Ruby Mohan lived in a science lab obsessing over the salivary gland chromosomes of Drosophila melanogaster a.k.a fruit fly or lover of the dew till she discovered the dream world of romance.
A voracious reader of historical and contemporary romance she inevitably started spinning her own yarns about plucky women who take charge of their destiny and create their happily ever after.
She is also a poet, painter, educator and entrepreneur.
She is married, has two daughters and one son.
An armchair philosopher in her free time she can talk anyone under the table on most subjects (thanks to the aforementioned reading).
Next on her dream board are a yellow hummer.
She has already acquired a dog and one to spare, and GPS (since those who forge their way do not stop and ask for directions).
Ruby loves to hear from readers.

Good poetry is visceral. It smacks you across the face with an image, or stabs you in the heart with an observation, or blows your mind with a comparison of things you had never before put together. Mostly, I read poetry books for pure pleasure. What I want from a poetry collection is sonic pleasure, intelligent word-play, a noticeable attention to individual word choice and images, and depth. It is rare when I find a complete book of poems that holds me and amazes me from beginning to the end of the book. Ruby Mohan's "Unsettled" is just such a book. It is crazy smart and lyrically soaring. It resonates with me while managing to circle such mainstream topics as love, identity, heartbreak, and home without falling into familiar tropes. In fact, it is the fierce and lively voice of Ruby Mohan that catches me from the book's first poem titled "Unsettled":

I have not forgotten her hazel eyes
The challenge they held
I may not have taken her up then
But the score is unsettled
One day when she least suspects
I will accost her again
To torment her with my silence
Till she speaks aloud my name
As I lead her through this maze
A misstep she needs to make
Fools all those that fall in love
As will be her mistake

Each of the poems in the collection has a weight measured in depth; as a collection they create a perfect circle of teeth-gnashing humanity - a circumference dotted with points of joy, pain, celebration, humor and loss. They're approachable in the nicest possible way, by which I mean you re-read lines for the thrill of hearing them again in your head, not because you're confused. Ruby Mohan's words feels like intelligent and warm and surprising and unafraid of simple candor.

In 'Unsettled: Anthology of Poems', Ruby Mohan has a great voice and you just kind of want to be friends with her. The poems are accessible and honest, sometimes funny, sometimes daring, often optimistic. In searing, concise tone, there is a burning away of the non-essential and a yearning for deep connection. The verses travel over a wild and acerbic province, resounding with incisive awareness that veers into heartbreak and humor.

All the poems in this collection are direct, simple, easy to grasp and full of passion. There are underlying layers and raw thoughts and emotions beneath those words that have me wanting to savour it, reread it. The overall effect is beautifully alchemical. The poet doesn’t leave off with complaint; she doesn’t take the position of victim. As a visionary, she wants to re-define life. The collection is astonishingly sincere and unpretentious, an authentic laying bare of shadow and soul. Pick up a copy. Take your time and savor the collection. It gives you permission to trust the innermost flame.

This is an anthology of poems by Ruby Mohan. Though this is a short read, each and every poem is so emotional that would make you retrospect. This is a collection of 47 poems. Though I have liked almost all the poems, I would like to highlight a few with some of my observations.

Paper Balls - This is one of the long poems in this book.

Determination - a different poem altogether. This also shows the quirky side of the author.

K - you read it right. That's the title of the poem. Though the title is short, the message it conveys penetrates deep inside your heart.

Fey - this poem left me speechless. I noticed the sheer brilliance of the author in the content.

I pay attention - another poem that caught my attention :-)

Reflection - a short yet powerful poem. There is also a duality in this. Wanted to find out more? Do go ahead and click the Amazon link which I had given at the bottom to place an order.

Overall, this is a real good read. If you love poems, this is the book for you. I felt that each and every poem is infused with emotions that appeals nonchalantly but yes, they have a side of pain, happiness and other emotions, this life has to offer....

Unsettled by Ruby Mohan is a different, slightly offbeat, collection of poems. From soul-stirring poems to subtle natural flow of prose, the book offers a gamut of emotions through short 47 items of literature. The cover page is captivating, leaving a sense of wanderlust for readers. In its all essence, Unsettled meant unpredictable patterns of life and its unfathomed vagaries that take us for a roller-coaster ride from time and again.

The collection is easy to read but difficult to discern. The poetess talked about love and imagined reunion of lovers in different states and moods. It is clear love is an evident theme in the book and it can be gauged that the poetess missed someone at one point of life.

Ruby Mohan pours her heart out. Her poems are coherent but paint the picture as what churns inside a mind and heart. The collection is full of lovely and meaningful poems, it just a matter of time how readers can connect and relate with them. Easy to read, the book is so short that it can be read in one go.
