As a yoga teacher I reference this book all the time. so much good information. The sequences are fabulous to pull inspiration from. Lots of basic information on the chakra systems which would make it perfect companion to a yoga teacher in training. Everyone I've talked to who is in the know loves this book and for good reason. Very thoughtfully written and designed (color coded edges as tabs!!) I would purchase the physical copy if I were you. It will not collect dust on your bookshelf that is for sure. If anyone has the Ebook let me know what you thought Id like to know.
If I could give this book six stars, I would give it six stars. An expert on chakras and a long-time yoga practitioner, Anodea Judith brings her considerable wisdom to this book, offering easy-to-follow instructions for how to use yoga to engage the chakras. Highly recommended.
7 months later + I’ve finally finished this book! It’s amazing what reading a book for months does for your brain. While it feels like I may have forgotten some key aspects of earlier chakras, the all-knowingness of the final chakra encompasses previous reading time. I love the poses associated with Judith’s text, though don’t personally resonate with all of them. I think that’s an important takeaway, that these sequences are essential to the foundation of the relationship between chakra/movement, but that your interpretation of the poses can also be just as beneficial. Obviously there are poses that share body space with each chakra, but I believe they are open to interpretation. Useful book throughout our training! Weird that we’re about to graduate.
As a yoga teacher, this is one of those books that I dip in and out of. Lovely colourful book which is easy to read and a good reference book for ideas to apply to teaching classes
If you are looking for a book that walks you through chakras in the yoga asana practice I would recommend this one. I loved the print version of the book with the glossy pages and the beautiful picture, but I decided to purchase the kindle version and for the most part the book is well laid out with just a few challenges but the text is clear and the pictures are still lovely. The book is easy to read and easy to navigate as a reference tool or you can read it through like a novel. A wonderful tool for yogis and energy practitioners alike.
One of my goals this year is to dig deeper into the philosophy of yoga. This one was a quick and comprehensive guide to understand the basics- definitely left me intrigued and curious. Chakras are (7) energy points that begin at the base of the spine and reach the crown of the head- each chakra drives a certain aspect of physical and emotional well-being , quite like Maslow's hierarchy- starting from the need to survive to self actualization. This book covered it all, with a couple of guided examples to open up each chakra :)
This is 3rd book I read from the same author. The book was written 2015 (8 years ago). The book has 7 chapters (1 per chakra) and contains 376 pages. As the book has nice illustrations of yoga poses, it can be quickly read. The author tries to connect a selection of yoga poses and associates each to one of seven chakras. I think the better explained Yoga pose is to go on YouTube and to look at the video movements rather than read it in the book.
This is a fantastic guide to Chakra based yoga. Anodea Judith is very thorough in her instructions about each pose. The book builds with the Root Chakra poses and builds through the Crown Chakra, specifying how each pose utilizes the energy of each chakra. I use it a great deal when I teach as well as in my own practice.
despite the physical weight of this tome (over 2.5 lbs which makes it difficult for me to maintain for any length of time..... this is absolutely the best book of this topic written by the master of the topic. It is a beautifully executed book that I will study for a good long time to come.
This is a re-read for me and I found it just as valuable the second time around. I initially read it when I started teaching from a chakric perspective. And while I often use different poses than Judith chose, the intentions and initiations she gives inspired me again, in a new way!
The Yoke of Yoga Opening the Inner Temple Chakra One: Enter Chakra Two: Align Chakra Three: Activate Chakra Four: Soften Chakra Fifth: Attune Chakra Sixth: Illuminate Chakra Seven: Awaken Integrate
The author discusses how yoga became a part of her life along with meditation. I have followed Anodea Judith’s work with chakra for years. I was unaware of her connection to yoga until my life coach mentioned it last year. I was glad to find this book since I did a chakra yoga class two summers ago. I think my favorite is the sixth chakra practice for the eyes. This book shows yoga poses that activate each chakra. There are multiple yoga poses for each chakra which includes a photo and description. Although some of the positions are challenging, the author stresses you caution and who should avoid each pose. If you enjoy yoga and working with chakras, this is an excellent resource for you.
