Delayed Penalty is book seven in the Scoring series, it could be read as a stand-alone, and so far I've enjoyed every book Jami Davenport published.

Jasper is a hockey player, Blaire is a dressage rider, they married at a very young age when they weren't so keen to take into accounts of the needs of the other, so their marriage derailed after only one year. Now years passed and they weren't in each other life for a long time until they have to reunite to legally divorce. Will they be still annoyed by the other or will they try to revive their relationship?

Jasper and Blaire have an amazing chemistry but out of the bed they have a lot of problems.
I've appreciated the characters development, I was so glad to see they work through their issues and finally they find a way to balance their different interests in order to get their happily ever after.
Blaire is my favourite character, she has to find the strength to survive on her own, and she doesn't discourage at the first sign of trouble.

If you like second chance romances I recommend this book.

I love stories about estranged couples who reconnect. Who are offered a second chance at a happy ending. Add to that some hockey, and I was sold! Unfortunately, the book didn’t quite deliver.

For a second chance at love, I expect some… love. And yet, I saw a lot of lust–Blaire and Jasper mostly think about their physical attraction for each other, and how they were highly compatible in bed–and some memories that aren’t even detailed, just called ‘good times’. And that’s it. They have almost no cordial conversation, no adult talk about compromises and sacrifices, and yet they hope for a future together after one tumble in the bed. Besides thinking the other is hot, they always think about their flaws. How can they expect to have a better relationship than the first time?

They DO end up making compromises and sacrifices, but like the first time around, it isn’t concerted. They just make decisions by themselves and hope that the other will go along with them. I admit, they have a couple of cute domestic scenes together, but they also highlight that they can’t function alone anyway, so why not being helpless together? Failing at the romance is the worst fail for a romance novel.

You know what I was interested in? Their families’ financial and legal troubles, and how they affect them. Not the technicalities, but how they hid them from Blaire, and how Blaire wasn’t interested in understanding what happened and avoided the subject altogether; why Jasper’s family thought little of him and used him; what the link was between the Leightons and the Flints… In other words, everything that was only sketched. A couple of phone calls, some miraculous resolution, and voila.

Thare are some interesting relationships in the story, and they aren’t romantic. Jasper’s rivalry with Bryce was nicely developped, as well as Blaire and Avery’s friendship. And of course, Blaire and the horses. Though there was some hockey thrown in there, the book had more dressage than skating. That may have been the most original thing in this story.

I feel like this book missed its goal. Too bad.

5 star Review Delayed Penalty (Scoring #7) by Jami Davenport

From the first chapter I was drawn into the story that Ms. Davenport wove about Jasper "Caveman" Flint and his ex wife Blaire. It was a great addition to the Scoring series and one of my favorites.
Imagine your shock if you suddenly found out that the divorce you thought went through, didn’t and you are still married. That’s the position that both Jasper and Blaire find themselves in.
Although the seventh book in the series it can be read as a stand alone. I really liked both Jasper and Blaire and it was entertaining to watch their relationship as they re-connected. Both have been hurt by the past but they were young and have grown a lot since they parted. If they can confront the past, talk and really listen to one another then they have a fighting chance . Their journey had it’s up and downs but it was well worth it.
This is a well written second chance at love story, romantic and steamy. It’s about taking a chance, learning to communicate and re kindling love.

This series gets better with every book and Delayed Penalty (Scoring #7) is the perfect addition to this fantastic hockey series. This may be book 7 but it can certainly be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone but I do believe one book in the Scoring Series will never be enough and you will want to read the previous books and catch up with the rest of the teammates. This is Jasper “Caveman” Flint and his ex wife Blair’s story and boy do they have a tale to tell. Imagine finding out you were still married, that the divorce you filed a few years ago never went through, well that’s the position Blair and Jasper find themselves . But this journey is not just about the shock of still being married, this is about realising you never really got over her and when you find out she is in trouble you do what you always do and that’s step up and protect her. If this couple can honestly sit and talk it out they stand a good chance at happiness but will the past be to painful to build a future…..
Delayed Penalty has all the feels, I swooned, I sighed, I smiled and I held my breath as I joined this couple on their journey, it was never going to be easy but true love very rarely is. So I guess all I need to say is please one this gem, you won’t be disappointed.

