I love reading parenting books that teaches me about the least significant part of parenting. How do you maintain a healthy relationship with reading with your child and encourage them to use the outdoors as their playground? I'm well-versed. How do you keep said child alive on the day to day? No idea.
Books about books are my favorite and I really enjoyed this one! I would recommend to any young parent that hopes their child inherits their love of reading.
This attractively designed book shares practical ideas for how parents can start a book club for their kids. It comes from the perspective of parents and their now-adult children who ran a successful book club from first grade to high school graduation, and their time-tested insight will be helpful for anyone trying to do something similar. The authors repeatedly note that they never expected the book club to last so long, and they encourage people to get started regardless what the longevity of their group will be.
The book includes lots of practical advice for how to run a book club, what kinds of activities to have, how to pivot during different stages of life, how to handle varying reading levels within the group, and so on. This is very comprehensive, and the final portion of the book includes a log of everything the book club read, plus other recommended reading lists. I would recommend this to parents and teens who are interested in starting a book club, and to anyone who is interested in the concept and wants some good reading recommendations.
I wasn’t quite the target audience for this book, since it’s written for parents of kids who can read for themselves and who want to start an actual organized book club. This sounds like a dream!
Nonetheless, the last 80 pages of this book are lists of great books to read! I loved this part, both for books to read myself and to read-aloud to my younger kids!
Moms and kids share their experiences meeting as a book club from 2nd grade through college. Great resource if you want to start one. Several hundred of book suggestions by age and lists of resources. Almost all of the books mentioned are for tweens and up, not so much for the 6-8 range.
After reading, I feel so inspired to start a book club with my nephews. The book lists suggestions we’re amazing and I can’t wait to dive into some childrens literacy
