no clue about her fathers dirty dealings, gets caught in the middle of it.

The characters are so strong and have such draw to each other. Wren is feisty too and stands her own ground. She pushes back and doesn’t put up with crap. She goes though so much and comes out stronger. She’s a fantastic heroine

For a debut book I was blown away and was so excited to be included in the early review for the second in this duet. There are some parts that were a bit violent and made me cringe but it just adds to the story and the characters.

There’s some side characters too I’m hoping we might see in the future from Ria. If your looking for dark, mafia-esque, strong characters, lots of action and spice, then this is your duet to read! It was everything I was looking for and then some.

[ALC Audiobook Review]
Overall: ☆☆☆☆☆
Performance: ☆☆☆☆☆
Story: ☆☆☆☆☆

Twisted King is Book 2 and the conclusion of the Twisted City Duet by Ria Wilde. I was convinced from book 1 of Ria Wilde's talent as an author, and this piece of work was the nail in the coffin. Twisted King goes into so much more detail explaining the basis for the mafia war over Lex's city and had my ears on fire from the love scenes.

I can't say enough good things about this book. If you love a dark romance, spicy af love scenes, repeated violent battles that ensue within mafia wars as well as experience just how far a man will go to destroy those who have taken his woman then Twisted King is a book for you. It cannot be read as a stand alone so I highly recommend you read Little Bird first.

The performances of narrators Joe Arden and Lucy Rivers were top notch. Chapter 17 was the best for me. The raw and tangible emotions are flawless . My heart was breaking for Lex- knowing he had never once in his life felt that sort of fear and helplessness, and to see Wren unravel after having suffered unbearable trauma at the hands of her father...bravo to the team of narrators and author. Please be aware of the content warnings: self-harm, unaliving and SA. I received this free ALC and am leaving this honest review in my own words.

Lex is truly a king who will burn the world down for his Queen. He might be a twisted King, but a King is only as strong as the Queen standing beside him.

We pick up right where we left off in book 1. This conclusion for Wren and Lex is an emotionally charged journey about survival and becoming who you were always meant to be. Wren faces unspeakable horrors but she doesn’t cower, doesn’t give up, and ultimately rises from the ashes.

And Lex is right there beside her.

I enjoyed this conclusion to their story and look forward to more of this world.

This duet was phenomenal. It reminds me of a “tamer” version the cat and mouse duet but completely different at the same time. I was totally invested, it had me squealing and crying and wanting more. I feel like there needs to be a 3rd book, there’s questions I still have and feel like it’s not done!

I highlyyyy recommend this duet if you love possessive men, danger/violence, a bada$$ FMC, revenge, burn the world down for her, spicy books🔥

This book starts where it left on the previous book. It's obvious that Lex will try his best to get back Wren. However, the best thing about the whole process was how beautifully it was written. This was as if I'm watching live movie!!

Here you get to see how they comfort each other, hugging and making other person feel safe. It was so wholesome. So good to see Isobel Hunter and all the other characters. Finally they took their revenge on Valentine . It was so fun to read that part!

FIVE STARS AND 4 CHILI PEPPERS for the follow
up to Little Bird and the conclusion to the Twisted City Duet!!

Lex will stop at absolutely nothing to get Wren back- we love a man who’s ready to burn the world to the ground for his woman. Joe really brought that dark, unhinged energy that I love!!

Wren is just so strong. She went through so much and she absolutely refused to break. Lucy brought that quiet strength to life and I freaking loved it.

Lex battles his need to keep Wren safe, while also wanting to allow her the vengeance she seeks, and to see her thrive and spread her wings. Wren wants Lex to see how strong they can be TOGETHER as a team. And of course she wins.

Together these two will stop at nothing to bring down Valentine and the other forces that are against them. They’re such a power couple, ready to rule over their city together.

This audio book was incredible and Lucy and Joe didn’t come to play- they came to destroy. They succeeded!!!

I thought I’d write this immediately after finishing the book. First, I couldn’t stop the book and go to bed. It is THAT good! Second, we g get knew evil was coming for Wren. I just couldn’t wrap my mind around who it would be and the lengths they go to “punish” her.
At the end of Little Bird, Wren was shot and the club blew up. Wren, Lex and Ryker survived but barely. It the midst of the chaos, Wren is kidnapped. Then the hell begins.
Lex is ruthless when it comes to his enemies but melts when with Wren. I see feel that she lifts him up vs the author stating she’s going to “bring him to his knees.”
Wren is in constant confusion about her feelings for Lex in the first book. However, those feelings are solid now. She’s so in love with him and he returns the sentiment ten fold.
Lex, Wren and Ryker join forces with Kingston in order to find those who harmed her.
I loved the push and pull between Lex and Wren. I loved how Lex became a different man, showing Wren the love she deserved.
Lex needed a voice that would convey so many different emotions. From the love he had for Wren to the anger he felt towards those who hurt her. Joe pulled this off with the perfection I’ve come to know he possesses! Lucy was just amazing when bringing Wren’s character to life. She had all of the sass, fear, love and hate that Wren experienced. She was a perfect choice! I would definitely bump this up on your TBL. You won’t be disappointed 😉

Oh my heart!!!

Twisted King thankfully picks up right where little Bird left us hanging by a thread and on the verge of insanity. The conclusion to Wren and Lex's story is intense and gripping and will no doubt leave you holding your breath and grasping for sanity. This is by far the darker of the two books and I implore you to check any trigger Warnings before jumping right in to listen if you are sensitive to some subjects. With that said I admire an author who is not afraid to really go all in, and while there are very swoony moments this is not a fluffy watered down Mafia Romance. It’s violent, it’s gritty, it’s an edge of your seat ride with a well deserved HEA.

Lucy Rivers and Joe Arden gave me chills so many times throughout this story. Wren went through a lot in this book and they both brought out that raw desperation, anger, and pain into their performances that you feel in your bones. It was breathtaking and just shows the talent they have that amazes me. Well done!!

Overall the conclusion to this duet wrapped up the story nicely and I loved every minute it!!! And even though it’s early in the year I just know this duet will be one of my top listens of this year!

“𝐴𝑛𝑑 𝑠𝑜 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑚𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝑙𝑜𝑣𝑒,𝑎𝑓𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑎𝑙𝑙.”

I was so excited to be given a copy of this ARC In exchange for an honest review .
Twisted King is the conclusion to the Twisted City Duet.
Book 2 is just as hot and action packed as the first .
Wren has been shot and taken by her father. Lex is ripping apart the city to get her back. He is a force to be reckoned with. He’s powerful, dangerous and wants back what was taken from him.
Wren proves yet again what a badass and relentless woman she is. She will get back to Lex if it kills her. All that she goes through , the torturing and beatings, yet she remains defiant, brave and never stops fighting back . She’s his queen.
I loved the dark alpha dynamic in this book. I love that the heroine remains a badass , never the damsel.
I thought this book was extremely well done. I love dark romance and this got it DONE! I really enjoyed this!
I can’t wait for more of this world!
