Josie was not one to pray, but lately she had begun having whispered, fevered conversations with God.
With her legs up in the air and her husband’s baby paste inside her.
Please let me get pregnant. Please let me get pregnant. Please let me get pregnant.
* * *
Laura turned her head away from the bathroom mirror, her eyes lasered on her smartphone, counting down the timer until she could look at the little plastic stick.
Please don’t let me be pregnant. Please don’t let me be pregnant. Please don’t let me be pregnant.
The timer dinged.
Laura looked.
Closed her eyes.
And had a whispered, fevered conversation with God, too.

Eternally Complicated is the final (yes, for sure, really, no more books ever, I really mean it...) book in the long-running New York Times bestselling Her Billionaires saga. What started in 2012 as a short novella called Her First Billionaire has turned into an eight-year journey through the lives of Laura, Mike, Dylan, Laura's best friend Josie and her love, Alex, and so many other characters (including Darla from the New York Times bestselling Random series).
As best friends Josie and Laura wrestle with very different reactions to their pregnancies, they find that one bond endures: friendship.
And with plenty of peppermint sundaes at Jeddy's Diner, of course!
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Julia Kent writes romantic comedy with an edge. Since 2013, she has sold more than 2 million books, with 5 New York Times bestsellers and more than 21 appearances on the USA Today bestseller list. Her books have been translated into French, German, and Italian, with more titles releasing in the future.
From billionaires to BBWs to new adult rock stars, Julia finds a sensual, goofy joy in every contemporary romance she writes. Unlike Shannon from Shopping for a Billionaire, she did not meet her husband after dropping her phone in a men's room toilet (and he isn't a billionaire in a rom com).
She also writes romantic suspense as Meli Raine, sexy shifter romances as DJ Jennings, billionaire shifters as half of the author team Diana Seere, and co-authors with Elisa Reed.
She lives in New England with her husband and three children in a household where she is the only person with the gene required to change empty toilet paper rolls.
I have read every book in this series by Julia Kent, as a matter of fact I have read every book she has written. This series fast became one of my favorites. You can not help but fall in love with Laura, Dylan and Mike. This series pulls you in and hooks you from the beginning. You will love this group and their extended family! This particular book touches on a very sensitive subject which Julia Kent handled with grace, poise and touching on all of the emotions felt by those who have had it happen to them. I found myself praying, crying and cheering right along with Laura and Josie. This book touched on so many emotions, some happy some sad. As I continued to read I felt like I was right there along with all of the characters in this book. It was great to see some of the other characters from her other series show up. I must warn you, you will be happy, sad, angry and excited while reading but do have some tissues handy you very well may need them! This book was everything I expected and more. I loved the double epilogues! I want to thank Julia Kent for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of this book.
Holy crap what a book! This was an amazing conclusion to the Her Billionaires series. I absolutely loved it and it is a must read. Julia killed it with this one. Go read it. You will laugh and cry but be so happy in the end!
It was so great returning to read how life for Laura, Mike, Dylan, Alex, and Josie has moved on. I’ve read the whole series, and this book closed the series in a beautiful, emotional form. It was like returning home to visit your family, and reuniting with some of my favorite characters. Laura has an accidental pregnancy, but realizes that she really is not ready for more children. The loss of this pregnancy is unexpected, but it resolved the unwanted issue. In the meantime, after several lost pregnancies, Josie finds herself pregnant, and the stress to hold onto this baby is hard on Josie and Alex. The book covers Josie’s stages of her pregnancy, while her friendship with Laura continues. Darla, Trevor, and Joe, are also included in the story. The emotions that Alex and Josie go through, while waiting to see if the baby will survive to full term, are so well described, along with all of the emotional support that their friends give them. This book had me riding an emotional roller coaster, with tears, laughter, and joy. The book ends in a heartfelt HEA, with some important side characters now gone. Julia Kent handled the ending of this story in a beautiful, loving way, and I appreciate that. I will always recommend any of her books.
