This guide has 7 helpful travel maps. Each provides a 4 day travel route (exception: Reykjavik – 3 days) with the sites to see and enjoy described. The maps are very clear.

The itineraries include notable waterfalls, gorges, lava formations, glacial rivers, basalt columns, whale and bird watching locations, World Heritage sites, unique farmsteads and more.

Not sure what is “hedonistic” about this guide. The thermal pools are described as perfect places “to take a break”, enjoy the northern lights, or “share the day’s unique experiences”. Food and drink are presented as “pleasure to enjoy”. One retreat is described in a way that is a bit closer to hedonism as “combining comfort and well being with elegance”, but in general, text belies the subtitle, presenting Iceland as relaxing, pleasurable and modest.

There are informative pages such as those devoted to native fish and fishing zones, volcanic activity, flora, geothermal energy, glaciers, “Daily Life in Reykjavik”, “Women in Iceland. Pioneers in Equality”, etc.

While you can see that Iceland is stunning, the photos on matte paper do not bring this out. The focus is so soft they sometimes look like watercolors. The 6 point (may be smaller) italic type in low contrast grey makes captions difficult to read.

This book is useful for the traveler. If you are limited by time, the small excursion routes are will be particularly helpful in planning how to best plan your time in Iceland.

Bod navyše za skvelé fotky a grafické spracovanie knihy. Obsahovo oceňujem mapky a zaujímavosti z celého územia, zároveň však kniha zostáva žiaľ pomerne povrchná a miestami plná klišé. Nebyť naozaj pekného a kvalitného vizuálneho spracovania, je to skôr priemerný bedeker.

Zo traag mogelijk... (En in mijn geval... Opnieuw en opnieuw.)

I'm trying to plan trip #3 to Iceland but I'm overwhelmed by all the things I want to do. We've done the ring road and I would do it again in a heartbeat but since we're NOT going in summer I know I need to focus on a region or two instead. This helped. I loved all the photos - especially that they weren't all necessarily the "instagram" shots with perfect sunny weather!

I have read this book 3 or 4 times. I just keep going back to it. It is a relatively new book but I have read it so many times already. This book is very informative with such delightful photos. Planning a future trip to Iceland and this book has been helpful in planning my trip. So well done!

V úvode nechýbajú v skratke zhrnuté historické okolnosti osídľovania prvými obyvateľmi a rozprávanie o samotnom vzniku ostrova.
