A manga about a guy with a "super wonderful girlfriend" who then has another girl confess to him. Instead of turning her down, he comes to the conclusion that the best situation is to go ask his girlfriend if he can have her as a girlfriend as well.
...
Okay, yeah, that's the sum up. "Comedy" ensues.
This... was not... handled well. This is nothing more than a male fantasy comedy where his perfect girlfriend accepts his other perfect girlfriend and thus his happy harem begins (it's only volume one, I'm sure more will joining because... well... manga). She agreed because he pleaded for several pages in a scene that I think was supposed to be comedic. He argues that she will be happy in a polygamous relationship, and indeed maybe they all will, but it is clear from the start that his current girlfriend is not only uncomfortable with this but just kind of gives in. It's uncomfortable as hell.
This is a weird little book. I supposed some of the events in it could have possibly been funny if handled differently but it's just so awkward and uncomfortable and the relationships are so forced (I mean that quite literally as again, the plot seems to be to convince Girlfriend A that this is a wonderful idea). Adding to the discomfort level, they're all highschool students (and not like about to graduate sort of highschool students) and one of the brilliant ideas is that they all just move in together. I'll not even go into the extremely awkward threesome conversation.
This is just... yeah. Art is nice enough, but that's not enough to raise this rating: 1/5 stars because this is some major cringe comedy, and sadly I don't even think that's the intention.
My thanks to Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I picked this manga up because I wanted to expand my manga horizon! I like picking up books I wouldn't typically read or genres I haven't been able to jump into a lot lately (it's hard finding manga series in my town at the local used book stores, which is where I frequent lately. They get all the random, cool stuff you wouldn't think to read). So, this book sounded goofy, cute and amusing. Well... Maybe not for me?
We have our lead male who already has a loving girlfriend and there's NO way he would cheat. Right? He definitely says he wouldn't... But you know... When eyes linger... He has another woman confess love to him and obviously he needed to go out with her to! A man can never have enough women. So, how do we solve not cheating? Dating both of them! It's like a bad soap opera trope all wrapped up into one manga.
This book wasn't really as funny and cute as I'd hope it would be. It felt super awkward in a cute, chibi fashion. I loved the illustrations and wanted so much more of this art style, but I just couldn't deal with the plots. It made me feel so icky.
So, this romantic comedy is not made for me. I'm sure other readers will be into it and love it.
One out of five stars.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.
Naoya and Saki have started dating and they both really love one another. It’s all sweet and innocent until Naoya gets another confession from the terribly cute Nagisa. Naoya is utterly charmed and so incredibly stupid that he thinks that the three of them dating is a good idea. Well, not to shock anybody, but it’s not.
Okay, there are two excellent, near perfect jokes in this volume. The last chapter ends with Saki going home and the context and reveal of what that entails is actually hilarious. The other comes during school hours when our trio is hiding their association and trying to find a spot to eat lunch together. There’s a very, very good running gag here that’s almost worth the price of admission.
However, almost is not going to cut it with this book nor with me. This is an interesting premise that falls apart in the telling. Let me say, for the record, that I do have friends who have polyamorous relationships and if everybody is on board and recognizes how much work they are, more power to them - they can be done.
But that ‘on board’ part is the key and Saki is very clear that she wants no part of this - she’s being backed into a corner by the other two. It also drives me crazy that they keep calling this two-timing when there’s no duplicity involved. For all his faults, Naoya is at least completely honest about his intent.
So poor Saki is dragged into this nonsense and keeps getting more and more out of sorts with it. The book paints her as a third wheel and it’s totally unfair when she signed on for a bicycle. She’s Shanghai’d into this and then starts to develop self-esteem issues.
And all this over Naoya, who’s a total pain in the ass. I do not like this character AT ALL and my inability to read more is basically down to how annoying he is. His earnestness means he just can’t stop telling the truth and being very up front, but as loudly as possible. It’s just so awful and as his one note of personality it’s a lot to put up with.
Nagisa for some reason loves him and has worked herself to death making herself into the ideal girlfriend. However, this makes her into this meek, passive, piece of perfection that just guilts the other two into going along with things. Saki is the only interesting character in this book.
2 stars. No more of this for me, thanks. I’d probably be more interested it Saki and Nagisa realized they were the pair that worked and dumped Naoya. Canno explored this as a story of three girls in Kiss & White Lily for My Dearest Girl and I wasn’t a huge fan of that interpretation either, but it’s light years beyond what you’re getting here.
