This is definitely gripping, one-sit read, enjoyable novella! I expecting more enemies to lovers troupe but it quickly turned into angsty- second chances romance between A list actress and her arch nemesis reporter!

The beginning of Kimberleigh and Spencer’s love story was truly instant! One moment they hate each other’s guts. Then very intimate moment they shared in a room: they become fast friends and they find themselves in the bed.

Thankfully after insta love style opening, the book’s direction has changed. I loved the characters’ evolving and the realistic approach to the struggles of having intimate relationship in the entertainment industry. Both Kimberleigh and Spencer have their own baggages and secrets. The representation of mental health issues is also realistic!

After the insta love theme opening I was thinking to give three stars but then the rest of the story’s progression was absolutely so much better! I even thought to give five stars at the angsty moments!

Overall: it was so much likable, easy to read, great romance option to heal our lonely souls!

Special thanks to NetGalley and Haver Street Press for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest thoughts.

RATING: 3.5/4 stars to Star Bright ★ ★ ★ ★

“You are so—” She pressed her lips together and shook her head. Spencer lifted his eyebrows and waited for her to finish the thought. “Nice,” she said finally, and he tried not to look disappointed as she leaned up to place a lingering kiss on his cheek. “You’re just so genuine and good and sweet. You’re a nice person, and I don’t know what to do with that. I didn’t think people like you existed. You’re unexpected and improbable and you feel like a miracle.” Well. That was all right. Better than all right, actually.'

“Before you, it was like I was living alone on an island, because that was what I needed to do to survive. I thought I was safer alone, where no one could reach me. But then you swooped in to rescue me when I had that panic attack. And you kept right on trying to rescue me over and over, every minute we were together. You tried your damnedest to drag me off that island.”

I've read rockstar romances. I've read a larger sum of billionaire boss romances still. And I've likely enjoyed a slew of themed stories between. From cocky cowboys to blue collar sweethearts to alpha protectors, hateful colleagues to stoics in a stiff suit, I've been around the fictional block. But out of them all? The Hollywood romance sub-genre is where I admittedly lack reading experience. I think I've read only few romances in the realm of high-profile celebrity. The trope rightfully reserves its own place, but between a line up of alternative trope-ish delights, this sub-listing wouldn't be an instant pick for me. There's Sybil Bartel's Scandalous, which (sadly) was a bit of a chaotic shamble, disengaged from a cohesive setup and to this day I'm still trying to surmise if I even liked the leading characters or even understood the story. Then there's Pranked by Sienna Valentine, which I really enjoyed. It had some great qualities, characters I liked and an interesting development, even if it was perhaps a bit too short to really flesh out those important bits. And finally, there's Marni Mann's Signed, which had a brilliantly compelling storyline with a substantive commentary on privacy, scandal, violation and public catastrophe, and leads with a brave heroine who has to navigate her way from a breakdown to a PR uplift to pick up the pieces of her broken life in the public domain. But where that story fell apart in some ways is the delivery of a problematic hero and a romance that lacked true intimacy.

I definitely held my doubts close with Star Bright. Firstly because I've never read a Susannah Nix romance before now (and I had some of those first time nerves). Secondly because the limelight theme isn't a familiar favourite. Thirdly because my above history doesn't quite form a paragon of great delight, and lastly, because I wasn't sure if I'd really connect with Spencer and Kimberleigh from a third person narrative. I demand the joy of a semi-decent pun (so please delight in this one) but Nix nixed my doubts quite quickly with this one. Star Bright is a diligently scribed, well-written, industry-themed romantic novella that manages to hit multiple notes, taps into multiple (celeb-centric) themes and thoughtfully offers an honest reflection of a life where fame, celebrity and stardom can create the untouchable personas who walk red carpets, perform with nothing short of poise but are damned if sublimity isn't met in all its forms. Through Kimberleigh, the story exposes a life of being a publicised figure within an industry that can feel hard to navigate, fields through strangeness, so mile-a-minute that it's sometimes hard to breathe. And that's where Spencer Devlin enters the frame, to literally help our heroine breathe again.

