And if you’re going to become a full-time writer, what better place to do it than Chamonix, a beautiful town in the heart of the French Alps? While she writes her novel, Tess is working as a nanny to a kind, clever little boy. The only wrinkle in the plan is the boy’s very handsome and very single father, Damien.
He’s a single father, a protector, a hero. His heart is the only thing he can’t afford to give.
Damien Gray, commander of the Chamonix Search & Rescue unit, is used to being in control. After all, he and his team are responsible for safety on Mont Blanc, one of the highest and most dangerous mountains in Europe. All semblance of control disappears when Jamie, his six-year-old son, and Tess, the boy’s nanny, go missing in the mountains. To get them back, and keep them safe, Damien needs to figure out who would want to hurt his son—and the woman he’s come to consider his.
Action, adventure, romance … in the heart of the Alps.
I signed up for the arc of book 2, in the Mont Blanc Rescue and the author was kind enough to provide book 1. They can be read as stand alone. Being an American I usually have a hard time with books placed in Europe, and I don't mean that in the ungrateful, brutish American way. I get detracted from the story line trying to understand. I am happy to say that was not the case here! There were a few things that I got snagged on but for the most part I was dropped into Mont Blanc world and read on happily. I did sigh on the age difference being a detriment, but fortunately it was not whined through out. I absolutely love the strength and integrity in Tess. You could feel her love, her joy. That combined with our Commandant Daimens rigid, solid personality was such a treat. What about his son, Jamie I fell in love with him also. When I got to the critical juncture where the whole mystery comes to a conclusion, I was horrified! When I know that is going to happen before hand in a book I refuse to read it. I am glad I didn't know, because I would have missed out on a great start to a new series that I am now addicted too. Book 2 did not disappoint. Thank you J.R. Pace for your generosity in providing book 1 with the book 2 arc, Mountain Impact.
Damien Gray was born and lived in France despite him having an American father and speaks both languages fluently. He is a Commander in a specialized search and rescue team at Chamonix PGHM for the treacherous mountains whether they be lost or take climbs that are way past their experience.
His son Jamie is his life. Four years ago Jamie's mother showed up on his doorstep with a toddler in tow leaving Jamie behind. It may have been a huge surprise on his part, but he wouldn't trade Jamie for anything.
Tess is Jamie's nanny. When Damien first saw her during their FaceTime interview, he almost disconnected, but something she said had Jamie laughing. Something none of the other applicants had managed to do. She was just too gorgeous with her blonde hair and green eyes and throw in her Oxfordshire accent and he had to keep reminding himself that 1) he was her boss and 2) he was 36 to her 25 and he couldn't disrupt Jamie's happiness.
Tess had to keep herself from gawking at her boss every time she was in his presence. With his dark hair, piercing blue eyes, 6'3" in height he looks like a movie star. She is just glad she is living in the guest house and not in the main residence.
Damien has the best rescue team around and he is grateful for all their experience. Drake, a Canadian, is his 2nd in command and the strongest man Damien has seen. Kat is their pilot. Gael is the most experienced and world-class climber from Mexico City. Remy is a mountain guide and an avalanche forecaster. Hiro is the best dog handler in the world. Jens is the rescue team's doctor.
Tess moved to Chamonix to better her French and finish her novel. Her family was not too happy that not only was she moving to another country, but moving in with a family they didn't know. But, she was glad that she took the chance. She loves her job and especially Jamie.
Damien and the team were on a rescue mission for a man and woman who only one had enough experience to even try, but they were alerted by the lodge when they hadn't returned. Evidently, the man had made special plans when they returned to propose. Luckily, despite their injuries, the rescue went without a hitch.
When Damien returned home he became concerned because Tess should have been back hours ago from her hike with Jamie. Without him asking his team dropped everything to join him in his search of the hiking trail they were last seen.
This book is amazing! It is very well written and the description of the characters, as well as the local, are done so well that I felt part of this group and could picture the mountains in my head.
This book is high-action and full of suspense and danger. The camaraderie between the team comes through the pages. You know that they will put their life on the line for each other no questions asked.
Circumstances make both Damien and Tess come to the conclusion that their reasons for fighting their attraction didn't matter when there may not be a tomorrow. Their relationship is steamy hot, but it's not all about the bedroom in this book (although that is definitely part of the book.) The danger that follows them is the main focus of this story.
