DON’T TALK. DON’T SCREAM. DON’T TRY TO ESCAPE.

Three years have passed since the harrowing events at Sablefall Farm, and
life in the town is slowly returning to normal. While those around them
begin to heal, Elaine and Harper secretly pursue ruthless vengeance against
those who wronged them.

When investigative journalist Lenny Grey is enlisted to hunt down the man
responsible for Elaine’s son’s murder eight years ago, he is drawn into a
world where innocence is a memory and the unspeakable waits beneath the
surface. A tip-off from a detective friend – following the grim discovery
of two dead boys, their deaths chillingly reminiscent of the earlier crime
– suggests the cases may be disturbingly intertwined. As the investigation
deepens, it becomes clear the horror they face is far more insidious than
they ever dared to suspect.

With another child now missing and the stakes rising ever higher, a fragile
alliance must track down and confront a depraved serial killer before he
strikes again. Justice and vengeance blur, and survival is anything but
certain.

My preferred genre is psychological thrillers. I love all the plotting involved in creating a story with twists, turns, and jaw-dropping moments. Some would say my writing is aimed more toward horror-thriller.
I love to read books by Stephen King, Mark Billingham, James Patterson, Dean Koontz, Jeffery Deaver, Val McDermid, Peter James, and Teresa Driscoll to mention a few.
I also love movies like Seven, The Shining, Misery, LA Confidential, Silence of the Lambs and almost everything from John Hughes in the 80s and early 90s. I was a huge Brat Pack fan. Tv shows include the likes of Silent Witness, Endeavour, Line of Duty, Luther, Vera, Breaking Bad, You, Game of Thrones, True Detective, Fargo, and similar.

Brilliant. I loved this book so much. A great follow on from The Mother of all Things but you could definitely read Godless Creatures without reading the first. Although, once you've read this book, you probably want to.
The writing and layout are perfect with each chapter being one of the four main characters in sequence making it easy to follow. The story flows really well.
It's very dark and chilling at times. If it was a movie I'd tell a squeamish person not to watch it alone.
A mother (Elaine) wants to find the killer of her son from a few years before and pays her former nemesis, an investigative reporter (Lenny) to track him down. When more children's bodies are discovered, he sets off with the help of a detective friend to find the child killer. As you can imagine, all does not go well.
Meanwhile, Elaine and her brother (Harper) a sort of anti-hero who is struggling with his previous crimes and childhood trauma continue murdering the people responsible for what happened to them when they were children.
It all boils down to whether four characters who have a terrible linked history can put aside their differences and join together to put a stop to a terrifying killer.
It's a story that, as I said is dark and also very gory at times, but along the way there is romance, sadness and a few brilliantly written comical moments that made me actually smile and even laugh.
I highly recommend both novels by this author.

Expect the unexpected...such clever writing!

Superb sequel to The Mother of All Things. The author cleverly takes the characters to another level as they adjust to life after the massacre at Sablefall Farm. Lenny, my favourite character, embarks on a mission to find Elaine’s sons’ killer and soon becomes embroiled in the hunt for the evil serial killer responsible. There are so many unexpected turn of events that you just don’t see coming, which makes such a refreshing change as I can usually predict exactly what’s coming next in most books! It’s hard to say what genre this book belongs to. Although graphic in places, calling it simply a horror/thriller just doesn’t do it justice. It really has everything and examines many aspects of what it means to be human. Thoroughly recommend!

The potential for evil is buried in all of us – but is it down to nature or nurture? This gripping psychological thriller is a tense page turner packed with twists and turns. Author Blake's writing flows easily and is a pleasure to read, despite the dark and chilling plot. Continuing the story begun in 'The Mother Of All Things', Elaine and her brother Liam are adults with a shocking past and horrific shared secrets. The pair have adapted to live 'normal' lives and form relationships, whilst quietly carrying out retribution on sadistic child abusers. But with just one more punishment to execute, things go horribly wrong. Meanwhile, Lenny Grey, the journalist who has never closed his case file on the kidnap and murder of Elaine's son eight years earlier, uncovers a new twist in the sinister chain of child abductions. The tension builds to an exciting climax with plenty of surprises in the highly satisfying resolution.
I found this powerful and thought provoking book hard to put down, and I'm still thinking about it days later. Blake's characterisation is so well done it made me wonder how he gained his insights into such damaged people, and I found myself rooting for them. I can't praise this book highly enough and would rate it 6 stars if I could!

Is a killer born or made???

Jesus! What a crazy, rollercoaster ride of emotions!
You'll find this sequel book to be as disturbing, vile, evil and totally unpredictable as the first...and just as un-put-a-down-able!
Actually, it does make me wonder how sick my own mind is having enjoyed ( I don't know if that's the right word!), such a horrific depraved piece of literature.
Great writing, brilliant storyline, and fantastic characters.
A conclusion of the first book, and possibly an ending for a next book??? Who knows?!
Would definitely recommend to those who like depraved, bloody, mindless horror, (apparently like me!). But be warned...Not for the faint of heart!!!

This was an excellent sequel to The Mother Of All Things, which elaborates on the horrific events of the past. It was filled with the evil that humans commit, but the question of whether those decisions are inherent or created by experience is explored. I think it can be both. Though does it depend on strength of character? Can the brain be retrained?

With power comes corruption, but does that corruption cause evil? Is it the 'entitled' whose arrogance allows evil choices? Or does it begin from cruel experiences? Can people change and decide to be 'good'? So many thought-provoking questions prompted by this story.

It was definitely a disturbing read yet was well-written (just a few typos and grammatical issues). It was also great to read from an English perspective.

