She was never meant to be a member of the Culling. He was never supposed to find his mate. Fate stepped in to ensure both.

There was only one reason the bond would choose Emery Montgomery. Her twin was dead. As soon as the silver band of the Culling appeared on her wrist, binding her to the vampire prince himself, her world turned upside down.

Forced to compete for the heart of her enemy in an archaic version of The Bachelor, Emery had only three things on her mind: Keep her witch heritage a secret, find her sister's murderer, and above all, don’t fall for the sinfully handsome prince.

August Nicholson wanted nothing to do with the pompously groomed women in his Culling, that was, until Emery showed up. She was unlike any other, calmed the dark twisted side of him few knew existed.

Instantly drawn to her, August must struggle against her intoxicating presence, because while he may want her for himself, he needs her to play her part to protect his family more.

Together, Emery and August must fight their feelings and find the culprit behind her twin’s murder, because if the Montgomery women were being hunted, Emery was next.

"Forever in my heart. Forever in my veins. Forever on my lips."
It usually takes me 2-3 days to read a book. It took me less than 24 hours to read this one. I know you're thinking I have no life – which may be true –, and it's the weekend, but it's more than that.

The Replacement was captivating and unputdownable. As soon as I got started, it wouldn't let me go, weaving its magic on me. And, of course: vampires and witches? That’s the perfect recipe.

"He liked that she talked back. Damn it, he hated that he liked it so much."
Emery is the soul of this book because she's incredible. I love how snarky and sarcastic she is, I love that she doesn't take anything lying down, and I love her swearing. She's so strong, independent, and determined that a lot of heroines could learn a thing or two from her.

"Dancing with him had been a mistake. One moment would never be enough, even when it had to be."
August. What can I say about him? He had me from the first moment he appeared on the page. He’s everything you imagine a vampire to be, and more. The fact that he’s hot as hell, has centuries of experience, and a dirty mouth... with fangs... don’t get me started. Did he annoy me sometimes? Yes. Will I forgive him for it? Also, yes.

"There is nothing friendly between us. We run from hot to scorching, with very little in between."
Keeping this as spoiler-free as possible, August is a vampire prince who needs to select his bride and future queen from a set of women who have been groomed and prepared for it, his Culling. Emery’s twin was part of his Culling, but when she gets murdered, it falls on Emery to fill in for her.

Being her twin’s replacement seems to be nothing but a nuisance, and something she really doesn’t want to do. Falling in line and obeying court rules is not for her. Until a certain pesky, annoying, and all sorts of sexy vampire prince infiltrates her dreams, her mind, and her heart.

There’s a lot of pushing and pulling. There’s a lot of ‘will they, won’t they’ and a lot of ‘would you please, please do it already?’ (from me). Emery and August together were scorching, even in the subtlest things and in the smallest touches.

The book also has a suspense undertone I’m sure we’ll see more of in the next book, and secondary characters I really can’t wait to know more about, from both vampires and witches.

"Finding love, especially an epic love, is limitless."
The Replacement ends on a cliffhanger, which is OK with me because the second book, The Intended, comes out on the 21st. If I had to wait longer, I might have channelled my inner witch and burned stuff down!
I can’t wait to read it and to know what’s in store for these two, but I trust K.M. Rives to give me another perfect story!

DNF At 72%

I've been holding off on DNFing this for some time and I still can't bring myself to stomach the last few hours of this book for the sake of finishing it. I refuse damn it! At this point, I've erased almost everything I knew about this book form my brain. All I remember is that the heroine was wishy-washy and the hero was meh. I will not be putting up with this one anymore.

Ok well this went in all sorts of directions I did not see coming.....and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Let me say up front their is some heat but if you are looking for a scorcher this is a 🔥🔥. The romance is building and there is no rush for Em and August. A slow build to what should be a pretty explosive romance..... if August does not kill her..... *cue dramatic music*

Great storyline! World build is interesting and different...at times I like the world but there are little twists to it I did find myself re-reading to make sure I was following correctly. Now I will say I have been torn in many different directions this week which my have caused my issue.

Riveting! Shocking! A little sexy.

On to book 2!

