About the author
Timothy Stringer
5 books14 followersA native of Maryland, Timothy or Tim as he is known to friends, grew up in northeastern Maryland. In his teens he was taught how to milk a cow by his grandfather, worked on his uncle's dairy farms, loaded trucks at a local newspaper and worked at one of those fast-food hamburger joints. He entered the Army after high school and never looked back.
He went on to finish degrees in psychology and computer science and never worked in either field. He did work for NSA for eight years after four years in the United States Army. His first marriage failed, the second was very successful till he was left a widower. His third marriage to an incredible husband, he plans to last for the rest of his life. His career changes have ranged from soldier, intelligence officer, retail, graphic design, property management, real estate, and photographer. Throw in there a lifetime of creative output beginning with drawing, graduating to oil, switching to acrylic, then digital and back to acrylic. As a photographer he considers himself primarily a landscape photographer with interests in portrait and dudoir photography.
While in the military he served in Japan, and while with "No Such Agency" he did a three-year tour in Harrogate, United Kingdom. Since then, he has lived in Indiana, Ohio, South Carolina, Delaware, New Jersey and currently makes his home in Pennsylvania. He and his husband have wisely agreed they are too old to have children. They currently share an abode with a Jack Russell Terrier, named Pepper who rules the house.
When not writing or taking photographs, he and his husband love to travel. They have family living in Ukraine, Germany and the United States. Both of them can order beer in multiple languages. Tim would rather have whiskey, single malt on the rocks thank you very much.

The story started off slow, and was dragging, it picked up finally a few chapters in when there was interaction between characters vs this long intro monologue about getting back to daily life after a long "sleep". I felt like that could have been shortened quite a bit, dragged too much for my taste.
Once I was past all that, I found the back stories on Ashetton's life (and a few of the other characters) over the years interesting. The back stories on Asheton's children and the present day story were interesting as well. All like mini stories within the main story.
There was some weird / confusing verbiage where the main character Ashetton would talk about himself in the 3rd person several times in the book. Example "Why, I asked himself, did I ever become involved with a mortal?".
The story was left open for a sequel, it just abruptly cuts off without a period at the end, so I thought something was wrong with my copy of the story but there were not any additional pages. There were a few spelling errors sprinkled in. I would likely read a sequel if one was released.

The story hooked me right away and I felt like it could have a lot of potential but I was frequently distracted by the poor editing. There were many grammatical mistakes that caused me to pause and reread the sentence. The way the story was told also caused slight confusion because you're taken back to the past so completely, that when you come back to the Ashtetton's present, it doesn't make sense and i was thrown, having to remember that this is the same story. The story was left open for a sequel, but I think it should have been included and wrapped up all in one book. I can't see myself reading any sequels.

The potential for this story is there. I just felt that the telling of the story to the lover lessened my reading experience, kept me at a distance from both characters and story. I didn't fully get involved with the characters.

Poorly edited but a good read
Despite the atrocious grammatical errors and a predictable plot, I enjoyed the story of Ashtetton. I hope someone proof reads the next part of this story.