It's time to check in one last time with our favorite characters from the long-running Her Billionaires series. This talented storyteller once again crafts a witty, emotionally charged story about five characters who comprise a found family, and this conclusion is perfect cherry on top of this terrific series. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll blush and you'll swoon. You'll love every minute you spend with these perfectly flawed and eternally endearing characters, so make sure you don’t miss it!
I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.
Well the gang is back in this one, Laura, with her two husbands Mike, & Dylan and their 3 children, Josie & her husband Alex, and of course you must have some scenes with Darla. When this book opens we find that though they have 3 children and aren't looking to have any more it looks like Laura is pregnant. She has no clue how to tell her best friend Josie who has had gone through multiple miscarriage's. All Josie & Alex want is a child of their own but it seems no matter how hard they try it just doesn't seem to be happening for them. Laura finally builds up the courage to tell her husbands that they are in fact pregnant with another child. when they lose that child though none of the are sure they know how to feel. Go through the journey with these two families and see if the end is a HEA or more heartbreak to come?
Amazing story by this author. The emotional journey you will go through with all these characters will have you never wanting them to go away. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.
A fun, sexy read about friends and good times with bad times. Two friends dealing with pregnancy in different situations. Josie desperately wants to be pregnant after trying for so long. Laura is not wanting to be pregnant at this point in her life. A good read.
Oh, my. I have such bittersweet feelings about this book. I’m so sad to say goodbye to these characters. But at the same time, I couldn’t have asked for a better ending to this series. I feel as if I’ve grown along with these characters over the years. Not exactly the same life experiences, but enough to be relatable, anyway. That’s the thing about these characters. They are all so very relatable. It doesn’t matter if you’re not a doctor or a billionaire or part of a throuple. The issues we all face in life are universal, and Julia Kent does such a wonderful job of highlighting these universal similarities in her characters and her stories, while throwing in just enough ridiculousness to keep us on our toes. And my gosh… all the feels. Like every damn feel there is, she’s making you feel it. It’s not unusual at all while reading her books to find yourself smiling, then crying, then laughing out loud the next minute. I think Julia Kent must have attended the Steel Magnolias school of writing because she’s definitely made laughter through tears my favorite emotion. This book was like coming home, like a family reunion where I actually like all the family members. I hadn’t realized how much I’d missed these characters. These characters and these stories, they make you feel connected. They make you feel, period. And what more can you really ask for in a book? This book makes me want to go back and reread all the books in the series. I truly cannot recommend this book or this series highly enough. Just absolutely phenomenal.
* I was given an ARC of this book and voluntarily chose to review. All of my opinions are honest and entirely my own.
Eternally Complicated, the last book in Her Billionaires Series and it wraps it all up!
I've read every book in this series, more than once! As well as The Random Series and Shopping for a Billionaire Series, again, more than once! If you haven't, you most definitely should!!!
But anyway... Eternally Complicated - loved it! Before you start, be sure to know that this deals with miscarriage, Josie has had 8 sleeping babies and this is her last hope, even typing those words gives me goosebumps because it is heartbreaking, there's no denying or two ways about it - it's heartbreaking! BUT Julia Kent has written this book with such finesse, such understanding and so beautifully and real that although it's heartbreaking, you still want to read it! (If you're on the fence - Josie does get her hae so it's worth it!)
It's not all sad, heck no - the humour is still there! Josie and Darla take me to the fair, just so nuts! Every single character made me smile (bar Marlene, but we don't like Marlene so she doesn't count!) but yeah, you get the reminder of these people, the loud-mouthed Madge, forgetful Ed. Darla, Trevor & Joe's unconventional yet exciting and crazy life, Laura, Dylan & Mike with their unconventional 3way marriage plus 3kids! And Josie & Alex's opposites attract marriage, he's so level headed and calm, whereas Josie is shorts**sed tornado 🤭
They are all such loveable people with such interesting lives that I'll never grow tired off.
An excellent finale ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
*I voluntarily received an arc and this is my honest review.
Eternally Complicated ~ Her Billionaires#6 by Julia Kent.
Eternally Complicated is a truly remarkable story, that has a very sensitive storyline, that belongs to Laura and Josie. Julia has captured this so well, with both characters and plot. It is filled with emotions on all fronts that draw the reader into the story, from start to finish.
