Quick read ✔
Standalone, part of a series ✔
Double POV ✔
Badass female heroine ✔
Friends-to-lovers / second chance romance ✔
Steam 🔥🔥

This was my first book by Lacey Carter Andersen. Although, this book has its flaws and the ending was a bit predictable, I still enjoyed it. The book moved on a quick pace, the writing was good, the heroine was not a redhead, some steam, HEA - a perfect quick late night read.

Anderson kicks of this new series with a bang with debut author Grey. A departure from her RH stuff. This new series, has all the entertainment and strong storytelling that Anderson is know for. The town of Mist is an intriguing town and perfect for the Vampires who resided in this town. At the heart of the Vampires is Dawn who is forced to live by a different set of rules and make sure to keep themselves safe.
Dawn has always had a shadow on her back. She has always been vary of her gift and her family legacy.
She never had a chance to figure what she wants in life until now.
Blood has power and she isn't prepared for the wild adventure this story takes on. She wants one thing and when she give a second chance yo u know there something brewing.

There are two arcs running in this book a second chance and a sinister twisted plot that related to two leads. I love the burn between these two. Dawn shows a lot resistant even when faced with adversity. Aiden was the perfect other half. He was on his own journey and whilst neither of them expected what had happened. Their second chance was one to read even though it was full of drama and tension.

Anderson creates a world that is full of secrets and is rich . There is a lot unspoken yet there is filling sense we have seen enough to get a picture of this town and the people. This book was explosive about the town and it's history. The descriptions help build up this town that still has a lot to give . Whilst the conclusion is satisfying there is so much to explore and hope the sequel does satisfy those burning desires left after finishing this book.

Dawn is a vampire unlike any other, and Aiden is no longer ‘merely’ human. Will this pair be able to save not only their lives but also the future of everything they hold dear? I read the blurb, and I thought I had an idea of what this book was going to be. I was so very, very wrong. This story exceeded my wildest expectations. Blending the paranormal with romance, political thriller, dystopian, and even a little bit of science fiction. I still have some questions at the end of this book, and I’m desperately hoping to get all of my answers in the books to come.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.

I dived into this book because the blurb sounded so good. I was not disappointed. Dawn is grieving the loss of her twin brother, and she finds out that she is going to be challenged for leadership of the clans. What follows is a great romance, mystery, and science fiction book all rolled into one. While I wish this book was a little longer to develop everything a little more, this was still a great book that I was engrossed in from the beginning to end. It’s also the first in a series, and we are sure to get more development as the series progresses. I’m thinking the next book will have Sammi as the main character, and I can’t wait to learn more about her, too. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

