Dance with Me #1

Curtain Call

Rate this book
What do you do when you come from a long line of dancers that spans the globe and generations, yet you can't tell your right foot from your left? You fall in love with a dancer, of course!
Gray Rickman is an awkward seventeen-year-old when she first sets eyes on Christian Scott at the dance studio/theater Gray's parents own and run in Denver, Colorado.
Though only a handful of years older than Gray, Christian carries herself with poise and wisdom far beyond her years. A woman of few words, she speaks volumes with her body.
Before Gray even really knows what her type is, Christian stars in endless daydreams and even fulfills a couple of her fantasies before vanishing out of thin air, leaving Gray in an empty bed with nothing but bittersweet memories and broken dreams.
With no choice but to move on, Gray attempts love, even moving with her college girlfriend to New York City to pursue a career in journalism. But her standard has been set, the bar way too high for any other woman to reach or clear. It's an unexpected encounter in an obvious place when Gray sets eyes on her dancer again. Will the bright lights of Broadway illuminate the way back to the woman of her dreams? Or will they blind her to any other possibility of happiness?
Break a leg, Gray. The Great White Way calls.

Seventeen-year-old Grey fell in love with Christian the moment she saw her dancing at her parents studio in Denver. But soon after Christian disappeared.
Grey went to college and then moved to New York to start her career in journalism. There she met Christian again, now the star of a Broadway show. But the way to happy ending is always a bumpy road...

I love the books of Kim Pritekel. Her stories are always so much more than a simple romance. That's why I keep on reading her writings since the old fanfic times.

Kim Pritekel takes you on a wonderful journey with the backdrop of dance and theater and leads Gray and Christian.
Through Gray's struggle with her sexual orientation, Christian's childhood trauma, secrets, pain, anger and much more, the author's writing reached into and tugged at my heart. This storyline has light and dark moments, changes through circumstances, recognition of one's true talents and dashes of heat. Through it all, I so wanted Gray and Christian to find happiness.
This is not a rushed romance but a slow dance with scene changes along the way that builds towards a beautiful ending.
I recommend with 5 stars and look forward to the sequel.

„Painfully, beautifully Intimate“

That's a quote from that book, and it's the perfect description for this story.
It's intense and engaging.
It had me under control until the end.
I had no expectations of this book as I hadn't heard of it.
Writer Kim Pritekel had a couple of ARCs for an honest review and I thought, "Why not, the plot sounds really interesting".
It was so much more.
The characters are so well rounded and cute, but with the right dose of humor and wit.
It begins with a bittersweet journey from Gray, who finds herself and accepts it.

Gray and Christian struggles, hopes and my hopes that they would find each other stayed with me even after I had finished reading the book. It touched me.
I love that about a good book, and this is a great book!

Gray and Christian have an undeniably hot chemistry from the start and you know when it is this intense it will cause a lot of heartache.
Not only for Gray or Christian, but also for us readers ...
Especially this scene in the club ... I don't want to spoil anything ... but that was really hot!
I've suffered with Gray all along because it's difficult to come to terms sexually with your own, but to do it with such an intense first love and experiencing so many emotions as you come to terms with your family and then is difficult .
The paths these two main characters go and the decisions they make will sooner or later bring them back together in New York and then this intense and undeniable chemistry continues ...

If you want to read a wonderful story full of suppressed but also fulfilling emotions, a lot of passion, a difficult past with a longer path to a sweet happy ending, then you are absolutely right with this book!
I loved it!

I am always surprised when I finish reading a Kim Pritekel book! They're each so different and well researched that it amazes me with the different subjects that are covered.

I just finished Curtain Call , It's a beautiful love story. I wasn't sure that I would like a story about Ballet but this was not what I expected, so much better. I highly recommend grabbing this book now to read.

very good book

Coming of age, figuring out you’r gay and falling in love with your first woman. A lot to have happen to an 18 year old. But to wake up alone and to always dream of your first love is really hard. Very good book with a HEA.

What a wonderful novel! This is my second book I've read of hers and I will be reading many more. This book had it all - second-chance (& first-chance) romance, coming out, toaster-oven, dance, passion, overcoming trauma, ...

At first this appeared a simple Coming Out story but the deeper tale told of the damage done to our top Olympians at such young ages. The other tale is the wonderful world of dance. Great title

I read Kim's Wynter series and became a fan of her work. I finished Curtain Call (Dance with Me #1) and loved it. Kim has a talent for making the main characters in her stories seem like people you know. You fall in love with them, you feel their triumphs and their pain, you are rooting for them the whole time. I'm currently reading the sequel. It is just as good and I don't want their story to end. Kim is an extraordinary writer. I highly recommend this book.

I am in awe, like, literal awe

even I don’t understand how or when I fell completely in love with the book??

not only were all the characters beautifully written, but all of their relationships, our mc and her parents, our mc and her best friend and of course her and our love interest, literally every aspect was so beautiful.

the progression of the story felt so natural throughout, it was crazy

I loved and enjoyed the descriptions very much, from the dance performances to the smallest of eye contacts, I could see and feel everything

christian, our love interest was a woman of few words, and feeling her presence so deeply in a book which is made up of words? I feel like that says enough

I loved it.

Curtain Call (of course)

edit: reread it and loved it all over again, thank you very much
