Dragon King #4

Scales of Change

Rate this book
Change is coming, one scale at a time. Raiden’s eyes were opened to the horrors that lay beyond the Sixth Realm. Now he is pushing for change for all the realms, for both human and dragonkind alike. The support Raiden hopes for doesn’t come, but the weight of what is happening isn’t something he can let go. With Egan at his side, Raiden finds the strength he needs and leaves his home once again. Only this time he doesn’t know if the crown will still be waiting for him when he returns. Whatever the cost, he is willing to see it through. Egan still bears scars, seen and unseen, but the one person he can always lean on is Raiden. Raiden is his rock, his anchor, and he will do anything to support him through Raiden’s most difficult trials. Even if it means leaving behind his home and his family, as the two of them face the unknown together. With dragons for guards, Raiden and Egan search the realms for allies to march with them in a War of the Realms. Whatever the future brings, Raiden and Egan will face it together, always.

I stayed as solid as I could for him, which may not have been rock solid, but enough that he could lean on me and I would hold him up. Even if we wavered, even if we shifted, I held him. I would not let him fall.

4.5 stars!

I cannot believe that this was the last book of the Dragon King series! It was so bittersweet to finally read the conclusion of Raiden and Egan's story and to see how much both of them have changed and grown throughout the series. Debbie really did not hold back on this finale as we follow both Raiden and Egan as they fight for a future they can be proud of.

There was so much transformation and struggle in this novel, and I absolutely loved watching Raiden and Egan gain confidence in themselves as they slowly flourished in their new roles. There were so many sweet moments of love and support between these two, and I'm so sad to say goodbye to these characters that I've come to love so much ♡

Happy new release to the final book in this delightful, joyous series!

I absolutely love this series. It's full of love and acceptance, finding found family, blood family being devoted to you, and of first love and joy. I think when there can be so much pain and angst for queer youth, it's so good to get something that is uplifting and joyous.

This series builds from one book to the next, so I definitely am telling you to read in order. Raiden and Egan have grown so much since the first book, and now the two of them are so sure of each other and themselves as young men. Now Raiden has something to truly stand up and fight for, after seeing how Egan and the other dragons were treated. I love that he stood up for that, for himself and for the future of his partner.

I took my time reading this, mostly because I didn't want this series to be over! What a lovely series and one that I highly recommend.

Debbie has a new NA pen name and I also encourage you to check out her upcoming releases from that author!

I really loved this series. Following the journey of Raiden, becoming the dragon king and of course his beloved dragon Egan was a joy to read.
I must admit that I was less than thrilled that another war was looming in the last part of the series.
However, as this is a YA book I was quite sure it wouldn't take too much space in the book.
There were other surprises, new dragons discovered and a new family found, lots of things happening, that never let the story get dull.
The love of those two was unwavering, for some it might be a little too much, too sweet or maybe too boring without any drama between the main characters, but I didn't mind.
I am certainly not a YA reader, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series and I highly recommend it for readers of all ages, if you are looking for something light and almost angst free, this is a great choice. 4 stars for me.

What an absolutely amazing end to a series! Scales of change picks up where we left off. The new queen of the fifth realm is prepping to cause havoc and Raider wants to put an end to the tyranny but when his own realm is hesitant, he sets off with Egan to get help from the realms aligned with the sixth. Along the way the two have to deal with the lingering trauma from Egan's capture. The journey really allows Raider to blossom into the ruler he's meant to be, with his love at his side. Together, they with the other dragons, are able to convince other roles to help. There’s even a non-binary / gender neutral (it's not specified which one) ruler which is amazing. Egan also seems to come into his own as a dragon, discovering new things he can do, as well as what the realms used to be like.
Scales of change also brings is to the prophecy of the new dragon king. And honestly, it was such a great ending. Though there was a twist you could see coming from a mile away
But in the end, this was a brilliant story with a well wrapped up storyline.

Raider and Egan have a great arc, with a very happy ending. And who doesn't love a happy ending?

I'm really excited to see more from the author if this series is anything to go by. The world building and characters were brilliant. It's just great to read. And I could not be happier with this ending.

Such a fabulous ending to this fantasy m/m dragon and prince romance!

This was such a satisfying and heartwarming ending to this cuddly series! Egan and Raiden continue to warm my heart, as they grow even closer, physically and emotionally.

I love all the new characters introduced, and the twist with the secret forest was really enjoyable. A little cheesy, but fully enjoyable, this is a series I will definitely re-read when I'm in the mood for fluffy dragon boys.

Definitely recommend this series!!

Hands down my FAVORITE book in this series. Debbie’s descriptive, sweet, passionate storytelling was in full force for this conclusion to Raiden and Egan’s thrilling romance!

