Rate this book
Majima Takahiro welcomes his former assailant, now given the name Gerbera, as his third servant. With Lily and Rose still recovering from their ferocious battle, Takahiro begins exploring the forest alone with Gerbera in hopes of finding more monster companions. But he has a mountain of problems weighing on his shoulders, from ensuring the safety of his group to improving the strained relationship between Rose and Gerbera. Not to mention he still hasn’t figured out his own relationship with the human Katou. On top of all that, now Takahiro has to decide whether to change course toward a potential human presence Gerbera informed him of or continue struggling through the dense and dangerous forest in this unfamiliar world.

Wasn't bad, but not a ton happened in this volume. Basically involved the girls learning to accept each other and their feelings (jealousy or desire when they shouldn't have them / they were developed from the ego the main character gave them).

The living doll seems like she's likely going to remodel her body to be more lifelike in the next one? She's the one most dealing with her feelings.

Spider friend is powerful, but also still can't stop something bad from happening to the main character if it's sudden enough. Bodes poorly for the future of the story if having a tank like that still isn't enough to survive against small fry.

He does get some more allies, but they're again mostly from the small fry he fought against, and no real "human" enemies.

Harem lead is still denying romance towards his other harem mates cause of norms, but he's at least contemplating changing his belief system since he's not in Japan anymore.

The human woman travelling with him is still a bit of a frustrating character to deal with. Is she kind of conniving? Was what he saw in her just his imaginings? Now she has an ally in the group, which would make it easier for her to betray them or scheme against them.

We get our first glimpse of the human world in this land, and it seems we likely won't be lonely next volume (Elf knight captain).

Volume 2 is much like volume 1, a story mostly about the human Takahiro struggling with himself on what it means to survive and work together with others under extreme circumstances and the monsters (in this volume the wooden puppet Rose) dealing with their new emotions. I find it an interesting approach and it is done reasonably well. I only feel the inner musings drag on only a few times. Now if only we did not get the he does X because he is a boy, and you feel Y because you are a girl at the side-story at the end. Granted, it is Katou explaining a set of emotions Rose is feeling at the time and it is not used in any other spot in the book, but it just is one of those things that make me roll my eyes. It is not just boys Katou who under those circumstances would be willing to suffer a lot of pain to learn how to defend one self and others. Anyway, looking forward to reading volume 3. Now that we have met humans, we might to get to see a bit more of the world.

Good series

Overall I liked the book. My only complaint is how much emotions and such take place instead of action. Don't get me wrong there is action happening, but so much of the book is about the emotions. Which I guess is just character building. Interested to see where this is going.

Not as good as the first volume. Not really thrilled with Gerbera as a character and they are basically just hanging out at her house for the entire story talking. Fairly boring. Eventually they decide to look for other humans or survivors from the colony, finding some undead knights. But the last chapter or two really turned things around, making me excited for the next volume again.

About 70% of this light novel volume are unnecessary dialogues about emotions from the main character with his tamed monsters. The main character is this huge wimp/weakling that has little intelligence, very low physical ability.
The main character gains two more tamed monsters. A plant and a small fox. They encounter some of the students that were transported from Earth and some local soldiers at the end. The main character begins training in mana physical empowerment and sword fighting.
Nothing positive comes to mind from this second volume.
