"Mike Ryan creates a vivid and indelible character in Michael Recker. The Silencer Series builds in tension and momentum throughout, each book taking the reader deeper into Recker's mind as he goes rogue, saving the city from the criminal underworld."--- Brian Hutchison, Film/TV/Broadway Actor & Award-Winning Narrator This set contains the first four books in The Silencer Series, The Silencer Fully Loaded Hard Target Blowback The CIA Black Ops agent John Smith is on his latest assignment in London. His flight is strangely diverted to Philadelphia where he meets a mysterious stranger who knows all about his past and recruits him for a job. Needing a new identity, Smith becomes Michael Recker. He then tries to prevent bad things happening to innocent people while also interacting with the city's different crime factions. All the while, Recker plans his revenge on the mysterious Agent 17, who committed an act so heinous that Recker will never forget it. Fully After being ambushed, Recker goes missing for several days and is presumed dead. Once he returns, he seeks retribution on the men responsible and turns to an unlikely source to help him get his revenge. As he embarks on his plot for revenge, he must not only carefully navigate around Mia's growing feelings for him, but also his own feelings for her. While still not forgetting his main goal of helping the innocent, Recker also further cements his relationship with Tyrell by helping him with a family problem. Though he still keeps Mia at a distance, they can't help but become closer as Recker investigates the disappearance of one of her closest friends. As Recker embarks on his deadly rampage, Jones worries about The Silencer's growing reputation amongst the public and government agencies. Hard Recker finally reaches his boiling point and confronts Jones about his lack of progress in finding Agent 17. The professor, feeling guilty about not locating him, admits to a secret he's been hiding. As Recker is trying to find Agent 17, Mia launches her own investigation into her friend's death, frustrated that the killer still hasn't been brought to justice. After the circumstances of Agent 17's death, the CIA turns to a specialist to help track down the man they think is responsible--John Smith. Though Recker knows Centurion is coming, he doesn't change how he operates and winds up on police surveillance cameras. Feeling the walls closing in, Jones wants to pack up and move to a new city, though Recker has reservations about leaving. It all boils down to a final confrontation between Recker and his former employers--one he may not survive.

I truly enjoyed this series, which I read one after another, you know that you love a series if you are sorry when you read the last of the bundle. Enjoyable, interesting, engaging and well narrated (and written) by the author.
11/2/2021 - Finished listening to the box set. See individual books for full reviews. (Later reviews have spoilers to earlier books, so I don’t want to include them all here.)
This is best enjoyed by someone looking for shorter, episodic books with some arcs running across multiple books. Has a feel very similar to The Equalizer TV show/movies.
Great deal as a box set.
I enjoyed Brian Hutchinson’s narration.
2/10/2021 - This is on my TBL for this month. ebook is on sale 99¢ on Kobo (yeah, I know I already own the audio - but I like to read along sometimes and for 99¢, why not)
Is this author a robot? Because he doesn't seem to know how actual humans talk. Seriously, this book has some of the worst dialogue I've ever seen. And a lot of the other prose is awkward, too. It feels like it's in third person limited perspective, but then sometimes the perspective changes for 2 sentences. It's very jarring.
I read the first four books of the Silencer series. I doubt that I will read the rest. I prefer my antihero characters to be mentally solid. No waffling, no whining. No falling in love with the first woman he runs into. While the premise was good, I liked the computer geek way more than the killer. Not the way it's supposed to be.
