Two hundred years ago, Vlad lost the love of his life. It doesn't matter that he and Sophie were only sixteen. They had just pledged their lives to one another, but before they could escape their parents' plans for them and start their new life, Sophie was tragically ripped away from Vlad and he's spent the centuries since grieving for her and what they could have had together.

When a man with a connection to Vlad and Sophie's past informs Vlad she's still alive, at least for the time being, Vlad embarks on a mission to bring her home. But he can't do it alone. He knows his only hope is the Order. Unfortunately, the elite warriors are still struggling with the loss of Dante and another's decision to leave. Thankfully, Gabe agrees to help him, though he's determined to find Dante while they're in the demon realm and reunite his spirit and body.

Sophie has no memory of her past life, only remembering the years she's spent surrounded by demons. She and her best friend, Maria, have done all they can to heal the women chosen and used by the lust demons for their own pleasure.

When Vlad and Sophie are reunited, he remembers every moment of their past, and focuses on helping her do the same. She may not know who he is, but something about him calls to her and she's never experienced that before. As for Gabe, the connection to Maria is surprising as he's never allowed any woman to interest him.

However, Sophie refuses to leave without Maria and Gabe insists upon finding Dante. It isn't long before danger finds the four and soon both Sophie and Maria are in mortal danger. But for Maria, there's only one way to heal her and it involves Gabe and the demise of his promise to never give himself, literally, to a woman. But as the signs pointing to Maria being his sheva continually grow, Gabe no longer wants to resist the bond between him and Maria.

Can the two couples escape the demon realm? Will Gabe locate Dante? Will Sophie and Maria survive? Can Vlad protect Sophie from the lust demons determined to have her for their own? Will Sophie ever regain her memories? Does she want to? Will Vlad and Sophie finally get the chance they should've had so long ago? Will Gabe and Maria officially mate? Or will their individual missions take precedence over their happiness?

One-click now and follow along as two people rediscover a love they thought gone forever and two more find the love they were destined for.

Hunt the Darkness, by Stephanie Rowe

I will not divulge any of the plot, the book description explains the scenario with a brief introduction. In this review I will touch upon what this book will bring to you. The novel is an emotional rollercoaster of a read that twines the stories of two strong women with the trials of their destinies.

Anyone familiar with the Order of the Blade series will understand the Calydon challenges, finding their Sheva, only to lose their minds. Readers with knowledge of Stephanie Rowe’s writings will understand they are in for an intense read. But, this book threw me initially with the non-Calydon lead. It still drew me in to the storyline quickly and made me curious to where the story would lead. I loved it. The expectations of the Order of the Blade series made me anticipate certain twists in the plot, but this was different, deeper. Having enjoyed the previous books, I knew I’d shed a tear, laugh aloud, and fall in love. What I didn’t expect was the intensity of the characters or the heart-stopping need to read on, while being slightly scared to do so.

Amazing, intense and a major pull of the heart-strings. Another wonderful piece of writing from the brilliant, Stephanie Rowe.

Hunt the Darkness is an exciting read that keeps readers glued to the pages as they become caught up in an adventure with very strong and compelling characters. Vladimir and is way overdue for their happily ever after and readers join with Vladimir in his quest to find his Sophie who disappeared into the demon realm centuries before. This romance has lots of emotional turbulence that tugs at reader’s hearts and Vladimir and Sophie are two characters that readers can easily connect to which it makes me want to cheer them on, fight alongside them and cry with and for them as well.

Anticipation and suspense builds throughout the story with every exciting twist and turn which let me tell you, there are plenty because Sophie’s life becomes extremely dangerous for her and Vladimir finds himself teaming up with the Calydon Warrior Gabe Watson who finds himself falling for Sophie’s best friend Maria whose building romance has its own complications and lucky for us readers we get two romances in one that are both filled to the max with sizzling attraction and some red hot passion that heats up the pages and made me have to turn on the fans.