This is part of a series, I think but I have not read any of them but I have read previous series by the author. I found this book easy to follow as a stand alone story.

Its a second chance at love for two people, Blaire and Jasper/Caveman who grew up together but whose passions split them up and destroyed their very young marriage at age 19. Six years later Blaire comes back to ask for a divorce and finds herself trapped in Seattle with no money and nowhere to stay and she has to ask Jasper for help.

I loved this story so much one reason is because we get to see Blaire and Jasper interact with some older characters and I absolutely adored that. We get some good time with Isaac, Avery and even Samantha.

Blaire is a show horse rider until her horses are possessed by the government and she has no money, no job, no car and no home. I loved that Jasper helps her find a job. When Blaire's everything is taken from her she gets a job when she thinks she has no real skills to get a job and she excels at that job so much that she ends up getting more job opps. This book was so awesome because I loved watching Blaire get so strong and realize that she didn't need her family money and she can still have her passion for horses. It was a total honor reading this story and meeting Blaire and seeing her realise how awesome she really is.

As to the romance, I also adored it. Jasper is always there for Blaire and these two are so different but they also are fighters and I loved watching them be there for each other. I also loved how Isaac tries to show Jasper that the problem was never their passions but rather it was their need to be the star and their immaturity was the issue and they can grow up and change and even share each others passions.

I absolutely adored this book so much. I think it might be my top favorite that the author has ever written. I loved how it took new characters and we got to see them with the older character's that I watched fall in love from other series.

I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Delayed Penalty was the seventh book in the Scoring series by Jami Davenport. The series was an extension of her Seattle Sockeyes hockey series but could be read as a stand-alone.

Jasper “Caveman aka Cave” Flint earned his nickname through his uncultured mannerisms. His team thought he was a poor country boy that came to his own in the NHL. He preferred it that way and lived up to his name at every possible moment. And all was well until his ex wife showed up after seven years of silence.

Blair Leighton was a world class dressage rider. She was cultured, refined and fortunate her family had the affluence to support her sport and career choice. She came to Seattle to see her not so ex husband in person so she could get the divorce they both thought they already had years earlier. Oops.

Davenport wove a fun and twisted tale. Apparently Cave was not the country bumpkin he chose to portray. Although to his defense, he had cut ties from his wealthy snobbish unethical family long ago. Unfortunately, the past doesn’t always stay hidden. Davenport took us through the backstory, the conflict on how Blair and Cave separated, and the burning hot chemistry that never truly died. Simultaneously, we were graced with hockey dynamics and horse barns. Who knew they could coexist?

In the end, it was a quick, entertaining and “good feels” read for a second chance at true love. Davenport also set the stage for the cocky annoying rookie story up next for Bryce in Slapshot. It has promise to be explosive and I can’t wait!

Jasper and Blaire were a pair! They both came from dishonest rich families with Jasper cutting ties with his family when he graduated high school. The two married when they were 19 but they were both selfish people. Jasper spent all his time on hockey and Blaire spent all her time with horses. How shocked Jasper had to be when Blaire comes to him in Seattle six years after their divorce to tell him they weren’t divorced since the papers were never filed. Jasper had been a wild thing all these years and with many women, now he felt terrible as he would never cheat. I liked that Jasper let Blaire stay at his condo as her family’s money was frozen and she had no where to go and no money. I was proud of Blaire taking control of her life and getting a job at the barn where Jasper’s captain’s wife worked. The two had so many issues to work through and you never knew if they were on or off. I loved the book and strongly encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.

Jasper is a professional hockey player whose past becomes his present when the woman he loved as a teenager resurfaces in his life advising him that instead of being divorced they are still married. He intends to sign the papers so they can both move forward with their lives until she needs help, and he can’t leave her to face the situation alone.

Blaire has spent the last six years focusing on her career and her horses until her life is turned upside down both personally and professionally. What was supposed to be a quick reunion with her ex turns into so much more as it forces them to face the past and what drove them apart.

This is a story of second chances as the love that Jasper and Blaire shared wasn’t the problem, but they weren’t prepared for the challenges they were facing. Time and maturity allow them to realize how special the relationship they shared was and what they were willing to do to reclaim it.

