The first 30%, 40% were somewhat good but then I just felt the issues were piling up and I couldn't see past them anymore. I always try to see the good parts first, especially when it is an ARC I was genuinely interested in, but in this case the book just wasn't for me.

Pining for you is a nanny/boss romance with an age gap in a small town. Sounds good, right? That's what I thought when I first went into the story, then I discovered that the female MC, Skylar, is 21, meanwhile the male MC, Rhett, is 36. I don't usually have a problem with age gap in romances, but here it just felt wrong, in my opinion, when it was so rushed and she was inexperienced while he was quite controlling. Also the chemistry was nonexistent so it all felt even weirder when they slept together so fast, I mean hello I want to see their relationship develop some first?!

I liked the setting, the Christmas vibe and wanted to know more about Skylar's big family (I always dreamed about the chaos of a big family!!).

So, unfortunately this was a big miss for me but I know others have loved it, so I guess all I can say is to read it yourself if you are in for a Christmassy book with a taboo romance, a very cute kid and a big family who takes up the bigger part of Jasper Falls population.

Well, at least the cover was cute!

Thank you to Valentine PR for providing this ARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

*Thank you to the author and Valentine PR for the ARC of this title.*

This was my first book in the Jasper Falls series, but I am a fan of some of Lydia Michaels Dark Romances of yester year. So I wanted to give one of these contemporaries a try. This is an age gap, nanny romance, between a 21 year old woman and her boss who is the neighbor. She becomes a live in nanny for his young daughter and the tension in the mayoral mansion goes to extreme levels.

What I liked: Every character was extremely likable. I loved Rhett and his subtle alpha-ness... until its not so secret anymore. I loved Skylar and how relatable it felt that she felt a bit lost in her large family. And this job was away to have something for herself. And the steam was top notch, there wasn't too much of it but man... it was good.

What I didn't like: not too much bugged me, this was very pleasant, just a little bit Christmas-y without taking over the whole story. I wasn't a huge fan of how Rhett's assistant Erin was portrayed, I feel like the reason for her rudeness and bitterness didn't have a good enough explanation.

Overall, this was a good time and I am interested in reading some of the previous entries in the series.

This had my name written all over it- Christmas, age gap, slightly taboo with the nanny-boss vibe, small town charm, and a single dad? Like literally ALL of my favorite things- and the cutest cover to boot. I’m new to Lydia Michaels, and I’ve not read the rest of the Jasper Falls stories, but this had the potential to be a really great hit for me given how many of my boxes it checked.

And, there were parts of it I certainly enjoyed. I love a good boisterous family (and we have A LOT of that), we had just the right amount of Christmas flair, we have an adorable kiddo and a slow -building but ultimately satisfying chemistry. Both Skylar, our 21 year old nanny with big dreams and our hero, Rhett, the older mayor of Jasper Falls and single dad to daughter Addison are likable characters with their own charms and a delicious amount of sincerity. Rheet did take some time to warm up, but when he did, I found him so charming. He’s got a big heart underneath his veneer. And Skylar was just really relatable and likable as a heroine- she made the whole book for me. So, I liked them- but I had a really hard time diving into this story at first. I’d not read this author before so I didn’t know her writing style- and I’ve forgotten just how hard it is for me to connect with 3rd person narrative. The exposition felt overly long and we just have SO much other distracting elements that I felt distracted from the story at times rather than enhanced it. I loved the family dynamics, but they felt a bit much, and I might have felt differently had I read the prior books and knew some of these folks. And the whole seductive, plotting assistant element felt a bit tonally disconnected. But, nonetheless, I did enjoy the story as a whole and am excited to check out more from this series. It certainly gave me all the swoony feels once I got into, and I definitely felt all the fun festive romance vibes.

I started those series backwards. I also didn't read all the books in it, but sometime in the near future I will get to it. I first read Erin's book and I loved it. Yes, she redeemed herself, but in this particular story, I didn't love her. She was the third woman (and a little bit of a villain here). Since then, I wanted to read Skylar's book, but never got the chance. Well, this time finally came.