The plot and storyline kept me turning the pages. When Damien is given a life or death choice, what will he do? I cannot recommend this book enough!
A great start to this new series Mont Blanc Rescue. The story flows well, it will keep you interested all the way through. The chemistry between Tess and Jamie is sizzling. The story is full of suspense, drama, action, enjoyable characters. I enjoyed this story and looking forward to see what comes next for this series. This is a new author for me, and I am looking forward to read more.
Damien may be an expert in rescue, but everything he knows falls by the wayside when Jamie and Tess are in danger. How do you focus when your heart is frozen with fear? A fast paced, dangerous but gripping start to the Mont Blanc Rescue series which I read on Kindle Unlimited.
This was an interesting start to this series. The writing style was different than I was expecting. It took some time to get used to the POV. However, the storyline itself was intriguing. Living in the Rocky Mountains and Cascades most of my life, I'm familiar with search and rescue. I'm always fascinated by these amazing men and women. The next book looks promising.
The summary of this book made me think it'd be a romance with a side of action, and to be honest it was. It was just not up to my expectations. I'm a fervent reader of romance books, so by now I know what I like and dislike, but still look for different kinds. This book actually started pretty great because, contrary to most romance books, it didn't start around the time the protagonists met. It started when a routine was already established, and there is no romance (yet). I really liked that, it kind of spiced things up a bit. But I was disappointed with what followed.
Overall, I'd say everyhing goes fast, and well, too fast. The plot moves at a strange rhythm, the "action" parts seem to be at places just to keep the book from getting boring. It felt a bit discontinuant, I think. Things also get resolved pretty quickly. Even the doubts the heroin gets at some point just seem to get there and then disappear, never to return again. Also, now that it's been a few days, I can look back and say I don't think there was much of character development. So that didn't help.
Despite these negative points, I still had a pretty good time reading this book, it was a light read, which was what I was looking for. Just not a book I plan on reading again, to be perfectly honest.
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy from Hidden Gems.
Overall its a good story between Tess, a nanny, and a search and rescue team leader Damien, the dad of Jamie. It follows all the normal tropes of romance and HEA with a couple close calls, however the book focused a lot more on the action rather than the romance and almost made it seemed rushed. There wasn't anything bad or distracting from the writing it just felt like you were coming in at the middle of the story and spent the whole time rushing through everything. However as a stepmom, the love Tess shows for Jamie is spot on.
New to this author. this is a short read but the beginning of a series of a team of search and rescue crew. liked the style of writing but easy to guess where it's all going. The characters are great this storyline was a hard read but very sweet with a HEA and a set up for next book.
J.R. Pace, ‘Mountain Struggle’. Mont Blanc Rescue Book 1.
As an Hidden Gems ARC reader I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily promised an honest review. Here it is.
Rating: 4 (of 5 stars).
In general: Experienced Mountain Man Finds Love.
Main characters: - Damien Gray (36). Four years earlier a mother turned up on Damien’s doorstep in Chamonix with a toddler in tow. She couldn’t care for the 2 years old boy, Jamie, for she led a wandering existence. He was the result of a short love affair between her and Damien. Damien immediately loved the boy, but as a Commandant of the Gendarmerie de Haut Montagne he couldn’t care for him constantly so he hired a nanny for him.
- Tess Porter (25). She studied Creative Writing in Edinburgh. To learn to speak better French and to finish her first novel se took a job as a nanny in Chamonix. She loved Jamie and had a secret crush on Damien, who considered her beautiful but too young.
Then the author, J.R. Pace, describes some exciting action scenes in which Tess and Jamie are in danger. Damien realizes he loves Tess, not only because she is such a good nanny, but also beautiful, intelligent and very courageous. And after some other suspenseful and dangerous adventures on the mountain he - not quite unexpectedly - dares to declare his love to her. A sweet love story; for me a pleasure to read.
Damien is the commander of a French mountain rescue team and is the single dad to his son Jamie. Tess is his live-in British nanny who takes care of Jamie while Damien is out every day rescuing people who get in trouble while visiting the Mont Blanc mountain range. The author’s vivid descriptions swept me along for the ride on all the adventures and breathtaking rescue scenes.
My two favorite scenes from this story are the intense waterfall scene where Damien and Tess have to take a dive off a waterfall and he has to use all his knowledge and skills to keep them both alive and the bar scene where, for a brief moment, I thought Damien might be an awful human but he set the record straight quickly. It was actually kinda funny.