DNF. So, yeah no. This just fails, if it was supposed to be a comedy romance about a polyamorous relationship it’s not. Saki is pushed into it and it just goes downhill from there. By the time we hit the awkward threesome discussion I could not read it.
This is probably the most absurd manga I have ever read. The plot itself is completely shallow to be honest. So why the four stars? Because amidst all the absurdity and chaos, I actually find myself laughing and liking the story. Ngl it's pretty fast-paced and I am honestly not sure yet if I will actually finish reading this series but for now I'm just gonna enjoy the chaotic vibe this manga gives off.
Poor Saki... She's so normal (or normal-ish, anyway, compared to Naoya and Minase... which is a very low bar...) I would have liked this more if they'd leaned more into the poly/triad relationship aspect the way the premise sets it up. And the story sets it up that way too, with Saki taking an immediate liking to the other woman and finding her just as cute and irresistible as Naoya does. But then the repeated references to "two-timing" (which it is not when all parties have agreed to being in the relationship...) really became bothersome. Some of Saki's struggled are normal high school romance manga with a poly spin, and some are sort of questionable consent issues, and that brought the star rating down for me. I wish we'd gotten more of an enthusiastic (if maybe still confused and/or reluctant on the surface but a stronger message of her internal interest in a poly relationship) and that would have made this overall better for me.
Funny slice of life rom-com manga with a twist. I'm hoping some of its issues are resolved in vol 2 and am willing to give it time to grow into something better, but if vol 2 has the same problematic notes I won't be continuing beyond that.
If Saki didn't keep telling us that Naoya was as straight as an arrow, I'm not sure I'd believe it, unless she was making a comment about his sexual orientation. That's because guys who decide that they "can't bear" to hurt a girl who confesses to him by turning her down because he's already GOT a girlfriend don't really fit that definition in my book. Not that I have an issue with poly relationships; it's just that I have this weird feeling that they ought to be, you know, consensual among all members of the relationship, not the result of one guy being a ninny and his girlfriend reluctantly going along with him.
This isn't all bad - there are some genuinely funny moments, and the art's nice. But if ever there was a series I was hoping would get a nice boat ending...
It’s basically about a dimwit of school guy going out with the most popular cute girl at school, amongst a few girls who are after him too (likewise with him too). Yeah a pretty much your typical harem unfortunately ...
Key words: polyamorous, manga, shonen, romance, humour, high school
I am not really sure how I feel about this manga. I want to say I enjoyed it, but what really made this difficult is the way the characters are always screaming. Indeed, the text is either written in bold or the speech bubbles are screamy. I did not like that. This is proof of how important the speech bubbles are and how they can affect your reading.
If I think past that, I liked the story. It is quite funny but I am expecting more for the next volumes. I like the idea of the guy who is too honest to cheat on his girlfriend and instead dates both. However, I would have preferred older characters for this type of story. Moreover, this polyamorous relationship is not well-structured for the moment because in real life, everybody involve needs to be okey with it and here, Saki doesn’t seem like she is loving it. So yeah, in order to feel comfortable when reading this story, I need the characters to be more at ease too. That’s why I want to read the second volume, in order to have a good idea of the series.
I recommend this manga for fans of humour manga mostly for the moment.
2.5/5
Thank you Netgalley for this eArc in exchange of my honest opinion
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The first page literally gave me bad vibes and I don't like how this insinuates cheating. I hated myself for still continuing, thinking it will get better. Why have men always acted like what they want should always be given to them? I don't like this one. I don't like the emotional cheating and them forcing the original girlfriend to agree for him to date them both. I fucking hate this. The gaslighting and disrespecting of the original girlfriend's boundaries when she said no is so infuriating to me. I would definitely NOT recommend this one.
