Nine-year-old orphan, Wren, has survived the streets of Mandar City so far, but on a trip to the marketplace to steal food, everything goes wrong.
The mythics that live, for the most part, in harmony with the humans don't take kindly to thieves.
Can Wren and his night scamp survive the ire of the mythics, or will the wrath of the guards find him first?

Wren by A.L. Tippett is a short story from the world of the Minath series. Having not read the series, I found the premise of this story intriguing but not enough detail for me to connect with the world. The story is strange and sad. I would be interested in reading the series to learn more about this world and it's characters.

An odd and sad short story that throws you in at the deep end into the world of the MINATH Chronicles. It took me a little while to get the idea of the setting - a sort of modern urban fantasy dystopia where mythical creatures live alongside humans - but it worked once established. In it we follow the orphan boy Wren as he tries to go about scarping out a living on the streets with his companion critter Goog and has a run-in with the law. At times the exposition of the world could feel a little out of place (explaining why a "squab" was called that right at a fast-paced dramatic moment was a bit jarring) and it obviously overlaps with events from the main series somehow that made me feel like I was missing something (Seraphina and the partly heard conversations), but it makes for an intriguing setting with a gritty magical YA vibe.

A little short story from the The Minath Chronicles, Wren is a young boy living in the peace tree with his little bat like freind Goog, homeless and living in a rough world ruled by humans and mythics, when the hunger gets the better of him, he gets caught stealing by a minotaur from his stall, about to get punished a tracker for the government Seraphina steps in to help him, but refuses and runs away running into Squab his life is turned upside down forever, a sad little tale and a promise of revenge, highly recommend....😁