Damien and Tess do get their HEA but not before having to battle against a mystery man that is trying to hurt Tess and Jamie. Solving that mystery led to some nail biting moments for Damien and his mountain rescue team as they worked hard to save his little family.
Damien and Tess’ story was a fast-paced, exciting introduction to this new series. I can’t wait to read the stories of the rest of the brave Mont Blanc rescue team.

Tess accepted a nanny position in Chamonix, a beautiful town in the heart of the French Alps. During the day, she takes care of a terrific young boy named Jamie. In her evenings, she works on her novel in the gorgeous mountain surroundings. She is attracted to her boss, Damien Gray, but neither of them are willing to give in to a relationship. He is the commander of the Chamonix Search & Rescue unit responsible for keeping people safe on Mont Blanc, one of the highest and most dangerous mountains in Europe.
Tess and Jamie go missing in the mountains and Damien and his team respond. Someone is targeting Damien’s family and putting Tess and Jamie in danger. Will Damien be able to figure it out in time to keep them safe? Will he realize how strongly he does feel about Tess, despite his hesitation over their 10-year age difference?
This was a good story to start us into this new series. We get to meet the members of Damien’s rescue team and how they function in their roles. We also get a taste of the danger they come up against and how they deal with this. I enjoyed the story line and the characters. This sounds like it will be a good series to read.
What i liked about this book is that their friendship and her place as the kids nanny was already established. They were having naughty thoughts about each other but even though i enjoy a meet-cute i kinda liked it
Damian's biggest problem with dating her was her age. I don't know how much order cos i don't think it ever says but i was guessing 10 years which is nothing.
Some of the ways the chapters were done was a little weird to me. Tess and Jamie get kidnapped but we find out about in while in Damian's POV and then when we get to Tess she thinks back on it so we know what happened. When she is nearly run over we hear about it again when Damian gets a call not from Tess's POV. 2 of the biggest moments of the book and we didn't get to see it directly seems a bit weird. Also he is a police man with a whole team of people and he had nobody watching her or his son after they were kidnapped.
There is a bit in a bar with another woman and honestly i nearly stopped reading until i got a little further but whatever the outcome i didn't like it.
So Jamie is kidnapped - again. They guy wants Tess too so her and Damian go up the mountain to find him. They end is surprisingly violent. I was not expecting that but everything works out.
I liked both the main characters. Damian was a little in his head at the beginning but once he was in he was in and Tess was a strong woman who loved Damian and Jamie right from the start and protected Jamie more than once.
There was no epilogue but i did jump forward a little.
Tess is a writer who's working as a nanny to a sweet, smart, six-year-old boy named Jamie in the beautiful town of Chamonix in the French Alps. She loves her job, but has one issue ~ the boy's single father, Damien, to whom she's very attracted. Damien is the commander of a search and rescue team and used to being in control. But when Tess and Jamie go missing in the mountains, his control is in thin ice. Now he must find the man who wants to hurt the two people most important to him.
I received an ARC of this book from Hidden Gems and this is my honest, unbiased review. I really enjoyed this book which is a slightly steamy romance. It was well-written with well-rounded characters and believable relationships. Full of intrigue, suspense, and emotion, this book will bring tears to your eyes in places. I have never read anything set in France before but this book was wonderful and I loved the scenery. This book does have some language and scenes that are definitely adult in nature. I'm looking forward to more from this series and highly recommend this book.
An interesting start to this new series. Damien Gray is the Commandant (police) in Chamonix and is called upon to rescue lost hikers. He has custody of his six-year-old son Jamie and needing child care has hired Tess as Jamie’s live-in nanny. Tess lives in the cottage behind the residence and in her free time is writing a book. She is attracted to Damien as he is to her, but they keep their feelings hidden. He is often called out for rescues along with his team Kat Barreau the helicopter pilot, Gael Leon an expert climber, Drake Jacobs who has worked with Damien for years, Remy a mountain guide, Jens Melkopf the team doctor and Hiro Habu a dog handler with his rescue dog Bailey. Tess loves little Jamie and would protect him with her life. When she and Jamie are threatened, will she be able to escape and get Jamie to safety? Action, suspense, and romance as the threats to Tess and Jamie continue, but why? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
The addition starts with the book cover….yeah…yeah…yeah don’t judge a book by its cover they say ….well we all do it and this one here it is the scratch to your itch or better yet the filling to your oreos! Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with! This is book is part of the Mont Blanc Rescue series why just read one when you can start at the beginning and keep reading through the series it won’t be a waste of time. Tess is sweet, a writer by free time 😊 and nanny by day to a sweet six year old in the French Alps and she can say she loves her job but one very hot …sexy distraction. Damien sexy as all get out distraction, father to the six-year-old and commander in the search and rescue team so control is his first, middle and last name (or it was until he hired his nanny but shhhhh for now). It doesn’t help his control when his son and nanny go missing in the mountains, he loses all control will he get to them in time, will he protect them, will he finally be hones about his feeling for Tess and is this is second chance at happiness?