Naoya has a serious problem. He is an honest and kind boy unable to see others suffering so after he asks his childhood friend, Saki to date him and she accepts the last thing he expected was another girl named Nagisa confessing her love to him as well. Well he has a solution and manages to convince the sometimes spoiled Saki to agree to allow Naoya to date the adorable (and fantastic cook) Nagisa so long as he continues to love her still and they keep the love triangle a secret from public ears. With a cast of characters that play off each other well as well as showing their unique quirks individually the MFF dynamic are more than enough to take over the comic with limited use of other characters to fill the story what there is of it. You might laugh, you might groan, and you might do both at certain points of the volume but never did I get bored even if I occasionally thought this guy is too lucky he hasn't lost one or both of the girls with how he does things out of the ordinary sometimes. I guess it takes all kinds. :)
“GG” follows high school freshman Naoya who is currently dating spunky tsundere Saki, whom he’s been crushing hard on since elementary school. Suddenly he gets a love confession by another girl, the sweet and very endowed Nagisa. Yet instead of letting her down like a man, he decides to convince Saki into letting the three become a dating trio so as not to hurt feelings. She reluctantly agrees and that’s taking it lightly, and the three try to make the best of it by eating and living together with Naoya always making it worse. Yet it quickly makes Saki jealous and feeling inferior to Nagisa’s sweeter personality.
It always has a bit of a typical harem story with a predictable premise and an idiot MC. While I kinda like Saki and Nagisa, Naoya is just a real doofus who doesn’t use his brain properly and constantly puts his foot in his mouth. Yet despite the clustered plot, it still provides funny moments that make it a fair read. I won’t be surprised if more girls join in. B- (67%/Decent)
I don't think I am the target audience for this one. This sort of bombastic, slapstick, and immature humor doesn't really appeal to me, and I can't really discern what chemistry is maintaining this train wreck of a relationship. I have nothing against harems, l just prefer them to be more romantic.
Closer to a 3.5, but I want to read more of it, so it gets bumped up a little bit.The premise is ridiculous and contrived, but there's some good delightful humor in there.
I received this manga from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
Well... this one didn't click. Not at all. I mean, I loved Doujin Work, I like Aho Girl, but this was just even more than Aho Girl and the weirdness, whereas it fits with Aho Girl, it just doesn't fit with this manga. Plus, hello, Saki clearly said no, but just went with it because she didn't want to lose Naoya. :| That just doesn't sit right with me all right, if she had said yes from the start, then I would have been maybe more comfortable with it, but now it is just a constant battle and constant emotions and constant back and forth and it just frustrates me. Also everything is way too exaggerated. Everything they do is too much. There is not one normal moment. And I definitely could use that. I also definitely cannot believe these three are 15, nor believe that no one came to Nagisa to check why she isn't at school, and also get tired of parents aren't around or parents don't give shit trope. I am not going to continue reading. This just gave me a headache. So sad, because I was really looking forward to a new manga by this artist.
Thanks to Netgalley and Kodansha for this arc! Here’s my honest review: At first I thought “oh yeah, I’m gonna hate this ML and wtf? Is he gonna cheat on her and start two-timing?!?! *glances the ML in a disgusting way*. But then again though, this is the author of Aho girl and I don’t think he does this kind of manga...? So i was 🙃 “well, let’s dive in a see what happens”. What I didn’t think was that it was going to SUCK ME IN and make me so interested that I couldn’t left the tablet until I have read it entirely (carrying it to the bathroom too). I think this manga is the mist hilarious and entertaining and lovable of all I read so far. I honestly didn’t expected it bc his prev title didn’t appealed to me THIS MUCH. But he’s improved a lot in this time and I’m really excited and anxious to read the next volumes to come. The way the polyamorous and threesome was handled was the greatest and the characters are each one of them very very likeable. I found myself liking the ML and how he is with the girls. So earnest and caring and honestly truthful. And the girls: I loved them both so much. They were each so great and cute. Honestly they both deserve the world equally I want to hug them so much. And I’m enchanted with them not being actually “jealous” with each other, liking and cherishing each other on their own ways and not settling a “competition” for the guy. Nagisa is just the cutest, you can just hate her bc she is so caring and loving and innocent that you’ll be a fool if you think of her badly. And Saki-chan... she’s just the best girl ever, how can she be so loving and caring and accept all that? I honestly doubt I could. If there is a way where humans can be like that I think it would be loving... but well I’m sorry if I get to carried away. I just wanted the publishers and author to know how much I appreciated this. If you think that polyamory is not ok or something like that, well, you could regret it by reading this story. So please give it a try. I promise it will be a lot of fun and warmly cute. Bye!
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for letting me read and review this.
Umm okay. Haha
I have learned to never be surprised with manga because it can be out there sometimes.