I'm going to get into a bit of backstory. In the media we're used to seeing the tense, hostile and sometimes outright belligerent relationships that blossom between the celebrity and the circuit of story-capitalising press people eager to find the story, expose the story and care little for the bleeding wounds left behind. That's not precisely why Kimberleigh hates Spencer though, even if she believes he's equipped with the same shifty instincts. During an interview with him that made viral noise and embarrassed them both had ended with an embargo on Spencer's name. Never again wanting to interact with the underhanded, gainful man with a facile, culture-pleasing approach and focussed more on her look than her legwork, Kimberleigh blacklisted him (which might've made me chuckle and cheer at the same time for such a bold move). As a woman who has to be very aware of her place and position in the sometimes-scorching spotlight and the culture that surrounds it, the life and mind of Kimberleigh Cress is expected to be something seraphic and flawless every moment of her public life. With all her existing pressure, she didn't need a reporter reducing her Integrity as a female actress.

From mental health to the limelight culture to topics of privacy, intimacy, vulnerability, and the tests of a privatised relationship, I really liked the representation across the board. I did feel that the phases of the relationship development shifted too fast and were paced too quickly, which resulted in pushing past the places where more connection might have been appreciated. And thereafter, most of it felt a bit curtains-closed and retold retrospectively. Initially, we definitely do experience the enemies to lovers vibe - more on Kimberleigh's part than Spencer's - but that smoothes itself out after a single unique interchange exposes a side to her enemy that humanises him. Then the story falls quite quickly into an instant kind of love - on Spencer's part this time - and then ensues a behind-closed-doors relationship. While I did enjoy the on-page scenes Kimberleigh and Spencer share, a lot of the development is very in the back of beyond because the story fills in many gaps in the style of 'tell over show.' In addition, Spencer and Kimberleigh's expressed feelings do become quite repetitive. The longer passages sometimes stall the story in place of that feeling of motion that moves a story along, and there are a few areas of storyline that aren't handed closure. But then, as is the way with novellas, so I didn't lean in with too much expectation.

As a story, Star Bright doesn't push too pointedly, hit too hard nor demand too much, but with sophisticated prose, it's a light read that gracefully faces some rampant topics. And inside of an entertainment enterprise that seems to break, scandalise and even misrepresent those who are a part of its art, this first telling in the Starstruck series brushes against those larger reflections while tightening the frame on a romantic relationship where trust is hard to feel, hard to accept and even harder to give away. Especially for a starlighted heroine who hasn't had the best life. While the theme isn't my normal fare, I was happy to take in the sights, sounds and secret relationship between an actress and a generous press personality who just adores her. Spencer's such a sweet sweet well-spoken cinnabun hero. He's so honest right from the start, and his charming, disarming personality amounts to the right blend of man Kimberleigh needs in her life. There's some angst, sweetness, tenderness and conversational wit, and when the gently budding relationship hits the rocks I was so dejected for them both, desperately wanting them to find their happiness together as much as I was truly respectful of the way Spencer made a decision fit for him. When the angst got angsty, I did find myself hitting the milder side of an emotional state.

It's easy to expect perfection, arrogance or elitism of two famed people for who live in an influential arena but Nix's love interests are intelligent and sophisticated as much as being humanised with softer sides. It's also easy to steamroll a persona that exists to shield the person but there's more than meets the eye of an untouchable starlet who's always having to force much more than a state of composure. With Spencer especially, even though he's warm, obliging and gracious, I liked that he was upfront about any prior professional misdemeanours and that working in this Industry was just as much a major learning curve for him. He was quite honest about his mistakes, and the ones that weren't his to claim, and that made him quick to like from the start. Even just the way these two think about each other, near or apart made my heart twitch every now and then. There's the broader feelings synonymous with the lifestyle and there's the smaller intimacy of the people behind the profession. There's a place for sunshine heroines, quirky heroines and tortured heroines, but there's also a place for walled-off heroines, and I'm glad that even Kimberleigh's wasn't impervious to the Devlin charm.

