When Summer Mackenzie and her boyfriend disappear in the fog-shrouded forests of Northern California, it sets off more than one alarm. The sheriff’s department is looking for them, the state rangers are on their trail, and even private security companies have gotten involved.
But Summer wasn’t an ordinary college student; she was a human born into the immortal Mackenzie clan, a line of powerful vampires from the Great Smoky Mountains. Now Carwyn ap Bryn and Brigid Connor are getting messages from allies across the world, old rivals, and new friends, all wanting to know where Summer is and why hikers along the Lost Coast keep going missing.
If Brigid and Carwyn can’t find Summer, tensions between vampire clans might just snap, leaving more than just the immortal world bloody.
They may know how to search the wilderness, but the Northern California woods hold more than the average share of mysteries. Secretive immortals, suspicious humans, and ancient myths are all at home in a land where human highways come to a dead end, and dense forests meet rugged coast.

Brigid and Carwyn are two elemental vampires finding the lost and righting wrongs, searching for meaning in an endless stretch of immortality. And trying not to blow things up, but that might be more aspirational. —— When Summer Mackenzie and her boyfriend disappear in the fog-shrouded forests of Northern California, it sets off more than one alarm. Martyr’s Promise is a supernatural mystery in the Elemental Covenant series by Elizabeth Hunter, USA Today bestselling author of A Hidden Fire, Suddenly Psychic, and over forty other works of fantasy fiction.
It’s Live!! This was so good. It is one of my favourites of 2021 and I can say it is right at the top of the list.
Once upon a time this author created a world of vampires who can wield the elements. Earth, wind, water and fire. The series grew spinoffs that can be read as standalones were created and thousands of fans like myself were hooked. It you follow me reviews you shall know that I am a huge fan of this series. Especially of Brigid our fire wielding pixie and Carwyn our humble Hawaiian shirt wearing earth elemental.
With an endless stretch of time of already living a thousand years and maybe having a thousand more what can one do with your life? Well these two have decided to find the lost and right wrongs of the world. Protecting those who are vulnerable, trying to stick to the plan but that doesn’t always work.
Two people are missing and it is up to Brigid and Carwyn to find them. Carwyn encounters an old adversary and it is time to amend what couldn’t have been done before now. I am being vague but who wants to read about spoilers? No one.
Brigid and Carwyn are one of my all-time favourite couples. It is a love for the ages they complement one another. They have chemistry, they have fun, and they have a great love for one another.
“I love you quite madly, Carwyn ap Bryn.” “That’s good,” Carwyn said. “Because I’m definitely going to fuck up something you’ve carefully planned in the next few days.” She closed her eyes. “I’d like to say you’re exaggerating, but you just never are.” I would fight Brigid but I would so loose.
“She was a tiny, taciturn, avenging fairy godmother to the victims lucky enough to have her heart.”
Now I am totally biased but the writing is once again flawless and where I have the tendency to nit-pick there is nothing wrong with this book. Nada. I don’t have anything negative to say. As I said the writing is top notch, the plot and storytelling is engaging, suspenseful and intertwined with emotions and humour making the balance just right for my taste buds in paranormal romance.
Meeting old friends Natalie & Baojia to an engaging and spellbinding writing. To Ms. Hunter opening up her Elemental World Series even more than before what with Benzin finally getting the ending they deserve. We can now have Katya in San Francisco or the Mackenzie’s the possibilities are endless. Literally, Endless.
This book most certainly has my approval.
ARC generously received in exchange for an honest review.
Wow. Oh, how I adored this book!! This story is a perfect example of what I have come to expect from an Elizabeth Hunter book. Action, mystery, beautiful and hilarious romantical moments, and an incredible feeling that even though I have never been to the location that the story takes place....when I'm finished I feel as if I can close my eyes and remember every detail as if I have traveled there many times. *sigh*
The first book in this Elemental offshoot series leaves us feeling the weight of the decisions Brigid and Carwyn have to make as they try and figure out how to build a future life together and picture what that will look like. There are choices to be made, and we often felt their pain when there were more questions than answers given. This story is~ much~ more settled. They are still trying to carve out what their lives will look like together, but in this story they were a much more united front. And when Carwyn feels comfortable and happy in life...well the joyful shenanigans abound! Bears, mountain lions and cubs, oh my! It can never be over stated how a happy Carwyn, and a confident Brigid in harmony (as much as these two can ever be in harmony, I do so love their banter!) can make a story so pleasantly explosive!