Happy reading,
DD 🥂

I loved this novel. The modern world building along with the characters that were brought in were intriguing and unique. I enjoyed The Bachelor aspect of it as well. And the undeniable chemistry between Emery and August, anyone could see how deeply passionate they were with one another.

I also loved how the author didn’t make it all about sex from the males POV. Some authors do that and it just doesn’t sit right with me. KM River did a great job with each characters chapters and bringing what their internal battles were to the surface for the reader. And personally I loved Augusts chapters. They gave me a better insight on what he was battling and why he did what he did.

The cliff hanger at the end almost killed me, so I’m suffering a tiny bit from that. I’m anxiously waiting for book two to now come out. But the reason I gave it 4 stars was because of grammatical and punctuation mistakes and also I wish there was more elaboration at the end. I don’t want to say on what so I don’t spoil the story, but I might just be greedy and want more because it was that good and addicting.

If you’re looking for a paranormal romance mixed with The Bachelor mixed with royalty mixed with modern world mixed with can’t put you down read, this story is for you.

Oh yeah this was an easy 5 star read for me. I was a little wary of a “The Bachelor” style vampire romance but good god this was so good. Emery and August are perfect, the plot is perfect, the SMUT is perfect. This book has everything, vampires, witches, fated mates, enemies to lovers, a cliffhanger that I will be suing KM Rives for sue to emotional damages. This series has me in a chokehold and I’m so excited to see where this story goes!!

DNF @ 17%. This reads like a YA novel from 2010. The dialog is immature and the FMC and MMC act like children. The writing in this was just awful.

I totally binged read this in one sitting. And my mind is reeling. I loved the Vampires in this book.
Witches and Vampires what is there not to like. fiercely beautiful and captivating storyline. With a lot of 🔥🔥.

Our MC Emery is a wonderful character full of sass, and she knows her own mind but she still has moments of second guessing herself, her self doubt is one thing that makes her so believable.
And you just can’t help but fall for the two Vampire Prince’s Malcom and August.

But there’s so much this book holds. Lies , traitors murders that need to be solved. And how can you not have enemy to lovers troupe. I loved the twists and lies this book told. Some of the revelations where like a slap in the face from a fish. Such harsh heartbreaking events. CAN NOT WAIT for book 2

I did not like this... AT ALL. I should have stopped before I did... DNF @ 85%

The FMC is a twin. She has to take the place of her murdered sister to find out who murdered her sister. There's a Prince is suuuuper sexy, a singer musician, who is also a vampire and ALSO has to pick a wife, in a bachelor style situation, from a group of humans. The FMC sees a hottie in a club singing all sexy and she's like yum yum, only to find out later he's the vampire Prince. The FMC must take the place of her dead twin in the choosing wife competition... the hitch, she's a witch and the MMC is a vampire... Vampires hate witches and witches hate vampires. SOOOOO THEY CAN'T BE TOGETHER. Buuuuuut the MMC wants the FMC realllllll baddddd (he thinks she's a human)... she wants him too but she caaaaaan't... if he finds out she's a witch, he wonnnnn't underssssstannnnd...

Forever and ever and ever and ever and ever that goes on... they want each other -- he professes his want of her, she says no I can't be with you, but then is like but I am so attracted to him, and they have sexy moments, but then she pushes away and says, no I can't. Pick one of the others, and he's like no I want you, and she's like, I want you too, but I can't be the woman you need. etc. etc. etc.

If I had a nickel for every time she thought, I should tell him what I really am, (a witch) but I'm worried about what he'll think of me, afraid he'll reject me, so I can't tell him...

There's an annoying mean girl...

I liked the MMC's brother the best...

Didn't care for the writing. Didn't care for the plot. Didn't care for the characters.

•Secrets!•

Wow! I am so emotionally invested in this book and the characters, like I need more NOW!

First off, I’m just gonna say it, the last couple chapters are explosive and left me with such anticipation as to where we are headed with book two. (Yes it’s a cliffhanger, be forewarned.)

The characters in this book, as I’ve already said, and the way K. M. Rives wrote them had me feeling bonded to them from start to finish.

Emery especially is an incredible heroine who I fell in love with due to her immense inner strength, intelligence, independence, wit and sass. I can honestly say she has slid right into the top spot of my favorite h’s in any book I’ve read. She’s steadfast in her decisions which is sometimes a quality h’s seem to falter in, I enjoyed the change.

