What is the difference between a door, an elbow, and me?
The first two have been banged, and I have not.
Ba-dum-tss.
That will soon change, though, because I refuse to step foot on college campus with my V-card still intact. Lainie Gray hereby swears to lose that thing once and for all before the end of summer vacation — which should be easy since I just so happen to live in one of the most popular beachy tourist destinations in the world.
Sexy summer flings abound.
If only my heart would stop leading me toward guys who are no good. After one breakup too many, the time has come for that particular organ to take a backseat.
Problem is, to get my head into the game, I need to shed several protective layers of myself first. Oh… clothes, too.
Cue panic.
I also need to stop using my friends as barricades so much. Carrick especially — my main bestie and roommate.
He would be my wingman, no questions asked, but I really need to take on this project solo. Plus, it would be kinda weird having him in the wings while I look for as many chip readers — ahem, guys — as possible to potentially slide my V-card into. The more options, the merrier, after all.
So, yeah, I need a plan. A smart one. Something bold… and brave.
Adell Ryan is a hubby/wife pseudonym. Adell writes unconventional love stories about fierce women and their numerous male suitors. Because let's be honest, we need more than one to satisfy our multi-dimensional needs. Right? Ryan simply puts up with Adell's crazy fantasies and toots her horn regularly. Occasionally he'll add in a shoulder pat, and a deep, sexy "Damn that's good stuff."
That southern boy (bless him) stole this northern girl's heart and they live together in the deep south, raising their three boys. When Adell isn't writing she's homeschooling — primarily working on dictation, making sure they say 'creek' instead of 'crick' and 'fire' instead of 'fer.' She also dabbles in photography and graphic design. Oh yeah, and reading. Every. Night. Much to Ryan's dismay. Sometimes she puts the steamy stuff down and gives him a quick kiss on the forehead though.
I was very fortunate to win an ARC of this book. Realising it was already live, I dived right in.
When I fell back in love with reading this was the type of book I was drawn to... Angsty, slow burn, young to new adult romantic comedies. I affectionately dubbed them my guilty pleasures. And this had it all in spades!
Lainie is our FMC and she has never had a positive adult role model. This shows in her personality. She's awkward, (almost) naive (especially when it comes to the opposite sex), oblivious, seriously lacking in self-confidence and quick to fall in lust.... Ooh, to be 18 again! Fed up of her luck (or lack there of) with the boys she has crushed on and tired of colouring between the lines she sets out to step outside her comfort zone, take risks and experience some firsts.
There are a slew of possible MMCs from her best friend to her teenage crush to the co-worker to the collegian. And what an interesting bunch they make!
Ultimately, Summer Blues was a much appreciated change from my usual troupe, a return to my roots and I'm honestly itching at the bit to get stuck into the next episode!
Summer Blues: Episode 1 by Adell Ryan and Anita Maxwell the first book in the Little Pink Book, Season 1 series.
Lainie aka Elle has had a hard few months with her last year of high school and in particular guys, but with a new determination and a personal goal to work towards, she’s working on herself. Oh and to lose her virginity before college starts, but which guy will she pick. The story follows her relationships, friendships and day to day life.
The story does have POV’s from Lainie as the main character and a few from Carrick.
This is a funny and heartfelt story with relatable characters. Overall it’s an enjoyable read with a different concept, and easy read without the plot being overly complicated.
My rating of the guys so far, because I’m curious to see how the series flows and who Lainie chooses. Huxley Carrick Thayne
You guys! YOU GUYS!!! I freaking love this new series. Instantly fell in love with it. Lainie Gray is such an amazing character. She is funny, sassy, so completely clueless. She will be off to college soon and before she heads out, she wants to lose that pesky little V-card. After her last boyfriend went and pulled a total jerk move, she decides to flip the script. Try things a little different. A little pink book of pros and cons for each candidate. And what a group of candidates we have. Lainie lives with her best friend Carrick and I love him so much. He is absolutely amazing and I hate that Lainie is so clueless when it comes to him. Alas, what would a high school, coming of age book be without the angst of unrequited love? That gives us a chance to meet some of these other amazing men in her life. This is absolutely a slow burn/slow build situation. There is no set group of guys and just b/c one is in the picture doesn't necessarily mean he stays there.
I can't tell you guys how much I love this series and these characters. Get ready to get your angst on b/c these two authors bring it. I love these two authors individually and together they are unstoppable. And yay for the fact that these episodes release so quickly together!
Now again, slow burn/slow build. If you are wanting some hot and steamy scenes, you are not going to find them here. At least not yet. Again, she's looking to lose her V-card. This is a cute, fun, flirty, angsty romance and if you dig those, you are going to fall just as in love with this series as I have.
“Never ever change, okay?” I insist to Kennedy, linking our arms together. She shoots me a funny look. “Changing is only for people who are unhappy with themselves.”
Okay stopppp! Huxley???? He's my favourite! Don't get me wrong, Car, Thayne and Becker are too, but I swear it was love at first sight between me and Huxley!
Now that we've got it cleared, moving on, this has hints of turning into a RH but it's not confirmed and maybe Lainey will break hearts but omg I'm so ready for the ride!
This is fun and different at the same time. No bullying etc for a potential RH. The throwing beads thing was new for me and woah, that really happens?
PG 13 teen romcom now but i bet it'll have adult content in future *smirk smirk*
The storyline involves Lainey who fantasies a future with a guy Evan but in the background we know 3 almost turning into 4 guys are interested in her (not classmates). The setting is highschool and even though some things sometimes sound weird/unsafe (?) it makes sense while reading since it's fiction.
PS: I think Kaxin will also enter the situation and the number would up to 5...maybe...
