Emma always thought her best friend just didn't want love in her life. But when a guy from her past comes walking back into their little town, she realizes the her best friend never got over her first love.
Only, he's not the same shy guy from high school. He's a vampire. And he's in trouble.
As the ladies band together to solve a new mystery, Emma's connection to Mystic Hollow grow stronger through her tough bear shifter, but the secrets they uncover just might leave one of the ladies with a broken heart.

I don’t think I have the right words to express how much I love this world that the authors have created. If the female of the species is commonly considered the most deadly, and the most feared creature on the planet is a mother, then couple that with age and experience and you’ve got an epically kick-butt posse of supernaturals with Karma and her crew. I love seeing all these new discoveries through Emma’s eyes. I can’t say I’d react very differently than her. And all the True Love that fills this book makes me positively giddy. There’s a sharp twist at the end that has me perched on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what’s going to happen next. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Booksprout.
This series is a lot of fun! Emma has inherited Karma's powers. Emma has settled in Mystic Hollow, a town filled with vampires, witches , sirens, and other various supernatural creatures. Emma has several friends that are witches and she and friends help to solve detective cases. This time, Emma is asked to help solve the murder of a vampire who ran one of the covens ( groups). He was not liked and started turning young men who were too young to know what they were getting into. At the same time, Carol's first love, Bryan, returns unexpectedly and explains his disappearance to Carol and her friends. He was turned into a vampire against his will and the guy who did it turns up dead. Meanwhile, Emma has a romantic interest with Daniel, who is a bear shifter. Lots of adventures and action!
I'm really enjoying this series. Freezing right through it. Cause I can't seem to put the books down. And instead of finishing the book and starting a new one the next day. I just haven't slept all night. And kept on trucking. If you want a read that is engaging enough to make you read 6 books in 2 days. But doesn't total emotionally make you feel raw and not sure how your going to recover. Pick this series up.
Really enjoyed this action packed, fun and emotionally thrilling journey filled with witty and engaging charters, heart racing twists and exciting turns. Emotionally thrilling roller coaster adventure from beginning to end and so hard to put down.
This is book five of the Magical Midlife in Mystic Hollow series and the main characters are Emma, the new Karma, and her boyfriend Daniel, a bear shifter and detective. One of Emma’s best friends, witch Carol, has always seemed to have given up on love, but in reality she had never forgotten her high school sweetheart Bryan. He turns up at Emma’s door asking for Karma’s help and also warning her that too many people now know about her new role and she will be in danger because of this. He asks her to kill his maker Quillan, the head of Clan Dusk, one of three vampire covens in Mystic Hollow and the vampire who turned him as soon as he turned eighteen. Quillan has a questionable history of turning young teens, perhaps against their free will, which is against normal vampire rule. Emma of course refuses to carry this out, trying to explain that Karma doesn’t work like that. He leaves, saying that if she can’t kill him, that maybe he will do it himself! She and her other friends Deva and Beth are worried about Carol and how she will take the news of her former boyfriend returning to town. He isn’t the same shy guy Carol loved when in high school, as he is now a vampire and has been for some years now, but is also in trouble himself. Part of that trouble made him leave town to start and not return, but he claims he was turned without his permission and only the help of another vampire, helped him to deal with the new life he was left with. When Quillan turns up dead the next day, on the beach near Emma’s home, Daniel asks her to come to the crime scene, but they find it already full of vampires and a vampire detective called Vance, who helps deal with supernatural crimes in the town. Daniel and Vance are ancient enemies, simply from being what they are and Daniel doesn’t like how much attention Vance plays Emma. He seems to know a lot about Emma and calls her Karma instead, obviously liking her position and new powers and something to covert for himself! This is just after Emma and Daniel finally took their relationship to another level and slept together at long last. But to Vance, a bear shifter is insignificant and isn’t worthy of being the partner of someone like Karma! He asks for her help as Karma, to sound out other vampires who could be possible suspects in the killing, with her magic. Daniel doesn’t like how he goes about it, asking Emma to pretend to be his