हम जितने होते हैं वो हमें हमसे कहीं ज़्यादा दिखाती है। कभी एक गुथे पड़े जीवन को कलात्मक कर देती है तो कभी उसके कारण हमें डामर की सड़क के नीचे पगडंडियों का धड़कना सुनाई देने लगता है। वह कविता ही है जो छल को जीवन में पिरोती है और हमें पहली बार अपने ही भीतर बैठा वह व्यक्ति नज़र आता है जो समय और जगह से परे, किसी समानांतर चले आ रहे संसार का हिस्सा है। कविता वो पुल बन जाती है जिसमें हम बहुत आराम से दोनों संसार में विचरण करने लगते हैं। हमें अपनी ही दृष्टि पर यक़ीन नहीं होता, हम अपने ही नीरस संसार को अब इतने अलग और सूक्ष्म तरीक़े से देखने लगते हैं कि हर बात हमारा मनोरंजन करती नज़र आने लगती है। —मानव कौल

Badi hone tak , Covid , Mai Hindu desh ka musalman , shunya ke baad ek are some of favourite poems from this book. This is the thing about Manav, he will make you pause and think about your life, about yourself and then continue reading with a different perspective.

मानव एक बेहतरीन अदाकार होने के साथ साथ बहुत ही अच्छे लेखक भी है। मैंने पहले मानव को फिल्मों में एक अभिनेता की तरह जाना, फिर उनकी पढ़ी कविताओं और उनके दिये गए इंटरव्यू में उनसे मुलाक़ात हुई। और एक दिन आखिरकार मन बना के मानव की किताबों को खोल ही डाला।
विस्तृत... अद्भुत...

उनका लिखने का तरीका मानो उनके अंदर उनके मन की किसी गुफ़ा में सैर करने जैसा है। उनके घर के दीवारों पर लटकी छिपकली भी जिनमें शामिल होती हैं। सरल। सुमधुर।
मैंने पहले उनका उपन्यास अंतिमा पढ़ा। साथ ही ऑनलाईन उनकी कुछ कविताओं को भी पढ़ा।
एक सवाल मन में उठता ही रहता था - मानव ने कोई कविताओं की किताब अभी तक नहीं लिखी?
*उनकी रचनाओं में फिर चाहे वो theater हो या फिर कोई कहानी, उनकी किसी न किसी कविता का होना जरूर होता है।

और फिर तो जब मानव अपनी नई कविताओं की किताब ले आये तो मन में काफी उत्सुकता थी उसे पढ़ने की, देखने की, क्या क्या लिखा होगा, क्या कुछ रहने दिया होगा, आगे अपनी कहानियों के लिए।

और अपनी अन्य किताबों की तरह ही उनकी यह किताब, 'कर्ता ने कर्म से' बहुत ही सुंदर है।
उनकी वो कविता, मुझे बहुत ही पसंद है जो उन्होंने अंतिमा में उनके एक किरदार के लिए लिखी थी, पतंग,

'मैं पतंग हूँ जिसे अपने उड़ने पर गुमान है
क्योंकि मेरे सामने हँसता मुस्कुराता आसमान है
क्या तुम वो धागा हो जिससे मैं बंधा हूँ
या वह हाथ जिससे मैं सधा हूँ
जब कट जाऊँगा तो बहुत दुख होगा
पर इसमें कसूर किसका होगा?'

इस संग्रह में से उनकी कविता, 'सही है' और 'शून्य के बाद एक' काफी पसंद आई।

Below average to me!
There is a high chance that I could not cipher the depth of most of the poems, but I felt most of the poems were below average. Even at times, the poems had an abstract connection with the next lines, and many poems' tonality and repetitive tones were annoying. The poems, though, in many places, had the touch of Nagarjuna and vinod kumar shukla, especially the poem of the latter hathatsa se ek vyakti.
The poems that I loved from his extensive collection were: joota, shunya ke baad ek, mai chor hun, intezaar, humara manoranjan, suitcase, raat.

I don't know much about appreciating poetry or making a good sense of it. But here I am, writing two words about the first ever book I have picked up by the author. The poems use simply language (thankfully) and many of them does impress. However, some, makes you want to think about what exactly that meant! In totality, given the celebrity like status of Kaul, you go through and finish the book. If it is by some debutant, one would have given it a pass.

कुछ चीजें जोड़े में आतीं हैं, जैसे ताला और चाबीं,
जैसे 3D फ़िल्म बिना चश्मे उलझती नहीं,
इस किताब की आधी से ज़्यादा कविताएँ शराब के साथ जोड़ों में आयीं और “बूझो तो जाने” कह चिढ़ाने वालीं उलझने अपने आप सुलझतीं चलीं गईं ।