This is a really nice coming if age no rush sweet romance with a a great story line. Kept me on my toes and....that ending!! Can't wait for the next instalment. I really like the innocent way the lead fmc is written and hearing her best friend pov. I like that things are not rushed and it really took me back to those teenage angst feelings of romance and does he? Or should I? Really enjoyable!
I really enjoyed this book.. It is a coming of age kinda book. Falling in love with your best friend trope. Which I'm totally down for. I really loved Elle and Carrick.. The way this story pulled me in was really great even though I felt like I knew what was going to happen I still loved it.. Definitely a great read and my first by these authors.
Summer Blues: Episode 1 takes us back to those years when we were on the cusp of adulthood and had the world, and a smorgasbord of boys ahead of us. Anita Maxwell and her writing partners Adell Ryan have teamed up to write the addictive slow-burn, young/new adult serial romance which nails the angsty, soap opera vibes in in a party beach town over the summer break before college.
Summer Blues is a slow-burn reverse harem romance set across six novels, building in steam and harem size with each book. Laine has just finished high school and is determined to be rid of her V-card before she enters college. After an epic heartbreak with her ex-boyfriend Kaxin, Laine decides to approach this task using her head rather than her heart and forms her plan to use a Little Pink Book to list guys names rating them using their pros and cons. Laine is an intriguing character with a tragic and dark past who has lived emancipated with her best friend Carrick for the past year. She is also surrounded by a rather large number of attractive and interested single guys living in a beachside town with a party atmosphere. Summer Blues is like that gooey, sweet and fudgy ice-cream you know you shouldn’t indulge too much in but you cannot stop yourself because it is just so addictive. This angsty, drama packed romance is the book you didn’t know you needed to add to your collection.
At 167pages, Summer Blues: Episode 1 is a deliciously bite size and just long enough to make you want more. This light summer read both reminds of younger days and dangles the possibility of what it would have been like if reverse harems had existed back then.
I knew this one was going to be good but didn't know it was going to pull me in so fast! Right away I felt a connection to Elle and wanted to know more about her and her life. I loved Carrick right away, too. Typical in love with your best friend trope, and the poor guy is contending against a few heavy hitters, but we all know how this'll end up!
The ending of where this story is leading is petty obvious, but I wanna know the path it takes from the end of this book to where we know it's going. So many options! I do hope to see more of Huxley because he's hilarious and obviously knows his stuff.
Definitely give this one a try if you like unrequited love, young adult shenanigans, and books that make you laugh!
Nothing happens in this book? There’s no actual plot, and I will not be convinced that L calling for Evan only to find out he’s scum is a plot.
We are introduced to multiple male characters who clearly are vying for her attention and go nowhere with any of them. We end the book with her ex returning.
Sorry… it’s just too many characters that are flat, no real exposition, and I literally can’t continue this series knowing how bad this book was.
I absolutely love Lainie! And her determination to move past her heartache, and take a logical approach! I have a feeling it’s going to backfire on her though. Rarely does matters of the heart stay logical. all of these guys are fun, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us!
The slow burn in this book is real, please be patient with this. This is more realistic than any other RH, because the slow burn actually mimics life, and feelings. 💗💗
This book was absolutely awesome! Lanie Gray is a coming of age girl trying to find a boyfriend. We go on a ride with her with the help of her little black book of pros and cons of each guy, including the unrequited love of the best friend. It’s a slow burn, so don’t get your hopes up for the steamy. We’ll probably see it later! It’s a fun, cute, angsty read and I was not disappointed. I look forward to reading this series.
Wow! This book had such a unique plot line. Summer Blues kept me entertained from beginning to end… also had me second guessing myself. Is this going to be why choose? I hope so! I fell in love with Carrick instantly. You can’t go wrong with any of Elle’s potential suitors. I’m so excited to read more of this series. Summer Blues is an amazing coming of age angsty book I would definitely recommend.
What a fun and interesting start to a new series! It is a great, quick read and I am excited for the next episode! This book is sweet and angsty, with a little spicy thrown in (and I have a feeling the spice will grow with each book)! I love that this is not predictable and you don’t really know who or how many men there will be. I claim SD!😉
This was my first book by these authors and I have to say I’m intrigued. They had me from the beginning it was one book I couldn’t put down finished real quick and have to go download the next to see what happens.
I’m rooting so hard for Car however I can’t wait to see how this all plays out.
This book is a cute coming off age book for Lainie as she tries to find a worthy of her v-card. I'm interested in seeing how this story pans out. I hope she finds what she's looking for.
This book is great build up for what I know will be a great series. All the guys in her RH are introduced in this book 1 and their relationship with one another. A slight amount of spice happen with her and the guys. I can't wait to see where her Little Pink Book goes.
Summer Blues is a great coming-of-age book, Elle is just over the heartbreak after heartbreak, so what else can she do, but take the feelings out of her heart, and figure out how to lose her v-card with just her mind leading the way? No heart needed. Book one is all about building up the story and the background, and even introducing several "Maybe" men. The character build-up that Ryan and Maxwell create is amazing, I love watching Elle's interaction with ALMOST all of the other characters. This is a quick read and you will be finding yourself reaching for the next book.
This was a great start to the series. Great characters and enough going to keep you interested and wanting to find out how the story goes. Will Laine ever realise that Car is interested in her or will Thayne or Huxley get there first?
Writing was good. Story was interesting but some of the quirks where just a bit much and the amount of guys who wanted the FMC was ridiculous. Won’t be carrying on with the series.
This is such a cute book!! Its a coming of age book. Lanie Gray is determined to lose that pesky v card before she starts college. One problem! She is single and completely clueless to the guy who is desperately in love with her, her bestfriend!!best friend!!! She creates her only little black book of possible guys and finds herself in a impossible situation. She likes them all and can't choose!! This series is so good and can't wait to see how it all turns out.