date for the evening! Emma is worried that Bryan could be a prime suspect for the killing and since he has met up with Carol already, she and her friends have to tread carefully. Carol has fallen completely for her former love and would be devastated if he turns out to be the killer. Before they can really get far in trying to find out who the killer is, Carol and Bryan are chased by a horde of vampires and Bryan sacrifices himself to allow Carol to get away. Someone has taken him and they have no news of whether he is alive or dead, nor who took him. Mostly, vampires deal with any issues amongst them, by themselves and don’t involve others. But Vance wants to take advantage of Karma’s magic and is also keen to persuade her to be with him rather than Daniel, putting her back up. There are representatives from all three clans at the dinner he invited her to, but the main suspects are the possible new leaders of Clan Dusk. There is some discontent in the clan with little money available due to Quillan’s rule and a lot of young and very strong men, turned before they were really mature enough and tempted to be turned by him. Emma has trouble with one of the four main suspects from that clan, as she cannot get a read on her at all, which is very strange and has never happened to her before. Others of the four, want to carry on Quillan’s rather sick methods of running the clan and have strong positions and voices within the clan to force their new rule. Emma gets to learn a lot more about vampires in this one, maybe a little bit too much at one point, and this also causes her problems with Daniel, as his bear finds it almost impossible not to claim Emma and he hates the way Vance moons over her. Emma has no real idea how her Karma powers work, unlike her witch friends who have had their powers all of their lives. She does however, trust her new magic to keep her and her friends safe, even if somewhat injured or left in a right state sometimes, as she and Beth run their business, mostly with requests for Karma really. Emma has to reassure Daniel that she only wants him and isn’t interested one iota in Vance, even with all his money and power. Her bear shifter is all she needs and wants! I loved how her Karmic powers worked to apprehend and hold the guilty parties and even the others in the clan, until they could prove their good intentions! But her success now comes with a severe warning of others coming for her and wanting her powers! What will happen next and if she can keep her new found Karma powers is unclear and left for the next book in the series, so I shall have to wait to read it. I loved how Emma managed to reassure Daniel of her love, but also how protective he was of her, especially round Vance and other vampires. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Poor Daniel, about to make his move on the couch with Emma when a knock on the door at 11 p.m. interrupted them. A vampire named Bryan, Carol’s ex-boyfriend, was at the door and needed Karma’s help, he said. Daniel apparently knew him and angrily demanded why he was here. As Bryan began to step in at Emma’s invitation, he suddenly stopped and looked behind himself. Daniel said another vampire was out there, then Bryan disappeared. The other vampire apparently followed Bryan when he ran. Three weeks later, he still hadn’t come back.
Then as she was leaving Beth’s house, she walked right into him. He was back to warn her again that all the supernaturals had heard about her and would start coming to Mystic Hollow. She needed to keep a lower profile, he said. They are saying she is using her powers with far more abandon than the previous karma. And he sounded afraid. Then he told her what he needed from her. He wanted her to kill someone for him -- Quillan Laire, the vampire who turned him! He was turning young people without their consent to make his coven the biggest and most powerful. And the vampire police didn’t believe him. But when Emma said she would investigate but not just kill him outright, Bryan got upset and said he would do it himself then to protect other unwilling victims. Then he ran into the woods.
When Quillan Laire is murdered, the vampire police invite Emma to help. With Bryan as a suspect, the ladies are working to clear him. Will they find the real murderer? Will Bryan stay with Carol? And how will Emma deal with Alice’s terrified prophetic announcement… “Emma,” she finally whispered. “They’re coming for your powers!”

KARMA'S STAKE is the sixth book in the Magical Midlife in Mystic Hollow series. Though each does stand on its own, for maximum enjoyment and understanding read them all and in the order of release.
This story is full of adventure, fashion, true love, and feminine giggles. Plus, one possessive, growly, handsome bear shifter. I loved it.
Beth, Carol, Deva, and Emma (Karma) are powerful witches individually, but now that they have reunited in Mystic Hollow, they are becoming an unstoppable combination. These women are the type that have each other’s backs no matter what, and they have magic… strong magic… to back them up.
