Second book is the best out of first three in series

These books are like stepping into new slippers—a bit strange at first but then they feel really comfortable for wearing on a slow amble around the house.

The pacing is slow without dragging, but there are scenes that could be trimmed down, especially repetitive conversations with Hal.

The first book reminds me of a murder mystery dinner party that happens to be set in space. The reader learns more about the characters, their motives, including the protagonist’s, as the pages turn.

There are secondary/tertiary characters that seem to be red herrings, that do not serve any other purpose in the first three books, but maybe they show up in later books? Other secondary characters frequently appear in all three books. They make a likable group.

The second book has the best action-adventure plot and is set on a desert planet.

The third book is strange, almost corny, and the plot seems off balance. Too much of the story feels like a recap of a Comic-Con conference but set in space. The pop singer and his friends are supposed to be mysterious, but their behavior lacks justifiable and believable motive.

There is romance in these first three installments, but it’s a very slow burn—not even a kiss! The science is well thought out and adds realism to the story. The politics of the various power holders is sketched in, but the intergalactic plot seems back-burner for much of the story.

The add-in prequel novella, which starts at 92%, is refreshing in that it’s brisk and the romance sparks hotter with some kissing and close contact.

While some readers might prefer a faster plot, more battle scenes, and a quicker heat-up between the hero and heroine, there’s something relaxing about reading a good book that takes its time.

The books are filled with annoying comma omissions, some typos, and a few made up cuss words, but the writing is otherwise engaging. I may continue the series if the next books are at the right price.

Just couldn’t really get going with this.
Not sure what it was but there weren’t really any compelling characters and the plot just seemed to meander and trundle within much direction.
Didn’t really get the main protagonist and their romantic interest, plus the non-jeopardy ’crisis’ points and some very stereotyped cliches of players, that I think were supposed to be funny but completely missed the mark, meant I gave up at ~40%.
Very rare for me to dnf, it takes a special kind of dull to do that, but despite trying multiple times to reactivate my interest and plough on, in the end I had to jack it in.
Nothing memorable about it, bland and uninteresting language, whatever the opposite of ‘a joy to read’, this is that.

This was a fun series of books and a very interesting concept. In order to "fold" space you need a very accurate clock so you end up where and when you want to be so there have to be people (or aliens) to maintain these clocks. Well in this story there is a human clocker who secretly maintains these clocks.
The story's were fun and imaginative, especially her cover as a Scholar studying filk! Lots of good stuff and fun adventures.

In the hands of author A. M. Scott folding space is quite something literally in the hands of aliens. Except Saree. Saree is very much human and she can fold space too. That, though, comes with all sorts of dangers.
The Lightwave series is an excellent SciFi adventure series that thrills and enthrall in equal measure. Having them all in one box set, is going to rob the reader of lots of sleep, I have no doubt. But so worthwhile!
Enjoy.

how did I get through that so quickly?

Wow, I thought that would be at least a weeks worth of reading. Happy to disappoint myself. Could not put the books down. One late night led into two and I finished all four on day three. Just plain riveting and fun to read. Get your teeth into them today.

Just finished prequel and now finished that and 1st 3 books in series. Excellent character development, especially enjoy science fiction conventions and filk music involvement in the series. Read for free using Prime free read. Have purchased second box set for $9.99 ... Lightwave: Folding Space Series Books 4 through 7 (Folding Space Boxed Sets Book 2)

Reasonable story.

The writer persists in naming the person being talked to in the dialogue, which gets annoying.

Book 3 didn't really have a story with action.

Worth reading if you have some spare time.

Space opera extraordinaire!

A great story with lots of action and many different aliens. The Saree vs Rugher dynamic gets a bit repetitive.

I received a no cost copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving this review.

New space family to fall in love with

A series of page turner's. A thoroughly enjoyable read from start to finish with characters that grow on you pretty quickly. I enjoyed these so much that I purchased the next four.
