It just had to be dragons this time...Vola, Talon, and the others may have gotten rid of Inga, but there's an even bigger bad guy out there stealing magic out of the land and its people. Luckily the Dagger Princess has a lead, and now the team's headed to Firewatch, home of the great slumbering dragons. Just like the one that killed Talon's pack so long ago. Talon might not be interested in revenge but she's determined to keep her new family from meeting the same fate as her old one. However, that's going to be harder than usual. Someone is draining the magic out of the land itself, leaving dead spots in the desert. Maybe a big bad someone. Can Vola, Talon, and the others track down the magic thief before whoever it is wakes the dragons? Failure is not an option when cranky fire-breathers can cause the end of the world...

(This is an ARC review.) I really liked this fifth book in the series! I felt like this book rode the waves of several plotlines and character developments that had been building throughout the series, and it all built to a very emotionally harrowing climax and then satisfying conclusion. The flow was interrupted a couple of times by long-winded conversations about moral issues, but even those didn’t detract from an overall enjoyable storyline. The book built up to a “twist” that was pretty easy to see coming, but it was actually believable and a delight to see it as a reader before the characters, so I don’t count that against them. The resolution of this one sets up the next and final book in the series, and I’ll be looking forward to the conclusion!
A QUILIFIED human proofreader/editor needs to fix the few but distracting errors in this book, such as Talon's name in place of another character's name, and quotes in the wrong places and needed paragraph breaks. Please don't let this issue ruin a fantastic series, giving others a reason not to read it!
It continues to be a perfectly pleasant series, though the formula is beginning to wear a little bit. I could personally use a little more surprises, but I understand things are wrapping up and I'm looking forward to the last book.
I really have enjoyed this series thus far. Kindle Unlimited had it available so I decided to give it a try. I feel like people who don't play RPGs or table top games like D&D may miss out on some of the humor though.
