I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. In reading the book you could picture the setting and characters. There are a few twists that you never expected and it kept you intrigued and you didn't want to put the book down until you found out what happened. Loved the ending, I highly recommend this book and hoping to read more from this new author A 5 star read
This is a fine first novel written with humor. It's a quick light read with elements of mystery and romance. The descriptions of the beautiful Cornwall setting are especially appealing.
Morwen Cottage was a finalist in the 2018 Soon to Be Famous Illinois Author Project.
Throughly enjoyed reading. The book was short and easy to read. It kept my interest and I did not want to put it down. A great book with a lot of suspense waiting around the corner. Kept me wondering what was going to happen next.
Morwen Cottage, by LeAnn L Morgan Pete of the Hill Press. 2019. 241 pages. Genres: Romance / Mystery
Rowena, emotionally shattered after her recent divorce from an unfaithful and manipulative husband, receives notification that she has inherited a property in Cornwall, England from her great-aunt. In an outburst and with the illusion of starting over, she sells everything she owns and with only her tourist visa and some money she flies to Morwen Cottage, where she makes a very good friendship with her neighbor, Mr. McGreevy. An accident at home, a series of mysterious murders in town and more than one secret will threaten Rowena's tranquility while she tries to rebuild her life and decide if she in the cold and picturesque area of Bodmin Moor or she returns to America.
Morwen Cottage is a short novel that can be read in a couple of short periods of free time or on a whole day without chores. The premise is interesting, the descriptions are detailed, the protagonist is charming and the promise of suspense is quite large. However, there are issues whose proposal makes it seem that they will have a great weight in history and then they end up resolving in a jiffy or losing relevance, like a fantastic fish that rises to the surface of a pond to eat a crumb of bread and then disappears deep down to never come back; while other events that could go unnoticed or that seem to contribute little to this particular story, are given much more attention. I would have loved that the story had embraced more the suspense and the mystery side, that it would have been much longer and that its author had developed in greater depth certain passages that proposed possible moments of great tension (the accident, the murders, the mystery of the break-in at Rowena’s property and her little personal secret).
I hope to see soon other stories written by LeAnn, developed with the same passion but with a little more calm and focus, with a bigger extension and with special attention to all those fantastic fishes in the pond.

Morwen Cottage, por LeAnn L Morgan Pete of the Hill Press.
"Gravitation is not responsible for people falling in love"
Rowena is an aspiring writer who dropped out of college to marry her boyfriend William, only to find herself being in a toxic relationship. After her divorce she learns that she have inherited an estate in England called Morwen Cottage, and a fine fortune from her great aunt Dr. Maud. This precious gift led her to genuine friends and unforgettable memories. There she develops confused heartfelt affection for her aunt's successor at the hospital Dr. Harry Reader. But as she left her old and traumatic life behind in the States and mends her new home, a few secrets are still pursuing her from her past life. A terrible crime and murder mystery hovers over Morcant and Rowena finds herself personally involved in the threat. Morwen Cottage is a short yet intriguing novel. Written in third person focusing on the protagonist Rowena, It is quick paced, simple and an easy read. The plot has got an element of thrill, mystery and surprise. I liked the characters, but since it was short and fast paced I failed to get deeper insight into the characters. However I adored the bonding and friendship of Rowena with Daisy and Simon and her neighbor Mr. McGreevy. Also the strong character development Rowena went through after her divorce is great. What I absolutely loved about the book is the calm and cozy aura of life at the countryside The author did a great job of depicting the plot, character building and conversations. I would rate this novel any lower because it was like pursuing a story in fast forward without much deeper insight and details. Also I felt that some conversations were left hanging without bringing up the subject again. And at some point some things came as a total surprise. And a lot of things went unexplained at the end, it was like the novel abruptly. I would totally recommend this book if you love to read a simple and quick book with the element of rush and surprise. It's one of those books that you can pick up as a light read and finish up in a single sitting.
I enjoyed reading "Morwen Cottage." LeAnn Morgan has a gift for writing a good scene that comes alive on the page. Her heroine, Rowena, is a fully fleshed character. There is a lot of excitement. She is stalked by a serial killer and falls for Dr. Harry Reader, the handsome Cornish physician. The only fault I found with this book was in the development of their romance. I really wanted it to be the major theme, instead, it kind of popped into existence. Still, reading this book is a very enjoyable way to spend an evening.
I was hoping it more. The backstory was not terribly original, but done as quick snapshot, it worked. The bulk of the tale rambled through good and lovely characters and how they helped to bring Rowena, the main character, back to a more balanced life. The crime was less than frightening, the mystery was ho hum and the conclusion was totally predictable. The romance was negligible at best, with no reason involved. Beautiful cover, don't be fooled, this is waste, with stilted dialogue that could have been a good book in the hands of a better author
The author has succeeded in writing a fast-paced and suspenseful mystery / romance about a character who, at the start of the story, is in a situation many readers will sympathize with. The reader gets a taste of life in a small village in the picturesque moorlands of Cornwall. Rowena and her friends and family are likeable characters, and the author had me wanting to know how things would resolve in the central mystery of the story.