If you look past the fact that this would be an incredibly toxic relationship in real life and that this is in no way how a polygamous relationship works, it is funny if you don't take the story too seriously. It is a very slapstick and satirical comedy.
I would be down to see where 'exactly' this story goes.
Thank you Netgalley and Kodansha for the eARC! This sounded like a very interesting manga and I was excited to read it. However, I found it to be quite problematic and it portrays poly relationships in a very toxic way. Naoya basically forces Saki to let him date both her and Nagisa and you can see she's uncomfortable with it for practically the entire manga. She also finds Nagisa cute but it feels more like a friendship way and she's definitely not comfortable with Naoya dating both of them. Both girls have moments of insecurity about the relationship and Nagisa even snoops through Saki's phone to find dirt on her. Both girls turn dating Naoya into a competition where they have to be better than the other so that Naoya won't choose one over the other and leave them. They even want to keep their relationship at school a secret and Saki wants to pretend that they don't know Nagisa which is such a mean thing to do. I have to give some credit to Naoya though because he works extra hard to make sure that both girls feel loved in the relationship and he does his best to soothe their insecurities and make them better people (like helping Nagisa study), but if he really was that concerned then he wouldn't force them into the relationship to begin with. It's his fault that they are all in this relationship so he better make sure he's treating them all well. I'm really curious to see if this improves in upcoming volumes. I didn't know this, but the author also created "Aho Girl" which I was a huge fan of so I was a little disappointed with their latest work. 2.5/5

A relationship between three people all with different personalities??? What could go wrong?
The first volume has not disappointed me! IT WAS REALLY FUNNY!
I'm not gonna go too much into the story, but Naoya (the mc guy) gets together with Saki-Saki and Nagisa, but the two girls are complete opposites of each other! Saki-Saki is more so the tomboy in the relationship, meanwhile Nagisa is what one would expect of a "good" girlfriend, she can cook and clean, keeep her grades up, etc. Something Saki-Saki can't do. The two are always battling between each other because they're afraid Naoya will split the relationship up and go for the other one instead, the girls overanalyse everything, creating chaotic funny messes!
The series has so much Comedy but also it's chaotic. There's not one moment in the manga where everything is calm and normal - something's ALWAYS going on!
But do beware that the first volume has a bath scene where the two girls are wearing towels. It doesn't go on for long and the camera position doesn't show anything, but I know some people mind this. (More scenes that are worser with revealing body parts show up in later volumes, you have been warned.)
So, if you're into Manga that is: - Chaotic - Comedic - Romance not taken seriously - Funny characters - An interesting MC who's always panicking (but not in an dislikeable way)
then Kanojo mo Kanojo is for you!
(NOTE: If you're looking for ACTUAL ROMANCE, this manga isn't it. This is more so COMEDIC romance, not really meant to be taken all that seriously.)
We've got Naoya, he's dating super cute Saki. She definitely wears the pants in the relationship. Kind of a tsundere, but more like, is the one in charge. Then Nagisa, short, curvy, and also very cute comes along, and confesses to Naoya. Not wanting to make her cry, and seeing that she's a knockout, he decides the best solution (?) Is to be in a three-person relationship. At first Saki is totally opposed, but Nagisa is just so loving and adorable that Saki agrees. So they all end up under the same roof (but separate bedrooms) in a house right next door to Saki's parents. This story is pretty silly, given the subject matter. I've read a few one-shots that had the same premise, but they all were very realistic about the situation. Here, it's more about the absurdity of being in a three-way relationship in high school, but not wanting their classmates or Senseis to know. Saki is really bossy, likes to take charge, and wants to dominate Naoya, while Nagisa, she's meek, thoughtful, and wants to serve Naoya (and Saki, too). So we end up with an average 1st year high school guy dating two super cute 1st year high school girls who are polar opposites of each other. This is getting interesting. I look forward to the next volume.
Forgot that I finished this volume a few nights ago.
I'm fairly well-spoken. Maybe not always the quickest at getting to what I mean, but I typically get to exactly the level of articulation I want.
I dunno *what* to think of this.
I have friends that are poly, so even though it isn't right for me, it's an idea that isn't shocking. I'm also an introvert, so TWO people around all the time is by no means a male fantasy to this male. So I don't get shock humor out of this nor do I get indulgent wish-fulfillment. So that basically just leaves the characters and plot of the day.