This is book one of the Court of Magic: Vampires of Mist series and sees the main character Lady Dawn Darkmore, part fae, part vampire, has just lost her twin brother Liam, who had been the ruler and leader of the their clan in the city of Mist, a place where humans and supernaturals lived in peace. He had put a magical glamour over the city, making humans believe they were the only race living there, and made life better for the protected humans, as well as the supernatural clans. Peace has reigned and his magic and personality is as a healer and doer of good, finding it easy to bring everyone together. When the twins were born, a seer was brought to their parent’s chamber, to decide her fate. The seer saw a death in her magic, but also a spark of light within her. Her very touch is deadly, but she lost her magic completely after the deaths of her parents. Many see her as weak and there are some who want her ousted from leader of her clan and the city. They have their own ideas about how the city should be run and what they should be able to do with humans in particular, as many still like the old ways and the power they had over other races.
Dawn knows that one clan leader in particular is ready to challenge her for control and she receives some advice about finding a champion. The vision she is shown takes her to a family cabin and a man she grew up with and went to school with in Mist, but who disappeared over a decade ago. She thought Aiden was completely human and she had helped him out when he was a teen. He was one of her only friends but she could never have a relationship with him or any other, due to the darkness inside her. When she comes across him, he is being chased by a large group of shifters, who are not what they seem! They are in fact warlocks from another realm and can take any form. They have been experimenting on humans, trying to make a hybrid human shifter with increased strength, speed and so much more. If they got their way, they would kill all humans, or alter them, not caring how many they kill in their attempts. Aiden has been held prisoner for over a decade and is only one of two hybrids who survived the experiments. He has always loved her, but known he was never a suitable candidate for her, due to his lowly status, He thought she was human as well, but he isn’t anymore and can now see what she is as well.
They would have a chance for love, if she wasn’t so afraid of her deadly touch magic and the darkness inside of her, but the attraction definitely grows between them and they will have to decide whether they can ignore it, when both their lives are in danger and they could be killed at any moment. The wicked clan leader who has challenged her, is one who wants vampires on top and humans to be used as food and entertainment if wanted. He has allowed the experimentation and killing of humans on his lands and even setting a date for the challenge, doesn’t bother to keep to his word, wanting her to marry him and submit to him, or die. He thinks so little of her, he believes she would submit to marrying him, as an alternative to the challenge and a fight to the death! He obviously underestimates her and she learns a few heartbreaking truths about how low he would go, in order to gain overall control of the city. Lots of danger and sadness, but also coming to realise your true potential and overcoming your own fears, for a chance at life and romance, never mind not being alone anymore! A cracking read with two main characters you really relate to and want the best for, just as they face more danger. I can’t wait to see what is going to happen net in this series. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Chosen by Blood is a paranormal romance with a guaranteed HEA. Chosen by Blood takes readers into the Court of Magic and introduces readers to the Vampires of Mist. The author does an excellent job with this book and I’d love to read more of the Court of Magic characters. Starting with 28 years ago, the author develops a fascinating foundation with the birth of two children, who are twins. While this story makes a point of mentioning the twins and the differences between them, the author only focuses on the “dark” twin, Dawn, her life moving forward after the loss of her brother and another character, Aiden.
Chosen by Blood is well written and the author does an excellent job, once again, at capturing my attention from the first page and keeping me engaged throughout the story. There really isn’t a dull moment in this book. While this story begins with the birth of the children, after moving forward in time, we are introduced to another character who will play a crucial part in helping Dawn stay alive. There is quite a bit going on in this book. Dawn is dealing with the loss of her brother, but she must deal with the dangers of a fellow vampire who aspires to change how things are. Then there is Aiden. He has been abducted and experimented on for three years. You can only imagine what he’s been through, but I love that he’s determined to stop others from being put through what he was made to suffer.
I really enjoyed reading this book and it is an absolute page-turner of a novel. I wouldn’t have said no to a bit more detail in places, but all in all, I can easily say this book is one to pick up if you are a fan of this author. I’m really hoping that there will be more books to come from the Court of Magic. I’m rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. So well written, gives you a HEA, and a hint that there might be more to come with new characters branching off from this one.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "CHOSEN BY BLOOD". EXCELLENT book by Lacey Carter Anderson/Melanie Grey together they wrote one fascinating interesting, intriguing, suspense filled drama, secrets, betrayal, passion, twists you didn't see coming very addicting story from start to finish.
Dawn DarkMore's life has been filled with grief, guilt, loss, heartache, the only man she ever loved disappeared then the loss of her brother Liam leader of Darkmore Coven was devastating.
Layla was a Seer she told Dawn she needed to find a Champion because she was going to be challenged as leader of the Darkmore this was the prophecy she had to find Aiden.
The supernaturals of the Mist were hidden from the humans Liam had his people following rules & restrictions to make everyone equal not everyone was happy about that Draven Cerberus who challenged Dawn was one of them.
I defintely recommend to get this amazing adventure that holds your interest til the end will Dawn & Aiden get their HEA, can they save her people in the Mist so much happens a few twists & surprises.
I hope there's another book with Sammi who's Dawn's friend who she thought was human but found otherwise gets her own story. AWESOME AWESOME READ!!!!

Oh this one is full of mystery. So in the beginning we are given some information about what happened in the town of Mist. Then we meet Aiden what fate had in store for him. However, that information still holds mystery. We see him going through some rough times and trying to get away from his captors. So lets meet Dawn, who is the head of her house now. She is dealing with a tragedy no one wants to go through. While she is working through this issue there is something else happening. So she finds out that she is being challenged for her position as leader of the vampires. Uh oh this is not good. So what is she going to do. Well she was given some direction and it involves a man to become her Champion. Only the guy she was pointed to is Aiden. She knows him. This is where things start to get gritty. We get a better understanding of Dawn and Aiden and their attraction to each other. Dawn is suppose to have this power that deals death but it is a bit wonky I guess you could say. However Aiden has a mission that he needs to complete before he can help Dawn. Can these two help each other and get a happily ever after. You will definitely need to read this book to find out. It is sooooo good.

I really enjoyed this paranormal romance that had me on the edge of my seat. We follow Dawn and Aiden who are on two separate paths but they are both seemingly connected. There is some romance but also both of them not realizing how the other feels so it is more of missed chances and avoiding touch. There was a nice introduction to this new world that is set more in a dystopian age where the mythical is separated from humans. There is also character development throughout this book that makes you see more into the mind and life of both Dawn and Aiden.

