Glitter Every Day: 365 Quotes from Women I Love

Rate this book
From New York Times bestselling author and host of Bravo's Watch What Happens Live Andy Cohen, a quote-a-day collection from divas, housewives, and larger-than-life celebs that will inspire and brighten, so you too can remember that every day needs a little glitter

Andy Cohen has made a career, and a life, out of making the ordinary extraordinary. In Everyday Glitter, Andy gathers his most loved, laughed at, and needed words of daily inspiration, affirmation, and (just enough) intoxication to make any ordinary day shine bright.

Whether it's Cher telling us, "The better I look, the better gay men feel" (yep!), or Sonja Morgan reminding us age is truly just a number with "It wasn't a walk of shame. It was a victory lap at my age," each bit of Everyday Glitter will infuse your day with a laugh, a pep talk, and a shot(ski) of fun. Alongside these 365 curated sayings and quotes, Andy writes about the people and experiences that have made him live one of the most over-the-top, joyous, and exciting lives that any little boy growing up in St. Louis could dream of. And like Andy himself, this collection is irresistible.

Everyday Glitter reminds us all to take time to appreciate the fun in life as only Andy can. So, pour a drink, put on your heels, and always remember to let yourself shine.

I thought this would be a cute, easy ready with fun little stories about the women mentioned... it was just OK. A lot of the same women were repeated throughout. I did enjoy some of them, but this could had the potential to be so cool, and it really just felt like something that was pumped out to make a quick buck.

I don't know what I expected, but I did not expect what the book was. It's literally one quote per day starting on Jan 1. I guess I was hoping for Andy's analysis or an anecdote to accompany each quote. This might also be better if it weren't a book but maybe a desk calendar where you tear off a page/quote each day.

I saw this book at the library and I HAD to buy it. Once I started reading it, I couldn't wait to read it every day for a year. Instead, I had to read page after page for every giggle and thought provoking moment. I suspect you will strongly agree too ❤️

I mean....it's a quote a day book, so it's a little hard to review. But I enjoyed it as someone who enjoys Andy Cohen and pop culture. He has little blurbs under each quote sometimes pertaining to the quote or the person the quote comes from. It made me chuckle a few times and was fairly quick to get through. It wasn't one I felt I'd need to buy, but it did it's job and entertained. Points for having quotes from housewives, Chrissy Teigen, Goldie Hawn, Miley Cyrus, and, of course, Evelyn Cohen.

Eh, it was good for a long car ride for which this was the only book. I wouldn't recommend and sometimes I would skip over what Andy had to say because it was never really worth it.

Personality Andy Cohen gives us 365 quotes from famous women that are empowering, inspiring, or just sage words of advice....
From Mae West to Meryl Streep, Bette Davis to Oprah, and everyone in between....here is a collective book of quotes, with Andy's personal take on each.
Each quote is also followed up with a unique factoid about the person, story behind the quote, or a major impact on this particular woman's career.

While I liked many of them, I personally could have done without the Real Houses (offering their own quotes) or 1 particular person he does quote once, but I won't say who or when, but the book put a sour taste in my mouth after I read that name.

I was compelled to keep reading, just to see what Cohen and his colleagues came up with or who they would quote next. So if you know your movies, t.v., reality television, writers or readers, you'll enjoy this book.

I mostly read this because I thought it would be fast, and it... is?, but it's also very samey, especially when read in one sitting like isn't really intended. I'm through today (as of this writing, July 19) though, for the purposes of at least STARTING the review. If I keep the book and read one a day as designed, I'll see if that changes my impression.

Each "day" follows the same format:
- Month (for the first)
- Day (number), Month (name)
- quote
- quoted woman*
- commentary from Cohen
- factoid related to the day of the month and/or quoted woman

The quotes range wildly in quality and lean heavily toward The Real Housewives in content. Like, I didn't keep a solid count, but easily a third of the quotes have SOMETHING to do even tangentally about the Housewives.