Kimberleigh has the world fooled of much more than her image. To protect oneself in this industry sometimes requires armour in the role of various forms. And while distance seems to help Kimberleigh survive the sticks and stones of it all, she doesn't want to be a familiar flash fish, a drop in the ocean, only remembered as a one-fit archetype. Her world is one of finely manipulated manoeuvres, one where people like Spencer Devlin trade in stories like hers. She's serious about roles that test her image, but a certain entertainment personality's about to really take that role home. This one draws a picture of a celebrity actress and an ambitious reporter/media personality who both want bigger and better opportunities while sidelong lives the pressure of having to be people always on the ball without ever stumbling. With likeable characters, bites of sarcasm received by wit, a secret Hollywood romance and a fledgling bigwig relationship, this one gets a tight and tender low-key Hollywood HEA. Star Bright's a novella that's really well-packed for a shorter length read, with a hero and heroine who break the typecast as they trade a rivalhood for a romance.

This light read was cute! I actually enjoyed this one, fully going into it I didn't think I would. The main character is great and well developed by the author. I think how the whole story played out was well written and left the reader wanting to keep turning the pages to see how this all panned out. I enjoyed the sarcasm and twists along the way. Kept me giggling then worried then content and happy with the ending!

I received this ARC to review from the publishers and NetGalley. All comments above are solely my true opinion after reading this book.

🎙️ enemies to lovers

3.75⭐

First of all, many, many thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC. I would not have discovered this story without the platform. When I came across this cover and read the synopsis, I saw tons of potential. I'm dead serious about it. In fact, the first disappointment was seeing that it was so short, barely 180 pages. I honestly think it could have gotten a lot more out of it because of the novelty in the actress and reporter dynamic, which you don't often see many stories of. I'm not saying that I was disappointed and disliked the story, but I do feel like I got a little too little out of it. I firmly believe that the author failed to take advantage of the diamond in the rough she had in her hands.

thank you netgalley and haver street press for this arc!! this book was released on april 19th, 2022.

this was a very interesting one-sitting novella. although i expected a bit more of the enemies to lovers trope, i really loved that this quickly became a second chance lovers story. i loved how susannah really portrayed the couple as genuine and realistic. both kimberleigh and spencer have baggage and secrets, but they are both so dedicated to making their relationship work despite the struggles in the entertainment business. i also loved the representation of mental health in this novella. i didn’t totally love the insta-love start to spencer and kimberleigh’s relationship, but the rest of the story’s progression was so good that i felt a 4 star rating really encapsulated my overall feelings for this book. in conclusion, this was a very short, but sweet read with just the right amount of spice and plot to keep me hooked!

I couldn't get into this book for the life of me. I suppose it wasn't my thing at the time. I couldn't seem to connect with anything, thus my attention quickly vanished. I don't think I was able to get into this one due of the plot. The whole encounter with the interviewer, whom she despised because he had asked her about her underwear on national television. That, and they didn't seem to match in my opinion.

This was a cute read. Kimberleigh and Spencer were a really great enemies-to-lovers couple, and I feel both characters had a good bit of depth and dimension. I enjoyed watching their connection grow deeper as they realized they were in love.

Star Bright is a wonderful romance story set in the glamorous Hollywood.

Enemies to lovers that jump from hate to Instant Love in just a few moments? I’m here for it all. More so, I always loved a great story between a starlet and a reporter. They both have a common ground to walk through and know all about behind-the-scenes schemes.

I felt like their connection and chemistry was great and while it was quite fast paced, it just showed how much one can love change a one when the right person comes along.

I enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to read the next ones in the series as some of the secondary characters picked my interest.

Very grateful to the publisher and author for my review copy.

Series- Starstruck #1

Troupes- Enemies to lovers, damsel in distress

CW- GAD with on page panic attacks, childhood trauma

Get to know more about Kimberleigh Cress from “Rising Star” and why she’s a relationship phob, in this new novella!

I was hoping while reading “Rising Star’ that ice queen Kimberleigh Cress would get her own HEA and does she ever!

I read the first bit of this in the “Tinsels and Tatas” analogy from this past holiday season and loved it! So obviously I had to ARC for Susannah for this!

This was a sweet and shot cozy read for me! Hollywood starlet Kimberleigh has many layers that Spencer tabled reporter is intrigued to peel away in an effort to get to know the real her. The more he learns the more he falls and soon he can’t imagine life with out her.

Susannah does a great job depicting our heroines GAD and panic attacks with care. She also gives a sweet and swoony cinnamon roll hero, who just wants to love and care his leading lady.
There is also some great female friendships and mentions of our Favorite heroes from book 2 and 3! As well as some steamy spicy scene!