Julia is one of my favorite authors, and I know that each book she delivers will be fantastic. Eternally Complicated is extremely very well written full of laughter and sadness put together, you have one phenomenal read. I enjoyed the extra epilogues that take you into the future with updates from both families. Those poor men with their teenagers, especially Jillian, oh the poor young man who becomes her boyfriend.LOL:)
I believe this is such a strong story that needs to be purchased, and not have any spoilers, I don't want to spoil for others.
I have truly enjoyed this series and am sad that it is ending. You never know these characters may pop in at another time, another place.YOu never know:)
I truly admire Julia, with all those characters in her head, writing more than one book at a time, hats off to Julia, they always turn out so well.
Thank you, Julia, for this advance copy, this is my honest review.
What an end to this series! As Laura and Josie come to a pivotal moment in their lives, it’s good to see how far they’ve come and which path their futures take. For Laura, Dylan, and Mike, life is just coming back to being able to have more thrupple time as their youngest ones start school when a totally unforeseen event occurs that could totally derail everything. For Josie and Alex, it’s the possibility of fruition after eight dreams have shattered, leaving them fearful to trust that this time will be different. How these families, and friends, handle these challenges is filled with angst, humor and, above all, love. This ARC was given in exchange for an honest review.
Honestly, I expected MORE, I wanted MORE. Don't get me wrong, the story was good, but I really wanted some hot scenes with Laura, Dylan, and Mike.
Josie and Alex have had a hard time conceiving a child. She's had 8 miscarriages so far. The farthest her body has let her carry a fetus is 5 months. It's really getting to the couple. When she gets pregnant for the 9th time, she does everything possible to make it to the 26th week, at that point the fetus will be safe to carry to term.
Meanwhile, Laura's period is late. She goes out and buys several pregnancy tests at the pharmacy and locks herself in the bathroom, and takes one a day until four test all confirm the sane results: she's pregnant. It's just not fair, she's pregnant for the 3rd time without even trying, and Josie can't catch a break. The trio never planned on 4 kids, they are perfectly happy with the 3 they have. Jillian is 8 and the twins, Aaron and Adam, are 5 years old. What they have now is enough. Laura thinks no one knows what she's up to, but her CVS bag was too transparent, and Dylan saw the tests in there.
When a few days go by, she doesn't say a word and Dylan begins to panic. That's when Mike realizes something is up with both Laura and Dylan. When Laura sits them down to tell them around Christmas that's she's pregnant and she's so sorry. They don't blame her, they comfort her instead.
Feeling bad about getting pregnant so easily and by accident, she avoids Josie's calls for a few weeks. She didn't want to tell her and have her upset because she got pregnant by accident when Josie is having such a hard time conceiving herself. Josie isn't happy with her Laura because she needs her for moral support.
Laura, the guys, and their 3 kids have a trip planned to go to Disney World right after Christmas. The morning they're supposed to leave, she wakes up bleeding. When she goes to the bathroom, she realizes she's having a miscarriage. Dylan is by her side immediately. Both Mike and Dylan wants her to stay home for a few days and fly out later in the week after she sees her doctor. That's when Laura finally calls Josie for support, Josie's been through this so many times, she'll know what to do. They all feel a little guilty because there's some relief now that she's no longer pregnant, and that makes Laura feel even worse.
The old gang is back: Madge, Grandpa Ed, Darla, Trevor, Joe, Meribeth, John, Marlene
Julia Kent's books are always great, and this one was no exception -- but it did seem a bit different from her usual style.
Her books are usually hilarious, with quite a bit of romance and lots of steam. This one did have both funny and steamy scenes, but it seemed much more serious than most of her other books. There was a lot going on in the minds of all the characters -- some of it was funny, some of it was sad, and some of it was emotional and painful.
Just a warning: Because this book deals with miscarriage, it was difficult to read at times. The subject is handled with sensitivity and care, but still might be a trigger for some readers.