This series is wonderful. There hasn’t been a bad story in the bunch, and it just keeps moving along with a stick-to-my-seat fascination. I even loved the cliffhanger – a portend of what is to come in future books.
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC via BookSprout, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
Title: KARMA'S STAKE Series: Magical Midlife in Mystic Hollow #5 Category /Genre: Paranormal Romance Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content. Grammar/editing: received as an unedited ARC / errors excused. Received from: L.A. Boruff
When a hero from her past shows up with an important secret, things get really challenging for our heroine. But challenging is the new watch word for our heroines, so what's one more on top of the pile?
This is book five of the series. It does fine as a standalone. All the essential bits are covered early on.
This is a paranormal romance story with a group of mature heroines and a small town with unexpected magic. The story and characters are both well written and easy to read. Both the plot and the setting have a lot of secrets and watching the slow reveal is half the fun of the story. The setting and the characters all develop with each new book and it is always fun to see what new things crop up. Overall, this is another fun read and I look forward to seeing more adventures in the future.
Highly recommended.

Let me preface this with the following caveat. I have been reading a lot of Indie authors on KU because I believe that new authors are just as worthy as my tried and true ones. I really love it when I find one who makes me want to read their entire catalog of books. I have found some amazing ones and others who I stop at book 1. I've gotten this far, also far, shifters have changed from being able to shift fully clothed, to not. I just find that change annoying. It's almost as if the author changed her mind mid story. And not a thing about Vampires being able to walk around during the day. There are also numerous grammatical and punctuation errors that a professional editor would redline before publication. Are Indie authors just using their friends to edit instead of having it done professionally? I have found that the standards swing wildly depending on the author.
I’ve really enjoyed this series about Emma, who suddenly developed the power of karma in the first book of the series… most appropriately when her dastardly ex was trying to be a real SOB! Like most books in this series, this book explores themes of magic, murder, mystery, action, and romance. The story delves into Emma's powers and her involvement in a murder case. Vampires play a prominent role in this installment. This book, like the rest of the series, is entertaining and engaging. Each book builds on the overall storyline, and the characters develop a bit more in each book. FYI, I found some minor issues with tense consistency. I highly recommend this book, and this series, if you like paranormal romance combined with mystery and enjoy vampire stories—and I'm not a huge fan...and even I thought it was a good read.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
This was a great follow up book in the Magical Midlife in Mystic Hallows series. I really love all the characters - I ❤ Daniel and Emma together and I'm glad they finally took their relationship to the next level. I'm really happy for Carol and Bryan too... so sad what happened to him!! I gotta say every time I read another book in this series, I start to love Emma's brother Henry too... of course his gf too!!
This story is about solving the mystery of one of the vampire leaders murder. Ironically, it just happens to be the same vampire who turned Bryan against his will and the same vampire who Bryan threatened to kill. But did Bryan actually kill him or is there a murderer in Mystic Hallow?? Emma and friends team up with the vampire investigators to find out.
Oh Wow! This series is amazing. I love how we get to see more of Emma and Daniel as well as the drama that she and her friends are going through. The action and mystery throughout it just adds that extra element to the story. The story is extremely well written and developed. The mysteries just keep coming and boy do we see some new characters that even though they are not characters we have seen in the series before they sure are amazing. The ending in this one was a major cliffhanger that has me extremely excited fo the next book to see what is going to happen next. This is definitely a must read and doesn’t disappoint.. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Beth, Emma (the eponymous Karma), Carol, and Deva are back for another supernatural adventure in Mystic Hollow. Watch for changes in Point of View at new chapters. This time, a murdered vampire starts a 'who done it' investigation by the vampire police, who invite Emma to help. That night Emma and Daniel take their relationship to the next level. Emma attends a vampire formal affair to help the investigation, hoping she's not on the menu. Carol's true love is a chief suspect so the girls work to clear him. The investigation progresses to an exciting and surprising conclusion, followed by an equally shocking cliffhanger.
Another exciting adventure in this Mystic Hollow series with all of these strong and sassy women who try to solve this mystery, best friends forever are what all of these women are and they will kick butt to whoever hurts one of their friends and that’s what I love about them. Their age doesn’t mean anything when you have friends who will be by your side through all of the ups and downs. This is another fantastic addition to this series and I can’t wait to read more and I highly recommend this book/ series.
