On the abysmal fringes of sanity itself lies a repository of tales from realms untold. The Weird Tales of Monsters, Magic and Machines holds secrets of far flung galaxies, haunted dimensions and fantastical heroes. Inspired by the works of HP Lovecraft and Robert E Howard, this compilation of short stories takes a reader through all things strange and exhilarating. 15 stories written by lifelong enthusiasts of the sci-fi, fantasy and horror genres The Bizarchives is an unapologetic homage to the golden era of pulp fiction. If you love Conan, Cthulhu and everything in between you won't want to miss this.
Dude that runs this company flagged me down at the gas station a few months ago and convinced me to buy these books haha. At first I thought he was selling drugs. Turns out he just hustles books lmao
I bought the first one just because it was a funny situation. I ended up reading the whole thing and ended up buying the other two. These books are really neat. There's some blood and guts, futuristic and medieval type stories and some really creepy horror ones.
I'm not much of a reader so some stuff wasn't my style. Some of the stories are so-so imo but others blew my mind.
And the art is freakin DOPE
This book in particular is probably 4 stars but imma give it 5 because these guys love it so much they sell copies out of the trunk of their SUVs. Respect.
Pulp-fiction done right. Excellent mix of horror and science-fiction in the vein of the early 20th century masters of the genre. Just what the world needs right now and I'm looking forward to the next installment! Highly recommended!
Incredibly low effort and not worth the $10. I almost bought a copy for a family member as well and after reading this volume, was really glad I did not.
Most of the stories are completely terrible. The one redeeming story was about a witch in the Appalachian mountains, but there were no others that even remotely approached the quality of that one story. A couple others started out promising but quickly became tired and/or juvenile.
Quality over quantity should be the top priority for the first volume of a series, because as of right now you couldn't pay me to peruse any of the subsequent volumes of "The Bizarchives".
I loved all the stories in this book, were there minor mistakes and nuanced errors? A few for sure. But none of them detracted from the stories as a whole that are crammed inside.
The genres within are varied and have enough scope for all but the most narrow-minded of scolds. People like that are often lacking in passionate books due to the avalanche of mediocrity in recent times.
Not so with this collection of original and pioneering works. I easily found myself envisioning danger, intrigue and adventure from writers who would normally never have a voice to be heard.
A bold and brilliant step in restoring pulp-fiction back into the minds of the people!
The stories here are a good dose of pulp, well-written, and lots of fun. I would recommend the paperback edition to fans of pulp adventure stories. However, the formatting on the Kindle edition is a bit of a mess and could have used some thoughtful proofreading and editing.
Good stories, but very poorly edited. There are glaring mistakes in almost every story, and the ones with the least mistakes are more likely than not down to the writers not making them. A standout in terms of quality is Jim Bonner.