I enjoyed this prolong novella and am excited to read the 4th book in the series later this year!

Susannah Nix is one of my favourite writers to read in the last two years. Got the ARC for this from Netgalley.

The book begins with a powerful and reassuring dedication - “For everyone who’s tired of trying to be strong all the time” which makes one feel like they have someone thinking of them.

The lead protagonists of the book, Kimberleigh and Spencer, are kind of enemies. A Hollywood actor and a morning TV show host who don’t get along until they do. Their chemistry is exactly the kind of chemistry between enemies turned lovers. Their shared background stories, their fears and their pain only adds to their understanding of each other and strengthen their relationship.

When I think of Kimberleigh and Spencer’s relationship and what is a pivotal moment for their love it’s definitely both of them thinking about each other when the other is not around and this particular thought that crosses Kimberleigh’s mind - “What was she supposed to do with a man who simply wanted to make her laugh?”.

Susannah Nix writes such real female leads and that’s what draws me to her books the most and just like her other works (mainly Chemistry Lessons series), I highly recommend this novella. Can't wait to read the other works in this series.

I could not get into this book at all. I don't know I guess I just wasn't connecting with the characters which just made my attention span disappear. I was super excited to read this as a reporter and celebrity romance sounded super interesting to me. Unfortunately, I just don't think Kimberleigh and Spencer were a great match for each other. Their first interaction had me hopeful and I felt the tension and chemistry between the two of them but after that scene, it just seemed like their relationship was sex and only sex. With the way the blurb was worded I was expecting enemies to lovers but it definitely wasn't. Spencer helped her through a panic attack at the beginning of the story and then they met up again had sex and all of a sudden cared about each other so much and loved each other. It just didn't work for me and I felt like we never actually got to see their relationship develop. Overall I personally wouldn't recommend this book as I did have to force myself to finish it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

"When he said her name like that and told her these sweet things that sounded too good to be true, she believed he meant every word. Everything about Spencer was too good to be true. And yet, here he was, continuing to be real."

thank you NetGalley, Haver Street Press, and Susannah Nix for the arc copy!!

i adore these two together. their story is told in third person omniscient, switching off to focus on either kimberleigh or spencer. it adds such a different feeling to understanding everything going through their minds, while making u want to just reach out and help them both.

from the bat, you can tell that he is someone perfect for her. at some points i did believe that she wasn't putting as much effort or passion as he was, but she knew that she wanted him. spencer has to be a new top book boyfriend because, wow, he really gave his all. he knew exactly how to help and what to say to make everything okay. kimberleigh even says something along the lines of that. together, they completely blew off my expectations.

each character has their own traits that so easily make you drawn to them. the ones they share completely and utterly helped them bond so well and effortlessly. their first meeting has become one of my favorites to this day. so proud of what they've accomplished together and on their own. seeing how they change and grow>> in my opinion it wasn't even character development, but more like letting out who they really are. both amazing people inside and out.

one thing i didn't like was how some things were left completely undiscovered or brought up again. i understand this is a novella and less than 200 pages, but if something is brought up and then not explained later on, you just feel like a chunks missing from the story. them coming together was very rushed as long as other events, but susannah really makes you feel like it was the perfect time, so i won't complain. what she wrote to happen to them did make sense, but i feel as if they could've been handled better without miscommunication.

but in general, the feeling of this book really brings you into their world. i swear a tear fell from my eye at some point. i got a couple of evelyn hugo vibes, so if you loved the hollywood moviestar-ish aspect of that, you would eat up this book just like i did. honestly had the best time reading this.

addictiveness: 4.5/5
sadness: 2/5
characters: 4.25/5
setting: 4.75/5
plot: 4.25/5
plot execution: 3.5/5
writing: 4/5
romance: 4.5/5
comedy/banter: 4/5
smut: 3/5 (only one real scene)

overall: 4/5 but could definitely be a 5/5 read for others!! i can't wait to get into the starstruck series in the future.

She’s an A-list Hollywood starlet. He’s a gossip reporter. Sleeping with the enemy has never been sweeter…

Kimberleigh Cress has moved mountains to be where she is in her career. Everything she does, down to her relationships, are planned with precision, and to be helpful to her career. What she doesn't need is to have feelings for a gossip reporter who has not only hurt her in the press, but hurt people she cares about.