Emma and her close group of friends are on another mystery and Carol is seeing her old flame Bryan again. The characters get better and better with more history, feelings and dreams coming to the surface. The storyline has murder, betrayal, money stolen, people threatened, love renewed, interrogations, Karma and lots of vines, and much more. The ending was great but now more to watch out for as well on the horizon. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
For instance this sentence: "It made sense in my head, so why do I feel guilty? And a little like I'm thinking I can keep a lion as a pet." If the story is in past tense, why the present "do I feel" instead of "did I feel..." and "I'm thinking" instead of "I was thinking," "can" instead of "could." This book and book 4 seem like no one has been editing them for things like this. Otherwise, a fantastic story and I can't wait for the next one!
Emma (Karma) and her friends have the murder of a vampire to solve. The victim had some rather dubious practice when it came to making new vampires he was also a coven leader. Carol's first and only love has returned to Mystic Hollow and is one of the suspects. This is another great story from L.A. Boruff. I love this series and look forward to the next book,

Book five of the Magical Midlife in Mystic Hollow series, another great story in this series. I can not wait until the next book is out. Emma, Daniel and their friends will have a lot to overcome, trying to help Bryan a friend of Carol's in this book. The story is well written and well worth reading. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Karma's Stake is book five in the Magical Midlife in Mystic Hollow series. A vampire/ex-boyfriend in trouble, a new mystery to solve, and so much more happening making this an entertaining read. I am loving this series with the unique storylines, quirky characters, and a cliffhanger ending that left me wanting more. I can't wait to read the next book in this series to find out what happens next. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
Once again, our gang of witches and karma are up to their necks in trouble. Vampire trouble, and they are asked to find out who murdered one of their coven leaders. Between our witches, Daniel the bear shifter, and Karma, they will be sticking their powers into this mystery. Its fun, scary, and midlife affirming!!! Great reading, and now I have to wait again for the next book.
I've enjoyed this series a lot. I do find the inconsistencies distracting though. In one book, shifters are able to change and not lose their clothing. In this one, they disrobe and keep clothes nearby. In previous books, the female lead character had longer hair and said that her ex-husband had wanted her to keep it long. In this book, she has short hair. Nonetheless, this book was entertaining and such fun to read. I love the addition of the vampires to the story line.
It is lovely to see these "forty plus" women learning to see the joy in life and relax into their new realities. Self confidence and new beginnings here we come! Daniel the bear shifter come local law enforcement is turning out to be a pretty good boyfriend from where l stand and l am looking forward to the ribbing Emma will get from her girlfriends after that fight scene...read the book to learn more.
Karma is back and working fine for Emma and her friends. This time there is a vampire murder to solve and personal issues to be dealt with by the friends. Entertaining to read as usual as Emma gets dragged more into the vampire world to figure out what is going on. An old friend also shows up to complicate things. But I laughed and groaned and loved it as usual as Emma spreads Karma to all.
It is great to watch Emma be taken by surprise with Karma's powers, and for Karma to to it well. This is a wonderful magical midlife read that I feel is a great story. I think that they keep getting better which makes hanging around the cliff, waiting, easier. Loved It!

This book is part of a series and I recomend reading it to get the best out of this book. You get the background of the characters and their adventures before this story. I loved this story and cannot wait for the next one.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Brilliant read. Karma is once again hard at work. trying to defend those who are unable to defend themselves. but delving into the lives of the vampires is getting in the way of her relationship with Daniel. they are trying to start something but murder and mayhem is just getting in the way,. Brilliant read.
I loved reading this new story involving Carol and her HS sweetheart who is a vampire! The Mystic Hollow shenanigans continue with Karma and her friends. The love story is sweet. The mystery keeps you reading to find out what is happening now and how the ladies are going to solve it!. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
With older characters and significant amounts of sass and personality these women were so worth reading. I spent this whole book in love with these characters and wishing the book would never end. These authors have come together to make an amazing world. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