Yes, a tense, suspenseful and fantastic psychological thriller with great characters and plot.

Highly recommended.

"Godless Creatures" is a dark yet gripping mystery thriller that blends chilling supernatural elements with the reality of horrific crimes against the innocent. It's the second installment in Blake's series of the same name that I found even more enjoyable than its predecessor. Granted, I had originally assumed the story would follow a vigilante-esque revenge plot; however, I became much more invested once the plot focused more on the hunt for the child killer. But like the previous novel, this one may be hard for some to stomach, especially during scenes depicting a child captive suffering abuse at the hands of his sadomasochistic kidnapper. There are plenty of graphic descriptions of murder, torture, and mutilation throughout the narrative as well, although to be transparent not every victim who suffered was blameless.

On another note, an intriguing central theme in this series has been how a cycle of violence and abuse can sometimes beget a "monster." Take "Harper" for instance. Yet strangely enough, I began to sympathize with Harper more and more in this sequel and truly appreciate his character growth. Although it might seem nearly impossible for him to have risen above the bloody and bleak path he paved for himself in the last book, Harper does get a redemption arc of sorts this time around. Instead of merely feeling that monstrous rage and a desperate desire to end it all, he finally begins to look forward to the possibility of a brighter future.

A new character has a lot to do with Harper's change of heart; however, it is Elaine who keeps him most grounded. I loved how though initially bound by their horrific childhood traumas, by this installment, Elaine and Harper's relationship has strengthened into a loving kindship in which they both would do anything to protect the other. Another relationship transformation I enjoyed was the one between Elaine and Lenny. Over time the two had formed a friendship built on trust and mutual respect. Interestingly enough, their partnership ends up being crucial in solving the grisly murders in the story.

One of my qualms with the first book was how frustrating and messy its final chapters had been during the infamous massacre. It wasn't just that it was gratuitous, but more that every character kept making incredibly stupid decisions which led to their deaths. Thankfully, this book's climax was action-packed without all the chaos and still left readers with a few memorably shocking reveals. (The only scene that had me questioning a character's choices occurred earlier on and involved a certain detective who decided to follow a dangerous lead by himself. )

Before finishing this novel, I had debated on whether I wanted to read the final book in the series since it doesn't follow Elaine (or "Harper") anymore. Yet "Godless Creatures" made me warm up to Lenny's character considerably and after what happened with him at the end, I'm interested to see where life takes him next. And if I get to see another intricate murder mystery solved, then that's a bonus!

Every bit as good as the first book. (Only vague spoilers)

Who would have thought the author could make us care about murderous psychopath, Harper Darmody. But the author most definitely succeeded. Such a satisfying, albeit sad, ending. I especially felt bad for Lenny. Poor guy didn't deserve what he got at all.

I only have a couple of notes. There was a handful of typos but not so many that it became distracting. Still could use a final polish. Same goes for the first book. Then there's chapter 20. The timeline jumped around quite a bit in the book but the events in chapter 20 just didn't seem to quite fit together with what had happened around it. The last confusing part is in chapter 24, where it says that Lenny was also reminded of the bus comparison. There was no other mention of buses. No comparison. I'm thinking this is something the author had taken out of the chapter and forgot to remove this reference to it.

In conclusion I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed both of these books and would highly recommend them to anyone who loves the genre of horror thrillers. Don't let the cheap price tags fool you, these books are awesome

Fantastic book and sequel.

I’ve witnessed a few reviews say this book works as both a stand alone and sequel and whilst I do agree, this book works so much better as a sequel.

The first book (Mother Of All Things) is worth reading as Godless Creatures has so many pay offs and little call backs that make you appreciate what you’ve read and currently are readings. The story feels complete here and this is a rare occasion where the sequel outdoes the first book.

Also I found the writing in this book to be very engrossing. Characters are extremely likeable and detestable which is always a major plus for me when reading a gripping story. But the stand out character is Harper. I won’t spoil anything but, what a fantastic written character. You feel like you’ve been apart of these characters lives for years and I found myself falling into this world again after 6 months between the last book without any issue. Again credit to the writing as the book does offer a small recap/ context in a way that jogs previous readers memories but would intrigue people who skipped the first book.

Must read for anyone who read the first book and for anyone who likes mysteries, crime or thrillers.

1. Don’t Talk
2. Don’t Scream
3. Don’t Try To Escape
The three rules that need to be followed to stay alive.

This book shows you how humans become godless creatures and how guilt can eat you alive.

We see this creation through the eyes of The Boy and the created through the eyes of a man drowning in guilt. Through those same eyes we can see how redemption is found and evil is born.

You can see how actions have consequences and how the present shapes the future.

Gabriel Blake has written an exciting and suspenseful sequel that will keep you on your toes the whole time.

3.5/5 ⭐️

Look this was not as good as “The Mother Of All Things” in my opinion. I wasn’t a huge fan of the revenge plot and would have preferred if it focused solely on the missing/murdered boys. It was entertaining tho and i couldn’t have predicted what was gonna happen. I’m going to read the third book in this series as i really have grown on lennys character and it seems the 3rd book is more from his perspective.

I really do enjoy the writing of this author i just think i would prefer to read their stand alone books to their linked series.

A must read

Brilliantly written, I won't give the plot away but I will say that this book and the one before it had me captivated from start to finish, an excellent plot and characters who are alarming but you can't help to fight their corner. Thank you for a great read. I found it extremely hard to stop reading.

Loved! Equally good as the first book. Twist and turns, yet all the puzzle pieces came together nicely without seeming too far stretched. This series makes you question whether killers are born or made
