What if Jane Eyre had been caned by Mr Rochester? What if Heathcliff had whipped Catherine into submission? And what if Lady Chatterley's lover had taken his belt to her?The governess of Birchington Manor longs for love and tenderness in her life. But like all women brought up in the reign of Queen Victoria, she knows only merciless cruelty and harsh discipline. Her only hope is that romance might come interwined with punishment. But will it be at the hands of the sadistic lord of the manor? Or the burly groundskeeper? Or even the young master, whose education and discipline is her responsibility...
This is a ridiculous story that meanders from one sexual and/or erotic encounter to the next. It’s as if the author has taken several similar but independent dark fantasies and strung them together in an attempt to make a whole. Lazy, boring, and uninspired. Apart from that, the author flips from Victorian to Edwardian, and contends that caning, spanking, and beatings were a common part of life in the Victorian period - it wasn’t, except in society’s sleazy underbelly What happened to Bessie was not believable, nor was the ending. Having been taken by Birch, Cartwright, and half the men in the village, it’s hardly likely William would marry her. Do not waste your time.
