One of the most engaging and interesting books I've read this year. Such a fun way to learn more about famous or special trees. The illustrations are so pretty, and I love how some pages are a double spread with the text placed on top, in white. I do wish the publisher would've stuck to a maximum of one illustration on a page.

And as the year ends I want to spend a moment to commemorate two famous, beautiful trees that are mentioned in the book and that were both destroyed this year. Hopefully they will grow back, as trees are as resilient as the earth itself.

Happy New Year friends and all who read this!

Hadrian's Wall Sycamore tree - cut down by a vandal.

I love trees a lot. Like a weird amount. So this book was right up my alley. The writing was clear and interesting and informative. The pictures were beautiful. It’s definitely a book meant to be held in your hands (ironically enough), not squinted at on a phone screen.

A really wide variety of trees featured! Massive trees, old trees, rare trees, edible trees, popular trees, historically significant trees, fictional trees, paintings of trees, poems about trees. Trees from all over the world, but definitely England-centric

It did get a touch repetitive at times, but that’s to be expected — it’s designed to be read one paragraph a day, not in three sittings

Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book. My review is left voluntarily.

What an absolutely fantastic book!! I've always been a fan of trees, but am constantly frustrated that I don't know enough about them, especiallytheir names. Thank you so much to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for the ARC. The photography in this book was sensational, but what I loved best about it was the fact that I got a little history, a little poetry and a little geography throughout the book. So well-written, each page was very engaging.. Congrats to Amy-Jane Beer on this gorgeous book. I am definitely planning to buy this for a friend who is an avid gardener.

This would be great as a coffee table book or to put on the nightstand to refer to each night before bed. Each day features a tree or specific type of tree and tells you why they are unique and memorable. I learned so much reading this one! Definitely a book I'd love to take in one day at a time. Great for any nature lover.

Thank you Chronicle Books and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

A Tree a Day is a marvel of a book about trees! There is so much in this wonderful book. A picture and brief text on nearly every one of over 360 pages, and much more. Paintings by Munch, Searut, and VanGogh; poetry by Shakespeare and Tennyson; bridges made by living tree roots in India that can last hundreds of years; Newton's apple tree; the Pando tree "spread" in Utah, believed to be the world's largest organism by weight; a tree in Niger so alone that the nearest other tree was over 200 miles away, but destroyed when hit by a truck; Christ's Thorn Jujube, believed to be the tree from which the crown of thorns was made; the three mile long "tunnel of love" trees in Ukraine. There are also references to Harry Potter, the writings of Richard Powers, and Julia Butterfly Hill. Literature, music, and art, all connected to or inspired by trees.

You can learn a lot about trees reading this amazing book. If you like trees, and who doesn't, you'll love this book. In a world of great books, this is one of the best. Unfortunately it does have a few grammatical errors in the text which I assume, will be corrected in future printings of which there should be many.

A Tree A Day gives the reader a bird’s eye view of trees worldwide and their connection to humans and facts and history about them.

Looking at and reading about one tree a day would be ideal. That way, you can give the information time to sink in before moving on to another tree.

I love trees, so I’m drawn to this book. The photographs are stunning. There are so many unusual trees. I especially enjoyed the Wyndham Prison tree in Australia, the Bottle Tree in Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, and the Money Trees in England. With 365 trees, everyone should be able to find favorites.

This is way cooler than I expected! I thought it would just be a straightforward daily digest of interesting trees, prettily photographed, and that would have been nice. There is plenty of that , but, as it turns out, this is so much more. There is real creativity in how the concept of "tree" is expressed from day to day and I loved it. I really enjoyed the extra lessons about art, literature, science, architecture, and more.

This would be a wonderful gift for any nature buffs, but also anyone with a general thirst for knowledge and interesting reading. Checking out the day's article could quickly become a highlight of the day!

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

A beautiful book!

The poem for June 1st really resonated with me and I've asked the publisher if I could create a poster of the poem with an inset of the book cover and sell the books for them. (So how is that for an endorsement?!?!)

