The author of over 80 books in a little over a decade of writing, Dan Gutman has written on topics from computers to baseball. Beginning his freelance career as a nonfiction author dealing mostly with sports for adults and young readers, Gutman has concentrated on juvenile fiction since 1995. His most popular titles include the time-travel sports book Honus and Me and its sequels, and a clutch of baseball books, including The Green Monster from Left Field. From hopeful and very youthful presidential candidates to stunt men, nothing is off limits in Gutman's fertile imagination. As he noted on his author Web site, since writing his first novel, They Came from Centerfield, in 1994, he has been hooked on fiction. "It was fun to write, kids loved it, and I discovered how incredibly rewarding it is to take a blank page and turn it into a WORLD."
Gutman was born in New York City in 1955, but moved to Newark, New Jersey the following year and spent his youth there.
This is a book about kids trying to find a leprechaun thats tricking their school, but then they realize its just a classmate. The main character is a little rude and this was a little meh, but there were some fun play on words.
I’ve listened to this book 20+ times now as my children (especially my 4-year-old) are OBSESSED. The first few times my boys cackled and giggled the whole way through. It’s a fun children’s book.
2 downers: 1. There’s name calling and complaining. This is a huge issue for our little ones and this book only made the name calling seem funny. 2. The phrase “million-hundred” was heavily overused in this book and after my 20th time listening I never want to hear it again.
Lastly, thanks to this book, St. Patrick’s day has been more anticipated than ever before and has created an expectation for tomorrow I’m not sure I can live up to.
Such a fun quick and easy read! The humour was definetly great and one for younger readers but older would also enjoy it.These books are die felty the kind of series i would’ve loved when I was younger and I’ve definitely recommended them to my younger cousins. This one follows a cheeky leprechaun that is causing chaos around the school but it turns out that it isn’t just the only one causing chaos. Its also a great st Patrick’s day book which is nice to see that represented coming from someone from NI haha
My kids needed a book with a leprechaun in it for their March reading goals, and my oldest son (8 years old) LOVES the Weird School books, and so here we are!
This was my first Weird School book. It was cute and funny. The humor is one that older kids catch. I can see why my son loves them. The chapters are mostly words, but with some pictures scattered every other page flip or so. Great for beginning readers.
Read this to my third graders. They really like this series. It’s a little crude for my taste-fart jokes and vomit jokes but…kids like it. Most of the weird school are third grade reading level, Lexile around 600, and F&P Level O. I was trying to get them into this series so they would read more of them on their own and it worked!
I read this with my 4 yr. old. Probably not recommend for most 4 year olds, but we made it thru and she loved it. I thought it was great, lots of goofiness, potty humor and all around great message. I will definitely check out more on this author as my kiddo grows.
The girls sat through three picture books and this entire chapter book while playing with clay. It was quite funny, though Wyatt and I found different things funny than the kids did.
My third grade class loved this book. They didn’t think it was that funny but still loved it. This book gave us ideas on how to build our leprechaun traps 😊
After months of " abstinence" from this series, I've read this new special. This series is so brilliant 🤩 It was soo good to read a new book after months without it. And there are a few more new books I haven't read yet but I'll read them all this year 😁 Oh, and I love the notes (*) they often, not always, are soo funny too 🤣 for example "Why is the capital of Ireland so big? It's Dublin for years... 🙈🤣🤣