Elizabeth brings back beloved Elemental characters in this book as they team up to solve the mystery presented. Mountains, remote trails, missing hikers..and Bigfoot?? Yes please! This story had heart pounding intensity and sweet harmony written in flawless execution. Her creativity as she introduces new characters and delves deeper into ones we already know always blows my mind. There isn't a person we meet in this fictional world that I don't become intensely invested in.
If you had reservations after reading the first book in this series, if you want that escape that you always expect in and EH book, please don't hesitate to dive into this one. You won't regret it!
Ohana means family. And, family means no one gets left behind. Therefore, our favorite Hawaiian-shirt-wearing vampire superhero leaves the 99 to find the one. Martyr’s Promise, the second book in the Elemental Covenant series, runs the gamut and has something for everyone: there is fun, adventure, mystery, danger, love, revenge, triumph and even self-actualization. We meet new characters, sure to become favorites, as well as catch up with a few of our old BVFF, (best vampire friends forever. Yes, it’s a thing.)
One of my favorite parts of MP is we get to see how Carwyn and Brigid’s relationship has grown. The love between the two is a tangible thing; soft and sweet, and as all-consuming as the fire Brigid wields.
Martyr’s Promise is one more jewel in the Elizabeth Hunter crown. A definite must-read.
I had an opportunity to read an advance copy of Martyr’s Promise in exchange for an honest review.
Another fantastic story by Elizabeth Hunter! ***** Rating: 5 stars Steam: 1 flame Genre: PNR / Elemental Vampires ***** Carwyn and Brigid are back and they have another mystery to solve. Summer and her boyfriend Daniel have gone hiking in the mountains, and haven't been seen for two weeks. Summer is from the Clan McKenzie and that means she is a distant relative to Carwyn, so when they get the call to assist in finding the two humans, they quickly agree.
There is some bad juju happening in those mountains and everything is not as it seems.
This book took me on a suspense filled journey that once I started I didn't want to stop. These elemental vampires are fascinating but the big draw... is the Big Vampire himself, Carwyn. I tell you, I adore him. He is kind, protective, funny, and when necessary viscous to those that want to harm the innocent.
Brigid is a strong and capable mate to Carwyn and although Carwyn wants to protect her, he would never prevent her from going into battle because she is fierce! And she puts up with Carwyn's shenanigans.
Carywn and Brigid have chemistry, humor, and a love that leaps off the page and will make you seriously sigh.. ahhhhh. Martyr's promise is mysterious, well-written, with a fantastic world that comes alive and jumps off the pages with characters that are layered and not one dimensional.
A truly fantastic read. I am so glad I found Elizabeth Hunter and I have a whole back list to work through while I wait for whatever is next for Carwyn and Brigid! A must read, loved it recommendation from me!
So good! There was plenty of mystery and suspense. Carwyn, Brigid, and a new character offered alternate points of view. I vaguely remembered a few of the other characters but that didn't distract from the riveting plot. No new developments in Carwyn and Brigid's relationship. They balance each other well in vampire married life, so no worries about unnecessary angst or drama between these two. They are a well-oiled machine. So well oiled that I wish there would have been more page time devoted to the new character.
Firstly: I have read all of Elizabeth Hunter's books and have enjoyed every single one. Secondly: For the first time ever, after reading "Saint's Passage" (the first book in the Elemental Covenant series) I felt a little adrift and maybe just a little disappointed. (I still recommend that you read it as Ms. Hunter NEVER writes a "bad" book.) Thirdly: "Martyr's Promise" (the second book in this series) is a homerun. It started with a bang and continued that pace throughout the entire book. It was truly a fast paced page turner.