I absolutely do recommend the book, but just want other readers to know that it is not as hilarious as many of Julia's books are -- it is much more serious.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
Another masterpiece from Julia Kent. I am sitting here having just finished this book with tears streaming down my face. This is an improvement, five minutes ago I was ugly crying, big heaving sobs. My dog wondering what the hell was going on with me. What was happening was I was reading the last epilogue. In one chapter I was broken apart and then made whole. Julia how do you do it. I'm in awe. This book is an epic end to Laura and Josie's story. Laura, Mike and Dylan have to manage an accident. Josie and Alex a tense and longed for miracle. The same story, two perspectives. Throw in Darla, Trevor and Joe to get an even wider view. The storytelling is beautiful, the characters lovingly written, the plot had me entranced. You only get to read a book for the first time once, but I know next time I read this story I will be moved just as much, if not more. I love these characters and I will definitely be reading the whole series again. I highly recommend this book, series and anything Julia Kent writes. You won't regret it. Thank you Julia for an emotional and beautiful send-off ❤
Eternally Complicated is the sixth, and final, book in the Her Billionaire's series. While it could be read as a standalone, it jumps into the deep end with a couple and a triad in established relationships from the first five books in the series. I do recommend starting at the beginning.
Josie and Alex keep trying for a baby with no lasting pregnancies. Laura, Mike and Dylan have three active kids keeping their life very busy, sometimes too busy. The twins just started school so their personal time is resuming. This book is a sometimes hilarious and sometimes somber look at the reality of life and how it, often, does not go as we've planned.
One more look at all the characters we've loved so long and a couple trips to Jeddy's diner. This pulls in characters from across many of the series and gives us some glimpses into their lives years in the future. If it has to end, this is the best possible way to wrap up this series.
This is the conclusion of this amazing series or is it really? This epic finale will make live a gamut of emotions, from laughing out loud about Darla's shenanigan's, to crying along with Laura and rejoicing with Josie and Alex. This story will bring a depth of emotions while you get a glimpse of what Josie and Alex have been going through with their miscarriages. Their guilt and longing for a child so deep that it will push Laura not to talk about her own pregnancy and yet, Josie is the one she will turn to in time of needs. All that was left unsaid is now coming to light and all the couples are being put to the test in this story and together they will heal and become stronger in the long run. The funny craziness balances all the serious issues these people all have to face. An amazing finale to a great series! I volunteered to review this story.
It’s the end of an era, and reaching that end is bittersweet. If you hadn’t already guessed, that was a hint to keep the tissues handy, because it’s highly likely you’re going to need them too. There’s lots of the snark and silliness we’ve come to expect from this series, but as the characters have matured, so have their storylines. There is a depth of emotion to this book that is at times a bit daunting, yet it also carries so much hope for all their futures. The extended epilogues are absolutely beautiful, even if they did leave me bawling my eyes out. I hate that we’re saying “goodbye” to these characters, however it’s been one heck of a ride while it lasted. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
I have followed Ms. Kent's books with this series from the beginning with the waiting anticipation of the next book released. I have been in hysterics of laughter and emotions of the characters watching as their families have grown. This final book brought all the characters together as they anticipated the long over due completion of each family dynamics. Laura, Dylan and Mike have three kids for now. Alex and Josie are struggling to complete their family. Fingers crossed for them. Darla, Joe and Trevor visit. I will miss these characters. Thank you Ms. Kent for making me laugh.
This book is so much fun. You get tears of sadness, tears of joy and tears from laughing too hard. Julia brought the gang full circle and gave us a perfect wrap up for some of our favorite characters.
Josie and Alex will have you sobbing, smiling, laughing and cheering.
Laura, Dylan and Mike will have you biting your nails, teary-eyed and rolling on the floor laughing.
The kids are so much fun and too smart for their own good. lol
I have loved their stories and this is a fabulous send off for them all. (Or is it Julia? )
If you like a lot of spice and some heartwarming angst with your romance and comedy, then you will love this book.