Spencer is surprisingly kind and respectful, and has grown from the kind of reporter he used to be. When he chooses to show Kimberleigh kindness rather than use her weakness to his advantage, the two form a friendship that grows into something more.

Absolutely loved everything about this one, except that I wanted even more! I loved this look at romance between two dueling professions that shouldn't work well together. This is the first in the Starstruck series, and I'm running off now to get the rest of the books in the series!

This was a really cute, enemies to lovers novella that I managed to read in one day. I really enjoyed the chemistry between the two main characters and I found that the reason they were enemies in the first place was actually valid rather than a silly misunderstanding that a lot of books with this trope seem to have. I thought that the pacing was pretty good for such a quick read and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire story.

4/5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley and the author for this copy to review

Very good. Really liked the characters, especially Kimberleigh, a secretly introverted movie star who thought she'd gotten over her panic attacks. Her ice queen persona keeps everyone at a distance. As an A-list Hollywood starlet trust is a big issue; only her childhood friend/personal assistant, Luna, has that trust.
At the other end of the spectrum is Spencer, a journalist, who she distrusts and considers an enemy. As bad luck would have it he encounters her at an event when she's trying to hide while vulnerable and suffering. But, instead of outing her, he offers aid. And she grudgingly sees another side to him. A touching story follows.

I happily received an ARC for my honest review.

QOTD: Have you ever been to Hollywood?
My A: Nope! I've never been to California in general, but if I did go, I'd be up north in the trees. 🥰
.
After reading and loving My Cone and Only by Susannah Nix, I was excited to see this novella pop up on NetGalley! At a little under 200 pages, this novella introduces readers to the glitz and glamour of the rich and famous in the Starstruck series. Kimberleigh is a well established actress trying to stay relevant and keep her head above water. Spencer is a charming and witty television presenter.
.
This story packed a punch, even with the shorter length! I really liked the plot and I enjoyed reading about famous characters who WEREN'T snobs. Usually I just end up rolling my eyes at A-lister characters, but I actually really liked these two!
.
If you like enemies to lovers with spice and swoon, need a palate cleanser on the shorter side to pull you out of a slump or are just looking for a solid romance book... this one's for you. 🥳

Susannah Nix is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.

The way she writes enemies to lovers is my special cup of tea and I love the banter and tension she comes up with for these characters.

Coming under 200 pages, this is story is short but packs a powerful punch.

This story follows actress Kimberleigh and Hollywood Journalist Spencer in a hate to love romance. I loved the banter between the two, and did not want to put the book down. It tore my heart out before it put it back together. I’m excited to continue with the series to see these characters again and meet some new ones. 🥰

Plot - 4*

Overall - 5*

Summary: Kimberleigh is an A List actress who hides a lot of her true self from the public. Imagine her surprise when Spencer Delvin, renowned journalist, comes along and pulls them all out of her. But not for the publicity.

Thoughts:
I fell for these characters so fast. Kimberleigh was funny and witty from the get go and Spencer was so kind and understanding and sweet (and also funny) that I was rooting for this pair from their first meeting.
My only qualm is that this book wasn’t long enough! Some parts felt like they moved a tad bit too fast; I wanted to see more of their relationship in certain instances.
However, the way it all panned out, the swoons I felt, the ending? Amazing. Incredible. I want more of these two specifically!

THIS IS IT PEOPLE!! Second Chance and Enemies to lovers?!??! HUBBA HUBBA! Fantastic writing and banter made this book amazing!!! I would totally read more of this author and would give anything to read it again for the first time. Able to read it in 1 sitting but still able to savor the magic that is Susannah Nix! When published I see no way it wont be up there with the Spanish Love Deception and the Love Hypothesis.

I have loved everything I have read by Susannah Nix so far and Star Bright is no exception! This book falls somewhere between a novella and a full-length novel-- it only took me a few hours to read and I devoured it in one sitting! Readers should know this is a shorter book and involves some aspects of insta-love as well. Kimberleigh is a Hollywood starlet doing her absolute best to stay interesting enough that people want her in movies and tv shows, but cold enough that nobody comes too close. She needs to protect herself and her image if she wants to make it in the industry. Spencer is a celebrity reporter who is trying to make it in the cutthroat field, while also trying to be a good guy. These two have a past history of conflict, but after a special moment, one night can they get past their differences and explore their mutual attraction? Or, are they destined to burn out quickly? Read this book if you love short, sweet, and steamy romances that will have you hooked from page 1! The characters are lovable and the writing is very engaging.