𝒥𝑜𝓎 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝒽𝑜𝓅𝑒 𝓇𝒶𝒹𝒾𝒶𝓉𝑒𝒹 𝓉𝒽𝓇𝑜𝓊𝑔𝒽 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝒶𝓇𝑒𝒶. 𝐼𝓉 𝓌𝒶𝓈 𝓅𝒶𝓁𝓅𝒶𝒷𝓁𝑒; 𝐼 𝒸𝑜𝓊𝓁𝒹 𝓈𝓂𝑒𝓁𝓁 𝒾𝓉, 𝓉𝒶𝓈𝓉𝑒 𝒾𝓉, 𝒻𝑒𝑒𝓁 𝒾𝓉 𝒾𝓃 𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓇𝓎 𝓅𝒶𝓇𝓉 𝑜𝒻 𝓂𝑒. 𝒜 𝒻𝓁𝑜𝓌𝑒𝓇 𝒷𝓁𝑜𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝒾𝓃 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝒹𝑒𝓈𝑒𝓇𝓉, 𝓁𝒾𝒻𝑒 𝓅𝒾𝑒𝓇𝒸𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝓉𝒽𝓇𝑜𝓊𝑔𝒽 𝒹𝑒𝓈𝑜𝓁𝒶𝓉𝒾𝑜𝓃.

So many things happened during this book. Raiden growing into a leader, Egan acknowledging his worth, realms marching toward war, uncovering hidden truths, fulfilling destiny. It built from the first page, emotions sprinkled across each page emphasizing the epic feel of everything going on. I had so many favorite scenes. I loved all the side characters. And that epilogue? PERFECT. 😭😍

What a beautiful way to end a debut series that is a 100% feel good, clean romance. My heart soared in every book and despite all the challenges Raiden, Egan, and all of their family and friend and realm faced on this long journey, this series just made me…happy.

Ok I just finished “Scales of Change ” by Debbie McQueen and OMG!! This book was amazing! I don’t know what to do now! I kind of want to go back to the first book and reread all the way through or should I start another book? I have so many I haven’t read! I am just so confused on what to do now!!

I totally and completely loved this book with my whole heart. My cheeks hurt from smiling and it just made me so damn happy. Not going to lie, I spent the entire day with my nose buried in my Kindle, eagerly tapping the pages and ignoring life, from page one until the end.

This needs to go right to the top of your TBR pile. It is MAGIC. This is the best one I've ever read. The characters are amazing throughout and the story progresses in a wonderfully meaningful way. Ends with a HEA that is so, so satisfying.

My heart beat's been at high speed all through the book and I can't thank Debbie Mcqueen enough for the amazing, touching and emotional experience she's offered me.”.

Feliz Lectura!

“With Egan at my side, I felt as if there was nothing I couldn’t face, no enemy that couldn’t be stopped. With him, I felt like I could be the king I was always afraid to be.”

Egan and Raiden have returned from the Fifth Realm and brought the dragons that were held captive with Egan along with them. After having seen what has been going on in the Fifth Realm and what the dragons had been through, he knows that he has to do something to change the way things have been. Together Raiden and Egan set out on a journey to change the future for both humans and dragons alike.

This was such an incredible end to this series and Debbie didn’t hold anything back! The entire book was full of emotion, hope, courage, trust and bravery. I loved seeing Raiden stand up for what he believes is right doing what it takes to make his vision for the future come to fruition. And seeing Egan confront the trauma that he went through and refusing to let it dictate his future was awe-inspiring. The love and trust that Raiden and Egan have for each other is incredible. They each lift the other up when needed and help each other to grow their confidence in themselves. You can tell that this is a story all about love, acceptance, hope, and perseverance because it comes across throughout the entire book.

The last book in the series. The end of Raiden & Egan's story. It was both beautiful and sad.

There were things they still had to make it right, Raiden had to grow up to be the King he meant to be. This last book was mostly about Raiden and his fight, his plans for a better future for humen and dragons too. It was sometimes dry, but I was glad that Raiden and Egan finally slept together (off page). Love those two together.

The war and the ending was really good and well written, I enjoyed reading the book and I finished it with a big smile on my face. Althought the end scene was beautiful, it ended so abruptly, I wanted a few more pages with them.

This series was a really enjoyable and fun ride, I loved the world and the characters, the end is beautiful and just a perfect HEA. I recommend this series, it's a really good YA dragon fantasy/romance.

A Joyfully Jay review.

5 stars

This is the fourth and final book of an epic fantasy saga in the Dragon King series, and this review will likely have spoilers for previous stories.

The Dragon King series is an amazing set of books, and I will honestly say that I was nervous this final episode would not live up to the previous three. Those each reflected more personal battles for Raiden and Egan—overcoming their initial trepidations, becoming men and lovers, rescuing one another from smaller foes and battles. They all had some high stakes, but they were more locally isolated. This book brought the entirety of their world into conflict, good and just rulers versus greedy, grasping ones. And apathetic ones. We saw a new world where dragons lived in peace and harmony, and Raiden was not just the Prince of Dragons, but also a high ruler stepping into his destiny.

