The other woman,
And she is monstrous
A total and utter deviant
I have read much on ‘other women’ but trust me Janey is a force, a complete narcissistic force to be reckoned with
Devoid of emotion she will stop at nothing to get what she wants and her soon to be ex hubby and his new partner and kids best watch out
Set in France and Manchester this psychological thriller ( and it does thrill ) has shocks all the way through and they keep coming right to the last one….and then the very last one which completely blindsided me, expect the unexpected with this book
Brilliantly told via a whole cast of characters and dealing with some very real, dark and challenging subjects this is my favourite book by this author ( so far )
I can really only say how good it is and let you find out for yourself

I am a big fan of this author, so when I found out she had a new book coming out I was excited to read it.

Now I'm not going to lie, when I first read the blurb I admit to worrying if it would be my usual kind of thing, but Dixon is such a good writer I thought I would give it a go.

Bloody hell. I am so glad I did. This is easily her best book to date. The writing is beautiful and the characters so well drawn. Rowan is really likeable and Janey is deliciously bad. All too often, villains are painted as over the top pantomime style. Not this lady. While she is rotten to the core, she is also relatable. Full of her own self-importance and only ever thinking about how things affect her. We all know a Janey. She is a brilliant character.

And the twist at the end. Oh my. I did not see that coming, and it made me question everything I had read before.

A brilliant book and one I highly recommend.

Another brilliant book from Patricia Dixon.
I loved Rowan and was really rooting for her relationship with Alex to come out of this unscathed.
The threat to the relationship comes in the form of Alex's soon to be ex wife, Janey, and she really is a nasty piece of work.
Alex met Rowan in France and works here and also in the UK. While in Manchester, he is seriously injured in an accident and ends up in ICU, so Rowan races to his bedside.
Janey is already there and is not welcomed by anyone else there but still sticks around.
We learn what her plans are from chapters from her perspective and these definitely confirmed my thoughts that she's not to be trusted.
This is a real page turner that definitely had me hooked.
If you like a thriller with a sprinkle of romance then this is the book for you.
Thanks to Bloodhound Books for the opportunity to read this book.

The only reason this is not a 1 star review is because of the performance of the audiobook narrators. I awaited twists that never came, a story that never seemed to progress (seriously, there were entire chapters of pure backstory, where nothing actually happened) and quite a lot of characters that didn’t do much for the actual plot. I enjoy my thrillers but this was more of a character and romantic drama. This was simply not for me.

Had high hopes for some light reading but found it abysmal and oh so predictable. I only finished it as I had listed it on goodreads.
I am pleased it's over.

I binged listened to the audiobook. The narrators did a great job. This book had some good twists and turns but it was not very suspenseful. I would not typically side with “the other woman” but in this case Rowan was clearly the better woman. Janey is a narcissist and a horrible woman. I did expect something suspicious with Alex to happen. I would have preferred it to not be so predictable. Favorite characters were Rowan’s mother and Ben.

The year is 2013 when Rowan makes the decision that she wants to be with Alex, no matter what hassle or baggage it involves. The story then moves to the present day and she is happily living in Boulogne-Sur-Mer with him and their 3 year old daughter, Celeste. She is anxiously waiting for him to return from Manchester where he was to drop the bombshell that he is stepping away from the UK side of the business to concentrate on the smaller French concern and is sorting out his divorce. Finally he would be free to spend all his time with his new family in France and things would be perfect. Unfortunately his estranged wife Janey (“manipulative, cruel, vicious, sly”) has other ideas especially when she realizes she will be out of both the business and his will, and Alex suffers a horrific “accident” at the haulage yard. As Rowan rushes to his Manchester hospital bedside to take care of his son Ben from his first marriage who was set to live with them, the reader starts to see just what sort of woman Janey is and what lengths she is prepared to go to.
As with all this author’s books, the characters and scenery are richly painted and easy to picture. I loved all the “good” souls, particularly Persie and Aaden. Ben was such a great and well-balanced kid in spite of his Dad’s horrendous marriage to Janey, and was the real hero and star of this story for me. The desperate situation of asylum seekers and the evil of those who seek to profit from them is also well depicted. And then the ending – it pulled the rug completely from under my feet as the revelations came thick and fast, and sealed my opinion that this is probably the best story so far by this incredibly talented author!! A huge WOW and a massive five stars!!! 5*

This is romantic suspense so not really my normal style however the writing style of Patricia Dixon does seem to work well with the style.

Rowan just drove me nuts from page 1 I felt that she was deluded and just wanted to see the best in people instead of being more realistic.

Janey who seems all innocent with knowing that her marriage is over but still hangs on for dear life to what she thinks she is owed.  I hate the fakeness and how she seems to only care about one thing, herself.

The book is very similar to other books with the jilted lover but in this case the writing did a much better job of differentiating the books.

I was shocked at how much I liked the book not because the writing wasn't good but usually these types of romantic style suspense books don't really catch me and keep me interested.

Ben was an interesting character since you meet him.  A moody teenager who really wanted more from his father and less from the lady he married.  It was hard as you could feel his pain as he tries to reconcile what happened to his father and to himself in a lot of ways.