The victims in this story are Dani, the wealthy son of a prominent family from Mexico and gifted athlete, and Summer, a human born into the Mackenzie clan who grew up straddling both the human and non-human world. It also makes her related somewhat to Carwyn. The book begins with them being kidnapped from their hiking trip in northern California. They could have been just two more lost people if not for that family connection. Requests are made and the hunt begins. Beloved characters from books past have a large part in this story. Baojia and Natalie, along with Katya are instrumental in finding Summer and Dani. The first book in this series had Carwyn and Brigid attempting to start their relationship, and trying to find their life's purpose. In "Martyr's Promise" I feel as if they are hitting their stride. The comfort level between Carwyn and Brigid has become smoother, the heat has become more open and the trust level leaves no questions. As usual in Ms. Hunter's books, the witty banter, the laugh-out-loud moments, the suspense and the locale are all included in "Martyr's Promise." Who knew that mountain lions and bears could bring so much laughter? The locale, Northern California is, as always, one of the main characters in "Martyr's Promise." You will experience the ancient giants in primeval forests filled with evil humans and non-humans. You will feel the fog on your skin, you will hear the quiet and you will completely believe that you are surrounded by things that are outside the realm of your reality. Absolutely sublime. Elizabeth Hunter always writes strong, ferocious female characters, and Summer Mackenzie is no exception. I am truly invested in her and cannot wait to see where her choices may lead her. I may not agree with her final choice, as I felt she was too hasty, but it will be so much fun accompanying her on her journey. I am also excited to see where Dani's journey may take him. These two characters are too rich and nuanced to not see again. Their story is not over and I cannot wait. "Martyr's Promise" is a gem. It is an exceptional story with so much intensity that is has left me wanting more. Right now. I always count myself so lucky to read Elizabeth's books early because it makes it so much sweeter when I receive my paperback in the mail and I get to read it all over again!
Martyr’s Promise, book 2 in Elizabeth Hunter’s Elemental Covenant series, introduced me to the unique world of elemental vampires. Vampires who possess the ability to wield earth, wind, and fire. The author created a fascinating world which lovers of the paranormal genre would enjoy.
It took me a while to get into the story, but the moment I did, I was hard-pressed to put it down. My initial struggles were mostly because of my unfamiliarity with the concept of elemental vampires. Hence, it took sometime for me to grasp the concept. Action, intrigue, mystery and suspense permeated the pages of Martyr’s Promise.
It was fun meeting Carwyn and Brigid, the vampire couple with whom the story centres around. Carwyn is an earth elemental, while Brigid wields fire. They made it their mission to protect the vulnerable. Hence, the reason for their presence in Northern California.
Two youngsters were missing and the vampire in charge of that area sought their help in finding them. Throughout the course of their search, the pair, along with their friends, discovered nefarious activities by a rogue vampire. This is where things became quite intense and interesting.
Now, do not go into this series expecting romance. While familiarising myself with this world, I discovered that the romance for the couples appearing in this story occurred in the author’s Elemental World series. Now, while I didn’t get the chance to read this series, the Hunter provided sufficient information about the couples. This made them relatable and left me wanting to read their romance. Carwyn and Brigid were so in tune with each other, one can clearly see they were meant for each other. I loved the dynamics between them.
Despite my initial struggles, Martyr’s Promise proved to be a wonderful and unique story. Readers who enjoy paranormal mysteries should consider adding a Martyr’s Promise to their reading list.
I absolutely loved Brigid and Carwyn!! This isn’t a genre I read that often but when I do I’m like why am I not reading this!!! Fast paced story that kept me hooked beginning to end
I am so excited I got to read this highly anticipated book (for me). Ok, first, you must understand I am new to Elizbeth Hunter; I came to know her by falling into the world of Ben and Tenzin in The Bone Scroll. I then read Saint's Passage and adored Carwyn and Brigid, so I did more research by reading books in the Elemental Mysteries. I love these books, and Martyr's Promise is exceptional.
Summer and her boyfriend Dani have been taken from a hiking trail in the mountains of northern California. Our mystery begins there. Summer is the granddaughter of a vampire clan in North Carolina that is loosely related to Carwyn. When you're over a thousand years old, there's a lot of family either by actual blood and vampire blood. If you are familiar with Elizabeth's books, you know there is a hierarchy and protocols about what goes on in a vampire's region. There is something illegal in Katya's area of California, and Carwyn and Brigid need to find out what and get Summer back.
