Scarlett Fergusson’s life is anything but perfect. Working as a waitress in a small town, she lives with her addicted father, his girlfriend, and her toddler. Scarlett dreams of a better life. When wealthy Hugh Cruz sweeps her off her feet, she’s ready to believe that her life has turned around. And when Hugh proposes, her fairytale ending suddenly seems possible.
But Hugh isn’t the man she thinks he is. Cruel, controlling, and violent, he turns her fairytale into a nightmare. Scarlett can’t believe the woman she’s become. Just when things can’t get any worse for Scarlett, the unthinkable happens. Is it the end, or a new beginning?
Unbroken is the tale of a woman’s fight for survival, and her quest to discover her own strength.
There’s nothing more alluring than a billionaire romance and seduction, but author Kimberly Croft knocks us to the ground in this complex, layered, and emotional read. All her life Scarlett has wanted to escape Cutler, Maine. Leaving the Cutler Bay trailer park, her waitress job, and her struggles behind. Yet, when billionaire Hugh Cruz insists on a date with her, she can’t help but wonder why he’s so infatuated.
Moving quickly, she begins to fall seamlessly into his life. Jetting off to Paris and Miami, shopping sprees at Bloomingdale’s, and courtside seats next to Jay-Z. Scarlett finally has it all, but before the ink on the wedding license can even dry, it is clear she’s made a mistake. Secretly aching for her life back in Cutler once again, she prays she escapes this billionaire alive.
Croft sneaks up on all of us, showing us abuse doesn’t care what you look like, how much money you have, or what background you come from. Crafting a read that tackles domestic violence, abuse, and fear, “Unbroken” forces us to reevaluate our decisions, our desires, and the place we call home. Combining both the trailer park, drug addicted, broken family, with the world renowned, billionaire, jet-setting lifestyle, this read provides a powerful message nestled within its love story.
Scarlett is so easy to relate to, find fault in, or reassure ourselves it could never be us, and yet her story, her strength, and her courage provide a poignant reminder. Croft has penned a formidable romance, nestled amongst pain, loneliness, and suspense. “Unbroken” shatters genre stereotypes, offering a kaleidoscope of desire, longing and love.
the book was “meh” in my opinion. if you like watching Lifetime movies you would really enjoy this book. the writing was just not for me. it was REALLY repetitive. i didn’t need to read 101 times that Scarlett feared for her life… i think being in a physically and mentally abusive relationship with a controlling husband is pretty self explanatory but i digress. i will say i wasn’t expecting that dad & Emma to be in on it the way that they were. the was the one surprise i did have.
happy for her & Carson’s happy ending!

This book was honestly terrifying, but so good! My favorite part was seeing Scarlett’s dreams come true in the end! I definitely did not expect the ending, until Scarlett found the money under the floor. I still find it hard to believe that Emma would put Scarlett in that position. Sad…
