This is the poetic memoir of a Nigerian man and his existential quest for the meanings of love and life, interspersed with his commentary and explanations. It starts with the author's yearning and confusion, becomes disdain, then love, and results in acceptance of what we are dealt and finding beauty in what we have.
The short book was filled with wit and wisdom, and the author was a true artist with words. The confusion of the author was felt equally by the reader in many areas, which puts the reader in the author's shoes. I thought that the book was a perfect illustration of Nigerian poetry and culture, in all of its beauty, complete with flaws (for all beauty has flaws). I am glad I read this book, as in it I glimpsed another world I knew very little about. The book was at times hard to read, due in part to African colloquialisms, and in part to the esoteric nature of the work, but this only was cause for pause and thoughtful reflection. I personally disliked the many graphic and metaphorical sexual references throughout, but they were honest and the true writings of the heart. Four stars.
Abuh Monday Eneojo is a poet with heart. Each of the poems in this collection ring with the emotion of the poet. You can feel the love, and the understanding of their culture in every poem. A truly lovely read.
I don't know if reviewing my book counts but i have this to say about this book: it is a sincere and real account of my encounters. I'll recommend it any day.