As Her Billionaire's series comes to an end, Julia Kent Has given us the perfect conclusion. It will make you laugh out loud, cry, and fill you with hope. After eight miscarriages, Josie and Alex are pregnant again and taking one day at a time. With every passing day hope starts to bloom in their hearts. With all your favorites, Laura, Mike, Dylan, Darla, Joe, Trevor, and of course fan favorites Madge and Ed, this final installment brings together these wonderful people who feel like family. A must read.
Julia Kent has once again brought humor and drama together skillfully woven to bring these characters to life and making them feel like they could be your friends and family... whacky ones, but yours nonetheless. She handled this difficult subject with care and realism, pulling on the heartstrings for sure. This makes me want to go back and read all the books again with these characters I’ve grown to love. While this may be the end to this series, I have no doubt Julia Kent will dazzle us again... I can hardly wait!!
I have never cried reading an authors note at the end of a book before but this one made me ball like a baby! I have read everything by Julia Kent and laughed out loud so many times my husband thinks I'm crazy! ( It might not have anything to do with the books!) Reading her farewell to these characters pierced my heart and warned my soul. So Thank you Julia Kent for sharing with us your amazing fantasies and oh so lovable characters. It has been our pleasure! Nonie
A great final look at the Her Billionaires characters
This was a little different. A few less laughs although there were still plenty and a few more pulled heartstrings.
Julia Kent touched on a tough topic with empathy and love and yes a few laughs.
I will miss Laura, Josie, Mike, Dylan, and Alex... But glad to see that Darla and the random acts crew who made appearances didn't have a final fair well in this book.
Please read the other books in the series first you will enjoy it more and understand all the craziness that pops up.
I have loved this series from the beginning and this one has brought it full circle. Josie's journey hit me on a personal level and was handled with so much love and grace. We should all be blessed with a circle of family, blood and chosen, to walk us through our lives. These characters are that. In typical Julia Kent style, we feel the hard stuff, but we still just have to laugh at the other stuff. May we all have a Darla and a Laura on our side.
The best book I've read for quite a while. Julia Kent brings back favorite characters from the Her Billionaires and Random Acts of Crazy series to create this finale. Laura, Josie and of course Darla add to the humor, tears and overall wonderful feel of this book. I laughed my husband awake and he asked why I was crying. The trials of couples Josie and Alex and Laura, Mike and Dylan are put to the test. Julia handles these difficulties with loving compassion. 5 stars all the way.
This is Eternally Complicated, book 6 of Julia Kent’s Her Billionaires series. This is an amazing end to this series! Josie and Alex are still trying to have a baby. Laura, Mike and Dylan are enjoying life with their 3 kids UNTIL the pregnancy tests say PREGNANT! Things change for both couples, and not always in a good way. Secrets are kept while things progress. I have to say that the ending and the epilogues gutted me. These people brought me joy and laughter just as they brought me sadness. I will always remember them fondly. Thank you Julia Kent for introducing them to us! It has been a pleasure!
Two best friends. One would do anything to be pregnant - after many miscarriages. One already has three children, the youngest (twins) just entering Kindergarten, so a “life” looks possible again.
A similar journey traveled from completely different opposite viewpoints.
Fabulous in-depth emotions from the entire family perspective.
*** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book ***
I have read this series more than once and have loved it so much. This book had me laughing, crying and feeling complete joy. There are so many wonderful people in this story. I have loved Laura, Mike and Dylan from the start. But Alex and Josie have always been my favorite. Feeling their heartaches, fear and joy made my heart feel all of the feels. I can't think of a better ending to this wonderful series, the epilogues were perfect. Thank you Julia for sharing your wonderful words with us!
These people have been so beautiful and amazing to follow their story over the years. This final book was funny, emotional and gripping from start to finish, as always from Julia Kent. Most books make you cry because they make you feel sad, not this one! I'm so so sad that there will be no more. If you discover this and haven't read the rest, please, please go and start at the beginning. You won't regret it.
I've read every single book in this series and I have to say it's a bit bittersweet to see this series come to an end (sorta speak) I love all of these characters and I felt all of their pain and joys throughout the entire series. I laughed and cried along with every one of these characters and I love that Julia Kent's series crossover one another and you get a glimpse into other series and characters. Phenomenal story to wrap this great series up.