August, ooooh August!!!! Dreamy, drool-worthy, fall head over heels, hot as sin AUGUST!!!! My god this man, err vampire, had me hooked on him from his first appearance in the book. While some things he did irked me, it honestly makes it that much more exciting to see how things will play out in regards to him going forward.

Last character I am going to touch on specifically is Malcolm because WHEW, this older brother to August charmed my heart in a whole other way than August. The relationship built between him and Emery and the parts showing his relationship with August were some of my absolute favorites to read. He’s a unique character who will give you a chuckle, wrap his sweet soul around your heart at the same time that it’s breaking for him.

Everything about this book is worth the read. The pacing is flawless, the steaminess is break out a fan worthy and most of all the story in itself is one that is incredibly well thought out and articulated perfectly.

I am on the edge of my seat for book two. If you are unsure due to it being part of a series, I assure you this is worth reading even with that in mind, while waiting for the next one.

It’s been months since I have had the urge to read anything paranormal in nature (you’ll notice by my last few reviews, I’ve been overindulging in the alpha athlete genre for a bit!), so getting a chance to receive the Advanced Reader Copy of The Replacement by K.M. Rives was one I jumped at.
Vampires – Check
Witches – Check
Bacheloresque dating rituals – Check?
Without ruining the book for you, because I would NEVER, let me give you the basic premise, which is what had me hooked.

Emery Montgomery is dragged against her will into a hidden war between vampires and witches after the Culling mark appears on her wrist. Desperate to get to know her sister after her untimely death, Emery reluctantly agrees to take her place in the Culling, a Bacheloresque situation where human women are chosen to vie for the attention of the vampire prince, Augustine. The goal: to earn a place at his side as his vampire queen. Emery doesn’t want to be queen, she only wants to solve the mystery of her sister’s death, and besides that, Emery has her own secrets she needs to keep safe – but we all know that in paranormal romance books, things never go as the heroine plans.

I literally could not put this book down and I was SO UPSET when it was over. I’m not kidding, I messaged the author immediately and said we could not be friends for a bit because the cliffhanger at the end had me spitting mad.

And as any good author who writes a stunning cliffhanger, K.M. laughed her evil writer laugh and basically said she was happy that I was mad about it.

Ugh.

Typical insane writer who enjoys causing her readers pain and heartache.

The Replacement has a wide cast of characters, some who need their throats slit, some who absolutely break my heart, and some who have me arching a brow in surprised attraction. Rives has done an excellent job weaving the first book to enchant her readers, and has perfectly set herself up for a great series. Besides the continuation of August and Emery’s story (which cannot come soon enough and K.M. knows how I feel on how quickly this needs to happen), there is the potential for at least 3 other characters to have their own series.

What I loved about The Replacement is the absolute refreshing take on vampire and witch lore – why no one else (at least to my knowledge) has come up with this premise or history, I have no idea, but this book is everything I never knew I wanted.

It’s like a marriage between Buffy and Bridgerton and the Bachelor.

I cannot recommend this book enough.

Also, if you buy the book when it comes out on March 30th, please follow K.M. Rives and light a fire under her to get this second book published because I NEED TO KNOW WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN, DAMMIT!

I couldn’t help but binge this book. IT. IS. INCREDIBLE.

“Fate was a motherfucker”

I do love an enemies to lovers troupe and oh boy did this book deliver!
If you like enemies to lovers, witches, vampires, sass, spice, tension, and smut, I cannot recommend this book enough!!

“We’re all pawns in this game, lass. It’s high time we started making moves to ensure the endgame we want.”

After the unexpected death of her twin, Emery Montgomery finds herself bound to the vampire royals, and a member of the Culling (a vampiric version of the Bachelor). Surrounded by her enemy, Emery needs to focus on keeping her witch heritage a secret, and find out what happened to her sister. But of course, it’s not that simple. As she finds herself drawn to the insanely sexy vampire prince, August Nicholson, trying to keep her distance and not fall for him becomes more and more difficult.

“Finding love, especially an epic love, is limitless. It’s not bound by the prejudices we are taught. It removes us from the cage we’ve been shacked in by society and can set us free.”