Delayed Penalty is the seventh book in Jami Davenport's Scoring series and it was a good one.

Jasper (Caveman) Flint and his high school sweetheart, Blaire, married and then subsequently divorced when their passions, his for hockey and hers for horses, began to drive them apart. There were other issues as well, but going their separate ways was the decision made. Six years after their divorce should have been final, Blaire shows up in Seattle asking Jasper to sign the divorce papers as they didn't get filed as they should have.

When Blaire is faced with a zero balance in her bank account and no way to leave Seattle, she calls the only person she knows in town - her soon-to-be ex husband. Jasper helps her begin to pick up the pieces and Blaire begins to learn that she has more skills, and enjoys more things, than just horses. The question is, will all of this time they are spending together bring them back together and remind them of why they worked in the first place?

There was so much to enjoy about this book! I loved that we got to visit with other characters from this series (and previous books) and the romance that rekindled between Blaire and Jasper was so wonderful. Sometimes you have to grow, change and evolve to get to the place (or back to the place) where you belong.

Delayed Penalty is the seventh in the Seattle Sockeyes series by Jami Davenport. All stories are standalones.

Jasper, aka Caveman, has his hockey world upended when his not quite ex-wife suddenly reappears. That's right, he's still married, just like in Sweet Home Alabama. Blair has come to inform him of their predicament and get a quickie divorce, except Seattle has a mandatory 90 day waiting period. Resigned to stick around until the papers are filed, correctly this time, Blair heads to a hotel, only to have her world upended as well. She's no longer a rich girl! She's got to get a job (for the first time in her life) and she's sleeping on Jasper's couch! As these two get to know each other again, they come to realize they might not have known each other the first time around and there's far more to lose now.

This story was part second chance romance, part forced proximity and part enemies to lovers. While I did like the majority of the book, both characters were spoiled and selfish, at least 75% of the book. Even the team chemistry, which is usually one of the these I love the most about hockey books, seemed lacking to me. Otherwise, I loved the story and will enjoy catching up with the ones I've missed from the series!

“Delayed Penalty” was a great story about second chances, communication and not giving up on what you want for your future.

Jasper has a reputation of being a caveman on and off the ice. He lives for hockey and women. But when his ex-wife, Blaire, comes to Seattle to let him know they aren’t actually divorced, his world is turned upside down. Old feelings that both thought were long gone come back to the surface.

Jasper and Blaire were a passionate couple and I loved their story. There was so much in their past that they both held against each other and some of it was for good reason. Both were young in their pasts and being separated did them both good. I loved how career driven the two were. Jasper is one of the best hockey players in the league and Blaire was one the best horse dressage masters. I had never read a book with that as a career and that was one of my favorite things about Blaire. Jasper is a grumpy, messy delight and one of my favorite Sockeyes now. I loved the little easter egg hint we get for the next book and I can’t wait to read what happens.

Jami Davenport has a game-winner with DELAYED PENALTY (Scoring #7). In this story, Jasper “Caveman” Flint has his teammates fooled about his upbringing and family that he no longer associates with.
Then his ex-wife, Blaire Leighton, comes to town, informing him that their divorce papers were never filed properly, and they are still married. After being reunited, they are not sure they want to be divorced.

Jami Davenport does a great job with this story. I love the characters. Jasper and Blaire come from wealthy families that do business together. They married when they were young and were both a bit selfish at the time. They were both angry about being ignored for the other's career: Jasper playing hockey and Blaire a world-class dressage rider. They grew up a lot in this novel. They do some soul searching in this story. They have baggage do deal with their families. Plus, the team finds out they didn’t know a lot about Jasper. There is never a dull moment in the story.

DELAYED PENALTY is a perfect fit in the Scoring series. I love how much Avery and Ice (MELTING ICE, Seattle Sockeyes Hockey #3) are involved in this story. I’m looking forward to Bryce Wilcox’s and Tia’s story next, SLAPSHOT. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Jasper and Blair married when they were 19. They both were very young, very selfish and didn't know how to work to make their marriage work. They were both jealous of each others chosen careers and frankly needed to grow up. They split thinking their divorce was finalized and find out 6 years later that it was never filed.