Dawn is trying to keep her clan safe while Aiden is trying to keep humans and others safe. It is interesting to see their growth together as well as find themselves along the way. I feel this is a gripping story that has plenty of twists that you don't see coming and will keep you on your toes. I am dying to see what will happen next. Be prepared for some laughs, groaning at the characters for their missed signs, and hanging on for the ride. You get to see some interesting shifters as well as some cunning vampires in what I feel to be a well rounded story.

Reunited ? . . .

When Dawn first met Aiden, he was human, at a time when humans were protected and forbidden to the supernaturals. So she let him go. She never knew he was kidnapped by a warlock from another realm and made part of the experiment, which had so far failed, of creating hybrid humans. He woke on a metal table as the cackling warlock began the attempt to change him. The last he knew was the burning and his own screams.

Time has passed and Dawn has lost everyone, even now grieving the loss of her twin brother, Liam. Now she finds out that she will be challenged for leadership of the vampire clans. She must find a specific shifter to be her champion. Her champion will turn out to be Aiden – the man who used to be human when she knew him. Will they get a second chance to fall in love now that he is no longer human? Will he even survive the challenge she needs him to win?

*May Contain Spoilers*

I like everything about this story, it’s too bad this can’t be a series. I like that there is a strong FMC and MC. The FMC is not a whiny person or thinks she’s too badass that it made her arrogant and not likable. She knows to stand her ground and step up for what she feels is right. I like that she’s not dumb either.

The best part for me is the MC. Why? Because we finally have someone who’s not some rich and powerful alpha who is undefeatable, saving the FMC. There is no fairy tale story where the guy is to save the girl. In this story, he’s the one who needs saving. But this doesn’t mean he’s weak either. No. He’s also badass too. I like that it’s the other way around for once.

I like both the main character’s backstories. I just wish it wasn’t standalone so we can get to know them both better and extend their stories more.

Great opening book to a new series.
Dawn was born under unusual circumstances and with a gift that is more like a curse. After losing the last member of her family, she is facing an unexpected challenge, and to get a chance at turning the odds back into her favor, she needs to have her champion by her side - if only it wasn't someone she has very complicated feelings towards..
Not a typical vampire story, especially with the element of alien spaceships added. The drama and plot twists are a bit predictable but written well enough that if a reader does not expect an extremely complicated and intricate story, they will be satisfied. Aiden and Dawn are interesting characters that are easy to connect with, and the supernatural creatures appearing in the book are somewhat unique, creating the whole atmosphere of tension, darkness, and terror. I really enjoyed this first book and am looking forward to the second. Can be read as a standalone as the series seems to consist more of standalone books in the same world.

An exciting paranormal romance read

Dawn, a natural born vampire, is in need of a champion for a challenge and seeks out Aiden, a human that was experimented on, based on a vision from a seer. As the story progresses their initial meeting is filled with danger, their pasts are more connected than they think, and just making it to the challenge is in question for them both. Lacey Carter Andersen has branched out with Melanie Grey from her standard reverse harem romances into regular romance in style. Chosen by Blood is an exciting paranormal romance read set in a great world where humans are a small group protected from being preyed upon by supernatural beings. I am interested to see in there will be more books coming from this author duo in this world.

I read this book with my Kindle Unlimited subscription and I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.

A great new series by Lacey Carter Andersen and Melanie Grey. A story starting with twins, a prophecy for each, subsequent loss and personal trials for both Dawn and her love interest, Aiden. The main story is set in the town of Mist that is supposed to be supernatural beings free, but the leading vampire family lives among them unknown. Add in vampires looking to usurp the title of leader, and warlocks trying to gain a key to leave back to their own realm and the adventure pulls you in. Can the main characters find the strength they need to accomplish their goals and win the challenges from their enemies in time to save the people of Mist? Read to find out! Looking forward to book 2.

This book was a fab read, it pulled me in a refused to let me go, so I finished it in one go. I loved it unique take on vampires, and how the characters grow and develop.

Dawns story is one of grief and heart ache after losing not only her parents but her opposite and twin in unusual circumstances.

I totally loved the prophecy element, twins born, one full of light and life, and one full of death and destruction, although when Dawn's twin dies she's loses her darkness, her standing in the game she's trapped in has changed.

With the help of a lost love Aiden and a bond deeper and stronger than they realise, are they enough together to lead and survive what is to come.

Loving this new series. A realm where humans aren’t the top predator. There are vampires, shifters, fae and so many more. But like humans some are good and some are bad. The bad want to make humans no more than cattle. The good risk their lives to protect them and have some form of order in all the chaos. The two main characters are definitely on the good side. Dawn is a unique vampire that also has fae blood. She finds herself fighting those who should be her friends and allies to protect her town and the humans in it. Aiden is part of her past and now her possible future. He suffers his own pain but would do anything for her.