I really enjoy reading this masterpiece. The usage of words, the arrangement of sentences, the perfect way of describing each characters and how the author picture the Morwen Cottage, I wish i lived there! i love the storyline and can’t believe that author successfully put plot twist all over her novel which is very surprising and unpredictable. Kuddos LeAnn ❤️
Great job on a story with lots of twists & turns & surprises. I enjoyed the characters. The story line was easy to follow. An easy read. I finished it in one day. Very admirable for a first novel. I see a bright future for this author.
Really enjoyable read what is so surprising that Miss Morgan an American has gained such a comprehensive feei for Cornwall and passes this on to her readers Wherever you are read and be transported to Cornwall
A very beautiful novel. I love the description of environment and the attention to details. Relationships between the characters are discriped in the most elegant way.
This is the second book I've read from this author. Her books are easy to read and very descriptive, enabling the readers to feel like they are actually there.
This book shares the life of Rowena who's marriage has ended, and she is left with nothing but a stack of bills to pay and shattered dreams. She inherits a cottage in a different country from an Aunt she has not seen in many years. As she travels to this foreign land she wonders why her aunt has chosen her for this inheritance.
Once she arrives, she sees that this adventure is not as dashing as she had hoped, for the cottage has not been lived in for many years. As she sets out to clean up and make the cottage into a home, she is befriended by an elderly neighbor and his faithful dog. They form a close relationship, which comes in very handy as people are being murdered in a nearby town, people she has recently come in contact with.
Rowena enjoys her close circle of new friends, including a handsome young doctor, and also discovers that she is pregnant. She knows that after the baby is born she will have to return to the states, if only to settle accounts. As she is getting ready to board her plane, she is attacked and learns who the killer is, who hired him, and why.
Meanwhile, the handsome young doctor heads to the airport to make one last effort to convince Rowena to stay for he has fallen deeply in love with her.
Will the doctor make it to the airport in time to save Rowena from the killer? Will he be able to profess his love and convince her to not return to the states?
This short novel is full of suspense and surprises you won't want to miss!
Many thanks to LeAnn Morgan and Booktasters for providing a copy of this book for an honest review. Morwen Cottage tells the story of Rowena. Divorced from her philandering husband, she contemplates what to do with her life when she receives a certified letter stating that she inherited property from her aunt in Cornwall, England.
Her life changes once she arrives to claim her inheritance. She meets a kindly neighbor, Mr. McGreevy who treats her like a daughter. She soon befriends Daisy, Simon, and Dr. Harry Reader, who she feels an attraction to.
Things take a dangerous turn when a series of break-ins and murders happen. A person of interest regarding the murders is none other than Harry Reader.
The suspense builds to a surprising and satisfactory conclusion. Morwen Cottage was an enjoyable read with likable characters and plot twists that kept me guessing until the end. An easy five stars, I recommend adding this story to your collection.
LeAnn Morgan’s first novel (not her first published work) is a quick read that I finished in one sitting. The story premise was great and obviously well thought out. I felt though that the flow would have benefitted from more action scenes (neither murder is lived; rather, reported) and deeper character dives into the h/H. Their attraction was obvious, the ‘falling in Love’ bit, not so much. I would also have loved a greater sense of place, especially since everything mostly unfolds in a rural setting in Cornwall, area specific dialect or quirks would be natural to the secondary characters. Thanks to #Booktasters and the author for a complimentary copy for a fair review.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a relatively short and easy to read story; the pacing was just right and kept me reading until the very end. You could not put it down you had to find out what happened next. The descriptions and the characters were written really well - a few twists and turns made it even more interesting but no spoilers here! Highly recommended 5 star read.
This book was a very good book. The imagery was beautiful and I really felt like I was at the side of the main character through the whole story. Such a beautiful story with plenty of unexpected twists and turns to keep you hooked. Really recommend reading.
Great cozy mystery... Rowena was astonished to discover her paternal great-aunt, a woman she'd never met, left her entire estate in Cornwall U.K. to her. So she packed up everything she had going thru a divorce and left.
Don't remember why I picked to read this. I think I thought it would be a lot heavier suspense wise, but it is mostly romantic. If you like that kind of novel, you'll probably like this one
The first thing that you notice about Morwen cottage is that it is very well written. The writing and language make for very smooth reading. The characters are very nicely developed. Enough red herrings to keep you engrossed. The final reveal though might not be to everyone's liking.
Morwen Cottage was in the 'Soon To Be Famous Illinois Author Project Finals' in 2018. This is my first novel and I've since discovered writing is an ongoing learning process. During the Covid lockdown in 2020, I reread Morwen Cottage and noticed many novice mistakes, so I rolled up my sleeves and updated and revised the original version. Seven thousand words have been added and I'm happy to say I'm finally pleased with the results.
I enjoyed the book a lot. It was close to 5 stars, but then the main character started expecting a baby; it didn't spoil my enjoyment of the book, it was just unnecessary.
