Bluestocking Battalion #4

Miss Rebecca's Rebellious Viscount

Rate this book
Alternate cover edition of ASIN B09BGVSTWG

For once the most obedient Jones sister means to cause trouble. She'd likely succeed, too...if only a certain overprotective viscount would get out of her way.

A season in London is everything Miss Rebecca Jones has ever dreamt it might be. The gowns, the balls, the gentlemen callers. Why, even the oh-so-proper Viscount Bardon flatters her with his attentions. Only for show, of course, and merely as a favor to her family, to whom he is indebted.

But chasing her through the streets of London while she seeks out her estranged mother? Surely that is going above and beyond. She'd like to rid herself of her self-appointed guard, but then again, when he distracts her with kisses it's hard to recall where the real adventure lies. With the gang of pirates...or in her viscount's arms.

This is another enjoyable romance in the Bluestocking Battalion series. Kicking over the traces, Rebecca Jones strives desperately to overcome the legacy of her mother's wild ways. Unfortunately, she cannot help herself and when she gets the opportunity to pursue the truth regarding her mother, she barrels into the immovable and intractable Viscount Bardon. Despite Maxwell's attention to duty and the demands of his father's estate, he is nevertheless tired of the empty-headed chits vying for his attention. Discovering Miss Rebecca in the garden after dark, obviously on a mission, he feels honor-bound to keep her safe. As Rebecca follows the leads that take her to her mother's hideout, Maxwell becomes more and more entrenched in the Jones family's problems. I love the interaction between Rebecca and Maxwell, and especially that he was so out of his depths with the lively Rebecca who makes it perfectly clear that she has no designs on him. Although part of a series, this romance is a standalone and comes to a sweet and romantic conclusion. I received a copy of this novel as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

A season in London is everything Miss Rebecca Jones has ever dreamt it might be, so she’s thrilled to spend time with her Aunt. Even the oh-so-proper Viscount Bardon flatters her with his attentions. Only for show, of course, and merely as a favour after all he is her sister’s brother in law. But Maxwell finds himself intrigued by the Jones sister who doesn’t have designs on him.
This is the fourth Jones sister to find love & it could easily be read on its own. A well written, fast paced book with lovely characters. I loved both Rebecca & Max, she's a joy & her antics had me smiling but on a more serious note she had to see her pirate mother for answers to questions, which had been eating away at her for years. Max is upright, proper & a tad arrogant until he finds himself caught up in Rebecca's antics, which make him feel alive. I love the chemistry between the pair also their verbal banter was very entertaining. A delightful book, which I read in a sitting.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Maggie Dallen proves once again that you don't need a steam in a book to make a good romance. Miss Rebecca's Rebellious Viscount is proof of that. It was such a delightful book and can be read in an afternoon. I received this book as a gift and have chosen to leave a review.

This story had lots of cool things including a pirate mother, siblings, stuffy pretend friends, confrontation, willing to risk everything and of course the journey to HEA. I definitely recommend this book and the others in the series.

Rebecca Jones is the most obedient of the Jones sisters but she is also a dreamer and a romantic with a heart that longs for adventure but she fears that her adventurous heart might lead her astray just like her mother. When the chance for a season something she always dreams of falls into her lap so does the chance to seek her estranges mother but will seeking out her pirate mother give her the peace and answers she seeks or will she drag the surly Viscount Bardon down into a scandal. Maxwell doesn't make the best impression on Lady Rebecca neither the first time nor the second time but that doesn't stop him from thinking of her. Now for the first time without work to occupy his time he isn't sure what to do with himself but the time has come to find a wife and Rebecca is the only one on his mind. Will Rebecca be able to look past their first meeting and their different social standings?

Loved Maxwell's character he starts out proper and stuffy but for Rebecca is the perfect match and she brings him the adventure that he needs. Rebecca's mother's abandonment hit her hard and it's lovely to have her mother pop up more in the story and see a side of her that isn't expected. This was a great read and can't for the next book.

Voluntarily read and reviewed an arc of this book.

Rebecca is the dutiful most suited for a season in London but a letter calls to her adventurous spirit she has been tapming down. Viscount Bardon, Maxwell, brother to Sebastian (that readers meet in previous book Miss Sally's Unsuitable Soldier), is enchanted by Rebecca after bumping into in the gardens of his father's ball but tries to repress it as he believes as the eldest son, emotions are not a luxury allowed to him yet Rebecca turns that all upside down. Rebecca's world has been turned upside down ever an her unexpected meeting in previous book and some family secrets were revealed changing what she use to want (romance, love, marriage) and leaving her with some question she needs answered during her stay in London with her aunt.
I enjoyed reading Rebecca and Maxwell's story with their interactions with great dialogue and intertwining this story with previous story of Sally's.

What to say about the fourth of five books about the daughters of the Navy Captain assigned to shore duty for the last 10 years rearing his children alone to be educated, independent young ladies? Just that Dallens story-telling abilities are first class. Every character is different but true. Every plot is unique but fits the world she has built! This is the tale of Rebecca, who recognizes her adventurous and outgoing spirit inherited from her mother probably means she was the 'trouble' maker that caused her mother to leave their home to be a pirate captain. Of course, she must protect the earl's firstborn son from the scandals of her family. But SURPRISE, although Maxwell hates them, he has one big one planned for her that the readers will thoroughly enjoy!

This was a very sweet story about Miss Rebecca Jones and Maxwell, Viscount Bardon. These two were total opposites. She’s bright and bubbly always looking for adventure. He’s boring, but a good kisser. LOL

When he follows her to where her mother is staying, he’s dismayed that she would go to that part of town alone and so late at night. He’s very protective of her and he can’t figure out why. Rebecca even though she has feelings for Maxwell, doesn’t think they would make a good match because of her mother being a pirate. What Maxwell does to prove her wrong was so amazing and sweet you had to fall for him yourself. Very nice story and I would recommend it to others.

I have taken issue with the cost of these small novellas, but I've bought them on the strength of the characters and writing. This book has disappointed me...it both needed a good editor and ! I'm going to cross my fingers and read the last book, but whether I will invest further in this author's works remains in the air...

Honestly, Maxwell and Rebecca's story is so similar to the last 2 installments it's hard to tell the difference.
Every man is instantly attracted to a respective sister and internally calls her "home".

"he had to make one thing clear to her first. He might be her family, and she was certainly his. But no way in hell was he her brother—practically or not."

I still enjoyed it. 😏

Whoa, this story was so good. A stodgy viscount and a pirate’s daughter - that can only spell trouble but for whom? I love the rebelliousness of Rebecca but also her thinking about the viscount’s reputation. This story is really great fun. Maggie writes a clean story that is so much fun. It is all about the storytelling.

I received a complimentary copy from the author.

Rebecca is so much fun in the other stories. I felt let down by her character in this installment for whatever reason. It was still an enjoyable read. She is lively and engaging. If we didn't get to read Viscout Bardon's point of view, he would read as a terrifying stalker man. I love that we read both protagonists' points of view in this series.

Rebecca

Loved this book. The characters come to life. The change we witness with Maxwell sets the romantic tone of the story and let’s us see the Becca she has buried from fear of being like her mother. Of course, we get a dose of the pirates and see how the sisters have misjudged their aunt. All around excellent story.