For instance:
February

1 February

"Don't tell girls they can be anything they want when they grow up. Because it would have never occurred to them that they couldn't. It's like saying, 'Hey, when you get in the shower, I'm not gonna read your diary.' 'Wait—are you gonna read my diary?' 'No! I said I'm not gonna read your diary. Go take a shower!'"
Sarah Silverman

This is a brilliant way of looking at something (girls can do anything!) that I might've otherwise thought worthy of including in this book. Don't even say it. Just live it!

The Sarah Silverman Program premiered on Comedy Central on February 1, 2007.
The quotes overall range from silly (24 Feb) to inspirational (1 Mar) to—frankly—disgusting (12 Apr), and... I admit I'm not familiar enough with Cohen's work to know if this is par for his writing or if it's just pandemic-fatigue setting in (as he states is when this was written), but a lot of his interjections just seem like "I need to say something to justify this as a book written by 'me.'" For instance, after quoting Paris Hilton, he says,
Dress cute, kids! And carry a small dog! This is the perfect Paris life mantra, but it applies to all of us. Dress cute!
which feels like remarkably bad advice MOSTLY for the "carry a small dog" part, since this makes just being out in public areas actively hostile toward people with allergies to dogs, when at the very least businesses used to be safer in this respect—nowadays, I see non-service dogs in stores where they would NEVER have been allowed before.

At least today's is a good one. Yesterday's, when I started reading, is... less good: "Kim, would you stop taking pictures of yourself? Your sister's going to jail."

On the whole, I don't know. I think this suits the "tear-off calendar" format better than a book, but a calendar doesn't lend itself to having a big name author as well, since those tend to be disposable by design, and what "big name author" wants to bother with such disposable content? (Props if there are any who put those out, though, and fans who get them autographed!)

About the most grounding content is when Cohen quotes his mother (1 Jan and... at least one other day I forgot) and his sister (definitely forgot which), though he admits he's quoting his sister quoting somebody else (old "unknown author" quote but since his sister TECHNICALLY said it, it was fair game for this book). Also interesting from a biographical standpoint (but boring as a quote) is, for instance, "Would you like a sandwich, Andrew?" —Connie Chung upon meeting Cohen and politely offering a sandwich.

Definitely a hit-or-miss collection, though I appreciate the sentiment!

*I normally lean into gender-neutral descriptions, but this is "women" per the title, so.

Update: Today (7/20) went "low": "I pooed in his shoes . . . Because he was putting me through a lot of dookie so I decided he needed to walk in it." —Tiffany Haddish

OKAY then.

Update: Okay, the next FIVE quotes were just too mid, sorry. I even had to remind myself to check, and cheated by reading one at 11:55pm then the next at 12:05am, that's how not-interested I was in doing it as a daily. Again, fine for a one-a-day calendar, but not very exciting as a book. I did flip to specific meaningful dates (September 11 is, a bit ironically, "I'm so glad we had this time together." —Carol Burnett), but otherwise I think I've had my fill.

DNF. This is an interesting little book, kinda like a train wreck. I didn’t necessarily love it, but it was hard to look away because I was curious to see what B list celebrity was going to say something “out there” next. That being said, many of the quotes were not glitter and I got tired of looking for the ones that were.

Disappointing. I love Andy. I’ve read (and thoroughly enjoyed) all his other books. This book, ironically, seems uninspired. There was no substance. Someone mentioned it would have been a good tear-off daily calendar; I agree. I needed more of Andy’s own glitter to make this book shine.

It's a quote for each day throughout the year and add he has a quote for the day, he gives you a quick thought or a bit of the background to the quote.

Some had more quotes than others such as: his mother, Madonna, Amy Poehler(most quoted), Grace Jones, and Coco Chanel.

Such fabulous quotes I absolutely love include:
"The only power you have is the word no."
~Francis McDormond

"I think through anything difficult in life, you have a choice to either make you bitter or better."
~Marie Osmond

"I just live bossy women. I could be around then all day. To me, bossy is not a pejorative term at all. It means somebody's passionate and engaged and ambitious and doesn't mind leading."
~Amy Poehler

Need I quote more? ;)

Lol this cash grab - bought it thinking it was something entirely different but it’s just quotes with 1-2 sentences from Andy Cohen.

