I read this book via Kindle Unlimited.

We see Denton go back to the factory alone in this book to find out what the army are hiding in the factory in his town. Sneaking in through a door that leads under the factory, Denton finds rotting carcasses of animals, signs of experimentation and a lab. When he is caught by the general, it's only then he finds out the true horrors of what is going on. Taking it upon himself to win the war, the general has built a monster that will win the war for the North. The only issue is that it needs a human brain to function. Denton is a prime candidate. This is a good penultimate issue for this series, it kept me interested and I'm excited to see how this series concludes next month!

You've probably heard of Felix Galvani, haven't you? That enlightened man was one of the first who arrived here with Jacob, founder of Hailstone. Felix wasn't a proper scientist by modern standards... This mineral, Sheriff, can reanimate and sustain the brain of a recently deceased human. They said he was an alchemist. When his journal fell into my hands years ago, I thought it was only the notes of a mad man. But when I tested it on my first subjects, it became clear that Felix wasn't delusional. It defies death, it defies God!

Hailstone is a a mix of historical fiction, horror, science fiction and suspense.

We enter the town of Hailstone as winter sets into and find that townsfolk keep mysteriously disappearing in the woods.

The Sheriff has managed to once again sneak into the Army's munition factory and is shocked by what he finds there. The General has turned mad scientist and has created a hybrid animal and machine. Unfortunately for the Sheriff he presence is soon discovered and he finds himself in grave danger!

A cracking middle to the story. Onto the final issue! 4 stars.

Great series

I grew up on comic books and as an adult this one has everything that you could ask for. Great story line and likable characters, great work by the writer and amazing work by the artists.

Set in the time of the US Civil War a small-town sheriff must hold together the anxious locals who are suffering from grief, loss and fear.
With its homage to Frankenstein (Mary [Shelley] and her late fiancé Percy [Shelley], Felix Galvani [Galvanism], and Lucy [Westenra, from Dracula]) this Western tale will grip you all the way to its stunning conclusion. ****

#4 – The Method – “There’s no God, here. It’s only electricity – the hidden force of nature that moves our muscles and brains. … I presume you’re familiar with Mary Shelley’s novel, are you?” – Captain Spencer

We finally get a glimpse of the "secret" and it's kind of a let-down. Think "Wild, Wild West -The Movie mixed with Frankenstein.
Less foul language than the first two. Very short. Glad I could read for "free" with Amazon prime because, while the art is good and the story decent [though the language is not always] these comics are just too short for the amount they want you to pay.

Hailstone #4

Dalton is strapped to an operating table, while Tobias tries to rescue him.
Spencer is a crazy, mad scientist type.