This book deals with a very touchy subject for me as it deals with spousal abuse but it goes the opposite if normal where the man is the abused person.  Having dealt with that in my own life it was hard and I had to stop the book to start it again a bit later when my mind was not drifting back to that time.

Having an affair you kind of accept that a bit of lying comes with the territory. As Rowan is looking forward to finally having the perfect life with Alex, the man she loves, a series of events has her wondering are there even more lies that she knows nothing about and will they tear everything with Alex apart.

The Other Woman is a highly addictive and gripping read that kept me enthralled and engaged throughout. It was so easy to be caught up in the story and I could not tear myself away until I was done. Best of all was that twist! WOW!! I was not expecting it at all and it took me the better part of an hour when I was done reading it to pick my jaw back up off the ground!

What sets this story apart from others in a similar vein is that It’s not very often that you find yourself rooting for “The Other Woman”, but that is the case with this book. While I loved everything about Rowan, there was nothing at all likeable about Alex’s ex wife Janey, but in saying that, she did bring the story to life and has been perfectly created as the you know what!

Patricia Dixon has set the bar very high with this book and I think it is her best work to date. A fantastic writer and storyteller, she delivers each and every time and it is always such a satisfying experience reading her work. Congratulations on another smashing read Patricia and I look forward to the next one.

This begins as a love story set against the backdrop of rural France, but when the scene changes to gritty Manchester a dark psychological thriller emerges. Tread very carefully because danger can be silent and deadly!

Rowan, our heroine is a beautiful and intelligent woman but when she falls for a man she knows is still married, she is prepared to take a risk, abandon her morals and become “The Other Woman”.

Alex, her lover is kind and gentle and because he really does love Rowan and their daughter Celeste, he has set in motion plans to hand over his haulage business to his employees and run a simpler operation in France.

Ben is Alex’s 16 year old son, he adores his dad and can’t wait to move to France to be part of a family again.

And then there is Janey, a feisty woman who has built up the haulage empire with Alex. Will she let it all go without a fight?

Rowan has waited patiently for years and now her dreams are coming true, until she gets the fateful call that Alex has had an accident at work.

This novel stole my life because I didn’t just read it, I stepped between the the pages and soaked up the tension, the rivalry, the treachery and the heartache.

Patricia, I cried at the end of this book, real tears of joy because I am so proud of what you have achieved. It is not just the story itself, but the intricate detail that has gone into the planning, the timelines, the twists and the far-reaching consequences of every action. AND MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL - THAT ENDING! OMG HONESTLY THIS IS THE BEST ENDING I HAVE EVER READ.

“The Other Woman” - my Number 1 read of 2021.

What an utterly brilliant book! It is full of suspense and drama from start to finish. Set in both Bolougne in France and in Manchester you are spoilt for choice between the romance of the French countryside and the gangsters of Manchester.

Rowan is a teacher who's life is plodding along until she meets and becomes besotted with Alex, a successful businessman. He is concentrating on getting the Calais side of his business up and running when they meet. Only problem is that he is married. Rowan is reluctant to start any relationship due to that until Alex explains that his marriage is over and the France office gives him the chance to get away. His estranged wife, Janey, is left to run the Manchester office in his absence. The more Alex and Rowans relationship grows the more psychotic Janey gets and the more she wants to expand the business using criminal procedures to enhance her own financial gains. Her greed puts the lives of Rowan, Alex and their family at risk. Despite being together for a number of years Alex still had secrets from Rowan.

I had to refrain myself from going to the end of the book when only half way through to see what transpires such was the suspense in the storyline. It is wonderfully written with the author going to great care to set the scene throughout the book. Patricia Dixon has written many excellent books before this one but this one is possibly her best one yet!

Again this Author has not disappointed. Well written brilliant book.
Takes you on a journey with many twists and turns you think
You know where the story is going then it takes you somewhere you don't see coming. The end is amazing and very unexpected and I’m still in shock.

Rowan, expat living in France, meets handsome Alex a married British businessman running his own haulage company from his French office. They fall in love but he has a lot of baggage not least a wife, Janey, who has violent and psychotic tendencies. This follows their relationship and the
Problems that are thrown in their path.
This very briefly outlines the book read it is a wonderful read and you wont be able to put it down.

A romantic story with a twist

I've loved all of Patricia's stories set in France and now she has moved on to a different genre. This one is a very good thriller with several twists at the end. Right at the beginning Rowan has to make a choice and she follows her heart when she falls in love with Alex, a married man. She waits patiently in France for him to disentangle himself from his evil wife and reorganize his business in Manchester. Just as it seems things are going well it all starts to go wrong. Rowan becomes a stronger woman, protecting her family but is Alex the man she thought he was? I sense there could be another follow up book.

This book revolves around Alex, his son - Ben, his second wife - Janey, oh, and his ‘other woman’ - Rowan.

Alex meets Rowan in France whilst looking to expand his haulage business, and when Alex is involved in a horrific accident at work, Rowan travels to be with him in Manchester. As the story goes on facts come to light that cast serious doubt on whether the incident was an accident or not…

Romance is not my genre of choice, and I have to say that I found Rowan and Alex’s flawless relationship a little too much at times - after all, no relationship can be that perfect, so I welcomed Janey and her ruthless attitude and actions. She is indeed a despicable woman full of her own self-importance, and she is involved in serious criminal activity! I really liked the balance Janey brought to the book - in my opinion she is a superb character.

