Un trattato abbastanza breve di storia naturale per dare finalmente la giusta attenzione al più sfortunato degli animali: il nuovo libro di Noemi Vola ha per protagonista il lombrico, anche detto verme di terra o, più semplicemente, verme. Dalle abitudini alimentari ai comportamenti bizzarri, dall'habitat sotterraneo alle diverse sfumature di rosa che può assumere, c'è moltissimo da scoprire sul verme: eppure nessuno - con l'illustre eccezione di Charles Darwin - sembra essersi mai interessato a lui. Molti aspetti del suo mondo restano perciò ignoti alla scienza: come ha fatto a eludere la selezione naturale? A cosa serve la sua coda? E perché si ostina a scavare interminabili gallerie nella terra? Quello che sappiamo per certo è che il lombrico non va assolutamente confuso con il bruco, e che la sua vita non è priva di pericoli e rocambolesche avventure. Come quando arriva un temporale e un fulmine cade nel posto sbagliato: per il verme, e la sua coda, niente sarà più come prima. Mescolando osservazioni scientifiche e folgorante ironia in oltre 200 pagine illustrate, Sulla vita sfortunata dei vermi ci racconta di un piccolissimo animale che si trova ad affrontare grandi cambiamenti e grandi domande. Dit is zo’n lief, fantasievol boek over een diertje dat bijna geen aandacht krijgt en wat ik eigenlijk hartstikke vies vind. Dat heet de schrijfster/ illustratrice echt heel knap gedaan!

Oblideu-vos dels llibres "d'emocions", d'influencers que us "volen explicar coses", dels manuals d'autoajuda encoberts: feu el favor d'agafar aquest llibre, llegir-lo amb la canalla i després, parlar-ne. I així, amb tots els llibres bons que parlen de coses de la vida. El que aparentment sembla un llibre per a infants sobre cucs, acaba sent un relat sobre separació, pèrdua, tristesa i trobar la pròpia identitat. Perquè es poden fer bons llibres, ben escrits i parlar de tot això, sense que siguin manuals d'autoajuda.

Klassieker in wording?* - Ik las nog nooit een boek over regenwormen, tot nu. Zelfs zonder al die andere boeken over regenwormen (bestaan ze wel?) gelezen te hebben, roep ik dit boek uit als allerbeste regenwormenboek ooit. Zonder twijfel! Humoristisch, vol knipoogjes, boeiend én absurd, ontroerend (niemand houdt echt van de regenworm), illustraties die perfect bij de sfeer en het onderwerp passen... Doe jezelf een plezier en gun je leven dit prachtige boek van Noemi Vola. De regenwormen zullen het weten te waarderen!

Zoonlief van acht, schrok bij het zien van dit boek: “Dat kan ik toch niet lezen, dit boek is veel te dik, dat krijg ik nooit uit?!” Gelukkig was de kleur roze wel ok en gaat het over iets uit de natuur, dus we kwamen overeen dat het een voorleesboek zou worden. Na het lezen van de vele kleine lettertjes van het voorwoord en de inleiding, ontdekte zoonlief dat het boek wel degelijk als hardop-zelfleesboek kon doorgaan. We hebben enorm gelachen om de grappige en onzinnige wormeninformatie in woord en beeld. Hoewel je in het begin denkt dat het een informatief boek is, is het vooral een hoop creatieve onzin bij elkaar en dat maakt het boek en de regenworm zo ontzettend leuk!

En zoonlief is weer een leeservaring rijker: de buitenkant zegt niet altijd hoe het verhaal is!

One of the strangest and most original books I have read - about a worm having a crisis of identity after he is seperated from his tail. The art has lots of fun details, and the book is sometimes sad, other times hopeful

I picked this up at my library after my local indie bookstore posted about it saying it was "an earthworm picture book for adults". I do think it is perfectly acceptable for children, maybe moreso than adults. The first few chapters are vaguely scientific, and the last ones are more strongly picture book in terms of plot. There is enough existentialism that I can see why the store said it was geared toward adults. This is a book likely well-suited for the slightly quirky bug fan in your life, be them young or old.