Skylar is a beautiful young woman who loves her family, and she is especially attached to her grandmother. She helps with the family business, but also has big dreams — she wants to do something for herself and study at university. A chance of fate meets her with the town's mayor. He is in desperate need of a nanny and seeing Skyler interacting with his daughter, he hires her on the spot.

Rhett is a single dad to an adorable little girl, but his job is connected with a lot of responsibility, and he doesn't have the proper time to take care of his daughter. Hiring Skylar was obviously a great decision, but he still can't help himself being attracted to her. But one thing is certain, the pull is strong and mutual. At one point, they couldn't help themselves to finally be together. I could definitely see their feelings.

The love scenes were hot and spicy. We didn't have lots of them, but the smut was passionate enough for me 🌶️.

I liked Skylar's family, but at one point they were trying to be controlling of her. I understand where they came from, but I still wished them to be more supportive of her choices. Also, when the drama happened, I still think that Rhett should have done more groveling, because, after all, he left her for a bit to deal with the consequences and the town gossip.

Overall, I enjoyed reading Skylar and Rhett's love story ♥️.

Not nearly what I expected after viewing both the cover and the book blurb. I didn't love or hate this Thanksgiving-Christmas themed story. Small town, large Irish/Italian mixed family interactions. A 15-year age gap between the alpha-mayor, the father to an adorable four-year old who steals the show, and the much younger nanny in a slow-to-take-off-romance. I loved Nonna, too. She spoke truth to power while taking care of a brood of grandkiddos and fed an army every Sunday and all the holidays. The storyline was pretty blah and didn't have much depth -- but the possibilities were there, if only . . .

A little too much at times and not enough at other times, Christmas in Jasper Falls had the holiday spirit, some interesting characters and a grinch or two along the way. I wasn't ho-ho-ho-ing at the end, but I wasn't bah-humbugging either! I'll call it a draw!

4.5 star Review Pining For You (Jasper Falls #4) by Lydia Michaels

Although this was my first book by Lydia Michaels it will not be my last. I haven’t read any of the books in the Jasper Falls series but I had no trouble reading this as a stand alone. I love stories set in small towns and as this is a holiday romance as well as a single parent story I was ready to dive in.

This is Skylar Marcelli and Rhett Buchanan’s story, add in Rhett’s daughter Addison and I was all in. This was a well written, entertaining story that was well written and heart warming. The relationship that Rhett has with his daughter was beautiful to read.

As mayor of Jasper Falls, Rhett needs a nanny which is how Skylar comes to live in. What neither of them expect is the intense and electric connection that sizzles between them. This was an entertaining story that ticked the boxes for me.

Lydia Michaels really needs to work on her pacing. She's a talented writer and the sexual tension in this was divine but omg she waterlogs her stories with endless filler nonsense that's not needed. She stuffs her books with so much mundane information and/or secondary characters that the romance completely gets overshadowed, flushed out and rushed through to the very end with a bunch of loose ends barely tied up. Like the heroine not finding out about the hero's tragic backstory until the very end of the book when he proposes to her....seriously? And the crazy bitchy PA Erin not getting exposed/fired on the page after all the shit she did to the heroine Skylar and nearly hitting the hero's little girl was crazy. The heroine's lack of agency was absurd and just plain stupid. You're the nanny and you don't think it's important to tell your boss right away that his assistant almost hit his daughter?! O_o It made no sense how Skylar kept putting off telling the hero about his assistant especially after that incident. Her lack of agency and urgency was so distracting and made her such a doormat. All the "it's nothing" and "I'll tell you later" brushing off she did drove me insane and made no sense. This author is really bad at tying up loose ends, she did the same thing in Hurt and it's incredibly frustrating. Your readers want to see payoff and follow through ON THE PAGE. Not dusty scenes about the heroine's Gran and Pops babysitting 20 grandchildren or her overbearing family bickering. When you have bad characters do bad things to the h/hr then retribution of some kind is expected and earned. Also, that cover? So misleading. This is a fluffy cozy Christmas story with more time spent on family drama rather than sexy times and romance. There's literally just 1 full sex scene and the hero eating her out that's it. They are together for a total of a few days before drama implodes and the heroine takes her sweet time dragging her feet in deciding to make up with the hero (which is another pet peeve of mine). It almost felt like Contemporary Fiction/Chick Lit than true CR at times.