Stephanie Rowe has created a fascinating world that is full of unique and intriguing elements as well fascinating characters which she brings to vibrant life with well written words that make it easy for readers to picture each and every scene and connect with the characters. Luckily for me, the books can be read without having read all the previous books in the series because it seems I have missed a few (I will have to take care of that asap), but don’t get me wrong, just because it can be enjoyed that way, I do believe that reading the previous books would really build up the understanding of just how the Calydon world works.

Hunt the Darkness is the eleventh book in the Order of the Blade series and one of my favourite books of the series so far. It follows two couples, Gabe and Maria and Vlad and Sophie, so you get twice the warrior goodness. It may have been a long time coming, but Hunt the Darkness was definitely worth the wait, Stephanie Rowe did not stop until she could publish perfection.

Vlad and Order member Gabe join forces and become brothers in arms when they enter the demon realm, Vlad to rescue his wife Sophie who he believed died 200 years ago, and Gabe to recover the body of Order leader Dante. While she has been in the demon realm, Sophie has become best friends with half-demon Maria, and they have made it their mission to save women being poisoned by demons. The two strong and independent women have spent hundreds of years fearing males, so they are not going to trust Gabe and Vlad easily. However, when lives are at risk and they all have to rely on each other, Vlad and Gabe soon prove themselves to be loyal, formidable warriors that will stand by them whatever the cost.

Action packed and full of emotion and passion, Hunt the Darkness has everything I have come to expect from an Order of the Blade book, only this time, I had twice the romance. The relationship between the two couples was very different but both were very intense and real. Vlad and Sophie were best friends, married at sixteen when there was a certain childhood innocence, and then separated for two hundred years. When they were reunited and Sophie regained her memory, theirs was a second chance romance, they were meant to be and no amount of time or even a different realm could keep them apart. With Gabe and Maria it was an intense coming together of two strangers who were soulmates, she was his Sheva and he recognised the connection immediately. I loved both the romances and was on the edge of my seat, wondering how everything was going to work out and if both couple's were going to get their HEA.

From the first page I did not want to put Hunt the Darkness down. The story was so compelling and I was just drawn into the action straight away. The ending took me completely by surprise and I did not see it coming at all. With it's amazing characters and absolutely brilliant story, I could not have asked for more.

I received an ARC of Hunt the Darkness in exchange for an honest review.

Slight spoilers ahead

I received a copy from Netgalley for a free and honest review.

That being said, when I elected this book for possible reading, I was unaware that this book was in fact book eleven in the series. Netgalley did not indicate this on the page nor did it appear anywhere in the book’s description. To that fact, I’d actually rate this book as a 2.75.

Surprisingly, I found that despite being book eleven, I followed the story rather easily. World building took a back seat to the story and I do wonder if perhaps somewhere in the previous ten books there might have been some better insights to the two male leading characters and the world that they lived in.

This story started off interesting enough. Each character seemingly was strong and confident as they worked their way towards their goals. But that changed not far into the story.

Take for instance Sophie. I can’t believe that after two hundred years in a demon world she’d be that naive. At first, it wasn’t noticeable. But after she meets her leading man, she starts making really bad decisions. On top of that, the constant back and forth from of, “I’m not leaving without the other women” and “Not without Maria” got old pretty fast. The back and forth bantering on this one particular subject from Sophie to Maria, from Vlad to Sophie, from Maria to Gabe, and from Gabe to Vlad about “Not leaving without retrieving Dante’s body,” was toxic to say the very least.

Then there were Vlad and Gabe, our two leading male characters. By the way they acted and were described in the beginning of the book; you’d think that they were skilled and tough enough to handle at least fighting off demons and rescuing the female leads without too many difficulties. They barely pulled off defeating the lowest level of the demon hierarchy.

But the one thing that turned me indifferent to this story was the sexual components- or mainly the ill timing of them. One scene with Gabe and Maria, they were going at foreplay hot and heavy. I was feeling it. The book was feeling it. Everything was right there for the taking. And then... nothing. Well not quite nothing. Gabe and Maria had to engage in a six page talk-fest that left me dry and uncaring about the two to continue on with the scene. Talk about stalled sex appeal. Not to mention, Maria is a lust demon who needed to recharge quickly in order to heal Sophie from the brink of death by poison from a demon’s scratch. But no. Let’s stop and have an intimate feeling conversation. Let’s talk about all our deep feelings and what those mean to each other. After less than twelve hours, I think we can skip the prose of love and future outcomes and just get it on so you can save your so called friend from dying any minute. Priorities were seriously lost on this group.