Blair shows up to explain the situation to Jasper and get the divorce issue straightened out. Then Blair's world falls apart because of her families shady dealings. Then Jasper's world falls apart because of his family's shady dealings as well. He has been disowned by his family and they, behind his back, implicated him.

Blair and Jasper hang on to each other, learn that maybe they were those selfish rich kids of long ago were wrong. They do love each other and can make concessions to each other in order to live happily ever after.

Another great installment from Jamie! I never want this series to end! This can be read as a standalone but it would be much better if you read the series and get the backstory of some of the characters!

Jasper “Caveman” Flint, a NHL star for the Seattle Sockeyes, thought he was dreaming when he got a phone call in the middle of the night from his ex wife Blair. It had been six years since he’d heard from her. Not since their divorce!
Imagine Blair’s dismay, the protected “princess” of the wealthy Long Island Leighton family, when her credit card and debit cards were declined! The only reason she was in Seattle was to see her ex husband, Jasper, and get him to sign the divorce papers! That’s right, they aren’t really divorced like they thought! It seems that a junior associate failed to file the final decree! Now she’s stuck in Seattle with nowhere to stay. The only person she knows is Jasper! Will he help her?
An intriguing story about two people who are thrown together by circumstances. Have they matured? Can they get past former problems and get a second chance?
As always Jami Davenport scores a goal with Delayed Penalty!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Who doesn’t love a romance with a second chance. Jami Davenport gives us that with Delayed Penalty.
Jasper Flint is a star hockey player with The Sockeyes, a fun guy who loves to hangout with his team and also divorced or so he thought until his “ex” shows up and turns his life into a tailspin.
Blair Leighton is a socialite who loves her family and her horses but when she finds out her life really isn’t what she thought she needs to go make it right but can all the years that past correct it or can it change it for the better.
The chemistry between Jasper & Blair was never an issue but their views are still their obstacle can the two of them overcome them or will history repeat itself. You can’t help hope that the two of them will some how compromise and find an answer that can lead them back to a HEA.

Great second chance romance that will give you all the feels! 5 hot hockey stars for this one!
Blair has just found out that her divorce to Jasper was never filed, meaning they are still married.
She heads to Seattle to get it done as soon as possible, but when they see each other, sparks fly like they always did when they were together. When she finds out there's a ninety day waiting period before they can complete the divorce, she's stuck there. Then her family makes headlines, having their accounts frozen pending an investigation, she's left penniless, and asks Jasper if she can crash on his couch. She can handle the temptation she's sure of it, after all, he never supported her in her career with horses, it's what drove them apart, his world revolved around hockey, hers around her horses.
I enjoyed this story so much! Don't miss out on a great book, grab this one asap!

Is love better the second time around?

Hockey player Jasper (Caveman) Flint never thought he would see his ex-wife again after their bruising divorce when they were young, but he was surprised when Blaire showed up in Seattle to tell him that they were still married.

Blaire Leighton had thrown all her energy and family money into her horses after her divorce from Jasper. But now the family money is being frozen, and she needs a place to stay while their divorce is finalized because she doesn’t have any money. Could she ask the only person she knows in Seattle?

I love second chance romances because Jasper and Blaire needed the time to grow and maybe fall in love again with their first love.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author and Elle Woods PR. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a great 2nd chance at romance story. Jasper and Blaire were married when they were little more than teenagers and divorced quickly, or so they thought. Fast forward some years and Jasper is a seasoned hockey player and gets the shock of his life when Blaire turns up unexpectedly and delivers the bombshell that they are still, in fact, married. That’s not the only bombshell she discovers and she suddenly finds herself penniless and homeless. Jasper offers her a place to stay but there is still an attraction between them that needs to be explored. I really enjoyed this story, it had quite a few twists which just made it even better, lovely story.

I received an ARC and these are my thoughts.

Enjoyable second chance read!!

This was a good read, the writing flowed really well. I had a hard time putting it down as I wanted to see how it ended. There were twists that I wasn't expecting. Jasper and Blaire were both a work in progress, they both needed to grow up in different ways, and think of others. I really enjoyed their journey to being their best, and the friends they made along the way!