##REVIEW IN ENGLISH##

I have to say that I found this book quite interesting when I read the synopsis, I mean, a movie star with a reporter? There's a lot of story to be gleaned from that. The only problem is that I think the writer left the book too basic and cliché.
It's not a bad book, it is a fast read, it's easy and entertaining but I found it a bit of a shocker. For example, they feel a tremendous attraction the second or third time they see each other and within 100 pages they are both thinking they love each other. I knew I was getting into a cliché book and all but it just seemed TOO cliché. Literally, the book goes like this: .
Literal that the book goes like this.

The two stars I'm giving it is because I didn't care much for the book, I found it as I said too cliché and very VERY VERY predictable. Still, if you're looking for a quick read and cliché then this is your book.

Title: Star Bright
Author: Susannah Nix
Hero/Heroine: Spencer & Kimberleigh
Trope: Enemies to Lovers

THE GOOD 😀

As with previous Susannah Nix books I’ve read, I was immediately sucked into the story from the first chapter. Spencer and Kimberleigh were such complex yet vulnerable characters, it was hard not to like them and find them endearing.
Kimberleigh is a Hollywood actress with major trust issues, so when she runs into well known entertainment reporter Spencer during an anxiety attack, she finds herself unexpectedly drawn to him. Spencer, having had a previous run in with Kimberleigh that ended up with him being black listed from future interviews with her, ends up comforting her and confiding in her about his own experiences with anxiety. These pair were just too bloody adorable for their own good and they had the most explosive chemistry. I loved how Spencer slowly earned Kimberleigh’s trust and worked hard to prove to her that she was loveable and worthy of a lasting relationship. Having had a rough upbringing, Kimberleigh never found it easy to trust, however she found that trusting Spencer came easy to her. Watching these two characters grow together was heartwarming, and when it got to the point where disaster struck, I found my heart breaking along with both Spencer and Kimberleigh. These two were not afraid to be vulnerable with each other and I was here for it.
Yet another highly enjoyable read from Susannah Nix, I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

THE BAD ☹️

Not a bean.

Thank you to the author for providing a copy of this for me to read. This is my honest review.

3.5 Stars

I can't lie. On the way into this one, I was not sure what I was going to think. It's a novella (maybe a little longer than a novella but definitely not "full" novel length), so there are places where the scenes seem to move really quickly as there is not a lot of time for the development, and I was not sure if I was going to be able to find myself engaged with Kimberleigh and Spencer.

I was wrong. There was something about this, and about the 2 of them together, that really drew me in to their story. I think because, overall, I really liked both of them. Although, I was definitely a little mad (ok more than a little) at Kimberleigh in parts when she allowed her insecurities to make decisions for her. But it's also human, and the seeds of her possibly not fully believing Spencer about something like this were planted throughout the story, so it was in character.

My heart broke for Spencer, but I understood the decision he made, the reasons he had for it. And I think that was the part that really drew me all the way in to this one. I liked them, and I wanted them to find their happiness, and I was saddened when it looked like it was threatened.

I do think, in parts, the depth of the story did get lost in the fact that so much had to be skipped over due to the length. It's not really a flaw I can hold against the book, but it's the reason I didn't come away from this one in tears because I had been through so much.

That said, I enjoyed and recommend this title.

I received this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Copy provided by Haver Street Press and Author Collective 20.

Kimberleigh Cress didn’t get to be one of the hottest young actresses in Hollywood without learning how to protect herself. Rule number one? Don’t show weakness. Ever. Especially not in front of the press. So when a sleazy tabloid reporter comes upon her during a vulnerable moment, the last thing she expects is kindness.

Spencer Devlin isn’t at all who Kimberleigh thought he was. After their fateful encounter, she can’t seem to stay away from him. Spencer never expected to share an unlikely connection with the spoiled starlet who hates his guts. With the face of a goddess and an attitude to match, Kimberleigh Cress is one ice queen he’d love to melt. Now that she’s gotten under his skin, he’ll do anything to keep her in his life. Or will he?