Overall, it wasn’t a bad story from 75% of what I read. I expect that reading the first ten books in this series would have made this experience better. The scenes were fine, though I would have liked more detailed world building- however not to be confused with excessive overuse of descriptive adjectives on randomly unimportant and useless things that have nothing to do with the story. That would have given me a better inner mind view of what the demon realm looked like overall. Basically, I was only shown selective scenes of the demon world and not a general atmospheric panoramic view of the place.

Would I recommend this book? Eh... maybe. But then again, Fifty Shades of Grey and Outlander wasn’t my thing either.

OMG I loved this story so full of passion. This is the story of Vladimir and his Sophie as well as Vlad's brother in arms Gabe and his sheva Maria. When Vlad was a 16 year old Prince he married Princess Sophie his best friend to save her life but when both of their respective parents threw them to the demons to save their kingdoms he thought he lost Sophie. Sophie has been in the demon realm for 200 years making lust demon Maria her best friend she has no recollection of Vlad. Vlad believes he has failed Sophie until the former mage of his kingdom tells him he wasn't ready then. He turns to the Order of the Blade believing that Dante may help instead he finds Gabe and convinces him to show him how to enter the demon realm. Gabe finds his sheva there.

This is all I will reveal of this story just enough to whet the appetite. This is my second Ms. Rowe story and I am truly amazed by the depth of emotion and passion she gives her stories. I definitely recommend this to shifter lovers everywhere.

I voluntarily read an advance copy.

This is a tale of two loves and although I don't usually like those as I feel that often one of the couples loses out, in this case it was not a problem at all.

Vlad lost his love two hundred years ago when he and Sophie were only 16. They had married in secret the previous night and through a series of events they were parted. Vlad was under the impression that his love had died but instead she has spent the past two hundred years existing in a realm of demons where she has been protected both by an ability to disappear when a demon male tries to touch her and also her lack of memory of her life before. She and her best friend Marie spend their time saving unfortunate females who have been poisoned by repeat exposure to demon sperm. Marie is the second h in this tale and she is the Sheva of Gene (who is the temporary leader of the Order of the Blade). Marie is half lust demon and half human and hates the fact that she is forced to have sex in order to maintain her healing powers.

A chance (?) meeting with a magical individual lets a very bitter and tormented Vlad know that his beloved Sophie did not in fact die but that she is in grave danger (which he would have known if the magical person hadn't hotfooted it away ofter he performed the marriage ceremony for Vlad and Sophie all those years ago and if he had told them the trick of the rings...), Vlad realises that he needs the help of people from the Order of the Blade and so acquires the help of Gene. Gene is a very serious individual who has a strict policy of celibacy (and has had for 1000 years) but he agrees to help Vlad in return for help finding the body of the fallen leader of the Order (its OK if you haven't read the earlier books but it does help). The tale continues with the reuniting of Vlad and Sophie and the meeting and falling in love of Marie and Gene.

The story is well constructed and involves the interaction of the many characters seamlessly. The author manages to give each couple time to interact and for each character to develop in a very well formulated manner.

I would recommend this book and look forward to reading the next.

This book was provided to me as a ARC from the publishers via NetGalley. Thank you for the opportunity to review.

Admittedly, I’ve jumped around in this series quite a bit. That being said, I was able to join this storyline, already in progress, without any issues. It was filled with demons, warriors, and a time-crossing love story.

Vlad is a jerk. Sure, he spends his time saving kids from whatever they get themselves into, but he is still mostly unhappy with life. It all stems from his childhood, where he feels he should have been able to save the love of his life from being killed by demons. Or so he thought. Turns out, Sophie actually survived falling into the demon world, although she has suppressed all memory of it. She’s made her own way in this horrible world, developing a magical defense against the demons who look to use her. She’s also found a calling and spends all her time trying to rescue women from their demon lovers.