I loved Pining for You by Lydia Michaels; a love at first sight love story. It is the fourth book in her Jasper Falls series. Lydia Michaels continues to show that she is an amazing storyteller. I could not put Pining for You down and I loved every moment on every page. Who doesn't love hot sexy men, strong females, loving big Irish and Italian families, who always have each other’s backs? I really enjoy how the book is told from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. Pining for You is a love story filled with heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. I love the lighter moments where I find myself smiling and laughing out loud. My favorite moments are the ones that pull at my heartstrings that cause me to sigh, as I read the heartbreaking moments. Pining for You is filled with such moments, and with so much emotion. It is filled with all those things that we have come to love and expect in a love story, Lydia Michaels truly did not disappoint, especially with the poignant and bittersweet moments that filled this page turner. Pining for You is the story of Rhett Buchanan, mayor of Jasper Falls and Skylar Marcelli, newly hired nanny to Rhett’s daughter, Addison. Rhett and Skylar meet when Skylar helps Addy rescue her balloon and then returns her to her father. When Skylar informs him that her dream job is to open her own pre-school, he offers a paid position to be Addy’s nanny for the next two years, until she is ready to start school. Skylar will soon complete her Associates degree and the money she will make as Addy’s nanny will help with tuition towards her Bachelor’s degree. Skylar and Rhett begin to spend time together things change between them, despite their fifteen-year age difference. Conversation between them flows so easily, I love that Rhett shares secrets about his past, his childhood and his relationship with Addy’s mother with Sky something that he had not shared with anyone before. I love the unexpected plot twist that changes things between them and the Christmas surprise that reunites them. I loved that Pining for You is a more than just a romance, there are dilemmas that both Skylar and Rhett are facing that need to be resolved, Rhett needs to learn how to accept and to show love. I love the changes that take place in Rhett’s life because of the love of the right woman, regardless of her age. I love how the storylines get so beautifully resolved. I love all the chances that Skylar was willing to make in her own life to have a life with Rhett, and the changes Rhett made to have a life with Skylar. I love the conversation that Rhett has with Sky’s grandfather, Vincenzo and the concession he was willing to make to get his help. I also loved the conversations that Sky had with both her Grandma Maureen and her Uncle Collin, and how Skylar’s view about married love changes by watching her grandparents’ interactions. I love the ending and how the epilogue went above and beyond the happily ever after. Pining for You is filled with poignant and bittersweet moments as well as plot twists. I love the characters and the family dynamic in Pining for You, the characters feel like family and friends. I enjoyed all the interactions between the characters especially their teasing that made me laugh. I loved all the characters in Pining for You, and I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series, as well as books in Lydia Michaels’s McCullough Mountain series, so I can catch up with the other characters in the book. Who doesn’t love family and friends that always have each other’s backs? I thoroughly enjoyed Pining for You, who doesn’t love a holiday inspired love at first sight love story. Highly recommend this love story and am so looking forward to reading the other books in the series.

Skylar feels lost in her loud but loving family. She's been going to community college and now has the chance to further her education. Then she runs into the cutest little girl, and her dad, the mayor of her small town. Taking the job as live-in nanny should be just the thing to get her out of her family's overwhelming clutches and into a new path. But what happens when she can't help but not only fall in love with her new charge, but her father, too?

Age gap stories can be a bit much for my tastes, but when they're done with subtlety and heart like Pining for You, then I'm all in. Rhett and Skylar are sweet together, with loads of chemistry, and with the cutest little girl to add to that heart. This is a sweet holiday read, just the thing to get you ready for the holidays fast approaching.