The pictures are beautiful and as a tree hugger (and American Conifer Society member conifersociety.org) I've learned a lot of miscellaneous facts / knowledge about trees. Definitely more than I thought.

Highly recommended. I'm planning to order a copy.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to review the advance read copy of A Tree a Day in exchange for an honest review, to the author Amy-Jane Beer and to the publisher Chronicle Books..

Through this book you will definitely see why the word "Majesty" is used to describe a great many of our trees. And although all trees might not necessarily be beautiful, they're almost all in some way interesting. For Nature lovers this will be a great book to have on your library shelf, or even better yet, as a coffee table book. Even if your not all that in tune with nature, the information alone is worth the read. Then lastly, the true glory of this great book, is without a doubt the amazing illustrations, they're a delight for the eyes, and for me, are quit peaceful and soothing. So go ahead and pick up a copy, and enjoy! Happy Reading!!

A really fun, informative book blending biology, history, culture, art, and other topics, all exploring tree species and individual charismatic groves, areas, or unique organisms. So much variety! I love trees and I still learned a ton.The images are gorgeous and varied. Rare misses include the inclusion of a picture of the Lorax movie when describing the book. The title is a bit misleading, since many entries are not trees per se, but tree-related topics.

My nature inspired bookclub picked this as our 'daily dip' book throughout the year.
I thoroughly enjoyed the variety of images and informative accompanying text.
Folklore, myth and legends associated with the tree's interested me the most such as the major oak the 1000 year old hideout of Robin Hood in Sherwood Forest, just imagining them back in the past stood under it talking and plotting!. I also enjoyed a peek at other tree's around the world I will likely never see in my life time.
So thought provoking and beautiful. A real treat of a book for any nature lover.

Not surprisingly, this is quite good. With a wide variety of photos and images from around the world (and time), this is reminder of the diversity that surrounds us. I was slightly disappointed in the quality of the photos (I was expecting world-class photos throughout), but the images were nonetheless high-quality overall, interesting and well-selected. Well done overall.

I really appreciate the free ARC for review!!

Nature is a natural balm to the soul. I have read about Tree Bathing in Japan, and believe it's a concept and practice that should take place around the globe.

Even if you live in a city and can't get to nature, this book will provide a daily Zen moment for you to be one with the trees. The photos and daily entries can provide a connection to nature.

I was provided with a copy of this book by the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion. All opinions are mine.

This is a cute book!

The book is broken down as a book a day - literally a book for each day of the year. The book includes fictional and real trees. There's pictures, information about the tree, and some history or significance of the tree. The book spans the glove and fictional worlds. This is a fun way to learn about different famous or significant trees and how they've impacted us as humans.

“I think that I shall never see a poem so lovely as a tree”, excerpted from the poem "Trees" by Joyce Kilmer (1913). Revel in a glorious celebration of 365 trees from around the world and the festivals, traditions, legends, artists and writers inspired by their magnificent splendor. Extensively researched and full of beautiful photography, rich illustrations and historical anecdotes, this book would be the perfect gift for any nature-lover in your life!

From hiking monthly I've always been curious about the trees around me. I remember I once asked someone knowledgeable in tree identification to teach me. They very quickly pointed out 10 different trees around us and named different fact about them. Needless to say all that information went over my head. This book was great for learning about trees at a slow pace.

I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review,

A lovely version of a daily devotional book, featuring beautiful photos and artwork of trees and tree-related things with accompanying information, lore, poetry, and more. I learned some fun stuff! This would make a great gift, for yourself or others - it's general enough to appeal to a broad audience while being lovely enough to not feel like a generic gift; I mean, it's hard not to love trees, and everyone could use some daily beauty, amiright?

Just what the title says: one entry for every day of the year, with lovely illustrations. Some folklore, some science, some philosophy, some tree history or lore, about the world's amazing variety of trees. Sort of a modern book of hours for the tree-lover (that's me!).

(The "finished" date will actually be 12/31/24, but I wanted to add it so it gets included in My Year of Books.")