Carwyn and Brigid provide their delectable banter and cast of characters from Baojia and Natalie to all the other vampires we meet; make this a book you can't put down. You have to know where Dani and Summer were taken--what's going to happen to them. What evil is going on? Carwyn and Brigid face the evil and solve the mystery, but doors are left ajar. Dani and Summer's relationship is a bittersweet and poignant door left open--please, Elizabeth, please, let them find their way back to each other. Sokolov is on the loose, and that battle is coming for Brigid at some point.
Carwyn and Brigid are fun, loving, and quite funny at times. I love how they balance each other, and it is so enjoyable watching them build their new joint life together. I highly recommend this book, and even if you have not read all the books in this universe, you can read this and enjoy it immensely. Elizabeth Hunter has mastered the paranormal, urban fantasy suspense novel like no one else I've read.
Review copy was received from Author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
4.5 hearts
The main characters of this new Elemental Covenantseries, Carwyn and Brigid, were the romance in the first book of the Elemental World series, Building from Ashes. Elemental World series is a spinoff from Elemental Mysteriesseries. So this new series is a spinoff of the spinoff.
I'm really enjoying this new series very much as mysteries and especially helping the underdog and bringing down bad guys is my favorite. In Martyr's Promise, a wonderful couple is hiking and disappears. Summer is a skilled outdoors woman and has connection to vampires, so she knows what they are. Dani is a wealthy athlete from Mexico. They are enjoying a trip together.
Carwyn and Brigid are perfect here. I really enjoyed their teasing and sense of humor with each other. I have always been fond of Carwyn and his compassion but now I see Brigid's fiery determination to save those taken advantage of by predators. Their superior skills also allow them to confront the most dangerous.
I enjoyed seeing Baojia and Natalie again. Katya, who is the vampire in charge of northern California, and Baojia's boss, is introduced and some of her family and team. There seem to be many cases for our team in California, as well as many friends in this region. I highly recommend these new books in the Elemental World.
COYER # 27 Read a book with a man fully clothed on the cover.
As with so many of her books, I read Elizabeth Hunter's latest in one sitting. It starts off with a bang and doesn't let up!! Summer and her boyfriend thought they were just going to have a nice time hiking and camping along the California coast. Not so much. Characters from previous novels reappear and turn their world upside-down. Enter Carwyn and Brigid as knights in shining... caravan? This book was a wild ride and one of the more intense of all the Elemental books, in my humble opinion. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Do they make it in time? Do they keep their world away from human discovery? Do they actually meet Bigfoot?! All in all, another fantastic offering from one of my all-time favourite authors.
So, I loved this book. Absolutely loved this book. I’ve always enjoyed Brigid and Carwyn, but following Saint’s Passage, I found myself wondering what kind of challenges they would truly be facing in Martyr’s Promise, and in the series going forward. After all, when you have two pretty powerful, well-connected, highly-motivated vampires searching for missing people, how hard can it be to find them?
Serves me right for doubting: as it turns out, it can get quite challenging, especially when the people in question vanish into the misty, isolated stretches of woods around the appropriately named Lost Coast. With no suspects, few motives, too much territory to search, and two powerful vampire clans invested in the outcome, Brigid and Carwyn have their work cut out for themselves. And their enemy’s motivations are even more sinister than it first seems…
Overall, Martyr’s Promise is a great, nerve-wracking-in-the-absolute-best-way ride. I threw my phone, I screamed into pillows, it was delightful.
For those who’ve read Saint’s Passage, I do want to say that this story runs at a much faster, more action-packed pace (which I really loved). There’s a slightly sinister edge to the forest setting that keeps the tension running through much of the book, but it works without ever making things too scary. And then the scenes from Summer’s perspective brought a whole NEW level of tension to the story, which I really, really enjoyed.
I also loved that we got to peek more into the background of the mysterious Katya...as well as learning some intriguing details of a few other, surprise characters.
And of course, it’s Elizabeth Hunter writing Carwyn and Brigid: the banter is perfectly ridiculous, and delightfully on point, right up until you get hit with some incredibly lovely, beautiful line that speaks directly to the soul.
Thrilled as always to have had a chance to read an early copy of this. 10/10, can’t wait for the next adventure!