Follow your heart

Goosebumps, this book gave me so many goosebumps, feels, grins, cheers, swoons and love, all the love. It’s a bittersweet feeling reading the last book but what an amazing ride this series was. “With him, I could carry it. With him, I wouldn’t have to bear it alone. He would be the strength I needed when I didn’t have enough of my own.” It’s an incredible story of hope, bravery, courage, perseverance, trust and believing in yourself, even when you think the odds are against you. I love the families, the friendships, the wonder of this world, but most of all I love the bond between two very special people. Egan and Raiden sparked something in me from the very beginning and now that spark, like their love, burns brighter than the stars in the sky. A spectacular, moving, endearing series of true love, acceptance, and forging your own path.

Loved this series

I can't tell you how much I have loved this series, I know it's meant for YA, and I'm far from that. But, the way Debbie has written the characters and the world-building has been incredible.
The way the characters have had a very close relationship without too much detail, unlike adult books. It just gave you all the feel-goods without being sordid.

The world-building was written with such great description that I reckon I could draw a map of the realms.

I loved how Royal Fallon had they/them pronouns, it's an emotional series, and I would recommend it to people of all ages. I have now started on the novellas that go alongside this series, and I don't want this series to end.

I need to read more from this incredible writer.

This book was absolutely amazing! I'm so sad this is the last book but oh my god, it was so good. I laughed, I cried, my heart felt so happy and full. This series will always hold such a special place in my heart, for the fact that it was such a sweet, welcoming, accepting book. Not very often can you read an LGBTQ+ series and not have them have to explain themselves, or defend who they are. Everyone accepts and loves Raiden and Egan and I always get misty eyed thinking about, as someone who is part of that community. These two are among my favourite couples ever, and the plot line of the whole series is just amazing. Come on! It's an m/m romance with DRAGONS! There's literally only love for this book and I'm so glad I got to go on this journey!

What an amazing ending to a truly sweet and loving series
This book it’s packed with more adventure, action , love and i couldn’t be happier with the outcome
As sad as I am to see the series I think it was well written and gave a satisfying ending that leaves you content instead of begging for more which is how and ending should be that the characters accomplished all that they set out and more!!! I will definitely check out any and all books written by this author

Raiden, Egan and dragons together forever. This has been an amazing series and Debbie McQueen does not let up in this final volume. It is a story that will inspire you to stand up and try to make things right for everyone, accepting that there will be costs and sacrifices but also knowing that when you have those who love you standing up with you, you can win. This world and these characters have been our home for four books. I cannot wait to see what McQueen has for us next.

This was a fantastic ending to the series! Egan and Raiden have returned from the fifth realm. Raiden knows that something needs to change so he and Egan go on another journey to do that. This was such a fantastic ending to the whole story arch! The story will leave you with love and hope for the future. At times it felt realistic to me! I very easily binge read this as soon as I knew it released, just like the first three books. These are so easy and addictive to read, and the final book was a great conclusion to a great series. It continues straight off from the previous book and it is just as good. Raiden and Egan continue to grow, and the ending was almost bittersweet, because it was so happy though the end of their story. I don't really know what to say other than I really enjoyed this series, and please read it!

I cannot believe this series has come to an end. McQueen really is a genius. I'm going to miss these boys so much oh my gosh. If you have been following me and still haven't given book one a try... what are you doing? Read it now!

Sticking to the other reviews, I'm going to keep this spoiler free, but for those who have read it, a certain new family member destroyed me. I was praying for that to go the way it did and I'm so happy it did.

Honestly, I love this series, and a part of me is broken that it has ended.

Wow, oh wow
I absolutely loved reading this fourth and final book in Debbie McQueen's Dragon King series.

It has everything the first three books have and then some as well. Overall it was well written with a very satisfying HEA for the young prince and his Lord.

If you haven't yet read this series, I highly recommend it.

It's always sad to finish a series that has characters you love. Raiden and Egan have become a memorable couple. Their love was so pure and true, and I'm so glad they have they HEA. I enjoyed meeting new characters, and re-visiting old ones.

This was really an enjoyable YA series, and I look forward to what else McQueen has in store for us in the future.

A great ending to the Dragon King series!

I received a free audiobook from the author in exchange for a honest review!

This book was amazing! A great ending to the series, where all the loose ends were tied up, and characters find themselves and their true callings. I loved the revelation at the end! If you are debating listening to the audiobook- do it!! The narrator is amazing at capturing each and every characters voice, I am honestly in awe. All in all, 4.5 stars rounded up! Do not hesitate to start this series!

"With him, I could carry it. With him, I wouldn't have to bear it alone. He would be the strength I needed when I didn't have enough of my own."

This was a beautiful end to a beautiful story about two people whose love and connection surpassed everything they deemed wrong with their world. The acceptance that oozes from the pages (a kindle screen in my case) gives you hope for a better world even in our reality.

I read the book in one night. I would divide the book in three parts. First one gave me anxiety with the amount of wonder and excitement I felt for the characters and the developing story. The second gave me anxiety as I reluctantly flipped pages to avoid seeing what happens next. The third made me cry so much my cheeks felt raw. So yeah, I'd say this was a good reading experience.

I have cried to a few moments in the book, but the last three chapters broke me as I continuously CRIED until I finished the book. I bawled my eyes out and my cheeks are still wet. Raigan broke me. Debbie broke me.

RAIGAN FOREVER