Yeah, those weren't great either.
But I kept turning those pages.
I don't think it's come up in many of my reviews, but I'm a horror movie buff. Frankly, I don't have other manga to compare this level of spectacle to. This is not your garden variety Syfy Original levels of bad. This isn't Bloodz vs Wolvez. This isn't even Suburban Sasquatch. No, this is on the level of one of the scariest movies of all time, according to Scream 2: This is Showgirls. This is sheer mania on the page that checked coherency at the door. It is not entertaining, but I was entertained.
Rounding up from a 4.5 star rating that I’m giving largely as appreciation for the level of honesty that’s (mostly) at play in the relationship portrayed. I found it really refreshing.
The level of direct frankness in dialog re: discussing worries and emotions felt reminds me of something out of a Wes Anderson film, and I’m here for it!
So far, it feels like an interesting exploration of some folks ‘figuring out’ a form of polyamory for themselves- even if the way it starts (with one partner not being fully onboard, and only agreeing to try it out for fear of the relationship ending otherwise) isn’t considered to be the healthiest of starts IRL.
I’m rooting for the ‘I want to be the #1 GF’ competitive aspect of things to chill over time, personally, but I get that’s not every polyamorous group’s ‘structure.’
I think I’m a really big fan of the ‘found family runs household and helps one another out’ aspects, and look forward to seeing how that all goes.
This is the type of romcom that gets me every time. Given the exaggeratedly stupid-acting characters, awkward scenes and funny monologues, it never fails to make me laugh.
The manga is about 3 teenagers who will attempt to make a polyamorous relationship happen, but ofcourse, there's a lot of complication to it. I tried to openly read this book, so that I won't be bothered by it. That's why I just couldn't stop laughing with how the characters also reacted to what they're trying to do.
It's an absolute chaotic mess, but not in a bad way. Note though that there problematic contents here, like internalized colorism, and a more minor one, which is internalized body image issues, which I hope will have a development in the next volumes.
Nevertheless, I still very much enjoyed reading it. If it sounds like a book up your alley, do check it out!
It's... hard to describe and I guess there are so many landmines I could stumble into here... Let's keep it simple then! The cast is so crazy full of energy. I would say the energetic shouting and gesturing to normal talking ratio is about 1:1 which is... well... a lot if you think about it. Could get a little taxing though, but for now it works out. Especially lf you think about the situation those three are in. Everybody is really on edge for various reasons and trying to fit into this unusual relationship. Plus they are all teens, so obviously there is going to be a lot of emotions involved. And I can see why some people would turn this manga down for the pure concept of it. I'm willing to explore it and I hope that Hiroyuki will use this opportunity to tell a meaningful story about love. And mishaps. Lots and lots of mishaps. And shouting. So much shouting 😅

DNF
I couldn’t get through this. The characters were all so over the top and the whole premise of the manga made me extremely uncomfortable.
I’m all for open relationships and polyamory when it is discussed and there is consent and it is wanted by all parties. In this manga, the boyfriend gets a confession from another girl and immediately he wants to date them both and when he can’t, he resorts to saying he didn’t want to date them both in secret hence him asking his current girlfriend if he could date them both. I just had a feeling this wasn’t going to go in a direction that I’d like so unfortunately, I won’t be completing this one.
Manga like this should not be taken seriously 💀 idk why some people are pressed in their reviews of how absurd it is like ?? That’s the whole point of the story?? Nothing in this is remotely real or resemble anything real. It’s terrible sometimes truly but also unequivocally hilarious and entertaining. I’m here from watching the anime so maybe that’s why I’m enjoying this more but tuning in every week to see some entertaining bs about a potential quart-ouple was oddly enough really fun and would make me forget whatever was weighing me down in my life for 24 minutes of the week. Idk I feel like we all need something so ridiculous and unreal to get through our very mundane lives.
Thanks to Netgalley and Kodansha for providing this e-arc.
Let's get it out of the way. This manga portrays polyamory in a bad comedic light and doesn't handle the intricacies of such a phenomenon. It'as also hyper-sexualized for it being a bunch of 15 year olds, just making me more disgusted by the country itself and the people affected with the nationalistic propaganda of Japan. The author also doesn't develop and give us a reason that this bland male specimen manages two be in a relationship with 2 women who are clearly out of his league.