This was such an enjoyable read. Emery is sassy, sarcastic, strong, but also vulnerable, and I couldn’t help but swoon over the two vampire princes, Malcom and August.

I also looooved all the little Scottish additions (because, you know, we Scots are amazing lol).

The storyline had me hooked! So many twists that I didn’t see coming, I AM NOT OKAY!!!

I cannot wait for book two to see where this story takes us next!!

*Thank you so much K.M. Rives for my ARC copy!*

This book is hands down one of my favorite reads from 2021! It was like the adult mashup of The Selection and Vampire Diaries! It was SOOOOOO good!

I was captivated instantly by this story and loved that it was full of twists and turns! The history between witches and vampires was so mysterious and I have the feeling there are going to be some BIG reveals in book two!

I loved the two main characters, Emery and August. Emery is torn between her heritage and her feelings for August. August is torn between his duty to his people and his wish for love. Both were very likable and their flaws brought an interesting dynamic to the story.

The one thing I absolutely loved about this book was the chemistry! I was about to throw my Kindle against the wall on numerous occasions because of how hard these two character fought against their feelings! The jealousy, the possessiveness, the ANGST! All soooooo good!

This book did end on a BIG cliffhanger! Like shit went down right before this book ended and I was there for it! I think I am one of a few who loves a good cliffhanger and this one did not disappoint! I can’t wait to get my hands on book two!!!

So many questions…

This was ok at best. Again, here’s another book that confounds and frustrates me. The insta-lust and arousal monologues nearly drove me up the wall. I don’t care for alleged connection between the MCs. I don’t understand why they think they’re in love. How can you fall in love with a person with whom you’ve barely interacted? Make it make sense. Something else to note: nothing really happened in this book. Yes, there’s a mystery to solve, a looming war, and secrets to unravel. But nothing happened in this book. You can’t center your story in Bachelor-like environment (and yes, I’m talking about the cheesy show with rose ceremonies) and not include one real romantic date. Weird. But most of all, this book is missing depth. It’s quite shallow. Apart from a few swoon-worthy lines, it’s not memorable. Will I read the next book? Maybe. Maybe not. I’m just not invested enough.

The only positive thing I can say about this book is that I was interested enough to finish it. Otherwise this was a bad read. It's been a couple of weeks since I finished this, so this will likely be a bit short based on what I remember. But I do know I disliked it.

The plot is very very thin. The characters lack depth. The storyline was really lackluster, but I would be sucked in wondering what would happen. August is an odd main character. His relationship with Emery makes no sense at all. Their relationship was basically insta-love, which I despise. The general plot of this story was almost juvenile, and cheesy. The ending was okay... but kind of lame? I don't know, this wasn't for me.

I don't recommend this to anyone... it's just... bad...

Originally read through Kindle unlimited. Loved it so much I bought a copy to keep.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It sets up a much larger world I am very excited to see built upon. As a first outting for this author I am truly impressed. I tend to be a harsher critic of storyline and character building than the average person I think. I had very few complaints here. I will say the book needed one more pass through for some very minor editing mistakes. The good thing is they weren't the type to rip you out of the story which is why I only deducted half a star. Editing can be much harder on smaller, independent publishers but let's face it mainstream books usual have errors as well.

The thing I liked about this book is that it far exceeded my expectations going in. I hate The Bachelor but I love vampires and witches so I figured I'd try it. To my great delight this book calls out a few of the tropes including the rediculous nature of contests like The Bachelor while also cultivating a real connection between the main characters. This book doesn't make it easy for them. You don't feel insta-love. You definitely feel insta-lust though. The other thing this book nails are the steamy scenes. They aren't repetitive, cringe worthy, childish, or over the top but they are delicious. The main characters are likeable in the way that you can empathize with almost all of them to some degree. They are fully rounded, emotional people with many driving forces.

One thing that was interesting for me was the book jumps right in. You get the backstory along the way but start pretty much in the thick of it. At first I found that jarring but the more I read and thought on it the more perfect that choice became. It let's you live it and feel it with the character versus being told it. I commend the author on this. It's almost like she thought her readers were capable of being smart enough to run with her versus crawl.