Hire a new editor ASAP. I could not believe the rookie mistakes and grammatical errors in these books. I'm temped to buy a physical copy of the book edit it with a red pen and mail it to the author. Words are repeated constantly and unnecessarily. I will cut the author some slack because he started this series just a few years ago and is on the 16th book now- clearly he is just cranking out text and not reading through it. HOWEVER- his editor needs to be fired for not catching this stuff. Also, if you know anything about firearms these stories will just irritate you. At one point in a story the bad guys are hiding behind a card table they flipped over and the main character is thinking about how he has to wait for one of them to peek out so he can shoot them... because apparently this ex-CIA operative isn't aware that bullets can penetrate a card table. The story is far fetched in a lot of ways- but it is fiction so you go with it to a point. Honestly, it just seems like the author didn't do his research and is writing what will sound cool, rather than writing anything near reality... and then publishing it without re-reading it first. (heavy sigh) Not going to bother continuing to read this series
Michael Recker, David Jones and Mia Hendricks Are An Entertaining Trio
This box set contains a series of four stories that are suspenseful, entertaining, tense and thrilling all at once. Michael is a CIA agent who had been marked for elimination. He just wanted out. But the agents sent to kill him weren't as good at their jobs as he. Mike disappeared; no one could find him. But David Jones, an ex-NSA agent did, and they set up shop to thwart crimes against regular folks that law enforcement agencies couldn't or wouldn't touch. The series tracks many of them and also the development of personal relationship between Mike and Mia, a nurse who is a benefactor of one of Mike's early "rescues". The title is also the name given early on to Michael's character in the first book that just seems to happen more by chance than by plan.
If you enjoyed the tv show "Person of Interest" as I did, then you will enjoy this box set as the scenario is pretty much identical - a tough-guy hero saving innocent victims of crime with the aid of a computer genius who foretells the incidents through on-line hacking. The characters are believable, and the stories are well told, so it is a good read - not overly exciting, but enough to keep you reading till the end and possibly wanting to read more of the series.
Although a bit formulaic I did come to like the contrasting characters. The "honor of gangsters" seems a bit farfetched, but what would I know? I do wish that Mike might sometimes find a way to intervene using less extreme measures, but then I suppose he would be a different character.
This set of books has a great deal of action. It begins with the attempted killing of John Smith in London and his association with David Jones. Each of the books provide cases that the two handle in trying to make the city where they are located. In the 1st book, Mia is introduced who plays a major role in the other stories.
To discover what tasks are being handled, then you must read this book.
I really enjoyed the premises of these stories. The characters are interesting. My only complaint was that since it was stories in one collection there was alto of reposition on some of the story lines. Will definitely consider reading the next collection.
Well I pick up this four pack on a whim thanks to Facebook.. and I’m not all for it the action is very limited the stories seem to go on and on but you don’t learn much new about any of the characters. It all feels just sort of bland and there. The formula is predicted and everything from characters to story falls flat
This series reminds me of the "Death Wish" series with Charles Bronson. I enjoyed the first 1-4 of the Silencer although to me it was just one book not 4 of them. I doubt I will buy any more in this series as I think the writer has written themselves into a corner. Another 4 books and just about everyone in Philly would be dead.
As I didn't finish this entire four-book set, I reviewed the first book here, since I did manage to slog my way through The Silencer. I woke up early this morning and came to my senses about finishing the rest.
I only read the first 120 pages but found it to be so poorly written I couldn't go on. The characters and story line were so childish and implausible. I bought the 4 book series but I've had enough.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this for-book series. It was always difficult to put down. While writing this review I'm in a hurry to ge, and read books 5-8. Waiting to learn what happens next.
This is a fun book and similar to the series person of interest. The 2leads are a good pair but the female lead is super annoying. So annoying that I almost gave mid story. I bought first 4 so hopefully she plays a smaller role going forward.
Once known as John Smith in a CIA black ops , an attempt on his life has him on the run. Somehow he is found by very s killed computer hacker who calls himself David Jones. Together they do all they can to protect the innocent.
I got these books from Chirp just for fun, and they kind were. They are not literature! Nowhere near it. But are kind of fun and fast moving. 3 stars are generous, but as I said, they’re kind of fun.
The writing style is what a high school teacher would be grading. Not realistic. Sort of a forced nature to it. I would suggest reading some Tanner novels, or anything from Tom Clancy.