Delayed Penalty is a thrilling tale of second chances and determination that targets the heart from the very first page. Jasper and Blaire refuse to be vulnerable when it comes to the history they share. Through the eyes of heartache, Davenport reveals a strength of emotion that encompasses the soul from start to finish.

This is the 7th in the Seattle Sockeye Scoring series. The story is Jasper "Caveman" and Blaire. This might be one of my favorites in this series, as the charcters were fun and had the opportunity to grow through challenges. I almost gave it a 5 star, but I couldn't get over Blaire's relationship with her own family. Without spoilers, she doesn't respond to them in a manner that acknowledges and holds them accountable for their bad behavior. Overall good read.

Jasper and Blair married young but divorced because they were unwilling to compromise in their quest for their own dreams. Six years later, Jasper is hockey player for the Seattle Sockeyes who has a reputation of being a caveman on and off the field. Blaire is a world class dressage rider who has the wealth of her family backing her. Blaire comes to Seattle when she learns that her divorce from Jasper was never finalized. Jasper is shocked to see Blaire. When trying to check into a hotel, Blaire's credit cards are declined, but she is unable to reach anyone in her family. Jasper lets Blaire stay his place with the promise that she will be gone when he gets back from a road trip. Blaire learns her family is in trouble because of some shady business dealings and has had all their assets frozen. Blaire knows she needs to find a job and move out of Jasper's condo before she gives into her feelings for Jasper. Jasper is relieved and conflicted when Blaire moves out after finding a job and a place to live. Blaire and Jasper can't keep their hands off each other and agree to enjoy each other until the divorce is final. Can Blaire and Jasper keep their true feelings from each other? How will the team react when they learn Jasper's secret? How will Jasper react when he gets the divorce papers? What will Blaire do when she if offered a great opportunity she shouldn't pass up? Can Jasper grovel enough to win Blaire back? I loved Delayed Penalty by Jami Davenport. Blaire and Jasper are a great couple who learn that they both can their dreams while learning that communication and appreciation of the other's dreams is key. I would highly recommend getting Delayed Penalty and the other books in The Scoring Series. I received an ARC copy of this book, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

Jasper Flint has a reputation that has given him the nickname Caveman because his 2 favorite things are playing hockey for the Seattle Sockeyes and women. Everyone believes that he came from not the greatest upbringing, but nothing could be farther from the truth. He’s hidden his true family background well, along with the fact he had been married to Blaire Leighton, family friend, high school sweetheart. So imagine his surprise when Blaire tells him that their divorce was never finalized, so they are still legally married.

Blaire Leighton comes from a family of wealth, all she had to concentrate on was horses and competition. She was even considered for the Olympic team and had a champion horse. It seemed almost fairy tale until it all came crashing down, first finding out she was still married to Jasper and the second when all of a sudden, her bank accounts were closed, credit cards canceled, horses seized and she had nowhere to go.

Jasper felt bad and offered her a place to stay until she could get settled in and things worked out. What they didn’t imagine was the connection they had 6 years ago when there were married was in fact still there. Now the question is can their work out their petty differences before the divorce will actually be final or will they go back to their own worlds alone.

Delayed Penalty is part of the Seattle Sockeyes series by Jami Davenport. I am going to admit the first chapter or two I just couldn’t get into it. It all seemed too much. But as the plot line progressed so did my interest and I enjoyed it. Friendships were made, dreams realized when there were a few compromises. There was some hockey in it, not as much as others but that’s okay too. It is definitely one to add to your reading list.

Seattle Sockeyes, The Scoring Series # 7

Jasper "Caveman" Flint plays for the NHL Seattle Sockeyes hockey team and is known as the party boy, avoiding drama and conflict and just living in the moment. After winning their preseason game he and some of his teammates were celebrating at the bar and he is shocked when a woman walks in and it's his "ex-wife" Blaire Leighton who he hasn't seen in six years.
Blaire Leighton is a world class horse dressage rider and was working toward showing at the Olympics. Both of them came from money with Jasper turning his back on his family at 18 but Blaire was still the Princess in hers. Both had their own things going on and wouldn't give time to the other so they divorced or so they thought. She's here to get him to sign the divorce papers that fell through the cracks and weren't finalized. None of his teammates are aware of his background and he'd like to keep it that way. After briefly talking at the bar he leaves and when she goes to use her credit cards, finds out they have been frozen. She has no one else to call, so Jasper comes to her rescue. She ends up sleeping on his couch until she can get a job and move out.

