Byen er Bergen is a Bergen-based Norwegian language introductory textbook for beginners. It progresses rapidly from A1 to A2 and focuses on developing communication skills. The language variant used in this textbook is standardized Norwegian bokmål that corresponds to the Bergen dialect. English is used as an auxiliary language throughout the book, and Byen er Bergen is therefore suitable both for students taking Norwegian courses and for self-study. This textbook has been written especially for students at university level who come to Bergen for a semester or two, but it is also suitable for others who want a quick introduction to the Norwegian language. The authors work at the University of Bergen and teach Norwegian to international students and employees.