All in all, a very well written book with a remarkable twist at the end.

Well what a bloody brilliant read, yet again the author touches on some delicate subjects but does so with such emotion and feeling. I’m always left reeling after reading Patricia’s books and find difficult to review in the sense of wanting to do the book justice with my mediocre words. A great storyline that covered well a bit of everything but all tied up fantastically and interwoven to tell the story of Alex his son Ben, the second wife Janey and “the other woman” Rowan. It touches on life, love, family and everything in between and just what measures people will go to. I know I’m always in for a treat when ever Patricia has a new book out, she never ceases to deliver a gripping read that has me up late wanting to read “just one more chapter” that turns in to several.

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC copy of this book, which kept me completely engrossed from start to finish.

This book may be her best yet. The ending was probably the most shocking one I’ve read this year. I was almost knocked out of my chair.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ all the way. Great characters, as I’ve come to expect from Patricia Dixon. It’s unusual to feel for the other woman and want the wife to take a short walk off a long pier, but that’s how I felt. Janey, (the wife) is a nasty money-grubbing criminal, who only hangs on to her husband to use his successful haulage company for her criminal enterprises

Rowan just wants a settled family with the man she loves, the stepson she loves like her own, and their young daughter Celeste, whose energy and spirit will win your heart.

Thought provoking!

Poor downtrodden, mistreated Alex, meets the woman of his dreams Rowan, while still married to the bitch from hell. All isn't good when it's revealed the bitch wife, Janey has ulterior motives for getting rid of Alex, and becoming the queen of his business. Her attempt at killing him misfires, and she turns to an unscrupulous associate for help. Will they succeed, or will Janey be discovered?

not what you expect - a brilliant psychological thriller

This book starts out as a love story but soon becomes much, much more. Patricia Dixon weaves a brilliant psychological thriller, including adultery, abuse, all linked into the criminal underworld where nothing is quite as it seems. To thought I had it all worked out but how wrong I was! A marvellous read as ever from a brilliant author, an easy 5 stars.

Chose this based all the 5 star reviews and now I can never believe ya’ll again. The trust has been broken because this was so bad. It’s labeled a “psychological suspense” and I’m so confused about where my psyche was supposed to feel suspended. I listened to the audio book and felt like I was listening to a lifetime movie play in the background while I worked. With all due respect to the author, this was so corny.

I’ll be honest - I spent most of this book frustrated. The villain felt daft to the point of being unbelievable, and it really grated on me. But then came the resolution… And wow. It completely knocked my socks off - and my rating up. I realised just how many signs I’d missed, and the way it all came together was brilliant. What I thought was weak and irritating suddenly made perfect sense in hindsight.

OMG, wow and every exclamation in the dictionary! Alex runs Everest haulage, a family firm started by his grandfather. He has a son Ben from his wife who died when Ben was very young. He is in the process of divorce from Janey- a ruthless, self centred woman who hates Ben and only sees Alex for what he can give her in the materialistic/financial gains area. A while ago Alex began a relationship with Rowan whom he met whilst in France looking after the European arm of the business. They now have a young daughter Celeste and sees them along with Ben as his future. Minutes before he is due to leave the Manchester office for the last time to head to France permanently there is an incident which drastically changes things and threatens all future plans. Can he and Rown sort things out to secure their future without the interference of Janey?
I very quickly loved this- there is something about Rowan despite her being “ the other woman”. She comes across as having a heart of gold and unselfish intentions- the antithesis of her nemesis Janey. This is fast paced and briefly takes us back to when Rowan and Alex met and became a couple. Clever, brilliantly written ( as ever) and you just know that there's something you can't quite put your finger on…. and then BOOM!! (quote Benoir Blin!) One stunning read and certainly one to remember.

Such a great read and while I’m not the biggest fan of romantic stories, it fits in perfectly with the story line because as the book progresses, it’s full of twists so while I had an idea of what the ending for one character might be, the actual ending surprised me as I definitely didn’t see that one. It’s cleverly written and deserves five stars.

Janie is crazy in the worst kind of way. She wants everything and she will kill to get what she wants. Her husband meets and falls in live with another woman and Janie really doesn’t care. Unless it affects her financial stability, her home and her business. But when her husband is hurt, his new woman proves to be much stronger than Janie expected.

Fast moving thriller and a fun read!

I have read most of this author’s books and enjoyed them immensely but this one was a bit slow and lame in parts.
However I read it all without skipping pages but it definitely wasn’t a page turner.

A bit far fetched

It was quite far fetched, but good in parts.
Rowan seemed to manage her little girl very well, whilst running around. Not the best book and at one point I raced through it to get to the end. The end yes, was a surprise

Excellent read

From picking this book up to read to putting it down, finished, I didn’t know where this story was taking me, so much happening, and I just had to read on to the end, and even then there was the twist, unpredictable to the very end, brilliant.