Rescuing Sophie turns out to be exactly the motivation that Vlad needed to apologize to the group of warriors he screwed over in recent history. As they are the only ones that can help him find demons, he reluctantly teams up with Gabe, one of the last remaining warriors. It’s clear that this is a turning point for them, and it was interesting to watch the dynamics both between Gabe and his team and Gabe and Vlad (his new team). Of course, we also go to watch Gabe fight (a little) the fated bond that begins to develop soon after arriving and meeting Sophie’s BFF.

All in all, this book had all the key elements of an epic paranormal romance. There was even a happy ending that seemed to satisfy just about everyone involved (and there were lots of people involved). Reading this book made me want to go back and fill in the gaps. With writing like this, how could you not?

Vlad and Sophie were teenage sweethearts. On the very day they planned to ecape their parents, they were ripped apart. Vlad has spent the last few centuries grieving for the love he lost. When he is informed that Sophie is still alive, but now trapped in the Demon world, he is determined to save her.

Sophie cannot recall much of her life before she appeared in the Demon world. So far she has dodged the attentions of the more forceful demons and she and her friend Maria have formed an "underground railroad" to help those females trapped by demons to escape death. But when she and Vlad are reunited she feels a spark of recognition.

Vlad tries to help Sophie recall their love, whilst Gabe is attracted to Maria, something he vowed he would never do. But in order to escape Gabe is going to have to break his sacred vow to himself and assist Maria, who it appears may be his Sheva!

Great story!

I have missed a few of the Order of the Blade Series by Stephanie Rowe. Still it did not hinder my enjoyment of Hunt the Darkness. Each book has a haunted soul in search of redemption, this time it is Calydon warrior Gabe Watson and mage Vladimir Hawkings.

The book gives us not just one strong male out to change the past which would then affect the present but two. Along with them are two females, who are survivors, loyal and gutsy. Their story is not a predictable one. A wonderful story of lost love reclaimed, loyalty, danger, suspense. The evil is real in this book as well as the consequences that follow when it succeeds. Hunt the Darkness is a remarkable paranormal read.

Gabe and Maria plus Vlad and Sophie

Another great addition to the series.
In this book we get two couples.

Gabe is on a mission to find Dante's body so his soul can return.

Vlad has been living his life saving children for the past two hundred years. Ever since the love of his life died. Her parents sacrificed her to save their town.
After all this time Vlad finds out she isn't dead and sets out to find her in the demon realm, but know he needs help. He finds Gabe and they work together. Dante's body is also being kept in the demon realm.

Once in the demon realm they come across a demon and are quickly in trouble. Luckily Maria and Sophie are there to help.

Together the four of them have plenty to overcome to reach their hea.
It's so worth it.
I can't wait for the next one

Love these Calydons.

I have to say I love this series. I can not get enough of these Calydon warriors. These guys will make your toes curl.

I loved both Gabe and Vlad in this story. They have completely different views on things but they stand together as a team when it matters.

They venture into the Demon realm to rescue Vlads girl but Gabe has his own agenda for helping Vlad.
Things are never straight forward though and Gabe gets a lot more than he bargained for when he sets out on this mission.

Fantastic story that kept my attention throughout. Like I already said I love these books, this is a fantastic series for any PnR fans. I'm really excited for the spin off series. It's going to be amazing.

Since Hunt The Darkness is part 11 in the Order of the Blade series, I sometimes felt like I was missing something, probably what happened in one of the books 1 to 10. However, the story of Sophie and Maria in the demon world is very touching and full of suspense. When Vladimir (Vlad) and Gabe team up to go into the demon world to save Sophie, Vlad's long lost wife, you just feel Vlad's pain and anger of having failed Sophie all those years ago. Can Gabe and Vlad save Sophie? And how will Maria cope with the loss of Sophie?
Hold your breath and find out in this stunning story full of danger, love, demons and determination. Five out of five stars from me and I'll think I'll start on the rest of the series as well. Thank you Netgalley for providing the arc.

