Pristella is minutes away from disaster, and Subaru is the only one who has any idea what's coming. Sirius, the Archibishop of Wrath, has an insidious power and is more than willing to use it to commit an act of terror in the name of love. To have any hope of saving the city's residents, Subaru will first need to figure out how to handle the shortest time limit Return by Death has ever given him. Will his powerful allies and newfound skills be enough to keep the Water Gate City safe from the catastrophe that's about to come knocking?
After a disastrous daily life of volume 16, we are basically thrown to the ground with how much dense the pressure of action has become in volume 17.
All in all the pace of Re:Zero returns to it's norm. I still have a few issues with plot convenience but compared to the previous installment - all is forgiven and forgotten.
Many new antagonists properly enter the stage and the old ones re-appear to bring the usual despair of the series.
Worthy of note is how Subaru's character (and not just his!) is still constantly maturing as the story progress and how natural that development is made to be. Round of applause for Nagatsuki-sensei in this regard, I have yet to read a work of fiction that would reach this level of finesse, not only in light novel medium.
When I saw the cover for this I had no clue what to think or feel, I mean look at her, she doesn't exactly look like a good person but she also looks freaking adorable as all hell, so what was - she's the Archbishop of Lust and shes' called Capella Emerada Lugnica. And she's terrifying in every aspect.
This Volume gets the action going massively and for the majority of it the cast are broken up and divided, with people being completely scattered and lost, characters are missing while others are fighting to protect people and revelations of the past are shown to be completely different than others would think, this I'd say is one of the lowest moments of the series so far, with how desperate everything gets and how utterly ruined people can be when fighting those far stronger than them.
But throughout it all, we're seeing the dvelopment of Subaru as the leader he's meant to be, it's his leadership and plans that...well they don't exactly succeed but a lot of people survive, at a cost - not gonna say what, read the books they're great - but it's a low point and there doesn't seem to be any major way out of it and we've not even got to the clock tower yet.
Damn these archbishops are like scum fr. I loved all of Garfiel and Mimis scenes and god Garfiel is just so good I feel so bad for him but hopefully he can get revenge though equally I want Wilhelm to be the one to beat Theresias zombie cause mans been through it.
Fantastic book as always ! Nothing slows down & makes you just wanna keep reading to see what happens, really wondering how everything is gonna play out & can’t wait for the next volume !