Well that book was INTENSE. I knew to except it to be amazing and I wasn’t let down.
Gah I just love Carwyn and Brigid! They are hilarious and just so fecking amazing. I love that they are basically on this crusade to help people. Plus we get their spicy chemistry added in.
I love this series and the elements that get put into it. I don’t know what else to say, except this book was incredible. It made me want to go visit the Redwood forest near San Fran. I loved all the new characters and I can definitely see a future spin off! (Cue excited squeal)
If you love adventure, suspense and vampires then you’ll want to start reading this series!
I was given an advanced copy for review. Lucky, lucky me. Some authors are an automatic buy; these decisions are made because we have fallen in love with this author's style of writing. Maybe we love the plotting, maybe we want to personally know the characters. If we're lucky these authors have built several worlds for our reading pleasure. And the very best authors make each world just a bit different. Some series are more light hearted, some are more grim. Some combine the two, with grim humor leavening many scenes. Certainly Elizabeth Hunter does not flinch from writing grim. You only need to read the Irin stories...don't forget your handkerchiefs! Within the Elemental World we've seen characters we love tortured in front of us, and some do die. However, the tone of this Elemental Covenant off shoot is lighter. Then again, with Carwyn front and center, how could it be serious for too long? We have some missing young people, some difficult rich people, some suspicious law people. Plus an immortal former priest and an obstreperous gun expert, the light of his world. Carwyn and Brigid are carving a new life for themselves as private investigators of the paranormal world, and they're aligning themselves with some of our old favorites. Of course the story is well thought out, the dialogue natural, and the writing pulls us into an ancient forest. We're set adrift at the ending...WHEN is the next book??? There are so many more stories to be told!
Incredible! That's really all that needs to be said about this book. But I can't stop here. I need to gush a little more. So, here we go.
I have always liked Carwyn and Brigid while reading my way through all the Elemental worlds. And I was looking forward to them getting their own story. The first book in this series was a little slow for my taste but made perfect sense. Two people trying to figure out their life together. And I'm glad to see that they are moving in the right direction.
I loved welcoming back 'old' characters and though we think we know them, Ms. Hunter manages to surprise us (again) with more details about their lives. Please, never stop! We are also introduced to some new characters. While we get plenty of information on them, I am looking forward to the in-depth development of their characters in the future.
The mystery kept me turning the pages as fast as I could. What can I say? I'm a very impatient reader when it comes to EH's books. There is nothing better out there in the PNR world.
To summon it up, we get plenty of action balanced by laugh-out-loud banter. This is another Hunter book not to be missed!
Well! What to say! This is another great story from Elizabeth Hunter - we spend time with many familiar faces which is always delightful and we also meet some new , interesting characters who could pop up in future stories maybe?
There's an adventure in the woods, a young couple to save and Carwyn & Brigid at the centre of it all. It can be quite intense and thrilling at times & seems more menacing than some of the previous books. There's no let up to the action and it keeps you turning pages in tenterhooks.
What I love about the writing is that although some characters share similarities (background, situation, shared characteristics) they are never repetitive - each person is fully fleshed out with individual motivations and choices which make them seem so human despite often being decidedly not!
The story is a fast paced but with the constant thread of love and friendship running through it. It's great to see how this group of people band and stick together with friendships old and new in play.
Read it in one go, highly recommended
*I was lucky enough to win an advance copy to read and enjoy*
Don't be Martyr, I absolutely Promise you will love this book!
Wow.. I love all of Elizabeth Hunters books , and I am so lucky to have been able to read an ARC, but this book felt like a special treat.
If you like your books with adventure and intrigue... If you like your heros to stand up for what's right, to fight for those who need protecting and teach them to fight for themselves .. Then this series of books are for you.
Carwyn is one of my favourites and the play of wits, and jests, love and laughter between him and Bridget is always so fun and heartwarming to read.
This story involves some villains from the past and it is nice to catch up with old acquaintances.... and hope that they get what they deserve :-)
New characters are introduced, and i can not wait to read more about them. I am often amazed at how well written Ms Hunters characters are in such a short space of time, how she can make you feel like you know them and root for them in just a few chapters.
I enjoyed every page of this book and highly recommend it.
