The Purpose Handbook: A beginner's guide to figuring out what you're here to do

Rate this book
It’s Monday morning, 9am. How do you feel?

Imagine waking up to start another week. In a perfect world, how would you like to feel? Maybe you imagine feeling motivated and energized. Maybe you imagine starting your week with a sense of purpose, peace and intention.

The goal of this book is simple: to help you live with a sense of purpose. Part-manual, part-manifesto, this book is not a quick fix for happiness; it’s not a five-day plan promising a fast result. Instead, it’s a companion, your personal guide to navigating your own sense of purpose as it evolves throughout your life.

Eloise Skinner is an author, therapist and teacher. She’s also the founder of The Purpose Workshop, an agency helping clients to navigate their purpose and redesign their lives.

Eloise studied at Cambridge, trained at Oxford and practised as a corporate lawyer, but after some soul-searching (including a year training to be a monk!) she followed her passion into psychotherapy.

Above all, Eloise is driven by the idea of integration - the power of bringing together all aspects of work and life; to live fully, with intention, integrity and purpose.

I won this book on Goodreads.

If you are embarking on a new...whatever...in life, this book some some fantastic activities to review self in a multitude of ways.
Even if you only did one or two of these highly accessible suggestions, the guidance and the resulting product seem to be useful and easy to interpret into practical use.

I am a strong believer that everyone has their own purpose in life and every one of us has something to offer to the world, and The Purpose Handbook helps readers find out exactly what their purpose is.

By the use of exercises (and a free PDF workbook to those who would prefer it), I was able to take notes whilst reading this, and create my own personal development plan. Although this is written with a professional or career-minded individual in mind, the concepts discussed and introduced are adaptable, making this suitable for all situations.

There is a lot of information included in this handbook, hence why it took a while to digest, and I recommend having something close by to write on, either physically or digital as I doubt all the information will be absorbed in one sitting.

Thank you NetGalley and Practical Inspiration Publishing for a gifted copy of this book to review honestly and voluntarily. All opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed this book, it exceeded my expectations. Full of practical exercises and sound advice, I think many readers will get something useful out of it. I was genuinely excited at points as I began figuring out what my purpose in life is, something which has been bothering me for the last few years. The book encourages you to find a balance between doing something you love, that ideally helps others and is something that you can make a living from. The only negative I can think of is that some areas of the book seem aimed at a certain professional career focussed person which could be off-putting for someone who isn’t necessarily motivated by promotions at work or who has entrepreneurial aspirations. Saying that, it is written in an accessible way and the author’s warmth and passion shines through.

A wonderful coaching book, this is THE book which you need to read and go back to when ever you start feeling getting stuck on your life priorities and purpose. It is meant for both begineers as well as professionals who need guidance, their ivery own coach, to take them through the journey of refelcting on what iwas, what is and what do you want it to be. Helpful questions overall to cover your daily, weekly, monthly, yearly and decade plannings. This was an awesome book and the language was such that it always felt as am being coached and coaxed along to setup for suceess.
Definitely a book worth reading and to be on your shelf for guidance..
Thank you Netgalley for sharing this book with me for my unbiased opinion

SUCH a gorgeous and thoughtful book. There are so many empty, quick-fix promises out there, but Eloise Skinner offers an alternative: a modern-day pilgrimage to the heart of your own sense of meaning and purpose in the world.
If you have a young person in your life, if you ARE a young person, I can't think of a better guide to help push back against our superficial culture and focus on developing a truly healthy work/life/spirit balance.
The exercises are powerful, but be warned: reading this book properly will take time.
And that's a good thing.

I am an avid reader. Being a doctor, I am super busy and find less time to read. This is the only book that I managed to complete within 5 days. I really like the writer's style and it's just amazing. I am not gonna give any spoilers and ruin other's experience. Overall, this is a really good book and I highly recommend other people to read it at least once.

An insightful read that really breaks down your thoughts and knowledge. The value of the book simply does not justify the inherently value I have received from reading it. A definite recommendation!

Really interesting concept, and I love the journal prompts.
It really gets you thinking, and helps to put things into perspective.
At times it felt a little overwhelming, but overall this is a really innovative idea that I really enjoyed reading and taking part in.