Tess goes on an adventure to France taking a job as a nanny for the handsome and older Search and Rescue Commander, Damian Gray. She falls in love with the kind and protective father of her charge. But a threat from Damian's past puts both Jamie and Tess in mortal danger, forcing Damian to make a horrible choice.
The story starts a little slow. I wasn't convinced I was going to like it at first. But as it went along, the characters are very compelling. Tess is protective of young Jamie and good at her job. Jamie is so adorable and precocious--kids say the darndest things! Damian is a super hot hero doing his best for the community as well as his family.
When Damian and Tess finally set aside their reservations, ooohhh la la!
The action and the threat they face really drew me in and its totally worth the read. I'm even invested in the group of characters Damian works with; I read the teaser for the next book and I'm definitely going to make a point to pick it up.
This book was given to me. I'm voluntarily leaving a review.
Damien heads up the search and rescue team, plus has a small son named Jamie. He hires Tess as his nanny and they all coexist well together. Damien and Tess have secret deep feelings for each other. Coming back from a rescue, he is surprised that Tess and Jamie are not back from their hike on a nearby trail and alerts his team. Someone is targeting him and he needs to figure out what the next step is to save them. The characters are diverse and wonderful as both a team and close-knit friends. The storyline has plenty of twists, surprises, drama, suspense and romance. Loved how they all work together and show their strengths and trust. Tess is fantastic with Jamie and the bond between the three is unforgettable. Could not put this book down and can not wait to read more of this group and this author.

This is the first book in the Mont Blanc Rescue series. Excellent start to the series, it has enough suspense and action mixed with romance to keep you turning the pages. I couldn't put this book down. I loved Tess and Damien's story. Damien hired Tess to care for his young son Jamie. Tess has feeling for Damien which she suspects is love and she knows she loves Jamie as if he were her son. Damien has started having feelings for Tess but has kept the mat bay by telling himself she's too young for him. Everything changes when Tess and Jamie are kidnapped but will they be able to keep their budding relationship alive and figure out who is trying to harm Tess and Damien? Steamy, page turning entertaining story. Can't wait for book two.

This story has several high action parts that make it vey exciting to read. The romance is sweet... The way he almost lets his son decide if he does things... Well its sweet but that aspect is kinda too sweet he isn't as strong and sure as I like my male parts in these stories. She is very strong in the bedroom but falls apart when facing stressful situations... I thought she was conflicting... I am not sure what but I suspect it was the bedroom scenes being so different from the other parts he was a strong leader who fought hard to protect his son and woman, but in the bedroom she seems to be more in control which just seems conflicted. The parts about the Rescue Team and the vengeful threat are all excellent... This story is really good but the sexual relationship was not as inspiring as the other parts for me.
This was my first book by this author. I enjoyed the storyline, especially the suspenseful elements; but I really struggled with connecting with the two main characters.
In my opinion the story is told in a more narrative writing style which just isn’t my favorite. I enjoyed dual POVs because they gave more insight into what the characters were thinking and feeling.
Jamie, Damien’s young son, is adorable and adds to the storyline. The main and secondary characters are all interesting and have very diverse personalities and backgrounds. The alps mountain rescue setting and focus was very interesting, and actually breathtaking at moments during the suspenseful scenes.
I received an ARC from the Hidden Gems program and the author, and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Good exciting read with excellent characters - I look forward to reading the rest. I have been around Mont Blanc many times and the author really catches the atmosphere of the place so well. The plot was nail biting in places.. I just wish the book had been a little longer so that we could have seen the relationship develop I rather felt as if we had just walked in as it was about to take off. The book was well written and proof read - a real rarity these days although there were a couple of things. An English girl would refer to a "pavement" rather than the American "sidewalk". Also the English heroine mentioned that her grandfather kept a rifle to deal with wolves - unlikely since the last wolf in England was killed in 1390!