Also, no Nene quotes… Huh?!

My rating of this book is perhaps not entirely fair. I am NOT at all the target audience for this book... I picked it up because I needed a book from a specific library display for a library challenge, and this one looked like the easiest to get through...
I expect people will think I live under a rock but... I didn't really know who Andy Cohen was. I recognize the name as some sort of TV personality but literally couldn't have told you a single thing he was connected to. And reading through this- I should NOT have picked this book up. Late night talk show- not my favorite but whatever. Producer etc of trash reality TV- active avoidance.
I do not watch TV often, and have watched almost zero of the trashy reality TV. I've never seen an episode of Jersey Shore, Keeping up with the Kardashians, or The Real Housewives of wherever. And, I never intend to. I have no desire to.
This book was full of trash quotes from women in media. I'll give credit- There were a few good quote from a few women that I like and admire. But most of the quotes were awful and made the women who said them sound stupid, or shallow, or gross.
And his commentary?! 🤢😒 He just sounds annoying. And it was full of fake feminist support. He talks over and over about how much he likes strong women, but filled his book with quotes that make these women he claims to adore look weak and catty and shallow. And some of these women absolutely present themselves that way (and it's obviously working to sell their brand. They make a lot of money...) but it is not empowering to have a day to focus on Kim K. crying bc she lost a diamond earring. AND. I was SO irritated by one of the days- One of the quotes (from I can't remember who... ) said they'd always thought they'd make a good man. And Cohen said, I've always thought I'd make a good woman, except here are several sentences about why clothes and fashion would be hard, so nevermind, I guess not... As if clothes and fashion is (or should be) a significant things about being a women. UGH.
I actively hated this book. I spent page after page making noises, and verbalizing, out loud (to my empty house) how trash and annoying and repugnant this book was. I was so frustrated and annoyed and just... BLECH reading it.
If you like those reality TV shows and whatever Andy Cohen is involved in, you'll probably like this one fine. But man. I did NOT like it at all. And, I know I wasn't the target audience, but WOOF. Hard pass.

On a whim, I grabbed this book during a recent trek to my local library. Yes, I have a large quantity of books on my tbr. Yes, I had other books in my hand. But I couldn't resist it when I saw the sparkly cover. I like to read and save quotes by writers, poets, and thinkers. They help me remember a moment in time or motivate me to keep going in difficult times.

Even though the daily insights from Andy Cohen's collection stem from less literary sources, mostly movie stars, tv personalities, musicians, and pop culture icons, they are just as motivating as any quotes I have read recently. As the title implies, the book is full of quips and mantras from strong, amazing women, such as Donna Summer, Beyoncé, Tina Turner, Stacey Abrams, Barbara Streisand, and Shirley Chisolm. Most of the women musing in this book have faced adversity, stared it down, and continued on with their fabulous lives. How is that not inspirational?

What I like most about this book is the format. Andy Cohen provides the daily thought for the day from someone amazing, adds his spin to the quote, and provides a little nugget of information or history about the particular day in question, tying everything together. I don't think I have seen any quote-for-a-day books that presents all of those things together. Most of the time, I was left laughing or smiling after reading each page. Part of my reaction comes from my appreciation of Andy's charm, humor, and insight. He even quoted his mom several times and shared a little personal information about what it was like to be young Andy Cohen.

One of the best, laugh-out-loud quotes is from Carrie Fisher: "Please stop debating about whether or not I aged well. Unfortunately, it hurts all three of my feelings. My body hasn't aged as well as I have. Blow us." Andy's quip is: "This is bursting with humor and truth. That being said, debating whether people have aged well can be fun." (I guarantee, you just laughed or at least smiled.) The note for the day [May 25] is " Star Wars was released in the United States on May 25, 1977." Great, right?

I tried to read this book at least somewhat slowly, but I knew I wouldn't be able to resist reading multiple pages a day. Plus, I have to return it to the library soon. I recommend this book to Andy Cohen fans, to anyone who loves incredible women, and anyone who needs a change of perspective.