Lots of potential for where this series can go. Lots of twists and turns ahead I'm sure. Definitely some multidimensional characters to come. If you like steamy books and the paranormal fantasy genre I definitely recommend this book. It has some urban fantasy and what feels like historical fantasy thrown in for good measure.

Love The Bachelor or hate The Bachelor this book may still be for you. Give it a shot. It's a quick, fast paced read.

WOW! This is a debut book by this author and it's a very impressive one.
I love fantasy books and this has all my favorites in one story.
Vampires and witches are the main characters in the story.
This book begins a little slow, but after the introductions and some needed explanations, the book take of to the world of secrets, mysterious stories and raw emotions.
The book takes place in the world of royal vampires and where the witches are the most hated enemies.

But what happens when a vampire prince falls in love with a witch, without knowing of her heritage?
Will the hate-filled past allow the love to survive, or will lies, secrets and power games, that vampires and witches grew up with win?

This book is a dark scorching hot fantasy book with many twists and turns, that make the story a gripping page-turner.

This is the first book in a series and I just started reading the second book.
I hope the sequel will explain a few very burning questions that, in the first book, led to a monster cliffhanger.

At first I wasn't sure I'd be a fan of Emory, but she grew on me, and so did August. I liked that we got his point of view; that really helped me care for him. There was insta-attraction, but I wouldn't call it insta-love, especially since they both took a long while to admit their feelings. I was frustrated with Emory for putting off something that needed to be done much earlier in order to sate her lust instead. I'm not surprised with a particular plot point that happened because of that, but I was still surprised by other characters stepping up!

I'm really bummed it ended so abruptly, and I hope the next book will be coming out soon!

The blurb got me with this book. I was intrigued, and I went in knowing this was a fantasy world of witches and vampires. I was told it’s like The Bachelor, and after getting into this book, I agreed, though it gave me Hunger Games vibes too. I was hooked from page one. This story includes the immortality of vampires, it’s also set in the present day, with the conveniences that we are familiar with. It was such a great example of world blending, I felt like I could live in this world.

Emery is the best. Sassy, brave, and true to herself. She takes no sh!t from anyone. When she meets August, it’s like no one else exists. She becomes thrust into this world full of politics and danger, and she’s trying to balance who she is at the same time.

The plot is intricate, with twists throughout. I truly had no idea where this book was taking me, and the ride was amazing. The steam- SCALDING. Think fated mates + blood lust. Even the initial scenes, where they were just meeting each other, it was like their bodies knew they were in the same room.

I cannot wait for the next book of the series!

Story 📖: 5/5 engaging and kept me hooked!
Heat 🔥: 4/5 limited scenes, but the magnetism 🥵🥵🥵 and the scenes that were there were volcanic!
Cliffhanger 🏔: 3/5 left with a pretty significant continuation, but no danger/excitement

Vampire Bachelorette

This was a KU recommendation that popped for me. I never expect much and typically only read the first chapter before I toss it back…BUT, this one caught me and I read the entire book in one sitting.
So much fun, a vampire bachelorette with a twin death mystery. Can’t wait to read the entire series.

Thank you so much to the author for allowing me to read an advanced copy! <3

This book was EXACTLY what I needed after finishing my previous, very emotionally draining read.

This is how I would pitch The Replacement; imagine a new adult version of The Selection series, The Vampire Diaries/The Originals, and From Blood and Ash all combined into one book. If that doesn't sell you I don't know what will 😂

The Replacement is a new adult (urban) fantasy romance. Emerie is suddenly thrust into a life of royal courts, mysterious deaths, magic and brooding vampire princes... and that's all I'm going to say on the plot because I don't want to unintentionally spoil one of the ever many plot twists!!

The romance in this book was 🔥🔥🔥, at first I found it too insta-lovey for me, but then as I kept reading I was able to understand the development of this relationship, and especially once you get towards the end 👀

As I often say, I'm big on character relationships, especially friendships! Emery's growing friendship with Chelsea and Flora was so endearing and great to read. I also just loved Emery as a character, her no nonsense attitude, her sarcasm, her compassion for those she loves...ahh she's a great MC ❤️

I have one small criticism and it's this; I LOVE the 'I will kill anyone who touches her' trope, it's one of my favourites. However, and this is just a personal preference thing, I sometimes felt the male love interest become overly possessive. But I was more forgiving of this towards the end of the book and you'll see why!