This is a great start to a new series. It’s a romantic suspense that ticks all the boxes. We get a hunky hero and a strong leading lady. There is also a son and I love it when there’s an adorable brave child included in a story. I couldn’t work out the mystery at first so it kept the suspense going but I think I would have liked a few more threats first so that Damian was really on edge from the beginning. The rescue scene was dramatic and had me a little worried for the characters. There’s a strong team being developed that future books will be about so I am sure this series will grow in strength.

Cool action and suspense; an entertaining and fun read with some good steam and sweet romance! Tess and Damien are cute together; great connection between them, and both are likable characters. Single father, Damien, works as a search and rescue person in the French Alps. Tess is his kid’s nanny. There’s an attraction there, but they both don’t want to mess up their friendship or the connection Damien’s son has with Tess, so they try to deny their romantic feelings. There also seems to be someone out to cause strife for Damien, his son, and Tess. Dangers abound! A fun read! Excited for the next one!
When I read the blurb I was excited to read this book. Since this is the first book in the series, we get an introduction to all of the members of the team and a hint of what is to come in the second book. We are given enough information to have a feel for the team members without being bogged down with too many details. The characters were well developed and the pace of the story was good. However, for some reason I didn't quite feel the suspense the way I would have expected as the story unfolded nor did I feel the real push-pull between Damien and Tess as far as starting a relationship.
Loved the setting: This was an interesting and intriguing start to what is sure to be an exciting new series. I thought the setting of the French Alps was unique and made for a welcome change. There was mystery and danger but it wasn't perhaps quite as gripping as in previous books by this author. Despite Damien and Tess' 10 year age difference, I liked these two as a couple and was rooting for them. I would have however liked to have felt a bit more chemistry or tension between them. Perhaps if it had been a little longer (was only 177 pages long) some of these issues could have been resolved. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Damien is in a dangerous line of work, rescuing people off the mountain, but he needs to know his cute son Jamie is safe and in good hands. Luckily he found Tess, who has been a great blessing, unfortunately she is too attractive for him, so he is tempted to claim her for himself too. Will Damien keep his hands off her? What about the danger which seems to out to get Jamie and Tess? I enjoyed this heroic Dad, and his smart brave Nanny, their story had drama/angst, intrigue, danger and passion. Both Damien and Tess were likable, and I liked Damien's teammates (they all sound interesting too).

A superb book that takes you to the French alps with its ability to transport you straight there with the characters. I loved the action, drama, suspense, danger, connections and relationships between the main characters and the mountain rescue team. This seems to be the beginning of a very promising series that I will be watching out for. I loved how the situation forced Damien and Tess to admit their feelings and forget about the reasons against pursuing a relationship. These characters are perfect and obviously well thought out.

This is the 5th book I've read written by J.R. Pace; I can’t wait to read more of her books.
This is the 1st book in the Mont Blanc Rescue Series. Tess takes on a nanny job while she is in Europe writing her novel. Damien is the commander of the search & rescue unit that keeps everyone in the mountains safe; neither of them even think about a relationship or even have time for one. When his son and Tess go missing he loses all control and can’t figure out who would want to harm his son and his woman.

I neeeeeed a good bit of action and drama in a romance as it up's the stakes and makes the intensity so much more. However, this didn't flow properly. I skim read almost half then DNF'd as there was no establishing the romance first meaning when she was in danger I didn't really care because I hadn't had a chance to fall for the characters. Possibly if I read the whole thing then I would have enjoyed more, it has a lot of higher reviews, but I just feel like there are too many books out there to be wasting time reading ones that don't immediately grip me. I'm possibly also tainted by too much intense dark romance now.
While I'm trying to get into thrillers, this is about all I can take—suspenseful but with a guaranteed HEA. I’m a sucker for all men-in-uniform stories, and this one delivers, blending family and duty in a way I really enjoy. The camaraderie, which often comes with these types of stories, adds to the appeal.
Heavy spice doesn’t work for me, especially when danger is at the door—or in this case, when the characters are still recovering. It just doesn’t feel believable. Thankfully, this book kept the focus on the suspense and relationships in a way that made it an enjoyable, lighter read. A great break from the heavier, darker books I’ve been reading lately.