This is a very short and fun first book to start the Starstruck series. It was a little sad of how short this book was since I just wanted more. I loved the character writing especially of Kimberleigh and Spencer. The side characters were also entertaining. However, the pacing of the book was disappointing. It felt like the plots didn’t have time to settle before moving on to something else and I didn't like any of the side plots. I cannot wait to pick up the other books in the series. If you are looking for a light, quick read, this might be worth picking up.

Thank you to the author and the publisher, Haver Street Press, for letting me read an ARC of this book through NetGalley!!

TRIGGER WARNING: mention of past trauma and alcoholism and panic attacks

“For everyone who’s tired of trying to be strong all the time”

“Sure … Who wouldn’t want to be part of a magical formula of romance and comedy joined together in a cinematic perfect storm of happiness?”

This book was really good !!!
I got into it first reading it because I wanted to read a romance book with a little bit of fluffy scenes and maybe some spice but ,by the end, I got into reading a book that was actually entertaining and funny!!!
A romance story between an actress and a journalist, with some secrets from the past and a hard time trusting and relying on each other … this book also dealt with what it means to show the best, every time to everyone, and then hide your real feelings and your real distress and needs under an armour of fake happiness!!!
Kimberleigh was such a relatable and real character … I felt just like her most of the times!!!! And Spencer …
Honestly Spencer was just something else !! I didn’t expect him to be like that!!! And what’s even better is that I thought the story’d developed a little bit longer on the enemies to lovers trope but, at the end of it, I really liked that he was the first one to fall and that he loved, respected and supported her until the very end!!!
If you’re into a fluffy, entertaining, short story of a romance that starts with enemies to lovers and then develops with something different, then this is the book for you!!!
Check this one out and the other books in the series!!!

A short, but totally fun novel to start the Starstruck Series!

Kimberleigh Cress is an A-list Hollywood actress, and to get to the top she knows exactly what she has to do; be untouchable, no weakness in sight, an ice queen. And she should never EVER sleep with the enemy... not when said enemy is a gossip reporter always looking for a scoop, who already did her wrong once. Oh, but when is said reporter the only one who makes her feel alive anymore? things are about to get messy!

I'm a little sad that this book was so short, because it was so much fun and it also gave me ALL the right feelings. Kimberleigh is THE celebrity, but she is also a bit of a mystery to her fans and the press, with a lot of secrets under the rug that no one has yet been able to find, and trying to put that past behind her, she has built walls so high to around her, that no one has been able to bring her down…until Spencer. Now this man was ambitious and work-focused, trying to move beyond reporting gossip; he did Kimberleigh wrong in an interview a while ago and that's why she can't see him, but now that they've met again? he was the one who kept her anchored to reality and saved her from herself.

After truly getting to know each other, they did realize that there was much more that their public persona, and they fell in love with each other so quickly, that when everything exploded in their faces it was just as intense; there were cute words, declarations of love and groveling, everything I needed to stay til the end.

Read this if you like: Enemies to lovers, novellas, dual POV, mental health representation, light spice 🔥

Ah! I love a romance series. This is novella and book 1 of the Starstruck series. It's under 200 pages. It seems to be a prequel as there are 2 already out.

Kimberleigh Cress is an A-list starlet. She didn’t get to be one of the hottest young actresses in Hollywood without learning how to protect herself. Rule number one? Don’t show weakness. Ever. Especially not in front of the press.

When a sleazy tabloid reporter comes upon her during a vulnerable moment, the last thing she expects is kindness. Sexy, charming, and surprisingly thoughtful, Spencer Devlin isn’t at all who she thought he was. After that, she can’t seem to stay away from him, even though she knows she should.

Spencer never expected to share an unlikely connection with the spoiled starlet who hates his guts. With the face of a goddess and an attitude to match, Kimberleigh is one ice queen he’d love to melt.

Enemies to lovers is by far my favorite romance trope. There isn't a ton of banter because it's a short book. I love Susannah's books. Her character development is always great. The chemistry between her main characters is always believable. This one isn't heavy on the spice but there is some. I loved this couple. I'm definitely going to read the rest of the series.

Highly recommend this! It comes out April 19th. Pre-order now. Thank you to the author Susannah Nix, and Haver Street Press for the ARC! ❤