It's Christmas in Jasper Falls. Rhett Buchanan has revitalized the town since becoming mayor, but has trouble keeping a nanny for his daughter, Addison. When he meets and hires Skylar Marcelli, he thinks that's about to change. Skylar is thrilled to move out of her childhood home and get a job in the field she loves. But there's a connection between the two of of them they can't deny, and they soon become the center of small town gossip at its worst.

I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest, unbiased review. I've really enjoyed this series and this book was no exception. The story was hard for me to get into at first, but I was very glad that I stuck with it because ultimately it was a fabulous read. I loved the energy of Rhett and Skylar's relationship as well as the relationship each had with Addison. The characters were wonderful and small town life was perfectly captured. I really liked coming back to Jasper Falls and sincerely hope that there's more to come from this series. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order for the most enjoyment.

An unexpected job offer to work as a nanny for the most eligible bachelor in Jasper Falls, leads to an unforgettable Christmas full of drama, mistletoe, wannabe mob bosses, and mayhem!

Rhett Buchanan has single-handedly revitalized Jasper Falls since taking office as mayor. This handsome, single dad appears to be the picture-perfect man, but beneath all that small-town charm, he’s hiding a dark past.

Skylar Marcelli is relieved to move out of her overcrowded, childhood home and into the mayor’s mansion as a live-in-nanny, but her boss is sexy to the point of distraction, and his high expectations leave her eager to please...

The holiday rush slides into a holiday crush, when cold winter nights heat up with sexual tension, an explosion of passion, and an unforgettable Christmas punch that lands Skylar on the Naughty List and at the center of a Jasper Falls scandal.

♥ If you love big family chaos, warm holiday traditions, and age-gap romance, you will love PINING FOR YOU! ♥

Loved Rhett and Skylar's story. Their story was beautifully written and heartfelt. Skylar was such a natural with Addison, she was the sweetest little girl. I loved Skylar's big overbearing protective family. Lots of LOL moment's throughout this book. Loved every page.

What another amazing book based in Jasper Falls - boy do I wanna live there, and be part of the wonderful McCullough family.

This time the book is about eldest granddaughter, Skylar - she has always been dependable to her family - anything they needed, she was there. With there being so many children in her immediate family, and her Dad struggling to get a grant for his work, she never rocked the boat when it came to her aspirations - she would find a way to get what she wanted, and what she dreamed for in her future.

While out for a drive - she happens upon a little girl, who seems to doing her own thing - she is young, and Skylar is intrigued. She befriends the little girl, and through some shown kindness, Skylar earns her friendship as a reward; she then meets Addison's father, Rhett, an important man about town.

After meeting Rhett Buchanan, and befriending little Addy, Skylar's life is never the same again.

Pining for You is amazing. I love being back in Jasper Falls. I never want to leave this small town. You are just going to love this one. There are so many laugh out loud, sweet and adorable moments. You are going to fall in love with little Addy along with her single father Rhett. Rhett does everything he can to juggle fatherhood and being mayor of Jasper falls. I just love his instant connection he has with Skylar. Skylar may seem young and innocent but she is wise beyond her years. You are going to love her big crazy family and everything that goes along with it. I just love how sweet Skylar is with Addy. Rhett and Skylar will steal your heart as they grow closer. You will love how strong Skylar is when it comes to standing up to her family and showing them she is not a little girl anymore. I could not get enough of this one. You need to one click this one.

I love reading this Jasper Falls series! I feel as if I know the characters. Lydia Michaels makes them seem real and like we, the readers, are a part of this family. Rhett and Skylar are such a perfect pair. Rhett adores his daughter, Addison, and Skylar loves witnessing the connection between them. Skylar may just be the nanny, but her feelings for Rhett are more than just as boss and employee. But does Rhett feel the same? Will Skylar's meddlesome family approve? I loved this book and couldn't put it down! I can't wait for more from Jasper Falls!

ARC REVIEW

A cute Christmas romance story.