There have been several books of Elizabeth Hunter's that have sucked me in from the start. Martyr's Promise blew them out of the water and is one of her best works yet.
The book takes us to the Lost Coast of California and introduces us to Summer and Dani, who I am really hoping we see more of in future books (SO much potential for storylines with Summer!). While the main vampire characters in the Elemental Covenant series are Brigid and Carwyn, we also get a substantial dose of Baojia and Natalie--my favorite vamp couple! Having the two power couples work together in this book made a phenomenal plot line in the story and worked extremely well in context.
The relationships in Martyr's Promise are some of the strongest I've seen in a Hunter book. Brigid and Carwyn are learning how to use their combined powers for good, Baojia and Natalie show us how they have made a family work in the vampire world, and Summer and Dani are resilient and you are rooting for them from beginning to end.
This is an absolute must-read and gets five well-earned stars.
Elizabeth Hunter has a quality not seen in female authors since a long long time. The Bronte sisters or Jane austen is whom I think of when I read her books. Not because of the story;Thats wildly diffrent. but because of the way she describes her characters. The inter personal relationships. For example in this book, two women who are not friends, who have met probably once or twice understand each other perfectly when one says 'he is a sexual predator ' and the other just lifts an eyebrow and says understood. That's what sets her apart. The female brotherhood so to speak. As for this book, it's wonderful penmanship (if we can still call it that in the computers day and age) with an anti-hero that everyone hates, and our favorite hero right from hidden fire days. I was privileged enough to read this book before everyone else got a hand on it. And all I have to say it that's a wonderful example that vampires in a book doesn't mean you can't have a good old mystery / thriller on your hands. Read this book. !!!
Elizabeth Hunter has created such an incredible world and characters with her Elemental Vampires, that I can’t help but want every single one of them to get their own spin-off.
I was not expecting one for Brigid and Carwyn, so I can just be extremely grateful for this gift. I love that each series in this world has its own unique tone. Gio and Beatrice are the mystery and book hunters, Ben and Tiny the treasure hunters and now we get Brigid and Carwyn, the Justice hunters, and I am in LOVE!
Martyr’s Promise is lovely and exciting. We get plenty of action, character development, mystery and the introduction of a new character that I can’t wait to get more of.
If you love Paranormal Romance and just wished you could follow your fave couple’s adventures after their HEA, this is definitely the series and author for you!
I was fortunate enough to to receive n ARC of Martyr’s Promise. This book has left me with a massive book hangover, in all the best ways possible. When I started reading this book, I was completely taken in by how quick the plot and mystery began. I felt like I was right in the mix of this new adventure with Carwyn and Brigid, and new and old friends that joined along the way. This book had me guessing at every turn as to what comes next and who was involved and why. I will be re -reading this book real soon. I love how Elizabeth can combine the Vampire world into Human world with out any flaws.
I am absolutely loving this series with Brigid and Carwyn!! I love not only the mystery and suspense but also the caring and determination that they bring to each case. I love their laughter and playfulness.. to be honest I just adore them both!!! This story was really cool because we got to visit with Baojia and Natalie whom I have missed! Then there’s Katya who I found really cool and hope to see more of.. but the one that really got me was Summer! I absolutely fell in love with her! She is tough, loyal, courageous and her story is not one to miss!
This is the second book in the Elemental Covenant series, a spin-off from the Elemental Mysteries series, continuing the story of vampires Carwyn and Brigid, and their private investigation business.
Their latest case has them in northern California. Summer, a human with ties to a large vampire clan, and her boyfriend, Daniel, have gone missing while hiking in the forest. Suspecting foul play, Carwyn and Brigid are brought in to track the missing humans, and possibly stave off a brewing vampire territory war. But they uncover something far more sinister than they were expecting – a sadistic vampire with an evil plot that involves kidnapping young hikers off the trail.
It’s an exciting adventure, full of intrigue and supernatural badassery. And not only do we see Carwyn and Brigid’s investigation (involving new allies and old), but we also get to see Summer and Daniel’s ordeal, so we get to know them, and watch what they’re going through. I really enjoyed this alternate perspective, and even with us seeing all of the different pieces of the story, there are still surprising twists and turns, and I loved watching the whole story unfold.