Zero stars. Worthless money grab that Andy Cohen should be ashamed of. Half the tiny book is white space and there is almost no real content--just a random quote on each page from a woman that's not usually inspirational, followed by a line or two by Cohen that says nothing. It reads like he did this in his sleep.

Then in the end you find out he didn't even do the work for this--his assistant found all the quotes and Cohen just wrote (or said) something snarky to go along with each, often having nothing to do with the actual quote. Many pages have two-thirds white space and only two sentences on them--one from a woman and one from him. Who is buying this as being inspiring?

It's hilariously promoted as a "daily meditation" but gives you very little to think about. Simply a way for Cohen to make some quick money for his new self-named imprint.

When will people realize that Andy Cohen has been using and abusing women for years in order to make money, all in the name of supporting feminism and racial equality? In truth his TV productions and books show his stereotyping of women's worst qualities and demeans them. Somehow he has managed to milk followers and gotten away with saying whatever insensitive things he wants to make a living. He does have talent but wastes it on things like this book project. Next time he should actually sit down and write a real book that isn't just a diary or his one-sentence reaction to quotes. The great irony is that he says his goal "is to provide you with a daily meditation" and yet he never seems to take the time to really meditate on what he's doing or how he is often promoting the worst of women.

This was nothing shockingly new or earth-shattering. It was just a fun collection of quotes by bad ass, wacky, funny, amazing women. I liked Andy's addition of his own thoughts about each quote, and also liked that there was a footnote at the bottom of each that tied something relevant about the person or quote to that specific day.

I do think this would make a great page-a-day calendar.

As a side note, I read this book out loud to my 2-month old son when we would go spend time on his play mat. Although there were a few times I found myself censoring the language a little bit (Cardi B I'm looking at you), I like to think it was a good crash course in bad ass women for Lincoln. And, you know, it allowed me to fit a little more reading in for 2021!

Save your money. I bought this because I’m an Andy fan and a fan of all things Bravo but this book is the dumbest thing I have ever spent money on lol The cover is cute and that’s about the only good thing I can say about it. I’m not sure what I was expecting but THIS isn’t it. The book is all over the place and the quotes are uninspiring. It feels as if Andy did the absolute bare minimum putting this book together, if he did any of it himself at all. I could have put this book together myself. Just because you have the means to put out a book doesn’t mean you should.

My sister gave me this book to read; not sure where she got this from but ... to me I'm not thrilled with the book. Sure, a quote a day but more of them are picked out to represent an event that may have happened in AC's life that day or even had happened in the world of showbiz that same day. In my thought process - this may be better (and others have said this too) as a "page a day" type of calendar. It just isn't my style or type of book I'd normally read, but got through it by lulling myself to sleep a few nights.

It wasn't what I expected, although I am not sure I know exactly what I expected. Basically, when I asked for it for Christmas, I didn't know it was a quote a day book. I love Andy Cohen, he is my absolute favorite, so I appreciate some of his little stories. But I think I wanted more. For what it was. It was good. Good enough, I've read ahead for the whole year. Lol. I could do it at a page a day.

I must admit that when I first saw this book I figured it was just a way for Andy Cohen to make some quick money. I mean, its a quote a day. At first glance there doesnt seem to be much substance to the book. However, pushing through my initial cynicism, I found myself to be very intrigued, because whilst a lot of the quotes are funny, throwaway lines, many of the them are quite profound and stopped me in my tracks.

Overall just blah, but a quote for each day of thr year. Not many inspirational quotes and the blurbs underneath were sometimes odd. Very heavily Bravo focused which my mistake for not realizing this before I started. In teeny tiny font at the bottom of each page had some what happened on this day references, but not always so you couldn’t depend on that either.

Andy Cohen of "Watch What Happens Live" fame shares a collection of quotes from women he loves for each day of the year along with some short commentary. While I liked many of the quotes, too many of the women are repeated and it includes far too many quotes from "Real Housewives." I agree with others that this would work better as a desk calendar than a book.

There are some good quotes in the book and I found it pretty amusing overall so I'm giving it three stars (no thanks to Andy who brings little to the table.) You can read it in a few hours....skip the parts where Andy comments.