Skylar is given a job of a nanny to the mayor’s daughter Addison. She’s also not immune to the mayor’s Rhett charm and he’s not too. They both know they can’t be together because not only he’s a mayor. Yet this thing won’t stop what fate has in plans for them.

It was a good story. The one that can wake up the Christmas vibe in you (even though it’s barely October now). It had a lot of cute and adorable scenes yet it also didn’t lack in plot twists and dramas.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Rhett is the Mayor of Jasper Falls and needs a nanny for his adorable daughter Addy. Skylar has a big Dysfunctional family that she loves and adores. When she takes the job as Rhett’s nanny she falls for in love with both him and his daughter. With him comes a moody assistant and a town full of gossip. Let’s not forget her family doesn’t think this is a good idea. This is a really cute quick read. It’s funny, fast paced and entertaining. Not to mention perfect if you are looking for a quick holiday read!

This is my review for the Audiobook.

Skylar Marcelli is one of the eldest grand child the Marcelli family in Jasper Fall which is a small town, Where the town knows of them as a loud ruckus group. Just about finishing her Associates degree in early child care development, she is offered to take a class for her bachelors. Though she can only take one class at a time due to finances she is more the accommodating one. Where as her siblings are off doing their schooling. Not wanting to put added pressure to her parents she keeps the schools finance hushed. But on her way home she sees a little girl by herself trying to get a balloon. She meets Addison a cute 4 year old, then meets her dad who happens to be the new town Mayor. Needing a new nanny quickly because he is coming up on a new campaign, Rhett Buchanan is quickly attracted to the young woman who found his daughter wandering and brought her back to him. To earn more funds for school and this new arrangement would only be until Addison entered Kindergarden. As the days goes by they secretly pine for one another. Rhett has his own reasons to put walls from his feelings. Will Skylar accept this? Or will she seek reassurances to vocalize her feelings all the time? Or will she seek guidance from her Nan the head of the family besides her grandfather. This is a cheer romance a bit on the cheesy side for me, but over all ok.

Nanny romance is iffy for me in general. It’s not just about the age gap nor is it necessarily about the boss/employee factor, as each of those tropes have been in some well liked books. So while I’m careful which ones I’ll give a try, some a good and some aren’t so great.
I enjoyed this one because I enjoyed Skylar so much. At 21, she’s actually much more mature than her very large family. In fact, as the oldest female grandchild, she’s helped raise most of her younger siblings and cousins. Her reasons for taking the job to nanny the mayor’s daughter are to help her achieve her dreams and aren’t because of any attraction to Rhett.
Of course, that comes later for them both. Rhett is a dedicated father, which at times is hard to balance with running Jasper Falls. His daughter Addison is smitten with Skylar just like her dad. I love the interactions between them all. I even loved the loud, obnoxious family and the villainous assistant. Okay, I didn’t love her, but she added interest to the story.
I thought this was a solid story with great characters, made even more charming with its Christmas setting.

Pining for You by Lydia Michaels is quite a steamy small town, age gap, employer/employee romance, and it was the perfect book to finish my holiday reading this year. I had not read any other books by Ms. Michaels, but will put her name on my list of requests when I am in the mood for a good spicy romance.

I liked the extended family and the author's description of the family dinner that begins the book. It gave me a homey feeling, and I empathized with Skylar from the very beginning. Rhett was described as very good looking, and who doesn't love a hard-working single dad--I certainly fell for him almost immediately.

Unpredictable, this book is not...it was not hard to figure out exactly what was going to take place, but the journey was certainly a fun read.

Thank you to Netgalley and Valentine PR and Literary Managment for the digital copy of Pining for You. The opinions in this review are my own.

Holiday read, small town, single dad, age gap, taboo-ish (she's the nanny, he's the mayor and her boss).

This is a new author to me. And it was a good, but I felt like it was missing a little something for me that would have made it great.