After losing her twin brother, Dawn the only one remaining of the Darkmore family is set to rules over the vampires living in the town of Mist. But nothing will be easy for her. Losing her power years ago , you'll need to read to find out, Someone find the opportunity to challenge her for the position of clan leader. To help her win she needs to find a champion to fight on her behalf. Loved the story it was quite an original take of some of the supernatural beings pictured in this book. Only wish it would have been a longer read. Can't wait to read the next installment of this series. Happy reading!!

This book had me from the start, it's absolutely brilliant. I love the whole concept of the story. From the vampire Dawn to the hybrid Aiden and even the place where Dawn is now in charge. The book starts sad with a death in the family for Dawn, she's heartbroken but she knows she needs to pull herself together to keep those she's in charge of protected. And of course, it's not just as easy as taking over, people don't want her in charge and they will do what they can to stop her.

I was so engrossed in this story from the start that I just kept turning the pages and I was so sad when I got to the end and there were no more pages to turn. So, so good!

A hidden gem. The book opens with an ominous vision that sets an ambiguous premise for the story. We’re then brought to the present day, where events within the vision have come to pass, but the outcome is still an unknown and a further vision adds complications to the mix!
I loved the almost dystopian setting. Humans are being hunted to extinction, but a select, oblivious few remain protected within the town of Mist. I also enjoyed the multiple POVs, particularly as we even get the inner thoughts of the “bad guy”.
I liked that the our two leads had a past and had to figure out the future together.
This was a great read. I highly recommend!

This book was a awesome surprise! I was not sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised! Dawn is a vampire in a town of humans that know nothing about supernatural beings. She loses her parents due to some bad people and her darkness. Since her parents passed, she has lost her touch of death.. Years later she loses her twin brother, the twin of light and life, in a suspicious way. Dawn must find a way to lead the Mist and her coven of vampires to remain intact. Will she find a champion to help her fight her enemies?

Just another brilliant book by Lacey Carter Andersen. Well… as for vampire’s book, it’s completely different than any I have read. Dawn is special, strong, unique. Aiden is unique as well, in a different way. And it’s perfect. The chemistry between Aiden and Dawn are clearly visible and honestly really beautiful. There is mystery, secrets, romance, political issues and lets not forget the elements of science fiction and dystopian’s world. It was really wonderful, I was not able to put it down and I will impatiently waiting for next part. I loved every moment of it.

After reading this blurb who wouldn’t want to read this?? This is a well written, exciting read that just grabs you from the get go as we enter this exciting new supernatural world in the town of Mist! I love Dawn our kick ass heroine and her not so human boyfriend Aiden and their fight to save the people of Mist. There’s some action, there’s some romance, there’s some adventure and it’s gripping and I found myself totally lost in this story it’s that good!

I really loved this book. It entailed realistic emotions of loss, pain, and truly wanting to help others. I would love to read more of this world, and the characters. Dawn is an inspirational leader, wanting to make sure everyone else is safe and taken care of, even while having no hope for her own happiness. She and Aiden are well suited for each other, since his whole goal is only to survive long enough to save the human population, not caring what happens to himself, as long as he succeeds first. This was a fantastic story with amazing characters.

Dawn was a twin born of a Fae and vampire mother vampires weren’t supposed to be able to have children so they were miracles but the seer Layla said that the boy is goodness and the girl is death. The boy won’t have a long life but the seer only saw death for the girl now years later Dawn’s brother has been murdered and now there will be a fight to take over Dawn’s Darkmore Legacy, she has lost her powers so Dawn needs a champion but first she has to go and save his life. Fantastic story I loved it and the characters and I highly recommend this book.

This is a brilliant PNR form a author that normally does RH and I absolutely love this change of genre from her. Its so good i cant begin to tell you how much you need to read this storey!
Dawn and Aiden storey is amazing and if you love the new Hybrid trend going around then this is one for you as Lady Dawn Darkmore is half Dark Fae and Half Vampire who has a reputation of being able to kill just from her touch.
This new paranormal Wold has so much scope for so many more books and i cant wait as these will compete with the best of the best in this genre.

Brilliant read.
There was something different about Dawn from the Moment she was born. He brother was so full of life and healing goodness while she was surrounded by the darkness so much Darkness that she must keep it inside and trapped not to be released.
Aiden a boy from Dawns past must survive and to do this he must control himself and refrain from his urges.
This was a great read,I cannot wait for more.

While the beginning of the Book is a little confusing once the story picks up speed it does get interesting. Dawn is gifted with the touch of death, though she hasn't used the power in several years. She is being challenged for her titled and needs Aiden as a champion. There is deep history there and he has a painful past. Overall a good read and an intriguing world the author is building. I volunteered to read this book via Booksprout.