Wow! This Order of the Blade sequel has far more intricacies, complex emotions, and characters than in the past reads. Loved the introduction of other supernatural beings and the evolution of the Order...leads to so much more possibilities and explorations to the other character stories, Damon, Lucien, Rikker, the female additions, Dante's second chapter, and now the Order of the Night spin off! Even though the Original Order is evolving the theme of suffering and redemption continues resonate in each new character. Super excited to read what and who comes next!!
Stephanie Rowe is one of few authors that has kept me interested in reading a book series. She does not disappoint!

It's been a while since I read an OOTB book, but the world was quite vivid in my memory. But with this one, you don't really need to know too much about the Calydons since most have a very peripheral role in this book. Yes, you do get two storylines for the price of one, which is nice. But the formula seems to be running a bit dry for me. I wanted more meat in these stories, and instead got more superficial sexual angst and frustration, convoluted relationships and lots of plot holes. I would like to see these get back on track to the fate of Dante and his son, and am looking forward to Thano's new side story with Rohan and his crew. This one just didn't do it for me.

It was alright. It was a bit too saccharine for my taste at times, and even the sexy scenes just missed the mark for me. Even two couples at the focal point of the plot didn't make it better - both men were the typical paranormal uber-alpha. Being ripped is not a personality trait! I've seen versions of this cookie-cutter PNR hero a million times so forgive me if I'm huffy. I'd never read any of Stephanie Rowe's work before so maybe these just weren't the characters for me. Outside of the characters' personality (or lack thereof), the plot and world-building were pretty tight, so that kept me going to the finish line.

If you're looking for twists and turns as well as great storyline that you keeps you guessing then this is the book for you, especial if you are a fan of the Order of the Blade series. New characters, new journeys, intense scenes that leave you tossing and turning at night, if you get any sleep that is, this is a great novel setting the scene for hopefully many more in this series to come! I especially enjoyed the interaction of the sister like friends fighting for a good cause making this more than just a para romance but a feel good book as well!

I must saw I didn't see the end coming. From the first word to the last I was captivated, yes Vlad was able to rescue Sophie but the trials they had to endure was heartbreaking, I cried when I though all was lost. The shocker was Gabe and Maria, yes we get two intense love stories. The drama and sacrifice, I don't want to give the plot away but this is a must read, we see the order fighting for something different but also worthwhile. I volunteered to read an ARC and loved every second

Wow!

I've been an Order of Blade fan from the get go. Hunt the Darkness book 11 took such new heights it blew me away. Mixing together all the Old and New giving questions that are not answered. As well as bringing out such a new vivid light or maybe I should say darkness.. Either way this book has me giddy with excitement. What a turn of events I'm chomping at Apolos bit for the next books to come!!!!! Well done just does not cover how good this book was.

So...wow! Another great book Stephanie Rowe. This is one of my favorite series, and every book just gets better and better!
I don't want to give away spoilers, but I will say this, this book is a two for one story. There are two main characters and they are great together! Both on a mission to find a person they love. They must venture into the demon realm to get Vlad's wife/soulmate who has been stuck there for 200 years. Gabe agrees to go if they can get Dante back; however his role takes a bit of turn.
This story is full of adventure and excitement, it will have you laughing and crying, but the one thing it will never do is leave you disappointed! This is an amazing book! I highly recommend it. It is book 11 in a series but you don't need to read them in order to get the just of what's going on but series books are always better when read as a series 😳

What can I say? Wow what a great book! Vlad and Gabe are terrific together. They performed like an oiled machine. Sophie and Maria also needed and worked well together. And each steamy couple boiled on the pages. A fantastic read. It may have taken longer for Stephanie to write this book but it was well worth it.

This book has a lot going on –demons, half demons, princesses and other supernatural beings. Mostly, it has romance and enduring friendships that bind the characters. I’m a fan of the author and this book continues to demonstrate her ability to tell a story that draws the attention of the reader and keeps it close.

Gobbledegook

This author knows how to make a steamy scene, but that’s the best of what she does. Her characters swing wildly from lust to anguish, and back to lust again again, and back to anguish again, so quickly it gives you whiplash. The melodrama is repetitive and ridiculous. Then there’s the big battle and HEA, the end. Repeat.