I loved Skylar's big, loud, overprotective family so much. I come from a large familys I could just feel the vibe of the family gatherings. I enjoyed the holiday touches. Addison was adorable. Skylar was sweet, if not perhaps a bit naive. Rhett was a grump at first, but I did enjoy finally learning his backstory and seeing him open up. And Erin was the character you love to hate.

I can't even put my finger on what more I wanted exactly. But it was a cute holiday story and I would definitely read more from this author.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Valentine PR for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The book is a wonderful, sweet and romantic Christmas story. I haven't read Lydia Michaels yet and just loved this book. Sky is a young woman who is totatlly devoted to her family and has given up a lot to help her parents with her siblings and the family in a whole. She wants to go to college and needs money to pay for the tuition. An opportunity appers when the city mayor Rhett invites her to be the new nanny for his adorable daughter. It is an opportunity that she cannot miss and is happy to start right away. However, Rhett is sexy, older with a difficult past and she is strongly attracted to him. He is also smitten by this adorable woman and her upfront and happy way of dealing with life. It is a difficult relationship more because of her meddling family and the city gossip.
The book is great, well written and has good characters.
I just loved it!

Thank you Netgalley and Valentine PR Literary Management for sending me an ARC of this book in exchange of an honest review.

Pining for you is a book I very much enjoyed in everything. I liked the plot, the spice, the love story, the characters and its semplicity because I pretty much devoured it. There was that familiarity and christmas air that was really comforting. There is the age gap (that doesn’t weigh too much) and a background story and single-dad trope and old couples showing love (I mean who doesn’t melt to this).
I really recommend this if you’re looking for something quite short and cute and about christmas period.
It can absolutely be read as a standalone, I barely noticed it was a series.
It’s 4,5⭐️ for me.

Pining For You by Lydia Michaels is book 4 in the Jasper Falls Series. This is the story of Skylar Marcelli and Rhett Buchanan. This was a standalone book for me. Skylar lives with her big crazy family but when she gets the job as the Nanny to the Mayor of Jasper Falls daughter she excited because this is a live in job. Rhett has to focus on his work so a nanny is needed for his daughter Addison 'Addy' which is how he meets Skylar. Their attraction is immediate but of course the path to happiness isn't a easy one but maybe a crazy one for sure. Enjoyed.

Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book for an honest review.

I love Lydia Michaels books!! This is the first I've read in this series and I love getting back into the crazy McCullough family dynamics and seeing a new generation. Skylar is the perfect child in everyone's eyes... no-one, apart from Rhett, sees her as the capable adult that she is! Only disappointing part of this story is Colin. As much as I disliked Erin, I am keen to read her story.

Normally I love a good age gap romance but this fell short for me, which I am sad to say... Because up until this book, I have loved each book by Lydia Michaels that I have read, but this was missing something. I didn't feel that connection between Rhett and Skylar.

However, the writing style was good, as are all Lydia's books.

I absolutely loved this.
It was a cute, quick read with a little bit of “forbidden” mixed in.
Single dad + nanny = a hot read.
Mix in a little Christmas spirit and this is the result.

Finally Rhett’s story is here! It was worth the wait. I absolutely adored Skylar & Rhett’s story.

My favorite part was definitely the banter between Skylar & Rhett. And Rhett’s daughter Addison was adorable!

I look forward to more by Lydia Michaels stories in the future.

I voluntarily reviewed this book.

Amazing! I've volunteered to review this for United Indie Book Blog. This author is new to me. Pining For You is the fourth book in this series, This is Rhett and Skylar's story. Rhett is the mayor of this new revitalized Jasper Falls. Skylar has moved into the mayor’s mansion as a live-in-nanny. And her new boss is sexy as sin too. Their attraction is immediate but of course the path to happiness isn't an easy one. Heartwarming, charming, and the snarky banter had made me keep turning each page until the end. Definitely going back to read more from this series. If you love to read about age gap romance, single dad then this is the perfect book for you. It's a MUST READ!!! You will absolutely fall in love with them, just like me. You will not be disappointed with this book. Keep up the amazing work!