I love this world, and these characters, and was so happy to be back with Carwyn and Brigid. They are such a strong force, but they have this playfulness about them that is so much fun, and Carwyn is still so funny. Their love for each other is beautiful, and there’s plenty of swoon and sexy time.
“I adore you,” she whispered. His expression melted into softness, even as he moved his hard body in hers. “My life.” He kissed her forehead. “My wife.”
Fans of this world will love that Baojia and Natalie are along to help out with this case, and of course I loved seeing more of them. And Summer and Daniel’s story was a surprising treat. I really liked them as characters, and I’m hoping we get to see more of them in the future.
This is an exciting mystery story with drama, action, moments of fun, and more than one great romance. I loved being back in this world, and was sucked into the story from start to finish.
Such a great read – 4 stars.
An Advanced Review Copy was generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
This ride was one of suspense and action. The first chapter itself gave me such feels as if I was camping along with Summer and her boyfriend Daniel.
But that night summer feels instinctively something is wrong but goes to sleep. It isn't until later when they are attacked in the middle of the night by unknown people that summer feels her mistake.
But there are waves created when summer goes missing as she belongs to the powerful vampire clan of the mackenzies.
When her father comes to Carwyn and Brigid for their help in finding summer, as not only Carwyn and Brigid themselves are strong vampires but distant relatives, they instantly agree.
But the trouble starts when they are unable to find who is behind this and where they must be. On the other hand summer and her boyfriend are scared by their prisoners not knowing what fate awaits them. If they don't run away fast then there can be consequences.
This one was such a thrilling ride. As the chase continues and yet no clues are found as to Summer's whereabouts things get complicated until when finally they find a lead but have to find out why someone is taking captives.
I was so scared and yet thrilled to see how all the plannings would succeed. Yet amid all this Carwyn and Brigid were simply adorable and I loved how amazing they are togther.
I admired summer's courage and the step she takes to join along in destroying the enemy. What a thrilling ride this one was. ❤️❤️❤️
When the fog rolls in around California’s redwoods and some hikers go missing, Carwyn and Brigid swoop in to try and find them… and hopefully find them alive. This book is perfection! The character development of both old and new is great. Brigid and Carwyn are so different than other couples that you read about, so it was great seeing their fun personalities really shine through in Martyr’s Promise. Heck, even Bigfoot makes an appearance, or does he? Elizabeth Hunter does a remarkable job setting the scene that you will feel like you climbed right into the pages to search and fight side by side with these vampires. Reading Martyr’s Promise will leave you fully engrossed from the first page until the last. Heck, you might even finish it with a strong desire to find a cute little bear cub to snuggle with. I truly enjoyed every page of this book and would give it 10 stars if possible.
This installment in The Elemental Covenant Series is a beautiful combination of mystery, romance, and survival. The smattering of Summer's point of view not only highlighted her strength and conviction of character, it felt like I was being introduced to someone that might become important. We got to know more about the Northern Calofornia vampires, and more than one friendly and adored faces made an apperence.
Carwyn and Brigid are as strong and sure as ever, using their intuition, hard-won skills, and moral compasses to help to bring down a situation that preys on the vulnerable. The chase was thrilling, the steam was epic, and the conslusion was a feat of teamwork with trust that will be hard to surpass.
Martyr's Promise was a captivating story from start to finish. In fact, I finished it in a day because I was so invested that I couldn't put it down. Another triumph for Elizabeth Hunter, and a wonderful read, for sure!
I really enjoyed this book! Elemental Vampire agents, yes please. It was a different sort of read for me and honestly, I'll be reading more.
I adore Brigid and Carwyn. Their love is absolutely timeless and their interactions are captivating and hilarious. I still cannot get over Carwyn's love of Hawaiian shirts.
We follow Brigid and Carwyn as they're called upon to help find two missing humans, Summer and Dani. There are twists and turns and an emotional ending that doesn't disappoint.
I really enjoyed reading this book. This book took me away from my everyday reality for a few hours. It moves along at a great pace which makes for an awesome read. The characters are amazing and you cannot help but fall in love with them, no matter what they may do or what may happen. This book is a must read that needs to be on your TBR list.