Jasper and Blaire both come from wealth families in Long Island, NY. They were married young and I don't think either side was happy. They both were driven towards their careers and they divorced. Or did they?

Six years later, Blaire travels to Seattle to meet with Jasper. They haven't spoken in all this time and as Blaire's grandfather is setting up her trust fund, they find out that the paperwork was never filed for Blaire and Jasper's divorce and that they're still married. Blaire sees Jasper and tells him this. He's shocked! He's willing to sign the papers and do whatever's needed to get this divorce completed but now they find out that they have to wait 90 days. No problem.

Unfortunately, Blaire's family has been involved in some shady deals and all of their assets are frozen, including Blaires. Now she's in Seattle with no money and nowhere to go. So, she's calls Jasper to help. He feels bad and helps her out.

It seems these two still have feelings for each other but hold a lot of resentment about everything that went wrong the first time. Can they overcome their differences? Can they put their past behind them? This isn't a smooth road and their families try and wreak havoc on them.

I really enjoyed this read especially since there was a very career oriented female character trying her best to accomplish her goals while supporting her husband.

A great addition to this series!

This second chance romance will grab your attention from the first chapter and take you in one crazy emotional ride. Blaire and Jasper were married young and both were too spoiled and selfish to consider what was important.

Finding out that their divorce was never finalized is a shock to both Blaire and Jasper. Finding out all of her family’s considerable assets were seized or frozen by the government is the next shock. Having nowhere to go and finding herself having to sleep on her not quite ex-husband’s couch…that’s just the opening for hormones, continued attraction and long buried love to hit the reboot button on their relationship.

I’ve read several of Jami Davenport’s books and they are always entertaining, being great characters to life and allow us to see some longtime favorites again; however, this book is one of if not the best book Jami has written. I loved experiencing the emotional journey of this story since we get two alternating POVs, and wow do Jasper and Blaire have emotions, old hurts, fears and hope to share with readers.

Loved this book so much! I’m eager to read Bryce’s book and the next series set in Portland looks exciting.

I received an ARC free from the author and Elle Woods PR; and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Do you ever get over your first love? In the case of Cave and Blaire, the answer is undoubtedly no. Delayed Penalty brings us the story of Cave, a player for the Sockeyes who’s carrying a few secrets from his teammates. When his supposedly ex-wife shows up to tell him they are still married they both realize that they still have strong feelings for each other. Can they overcome the same obstacles to their relationship that broke them apart years ago? I really enjoyed how the author didn’t make this a pat “of course we can” answer. Though the characters are no longer the young inexperienced teenagers they were when first married and separated, sometimes it takes someone else opening your eyes for you to see yourself clearly. Cave gets this through his supportive teammates, which allows him to really grow as a person. This couple really tackles the difficult thoughts and decisions that “sometimes loving someone isn’t what will make it all work”. Of course, being a Jami Davenport romance we get our HEA, but with a lot of soul searching from both characters. Welcome back to the world of the Seattle Sockeye’s. Also, the author did a great job of setting up our next fated couple! Can’t wait!

Jasper and Blaire were high school sweethearts who ended up getting married and divorced. He has kept that part of himself hidden and now has the reputation as a caveman. When Blaire finds him and tells him they are still legally married old feeling surface, but so do old resentments.
I loved the honesty between the couple, but wish they would have communicated better at times. Watching them realize that they never stopped loving each other was nice and I especially liked how Jasper changed his ways once he found out he was still married. Blaire was very privileged, until she wasn’t. But she learned quickly how to do what needed to be done.
The interactions and advice given by Ice and the women was spot on and done in a way that had both Jasper and Blaire looking deep into themselves to figure out if the relationship was worth fighting for. I loved this second chance romance and can’t wait to see what Ms. Davenport comes up with next.
I highly recommend this series and especially this book. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review. Thank you Elle Woods PR for the ARC.