Overall, a great read that I finished in a day because it was so addictive! That ending has me so excited and so anxious to get my hands on the second book!

I really enjoyed reading The Replacement by K.M. Rives! It was such an amazing experience to dive head first into a paranormal world filled with witches, vampires and a secret war playing out between the two. After the death of her sister, Emery is forced to take her sisters place in the Culling, a Bachelor type event, where the Crown Prince of the Vampires will choose his Queen. Only one problem, Emery has no interest in being his Queen. This book is fast paced and full of drama, romance and mystery. If you are looking for your next fun read, check out The Replacement by K. M. Rives. You will not be disappointed.

Thank you to K. M. Rives for sending me an Advance Reader Copy in exchange for an Honest Review! I thoroughly enjoyed it but now I need to know what is going to happen next.

Hmmm where to begin... I really enjoyed this read.. will I continue with book 2? Yes, definitely!! So you’re probably wondering why the 3 stars.. here goes...

Will contain spoilers***

The overall story is appealing. The idea of witches and vampires first off def drew me in. And the forbidden love mixed in.. you know it will be a wild ride, And that aspect was. August and Emery’s connection is FIRE... the inner dialogue of yes I want them/no I can’t got a little tiresome.. but when they finally gave in.. it was worth the wait even though it was very short lived.

Where it got me... the story line.. ugh I wanted more! Sloane was murdered and that was the whole reason for Em being there.. I just feel like nothing came out of it. It was very slow building, small details released here and there, and then at the end BAM things came out but they were still so vague.. I would have loved more “detective” work.. finding out why it happened and who exactly. More details about the BIG picture that Callum and Lily know but aren’t saying. I just felt like it was a character/romance driven read when it had the potential to be so much more.

I am hoping book 2 really starts unveiling more of the “war” that’s brewing and the reasons behind it.. and of course Em and August to reunite the way they should be.. Bc they are def otp :) oh and Malcolm.. def more Malcolm please LOL

I LOVED this book!!! Did I say I loved this book? I really couldn't get enough. I was gripped from the first page and this damn book wouldn't let me go. August **swoon** was so great. He is all I ever wanted from an alpha vampire and was perfect for sweet but sassy Emery. KM Rives was a new author to me and did not let me down. I will be looking for more of her in the future. I can't wait for book 2 to see where this story goes.

So it starts out with Emery knowing she has to go and fill her twin sisters shoes, but actually has to pretend to be her. Her sister was murdered so she is taking her place as her in the culling and trying to find out who murdered her sister. This culling is for a bride for the prince vampire August 😍. Well no one knows she and her sister are witches, but their powers have been bound so they can’t use them. However, witches and vampires are mortal enemies. So she’s just going to do this cuz it’s her duty and bound by this culling. However, her and August has this unmistakable bond that is drawing them together. Both are confused and in awe by how they feel when around each other. So they are trying to work together to find the murder while figuring out their feelings for each other and get caught up in some pretty steamy situations 😏😍.

All in all, I loved the story in general. It had a vampire diaries feel, but with a more sophisticated atmosphere, more In depth about vampires and bonding with each other, with the culling being like a Vampire The Bachelor. Also the mystery aspect had me guessing and the ending had me wanting for more!! Emery and August relationship is steamy, sexy, a forbidden love, with lots of pining for each other. August is a true book boyfriend that any girl will fall for 🥰😍.

Absolutely Amazing!

This book was an absolutely amazing read! I couldn’t put it down and it ended up being one of those all night reads! The characters were all so developed and I could not get enough of Emery and August! It does leave on a cliffhanger which is always a bummer, but I will be waiting patiently for the next book! This author is stunning in her writing and I will be reading everything I can get my hands on from her!!!

THIS CONTAINS NO SPOILERS!!
If you are looking for a spicy vampiric twist on the bachelor then look no further, The Replacement is your book. This book made me want a second part so bad. The main character Emery suddenly has to take the place of her dead twin in the culling of Prince August. Enemies surround them, wars between factions kept at bay and steamy interactions between Emery and August. This book needs a hot cup of tea and a few hours alone.
